Ultra G - 2023

ultra g yacht owner

A thundering full custom motor yacht

Ultra G is a full custom 60-metre motor yacht with impressive power: 22,000hp for a top speed of 37 knots. Heesen is renowned for its expertise in designing, engineering, and building lightweight, ultra-fast yachts with unparalleled precision. Drawing inspiration from two iconic Heesen sportfishing yachts from the 90s, Obsession and Red Sapphire, Ultra G is the culmination of over 40 years of shipbuilding experience, crafted to the highest standards of Dutch quality.

First Impressions

Frank Laupman of Omega Architects created a bold profile for our most powerful yacht to date. The yacht’s muscular shapes are crafted to produce strong architectural shadows, while Laupman has underscored the sport fishing image with an aggressive, high-contrast paint scheme. Deeply tinted windows, a black superstructure band and hardtop, and red-orange accent stripes are all expressing Ultra G's immense power and speed. When it came to selecting the hull colour, Ultra G's owner wanted something out of the ordinary, but not too drastic. He chose ‘Desert Tan’, described by Awlgrip as “calming and low key, this is a subtle and luxurious shade. Yellowy in its base tone, it suggests a vast desert landscape where adventure beckons.” Ultra G will look stunning out in the deep blue ocean, where the giants roam!

Step aboard

The layout of Ultra G is highly customized to match the lifestyle of her discerning owner. The lower deck is home to four suites, while the Owner has reserved the bridge deck aft as Owner's deck. A spacious suite that faces aft opens onto a private terrace with a whirlpool and seating area, perfect for relaxing. On the main deck aft terrace, there is a conversation area and alfresco dining. Large sliding doors connect the indoor seating area and the large bar amidships with the outdoors. Forward, there is a formal dining setup with an elegant oval table that can seat up to twelve guests. The media room is located forward, featuring a cinema and a games table. The wellness area, with sauna, steam room and snow room, is adjacent to the fisherman lounge.

New superyacht Ultra G is speedy, powerful – and dog-friendly

By Robert Jackman

Heesen ultra g superyacht

Superyacht maker Heesen has unveiled the Ultra G – the shipbuilder’s most powerful creation yet

An otherwise unremarkable city one hour’s drive from Amsterdam , Oss isn’t typically spoken about in the same breath as Monaco or Cannes .

Yet for much of the past 40 years, this Dutch city has developed a strong connection to the luxury destinations of the French riviera and beyond.

Since 1978, it has been the home of Heesen Yachts: a shipbuilding company that has produced many of the world’s most extravagant – and fastest – superyachts .

Heesen has now unveiled its latest creation, billed at its most powerful yet – and christened, as of last month, Ultra G.

‘Ultra G’s thunder will come from 22,000 horsepower generated by four MTU 20V 4000 engines,’ says Heesen engineer Ronald van Rossum.

‘Thanks to her lightweight aluminium Fast Displacement Hull Form, complete with course fins and interceptor trim plates, Ultra G will reach an extraordinary top speed of 37 knots in light load conditions.’

For all its fearsome power, though, the 67-metre yacht takes the environment seriously – having been built in line with the IMO’s new Tier III standards.

Ultra g: wine, dogs and walk-in wardrobes.

Outside of the engine room, the focus is on delivering the ultimate luxury experience in line with the tastes of Ultra G’s UHNW buyer.

‘We cater to clients who want to save time without compromising on quality,’ says Heesen’s chief executive, Arthur Brouwer.

‘Our buyers are typically UHNWs who desire a unique yacht that is the true expression of their personality and lifestyle.’

Heseen ultra g superyacht

While Heesen maintains tight-lipped about its clients, Brouwer points out one unique feature that may provide a clue (or at least rule out some names).

The interior layout of the superyacht has been designed to be as dog-friendly as possible, with hi-tech features intended to ensure maximum comfort for canine passengers.

Perhaps the most novel is the custom-built ‘relief area’: a self-flushing area of the side deck finished with synthetic grass, and complete with sensors, cameras and sprinklers .

Elsewhere, the yacht boasts all the perks that have become synonymous with this most exclusive of luxury assets.

