1997 Home Built Phil Bolger design ketch, Cutest sailboat EVER! 15' Phil Bolger designed cat yawl completed in 1997 and lightly used. She has a fiberglass over wood hull, no leaks, and feels larger than 15'. Nice size berth with portable porta potty. Comes with easyloader trailer (lights not working). The boat has never been moored and always wintered in garage. The sails are in great condition and are a custom dacron in an aged canvas color to compliment it's classic look. They have been stored inside in bags and never in the weather. (The last picture of the boat under sail is similar but not this boat. The sails are a lighter color.) The included motor is an older Evinrude 3 h.p. and worked well 5 years ago. I have used a newer 6 h.p. (not included) and found the extra horsepower was appreciated against currents. All spars are carried on supports for easy trailering and an extended tongue makes launching a breeze. She's a delight to sail and ALWAYS turns heads. She is dry, stable, and unsinkable. The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

The 420 is a fantastic sailboat that comes in 4 different trim levels: Instinct, Emotion, Evoque and the Laura Dekker Edition.

The Instinct is the base model which is perfect for beginners. It has a Dacron sail and does not have a boomed mainsail which sacrifices some performance to create a safer learning experience.

The Emotion is the perfect sports boat, for a more experience sailors. It offers a true sporting experience for those that like to go fast, but also surprises with its versatility. The main sail is made of transparent Monofilm and controlled by an aluminum boom. This enables the optimal sail profile settings to achieve maximum performance and speed.

The Evoque is for those that intend to race their boat with the intention of winning! It uses a carbon bowsprit, boom and rudder instead of aluminum and fiberglass which decreases the weight of the boat. The sail is made of Monofilm & Racing Polyester X-PLY line. The Laura Dekker Edition is top of the line! It has the same carbon fiber upgrades as the Evoque as well as a traveller and a eye-catching carbon fiber Poly-X racing main sail and jib. SAILORS Tips for buying a 420

If you are planning to buy a brand new boat, then you should contact the importers in your country or the 420 Licensed Builders directly.

As with any boat, if you are planning to buy a second-hand 420 then there are some top tips to ensure you buy the best possible boat for your money.

Top Tips for buying a 420 boat

Certificate

On arrival ask to see the certificate, every 420 has one.
Determine the age of the boat, now check the certificate registration number against the plaque number in the hull, if these tie up registration is in order.
The next and most important step is to check for correctors, the certificate will tell you what correctors, if any, are fitted. Correctors on modern 420s are fitted to the transom but on earlier boats they were fitted under the thwart. If correctors are listed but not in place they have been removed illegally i.e. without the authority of an official measurer, who would issue a letter stating that the boat had been reweighed and the new weight should be recorded on the certificate.
Most boats gain weight after a season’s hard racing; a one year old boat will probably gain one kg and a three year old boat probably two to two and a half kg. depending on after sailing care.
Many new boats are built up to minimum weight of 80kg at the client’s request, whilst other clients like to see correctors. The advantage of a second hand boat with correctors is that the weight can be reduced by their removal .

Now for the construction check. Start with the tank to floor flanges to see if they are parting. If there are any signs of de-lamination then beware as this is a job for the professional. A cumbersome repair will be very evident.
Move to the gunwhales and check for parting of the hull-deck joint. If all is in order, check the stem head fitting for security - remember this anchorage takes a pounding and can work loose,
Look under the hull carefully and check for splits or bodged repairs especially in the vicinity of the centre board slot.
Check the foils for general wear and tear; they are indeed replaceable but expensive. Try to borrow a thickness gauge to check for maximum thickness of 20mm.Wood foils can fail on thickness but GRP foils are generally trouble free.
Spars should not be a problem, but watch out for missing black bands on masts and booms.
Sails should be checked for the correct numbers, and make sure that the spinnaker is numbered on both sides. The sails should be signed, by a measurer, near the tack and if so check the measurer’s date. In this way you will be able to tell if the sails are from that boat or are re-numbered from an earlier boat.

Amadeus Description

Built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard, and having undergone a total refit in 2018, S/Y Amadeus was designed to please the most demanding of yachtsmen. Built for smooth sailing, this elegant cutter rigged sloop has a sleek hull design, comfortably reaching top speeds of 12 knots and ensuring excellent sailing performance. S/Y Amadeus has just undergone this past winter (2018) a major refit such as total repaint top to bottom, new rigging (BSI Denmark), Novourania with new Evinrude 75hp outboard, Splash pool, new Bimini/Sprayhood/Awnings, new exterior fabrics and many other enhancements. In 2016 new “North Sails” were placed onboard. The yacht is maintained in excellent condition with a five-star crew year round. Her generous uncluttered teak deck offers plenty of space for sunbathing. The spacious and unique outdoor saloon has two tables seating upto 12 guests and is a perfect setting for outdoor dining and entertainment. Thanks to a special canopy and roll-up windows, the deck saloon has the added attraction that it can be fully enclosed, making it ideal for all weather conditions. Her forward area includes a splash pool and sun bathing area which can also be shaded with a removable awning. From the cockpit, a stairway leads to the light-filled spacious saloon offering ample seating, ideal for relaxing or enjoying a drink from the bar, and offers a formal dining area. This area also includes a LCD TV, entertainment center, ipod dock station, playstation, and is ideal for indoor activities. She can accommodate 10-12 guests in one full width master stateroom, two double bedded cabins each having one extra single bed and two twin bedded cabins which can be easily converted to double beds (upon request), thus, making her the only 5 double bedded sailboat in the Greek market. She also has a nice selection of toys which include water ski (adult and children), tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod and snorkeling gear.