Features include a jacuzzi, a spacious walk-in wardrobe, and a large bathroom with a central oval bath and separate shower stall.

Meanwhile a custom wine fridge, with discrete sections at different temperatures, sits pride of place in the main saloon.

Heesen ultra g superyacht's Skyfall Lounge

Ultra G isn’t the Heesen first superyacht to push the boundaries of what’s possible at sea.

At the 2017 Monaco YachtShow, the company unveiled Home: the world’s first superyacht equipped for silent cruising.

The 49.8 metre vessel uses a hybrid diesel and electrical engine capable of cruising at just 50 decibels (about as loud as a domestic refrigerator).

Last year’s Monaco Yacht Show saw the launch of Lusine, a 60-metre vessel featuring exterior lines by Omega Architects (who also partnered on Ultra G).

The ultra-prime vessel – which features a helipad – is estimated to be in the top 5 per cent of yachts in the world by overall length.

She boasts some eight bedrooms, capable of accommodating 16 guests, as well as living quarters for 14 crew members.

The superyacht is reportedly owned by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum – a senior member of Dubai ’s royal family and the chief executive of Emirates Group .

Are superyachts on course for 2023?

Heesen’s chief executive, Arthur Brower, tells Spear’s that the company currently has 15 yachts under construction – four of which will be launched in 2023.

Like other shipbuilders, the company will have been encouraged by recent signs that the superyacht industry has exited the pandemic era in rude health.

According to industry specialists Superyacht Times , more vessels were purchased in 2021 than any other year since the financial crash of 2008.

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Heesen Yachts (@heesenyachts)

The latest data shows that 226 yachts over 30 metres were sold last year – a 27 per cent drop on the record breaking year of 2021.

‘The results for 2022 still make it into the top five of sales years,’ says Ralph Dazert, head of intelligence for Superyacht Times .

Market-watchers say the industry has been a beneficiary of the pandemic wealth boom – as surging asset prices have boosted the net worth of UHNWs and HNWs.

Do Russian buyers still dominate superyachts?

In early 2022, however, the superyacht industry was unwittingly thrust into the spotlight – with the seizure of some vessels following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine .

It isn’t the industry’s only link to Russia. Until spring 2022, Heesen itself was owned by Vagit Alekperov – the Russian oil magnate currently subject to EU sanctions .

Alekperov has since transferred his ownership to an independent Dutch foundation.

But while the image of the superyacht-dwelling oligarch may have cemented itself in the public information, data from the specialist trade publication suggests a more nuanced picture.

Vagit Alekpero

As of the end of December 2021, Russian nationals owned 9 per cent of all superyachts.

US and Canadian nationals make up the single largest group of owners, with around one quarter of all superyachts.

The picture changes, though, when ownership is restricted to the very largest yachts – i.e. those more than 80 metres long.

For those ultra-prime yachts, Russian owners are the second largest nationality (after Gulf nationals) – owning around one in five vessels.

So what might the future hold for superyacht sales?

‘For 2023, we see a number of factors which could dampen sales,’ says Ralph Dazert.

‘As well as the tougher economic outlook, you have an absence of Russian buyers and long delays at shipyards.’

‘Despite that, we are still counting on some 150 new yacht sales for 2023, despite the aforementioned challenges.’

In the Heesen shipyard, the intricate and heavy work will continue. Expect to see the results at a yacht show before long.

Heesen Yachts’ Project SkyFall Superyacht Named MY Ultra G

Luxurious Magazine

Simon Wittenberg takes a closer look at the 60-metre Project SkyFall Superyacht, MY Ultra G, the Dutch shipyard’s first launch of 2023.

The new year has started at full throttle for Heesen Yachts in Oss, with the opening weeks of 2023 seeing the launch of Project SkyFall, an all-aluminium, 60-metre superyacht – just 10 metres shorter than Heesen’s Galactica Super Nova .

In build since October 2020, the vessel has been christened MY Ultra G by its new owner, and will be followed by other unveilings by The Netherlands-based shipyard throughout the coming months.

Two images, one showing the innovative hull design and the other a man working on the ships detailing

The black and red exterior of the 918 gross-tonne (GT) superyacht has been styled by Frank Laupman at the UK-based Omega Architects, and draws inspiration from two luxury Heesen sportfishing yachts in the 1990s, namely the 38-metre MY Obsessions (from 1996), which was the largest sportfishing yacht of its time, until the baton was passed to the 39-metre MY Red Sapphire a year later.

An artist's rendering of the ship's lounge area

MY Ultra G is capable of accommodating ten guests and 13 crew, and its luxurious interior, designed by the London-based studio Harrison Eidsgaard, features a master apartment complete with a jacuzzi, a large walk-in wardrobe, plus a large bathroom housing a central oval bath and separate shower.

An artist's rendering of the dining room showing the custom made wine cooler

The art of entertaining guests lies at the heart of the functionality of all social areas, both inside and out. For example, a custom-made wine cooler, with discrete sections at different temperatures takes pride of place in the main saloon.

The high-tech media room is home to Samsung’s new Wall TV, measuring nearly two metres by eight metres, and the elegant games table on the main deck forward, is undoubtedly the pièce de résistance. The sundeck, with its infinity pool facing aft, is the perfect setting for hosting receptions and musical entertainment.

An artist's rendering of the yacht's atrium

For those who like to travel with their pets, four-legged friends are also treated to a luxurious experience, thanks to a series of carefully thought-out details to make their life at sea as safe and as stress-free as possible. These include the ‘relief area’, a self-flushing area of the side deck finished in synthetic grass, complete with sensors, cameras and sprinklers.

MY Ultra G is powered by four MTU 20V 4000 engines, driving four Kongsberg S90 waterjets, and delivering a staggering 22,000 horsepower. The outer powerplants, compliant with the latest Tier III environmental regulations, drive steerable jets, whilst the centre engines operate fixed booster units. With less back-pressure and a slightly higher power output, the centre engines are activated solely for the highest speeds.

A closeup view of the hull design

Thanks to its lightweight aluminium Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), complete with course fins, gyro stabilisers and interceptor trim plates, MY Ultra G is able to reach an extraordinary top speed of 37 knots (42 mph) in light load conditions.

The hull has also been shaped to provide a much smoother and flatter ride, when compared to a conventional semi-displacement profile. In addition, three gyro-stabilisers will keep the yacht stable at low speeds.

Before MY Ultra G is handed over to its new owner, Heesen Yachts is now undertaking system commissioning testing prior to the superyacht departing the shipyard in Oss for intensive trials in the North Sea.

Heesen Launches Ultra G Superyacht

The 196.8-ft yacht is the Dutch shipbuilder's most powerful yet.

By Kim Ayling

Heesen ultra g yacht

Heesen has set the tone for another impressive year with the launch of its first yacht of 2023:  Ultra G.

Previously known under her build name of Project Skyfall,  Ultra G  takes the title of the Dutch shipbuilder ’s most powerful yacht yet, boasting 22,000 horsepower and a top speed of 37 knots.

The 196.8-ft yacht was a full-custom build, with the Heesen design team working closely to owner’s unique requirements. Among these was a desire to retain a sense of privacy onboard. As such, although the interiors have been designed for socializing, the bridge deck’s aft is reserved solely for private use.

Here, the owner can enjoy all the comforts of the master apartment, which includes a private terrace with a jacuzzi, a walk-in wardrobe and a spacious bathroom complete with a bath and separate shower.

In the main saloon, a custom wine fridge with discrete separate compartments for different temperatures acts as a centerpiece. The sleek space opens directly out onto a stylish sundeck with an infinity pool, creating ample opportunity for indoor-outdoor living.

Other owner requirements included needing extra details to ensure their pet dogs were as safe and stress-free as possible at sea. Among these extra pet-friendly features is the unique ‘relief area’, a self-flushing area of the side deck complete with synthetic grass, sensors, cameras and sprinklers.

Ultra G  will offer space for up to ten overnight guests throughout her cabins, with room for a total of thirteen crew. Smart separate stairwells not only maintain guest privacy but also allow for seamless service across the yacht.