CAPTAIN - Harry Fotopoulos Captain Harry is a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy and holds a Captain Class A’ Diploma. He also holds a Canadian Commercial Pilot license class B, sailing and speedboat license. He has over 15 years of experience onboard many types of Charter Yachts. He holds Certificates in GMDSS, Fire Fighting & First Aid, Personal Safety, Life Saving, and Ship Security. He has a great knowledge of the Greek islands and will navigate guests to remarkable destinations. During his one season on board he showed great leadership skills and received positive feedback from all guests. He is calm yet very outgoing and speaks very good English. DECKHAND - Konstantinos Santas CHIEF STEWARDESS - Mirella Davint Mirella has 8+ years of experience as a stewardess onboard charter and private yachts. She has a very pleasant personality and she aims to accommodate her guests to the fullest. Comments received from previous guests are memorable. This will be Mirella’s eighth season onboard. Mirella speaks English and she is 38 years old. ENGINEER - Stelios Mandos Stelios holds an Engineer Class B’ Diploma from the Greek Merchant Marine Academy as well as a Sailor’s License. He has over 15 years of experience onboard Ocean-Going Vessels and Charter Yachts. His hobbies include spearfishing and sailing. He speaks good English. Stelios is 45 years old, married with two children. CHEF - Thanasis Kiritsis Thanasis is 39 years old and has worked as a chef for more than 20 years in numerous hotels restaurants, yachts and resorts including owning his own pastry shop / bakery for 5 years. Thanasis looks forward to welcoming his guests on board and introducing them to his culinary world. He speaks good English and Greek. He is a young chef full of energy, skills and passion towards his job. We are confident that he will serve his guests unforgettable flavors. ASSISTANT STEWARDESS - Anastasia Yurash Anastasia is 31 years old and has been in the yachting industry since 2021. Her working experience includes 7 years as a housekeeper and assistant stewardess. Anastasia speaks very good English. One of Anastasia’s strongest attributes is her appetite for work. She is also very sociable, welcoming and looks forward to having guests on board S/Y Amadeus. Her hobbies include Latin dancing, snowboard and yoga.

A General Description of Sailing Yacht AMADEUS

AMADEUS was previously registered as project/yacht name Amadeus 1er. This 33 metre (109 ft) luxury yacht was built by Dynamique Yachts in 1991. Sailing Yacht AMADEUS is a well proportioned superyacht. The yacht is a modern sloop with a cutter rig. The naval architecture office whom authored the design work on this ship was Philippe Briand. Luxury yacht AMADEUS is a quality yacht that is able to accommodate as many as 12 guests on board and has a total of 5 crew members.

Sailing yacht AMADEUS was built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard .The yacht features superb sailing characteristics which are complimented by her spacious interior and abundant deck space. Sailing sloop AMADEUS can accommodate 10 passengers in five cabins. With one large master stateroom and four additional cabins which are all air conditioned and have en suite bathrooms. She also has two separate salons and a full dining room. The aft deck is fully covered with seating. The fore deck has an unique pool on deck and swimming in the sea is made accessible by a large swim aft platform.

The Construction & Naval Architecture relating to Luxury Yacht AMADEUS

Philippe Briand was the naval architect firm involved in the formal nautical design work for AMADEUS. Also the company Philippe Briand skillfully collaborated on this undertaking. In 1991 she was actually launched to triumph in Marans and following sea trials and final completion was afterwards passed on to the yacht owner. Dynamique Yachts completed their new build sailing yacht in France. A reasonable proportion is brought about with a maximum beam (width) of 7.5 metres / 24.6 feet. With a 3.6m (11.8ft) draught (maximum depth) she is reasonably deep. The material composite was used in the building of the hull of the sailing yacht. Her superstructure above deck is built with the use of composite. Over the deck of AMADEUS she is 32.7 (107.3 ft) in length. In 2004 extra refitting and modernisation was also finished.

Engines & Speed For S/Y AMADEUS:

She is driven by twin screw propellers. The main engine of the ship gives 375 horse power (or 276 kilowatts). She is equiped with 2 engines. The combined thrust for the boat is therefore 750 HP / 552 KW.

Bestowing bedding for a maximum of 12 yacht guests sleeping aboard, the AMADEUS accommodates them in style. Normally the vessel requires approximately 5 professional crewmembers to run.

Her master cabin features a walk around king bed, desk/vanity, and en-suite bathroom. Additionally, there are two guest cabins each with a queen bed convertible to two twins, and two guest cabins each with a queen bed and twin bed. Each guest cabin has an en-suite.

Her main salon has a spacious, contoured conversational area, along with a large, flatscreen T.V. The aft deck features al fresco dining with Bimini top. Up on deck there are sun pads and a splash pool for you and your guests to enjoy.

Watersports offered include a 15 foot tender with 75hp engine, water skis for adults and children, tube, wakeboard, kayak, fishing gear, snorkeling gear, and rendezvous diving.

Sailing yacht AMADEUS is a stunning 110 ft yacht available for charter in Greece. With a clean, spacious teak deck and a unique outdoor saloon that can seat up to 12 guests across two tables, it’s the perfect place for outdoor dining and entertainment. The deck saloon can also be enclosed with a special canopy and roll-up windows, making it suitable for use in all weather conditions. At the front of the boat, there’s a splash pool and sunbathing area with a removable awning for shade.

Inside the boat, a staircase from the cockpit leads to a well-lit and roomy saloon area with plenty of seating, including a formal dining area, bar, LCD TV, entertainment center, iPod dock station, and Playstation. Sailing Yacht AMADEUS can accommodate 10-12 guests in five large cabins, including a full-width master stateroom and two double cabins, each with an extra single bed. The two twin cabins can also be converted to doubles upon request, making her the only sailboat on the Greek market with five double beds.

To add to the fun, sailing yacht AMADEUS also comes with a range of water toys, including adult and children’s water skis, tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod, and snorkeling gear. She was built by Dynamique Yachts in 1996 and underwent a refit in 2014/2018.

Accomodation is offered for 10 -12 guests in 5 spacious cabins: Master cabin forward features a double bed, vanity unit and generous storage facilities, as well as audio/visual entertainment. The en-suite includess a large bath tub, shower and separate WC. Two identical double cabins with additional single bunks situated forward. Two identical double cabins situated aft which can be convertible to twins. (Total 5 double beds) All cabins with en suite facilities and audio/visual entertainment.

A professional crew of 5-6 members are accommodated in separate quarters.

Charter the AMADEUS

AMADEUS is a 110-foot sailing yacht that can accommodate ten to twelve passengers in five staterooms as follows: a spacious Owner’s stateroom with a double bed, a vanity and an entertainment unit including TV, DVD and music system; two cabins with a double bed and an additional single bed; two cabins with two twin beds each. All staterooms have en suite bathrooms, a TV, DVD and CD player. There are two separate salons onboard as well as a full dining room. The aft deck is fully covered and has seating for all guests to dine in the open air. Forward of the cockpit is a lovely cushioned area for sunning and an unusual pool is found in the fore of the yacht. Swimming in the sea is made accessible by the large swim aft platform.

Built in 2008, Amadeus offers guest accommodation for up to 6 guests in 3 suites comprising a master suite, one VIP cabin and one twin cabin. There are 4 beds in total, including 1 queen, 1 double and 2 singles. She is also capable of carrying up to 2 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

Whatever your activities on your charter, you'll find some impressive features are seamlessly integrated to help you, notably Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to stay connected at all times, should you wish. Guests will experience complete comfort while chartering thanks to air conditioning.

A fair in Russia is an open-air market, although it could also be described as a bazaar. It comes with all the usual trappings: noise, shouting, haggling to get two-thirds off the price of a product that is at least five times overpriced, ever-present pickpockets, and the same thrill of the chase that causes Europeans to snap up carpets in Tunisia and matryoshka dolls in Moscow. Buying Russian souvenirs anywhere else is pointless.

Young girls carefully select shawls to match their eyes and hair and to wear them with fur coats. It became fashionable just a year ago, and it really does look beautiful. European tourists sometimes cling to old preconceptions that, supposedly, "only grannies wear such scarves."

Besides clothing, Russian fairs teem with matryoshkas and other wooden objects. Such souvenirs not only decorate shelves, but can also be put to good use in the kitchen: Russian-style spoons, plates, or spatulas make a great gift.

Some tourists admit to occasionally scouring Russian markets for old Soviet antiques. Dulled World War II medals, military clothing, badges, books — these are all of wild interest to collectors. It should be noted that such medals and decorations were awarded to people for heroism on the battlefield, and then sold to dealers out of extreme poverty. Selling and buying state awards is illegal, and special permission must be obtained before trying to take them out of the country. So be forewarned.