Dutch yacht builder Heesen announced that the Ultra G superyacht hit the water. The vessel, which was previously known as Project SkyFall, emerged from its shed at the builder’s facility in Oss on January 27th. Soon, the yacht will depart Oss, and it will begin intensive sea trials in the North Sea.

ultra g yacht owner

The design of this 60-meter (197-foot) superyacht takes inspiration from two luxury sportfishing yachts built by Heesen back in the ’90s: Obsessions and Red Sapphire. It’s an all-aluminum vessel that balances comfort and elegance with impressive performance.

Described as a “ sport fisherman in yacht disguise, ” the new Ultra G features a Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) that maximizes efficiency. The dynamic character is also highlighted by the striking profile with aggressive lines designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects. The yacht features a suggestive paint scheme with a black superstructure band and hardtop, and red accent stripes.

ultra g yacht owner

It has expansive social areas created to fit the needs and the lifestyle of the owner, who is a fishing enthusiast. The yacht comes with a fish cockpit on the aft deck, and it offers storage for 40 rods. And since it’s a luxurious vessel, Ultra G is also brimming with luxe amenities. The sundeck, for example, features an infinity pool positioned aft that allows guests to relax and admire the beautiful turquoise waters. There is also room next to the pool for receptions and musical entertainment.

ultra g yacht owner

Passengers will find a generous area for fresco dining on the aft terrace, as well as a large bar amidship where they sip delicious cocktails. Of course, the interiors are just as impressive. The main salon has an elegant oval table that can seat 12 and a custom wine fridge. The superyacht includes some entertainment spaces, too, such as a media room that comes complete with a cinema and a games table on the main deck forward.

Heesen even incorporated some dog-friendly features. People will find a “relief area,” which is actually a self-flushing zone on the side deck with synthetic grass, sprinklers, sensors, and cameras. Although the 197-footer has numerous spots that allow people to relax and socialize, the owner has its private master apartment on the bridge deck that includes a big walk-in closet, a jacuzzi, and a bathroom with an oval bath and a separate shower. This area comes with a private terrace as well.

ultra g yacht owner

In terms of performance, Ultra G does not disappoint. The luxury superyacht packs 22,000 hp produced by four MTU 20V4000 engines that feed four Kongsberg S90 water jets. That’s enough to take the vessel to an impressive top speed of 37 knots (43 mph/ 69 kph).

When compared to conventional shafts and propellers, the waterjet propulsion package reduces vibration by 40 percent. The FDHF hull, which has three gyro stabilizers, also ensures a smooth journey at sea. Currently, Ultra G is undergoing system commissioning testing. The all-aluminum superyacht will soon leave the shed in Oss to begin trials in the North Sea.

Taking a Bow: How Yacht Makers Are Rethinking the Rear End

Superyacht Heesen Ultra G sportfishing yacht

Ultra G went into construction several years ago as Project Skyfall. The yacht is recognizable on the water with its bold, Omega Architects–designed exterior, accentuated with black and red lines. And while it’s suitably sporty, don’t call it a sports yacht. And though it’s packed full of fishing technology—a rare trait for a superyacht—it’s not a sportfishing vessel. Heesen calls it a “sportsfisherman in yacht disguise.”

On the aft section, designers have swapped an open beach club for a fishing platform. The space is equipped with numerous features to elevate the fishing experience—and protect the yacht. “We have rod holders everywhere and on the back deck is a flushing system,” says the captain. “There are also lockers to keep the fish on ice, freezers that flash-freeze fish down to the right temperature, and live wells for keeping the bait alive until we get to the fishing spot.”

To enhance the experience, the designers created an outdoor “Fisherman’s Lounge” in the cockpit, kitted out with comfy sofas and screens showing live feeds from underwater “fishfinder” cameras placed across the hull.

A charcoal-hued stone theme runs throughout with textured jura and veined pietra grigia limestone, which are both used generously. Textured linear wall coverings by Innovations add color and personality, while the custom furniture pieces are artworks in themselves. In the dining room, the table—in walnut with brass inlays—is a piece of art by Alex Hull, while the headboard in the bedroom is a custom abstract art piece in plaster by DKT. Even the day head has been given an artistic touch, with an accent wall featuring a custom scooped panel by Dmitri Livenstov.