Utensils occupy a special place among Russian souvenirs. For example, the rare samovar is still a symbol of Russian life, despite having been replaced by the ubiquitous kettle. From time to time, visitors might still catch a glimpse of a large and beautiful samovar on a dining table. The famous dishware from the town of Gzhel is also a trademark of Russia, renowned for its intricate patterns and colors. Gzhel is an ancient center of porcelain, earthenware, and pottery production.

And, of course, many people want to indulge themselves and their friends with good old-fashioned pancakes, cakes, and kvass. Moscow periodically hosts honey fairs, with different varieties brought in from all over Russia. Fair-goers can spend all day tasting honey. At such events, tourists can also have a sip of a light alcoholic drink known as medovukha, or sweet mead.

Red Square market

This is the most banal option, perfect for lazybones. On exiting Teatralnaya metro station, you will see a series of tents with the usual suspects: dolls, hats, scarves. Pros: you do not have far to go if you are staying in the center, and you will be able to visit the Kremlin and Red Square at the same time. Cons: everything is overpriced and rather clichéd.

Strolling along this historic pedestrian street at the heart of Moscow, you can hear live music, buy your own portrait, and pick up souvenirs or even a tattoo. Pros: the street itself is of historical interest. There is quite a wide variety of souvenirs and lots of pictures. Cons: the prices are slightly inflated.

Sparrow Hills

This famous tourist attraction is a kind of observation deck from which to view Moscow. There is never a shortage of stalls with souvenirs. The choice, however, is not large, even though it is somewhat more varied than the selection on Red Square. Pros: at Sparrow Hills you can take a ride up the chairlift or a boat trip from one of the piers; in good weather, you can see almost all of Moscow from the observation point. Cons: a rather limited selection and generally very windy conditions, even in summer.

Vernisazh at Izmailovo

This is perhaps the most famous and largest market in the area, located at Partizanskaya metro station to the east of Moscow. Here you can find souvenirs galore, including giant matryoshkas and numerous Soviet antiques and paintings. Seasoned tourists recommend going deep into the belly of the market, where things are cheaper and haggling is easier. Pros: a vast selection and located near Izmailovo Kremlin. Cons: quite far from the center of the center.

Shikoku Mule (Yuzu Moscow Mule)

This Shikoku Mule is a creation based on the popular Moscow Mule cocktail. It’s technically a Yuzu Moscow Mule but I also used Japanese shochu instead of vodka to make this new refreshing cocktail drink.

While I used Japanese ingredients to make this recipe, I didn’t simply want to name this “Japan Mule” (which just sounds odd) or something meaningless like “Tokyo Mule” just because that’s the city in Japan that everyone knows. I named this Shikoku Mule because Shikoku in Japan is where yuzu is predominately produced.

What is yuzu?

Yuzu is a citrus fruit that can be explained as “not quite a lemon, not quite a tangerine” but the flavor of it has been described as “a cross between a grapefruit and a lime.” It’s very fragrant and has an elegant tart flavor that yuzu can be found in many cooking ingredients as well as in beauty and bath products.

Where in Japan is Shikoku?

Shikoku is smallest of the four major islands of Japan. The name directly translates as “four countries” and true to its name, the island is made up of four prefectures. Just so that you have a better idea of where Shikoku is, here is the map:

Shikoku, incidentally, is also a Japanese breed of dogs , a lesser known cousin to Akita or Shiba Inu . That’s not why I named this drink Shikoku although, now that I’m thinking about it, I also made a Salty Shiba cocktail drink recently. Hmm…I see a trend. But there’s nothing wrong with combining my two favorite things: dogs and cocktails!

What is Shochu?

Shochu (pronounced show-chew ) that I used as the base alcohol for this cocktail, is a Japanese alcoholic beverage distilled typically from sweet potatoes, barley, buckwheat, brown sugar or rice. Shochu works great for this recipe since, unlike vodka, it doesn’t overpower the flavors of other ingredients in the drink. So that you can enjoy the natural, vibrant flavors of yuzu and ginger beer.

Ginger beer

So, what exactly is ginger beer? It’s a carbonated drink, with spicy ginger flavor, that is usually non-alcoholic.

Since also I found alcoholic ginger beer, I made them two different ways – one using alcoholic ginger beer Wild Ginger and another one using the non-alcoholic version, Fever-Tree Premium Ginger Beer. They are equally refreshing. The alcoholic version just has a little more boost.

Shikoku Mule (Yuzu Moscow Mule) Recipe

Ingredients:

1 oz yuzu juice or yuzu syrup
1 oz shochu
4 oz ginger beer

Glass: Copper mule mug or old-fashioned

Garnish : One or a combination of:

Lemon wedge

Instructions :

Fill a glass with ice cubes.
Add shochu and yuzu juice.
Fill the glass to the top with ginger beer.
Gently mix, garnish and serve.