The heart of the interior is the open-plan main salon. The space is wide and filled with light, thanks to the panoramic windows and sliding doors that create a connection to the outside. The lounge is fitted with bespoke features that you’d be hard pressed to find on any other sportfishing yacht, including custom temperature-controlled wine fridges, DJ decks, and a top-tier sound system that is ideal for parties.

Speaking of which, a noteworthy architectural highlight can be found on the deck above, where a staircase winds through a glass-topped atrium to the upper deck lounge to the ultimate party pad with DJ decks, powerful CAT speakers, disco lights, and even a teak-friendly machine that sprays foam to get the party started. The glass top slides back at the press of a button, and closes again to protect the atrium from rain—or, in this case, foam.

Another interesting space is the full-beam media room, located just off the main salon. Its focal piece is a giant Samsung screen known as “The Wall.” As well as movie screenings, the device can be used for live viewing, gaming, and even watching the fishing outside.

The room also has a poker table and various games consoles, including a PlayStation 5, karaoke system, Xbox, and several fish finder viewers. The setup allows guests to watch their favorite film while keeping one eye on where the yacht is sailing—and their fishing rods—all at the same time.

After a day of activities, the owner can retire to the full-beam owner’s suite. In the private hallway is a giant “whale’s tale” piece of art, a walk-in-wardrobe, a bathroom with standalone bath, and a giant bed with another huge television screen.

The cabin opens onto a private deck with a wraparound terrace that houses another unique element: a dog-relief area. Controlled through sensors and cameras, the patch of synthetic “grass” is automatically cleaned with sprinklers after a pet has done its business.

To accommodate an additional eight guests, there are four guest cabins, including two doubles and two twins. The yacht also quarters to sleep 14 crew.

U.S. Eyes $156 Million Yacht in Dubai Linked to a Russian Oligarch

The U.S. Justice Department is taking steps to seize the Madame Gu, a 324-foot luxury yacht, but it will be diplomatically thorny.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — On a clear morning in late October, the jewel-blue hull of the Madame Gu, one of the world’s most luxurious superyachts, gleamed, its aluminum rails shimmering in the sun. Workers on the pier said they had recently seen people painting, cleaning and generally keeping the ship with its helipad and six guest staterooms in pristine condition.

In past years, such a scene would not have been noteworthy. Many superyachts come and go from Dubai’s Mina Rashid Marina, best known as the home of the Queen Elizabeth 2, the trans-Atlantic ocean liner-turned-hotel that dominates the waterfront here.

But Russia’s war in Ukraine has turned an otherwise routine tableau into a diplomatic battleground between the United States and the United Arab Emirates, an important American ally that has established itself as a safe haven for Russian money and assets out of the reach of U.S. sanctions.

The $156 million Madame Gu epitomizes the problem. In June, the United States designated the vessel, which is linked to Andrei Skoch, a Russian steel magnate and lawmaker under sanctions, as blocked property. That means the yacht cannot use American companies for its upkeep, employ U.S. citizens or even use the dollar. The Justice Department is now taking steps to seize the Madame Gu, according to people with knowledge of the plan.

But the United States can’t seize property in a sovereign nation without permission from its government. The Emirates, which has taken a friendlier position toward Moscow, is balking at cooperating with the United States to pursue oligarchs, American officials said. The Kremlin is also using oligarch-controlled companies in the Emirates to acquire war supplies that the West is trying to keep out of Russia’s reach, according to a Western official involved in the sanctions effort against Russia.

Emirati officials did not comment specifically on the Madame Gu but said in a statement that they took their role “protecting the integrity of the global financial system extremely seriously.”

A closer examination of Russian assets in the Emirates shows that even before the war in Ukraine, Dubai had become a playground for Russians with links to President Vladimir V. Putin. At least 38 businessmen or officials with ties to the Russian president own homes in Dubai that are collectively valued at more than $314 million, according to the Center for Advanced Defense Studies. Five of those owners are under U.S. sanctions.

Since the Russian invasion, Dubai has established itself as a safe haven for Russian yachts and aircraft unable to sail or fly elsewhere. After Russian jets were barred from the European Union in late February, the Emirates became the destination for 14 percent of all private flights leaving Russia, up from 3 percent before the invasion.

“It’s frustrating when you see huge assets that are sitting out there and it appears that the country is not cooperating,” said Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, referring to the Emirates. “It would be nice if there were more common cause against Putin while he’s busy shelling hospitals and schools.”

Mr. Whitehouse is sponsoring legislation that would use proceeds of the sales of seized Russian assets to help rebuild Ukraine. Senior officials at the Treasury and State Departments have also complained publicly about the situation.

U.S. officials view the presence of superyachts in places like Dubai and Bodrum, Turkey , as a symptom of wider Russian circumvention of sanctions and continued access to financial markets. Yachts have also come to symbolize the decadence of Russia’s oligarchs, especially at a time when Russian soldiers are scrounging for body armor and sleeping bags on the front lines.

Pursuing the Madame Gu

Built by the Dutch firm Feadship and put into service in 2013, the Madame Gu has a large helicopter pad on its forecastle with a hangar underneath that can double as a squash court when the chopper isn’t on board. The vessel has berthing for 36 crew members, according to one trade magazine.

Mr. Skoch, a member of Russia’s Parliament who is linked to assets worth billions of dollars, according to U.S. court filings, has had sanctions imposed on him twice by the United States, first in 2018 and then after Russia’s invasion this year. The Treasury Department has cited his “longstanding ties to Russian organized criminal groups.”

Mr. Skoch could not be reached and did not respond to messages left at his office at Parliament.

In an interview in October about the government’s broader efforts to go after the assets of oligarchs, Andrew Adams, a federal prosecutor leading the Department of Justice’s KleptoCapture task force, declined to discuss the Madame Gu. But the United States, he said, is warning companies they must not do business with individuals and assets under sanctions. The government, he said, will pursue oligarch-owned assets whose sale could be used to aid Ukraine.

“Where we know there is an asset that can potentially provide significant remuneration for Ukraine, that obviously is an attractive case to pursue,” he said.

U.S. officials are likely to use the case they made for impounding a $90 million Airbus business jet linked to Mr. Skoch in August as a blueprint for seizing the Madame Gu, said people familiar with the plan.

That means investigators will aim to show that the owner of the vessel, or the companies that have been providing services to it, have intersected with the U.S. financial system.

“If there are U.S. dollars or a U.S. nexus associated with supporting this vessel, massive enforcement actions could take place,” said Adam M. Smith, a former official overseeing sanctions at the Treasury Department. Companies that provide support to entities under sanctions could potentially face their own sanctions, said Mr. Smith, who is now a lawyer at Gibson Dunn in Washington.

This year the United States has carried out two high-profile seizures of yachts tied to Russians under sanctions, working with cooperative governments. The $300 million Amadea was taken in Fiji in May and sailed to San Diego under an American flag. In April, the United States worked with Spanish police to seize the $90 million Tango.

A Problematic Partner

Diplomatically, the Emirates has been reluctant to take a clear anti-Russian position when it comes to the war in Ukraine. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, recently met with Mr. Putin in St. Petersburg, and the Emirati foreign minister recently hosted his Russian counterpart. Yet Sheikh Mohammed has also talked with Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, more than once and recently gave the country $100 million in humanitarian aid.

The United States has publicly expressed dismay over the mixed messages.

During a visit to Dubai in June, Wally Adeyemo, the U.S. deputy treasury secretary, warned of the need for vigilance and proactive steps in combating Russian evasion. That same month Barbara Leaf, the State Department’s under secretary for Near East Affairs, said at a congressional hearing that regarding the Emirates, she was “not happy at all with the record at this point” on sanctions enforcement. Mr. Adeyemo reiterated his concerns in a meeting with Emirati officials in October in Washington.

A senior State Department official said in a statement to The New York Times that the agency continues “to reinforce the importance of conducting enhanced due diligence to prevent sanctions evasion and investigating allegations of such activity” to the Emirates.

The Treasury Department declined to comment on the Madame Gu or the relationship with the Emirates.

Last month, the Treasury Department announced it had placed sanctions on an Emirates-based company, Constellation Advisors Ltd., that the American government said was operating on behalf of a nephew of another Russian oligarch, Suleiman Kerimov. Mr. Kerimov, according to American court documents, was the owner of the Amadea superyacht .

American officials are also worried the Russian government is using the Emirates to acquire military supplies for its war in Ukraine. On Nov. 15, the Treasury Department imposed sanctions on two Emirates-based transportation firms that had worked with another Iranian firm under sanctions, which in turn had helped transport drones and personnel from Iran to Russia.

Moored in Dubai

Based on a recent visit to Dubai’s Mina Rashid Marina , where the Madame Gu is moored, it is clear that international companies are playing a critical role in its care.

The Emirates-based company DP World, through its subsidiary P&O Marinas , oversees the pier where the Madame Gu is moored. Employees from another DP World subsidiary , World Security, staff the small guard box at the entrance. That makes DP World, which is owned by Dubai’s royal family, potentially vulnerable to American sanctions.

DP World “fully complies with all applicable local and national laws and intends to continue doing the same regarding the Madame Gu and other vessels utilizing our services,” said Adal Mirza, a spokesman for the company. He added that DP World had not yet heard from the United States or other countries that had placed Mr. Skoch under sanctions, including Britain and the European Union.

A generator set that dock workers said in late October was powering the Madame Gu — two container-like structures near its stern — bore the distinctive orange logo of Aggreko , a British company. The generator set was connected to the superyacht by thick cords; one of the containers was emitting grayish exhaust.

At the Mina Rashid Marina, soon after Aggreko was contacted by The Times, workers removed the generator. “Having identified that the generator was being used to power a vessel that is allegedly connected to a sanctioned person, we immediately terminated this rental and have since recovered the generator,” the company said in a statement.

Mr. Mirza, the DP World spokesman, said the Aggreko generator had been replaced with one from a local supplier.

P&O Marinas arranged for the diesel generator to provide power for the Madame Gu because that part of the pier, a holding area, has no shore-supplied electric power, said a port official in Dubai, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk to the press.

“At the end of the day, if the U.A.E. hasn’t imposed sanctions, it’s not really their job to enforce other countries’ laws within their borders,” said Nabeel Yousef, a Washington-based partner at the law firm Freshfields, where he runs the sanctions practice. Nevertheless, “companies should not take comfort in the fact that their country has not imposed sanctions,” he added, “because even the smallest connection to the U.S. can lead to U.S. penalties.”

There has also been a notable absence onboard the Madame Gu in recent weeks: a flag. Unlike other ships moored nearby, including the Quantum Blue, a superyacht linked to the billionaire Sergei Galitsky, the Madame Gu appears to be stateless, apparently having been deflagged by the Cayman Islands.

Cayman Islands officials didn’t respond to an emailed inquiry about the ship’s status.

If DP World were to face fallout from U.S. sanctions enforcers, it wouldn’t be the first time the company has been the focus of attention in Washington. In 2006, DP World was seeking to manage some terminal operations at six American ports but dropped out of the deal after a bipartisan uproar in Congress.

Our Coverage of the War in Ukraine

News and Analysis

Russian missiles streaked into Kyiv  in the biggest assault on the Ukrainian capital in weeks, injuring several people and damaging several buildings.

Jake Sullivan, President Biden’s top national security official, made a secret trip to Kyiv to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and reaffirm the United States’ unwavering commitment to Ukraine.

Under pressure to come up with billions of dollars to support Ukraine’s military, the E.U. said that it had devised a legal way to use frozen Russian assets  to help arm Ukraine.

Symbolism or Strategy?: Ukrainians say that defending places with little strategic value is worth the cost in casualties and weapons , because the attacking Russians pay an even higher price. American officials aren’t so sure.

Elaborate Tales: As the Ukraine war grinds on, the Kremlin has created increasingly complex fabrications online  to discredit Ukraine’s leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, and undermine the country’s support in the West.

Targeting Russia’s Oil Industry: With its army short of ammunition and troops to break the deadlock on the battlefield, Kyiv has increasingly taken the fight beyond the Ukrainian border, attacking oil infrastructure deep in Russian territory .
