This begins back at the factory in New Jersey when the dealer representative and customer meet with Viking's international sales team, engineers and production managers. Viking's experienced team can provide valuable consultation in engine and equipment selection, including appliances, electronics and entertainment systems. All international boats can be built to the requirements of the specific region and meet all CE specifications for safety to satisfy various import rules and regulations. Electrical systems will feature 220v/50 cycle service commonly used beyond the shores of the United States, and Viking is equipped at the factory to run and thoroughly test every system before the boat is delivered. Additionally, Viking's electrical engineering department can add frequency converters so all of the yacht's systems will also work in the United States on 120v/60 cycles. This is important because many international owners will want to use their Viking in the United States to experience our excellent fishing and cruising grounds before shipping the boat to its overseas home. This also serves as a most valuable shakedown period for the boat and its owner, and breeds familiarity with the numerous onboard systems. Viking also maintains two modern service yards in South Florida near major shipping ports. These yards are well equipped to make final adjustments or fine tune the yacht before it leaves for home. Most importantly for the international customer, Viking's experience allows us to deliver the utmost satisfaction to the owner. Thus, if requirements call for additional staterooms for the owner's party, private accessed crew quarters, safety or entertainment options all can be addressed and handled with relative ease at the factory while the boat is under construction. Stories about diesel engine warranties range from boat owners who are quite pleased with their service to others who claim loopholes big enough to drive — or tow — their boats through. The truth is that most engine manufacturers are forthcoming about maintenance they expect. Boat owners are wise to know what to do to ensure coverage.

“Some people say, ‘I’ll run it till it breaks. It’s covered under warranty.’ But maybe it isn’t,” says Peter Frederiksen, communications director for Viking Yachts . “Make sure to read that warranty. Ask questions about it.” Frederiksen points out, for example, that engine computers keep records of all alarms. Continuing to run in an alarm condition may void the warranty. Understand what both the engine manual and warranty say about specific alarms, including whether to head to the closest port for repairs or wait for service until a trip ends.

While electronic engine history might exclude warranty repairs by proving negligence, it can also track the progression of parts failures to include otherwise questionable coverage. In one example, a simple air intake problem caused a turbo to overheat. When the turbo shaft broke, it spewed engine oil and the engine seized. Data proved this happened before alarms — and the skipper — could react. “The boat ended up with a new long block. That would have been a $160,000 repair,” says Charlie Schloemer, president of Palm Beach Power . The boat was near the end of its 60-month extended service policy.

With both standard and extended warranties, timely maintenance and careful records help ensure coverage. “They’re not saying routine maintenance has to be done by an authorized dealer,” Schloemer, an MTU dealer, says. “They want a record of who did what, when, and what parts were put in. Oil and coolant must meet MTU specs, and filters have to come from MTU.”

To stay atop warranty requirements, address all issues promptly and completely. Schloemer warns, for example, that MTU requires a coolant sample when he replaces a leaky circulating pump. If that leak was allowed to continue and the cooling system was topped off with plain water repeatedly over several months, the antifreeze ratio likely won’t meet MTU’s specification. That pump might not be covered, nor might extensive repairs caused if that pump failed and overheated the engine.

A clear service history is particularly important during resale. “Having a warranty adds security to the person buying a boat,” Frederiksen says. “Your boat is going to stand out. You’ll get a return on that [warranty] money” — but not if the buyer perceives any question regarding warranty coverage.

When buying a boat with a warranty, have the engines surveyed by a company-authorized facility. Ask the service manager beforehand for something concrete showing that the service tech specifically looked for, but couldn’t find, anything that might negate warranty coverage. Even with a clean mechanical history, check original contracts. Some European boats might not include warranty coverage in the United States, or vice versa, and warranties may have been initiated before the original owner bought the boat, particularly a boat that had been in a dealer’s inventory or used in boat shows. Past charter service is another red flag for a pleasure-boat warranty.

When details are tended to, extended warranties do pay off. “Caterpillar’s attitude has always been ‘Let’s get this taken care of and make your boss happy,” says Capt. Triston Hunt. The 2005 sport-fisher he runs has had three engine overhauls covered. Hunt does warn, though, that Caterpillar tends to do only the minimum required to get the boat running. He suggests consulting an independent mechanic or surveyor to ensure the best possible repair. He documents any deviations from those suggestions in writing. “Don’t be afraid to call Caterpillar directly,” Hunt says. “Everything reasonable that I’ve asked for I’ve gotten.”

Extended warranty plans vary by manufacturer. Caterpillar’s prices are fixed for each model, regardless of horsepower. In 2012, five-year Platinum Plus extended service coverage for C32 engines ranging from 1,450 to 1,900 horsepower cost about $13,330 for up to 1,500 total engine hours or $22,230 for unlimited hours, per engine. That extends Caterpillar’s initial two-year warranty by three years with no deductible. Five-year Platinum Plus coverage for 930- to 1,150-horsepower Caterpillar C18 engines is $9,090 for 1,500 total hours or $15,150 for unlimited engine hours. Prices for most models fall by nearly 40 percent for four-year total coverage, and they drop more than 50 percent between four- and three-year plans. Cat also offers Platinum plans that cost and cover a bit less.

MTU’s extended protection coverage provides up to three years of additional service, mirroring the standard two-year warranty. Prices vary both by engine horsepower and engine hours. A $500 deductible per engine per service call covers anything a mechanic may turn up, from a simple fuel leak to a major overhaul. That includes all return trips until those service orders are closed.

There is some fine print to understand, though. “Warranty coverage includes travel and labor, but not plane tickets or overnight accommodations,” Schloemer says. Engine manufacturers also typically look to the closest source for repairs. “If you’re my customer in Palm Beach and something happens in the Florida Keys, MTU will still pay me for repairs, but it’ll likely only cover travel from the closest MTU dealer,” Schloemer says.

“No one likes to break down,” says Andrew Boyer, marine sales manager for MTU (now Tognum America ), “but if you’re under warranty or have extended coverage, you’ve got peace of mind that the boat will be up and running with minimal cost.” MTU and other diesel manufacturers simply ask that engines are maintained to their specification.

“My maintenance is impeccable and I have records to back it up,” Hunt says. “Maybe that’s why I’ve never had questions about coverage.” The bottom line to ensuring warranty coverage, Hunt says: “Read and follow the manual.”

2) Engine Bed System

Viking boats use a unique engine bed system that can have problems where they attach to the hull. Therefore, you want to inspect these points of attachment carefully.

You want to pay attention to the stringers. If the holes are not lined up correctly, you may not want to purchase that Viking. In many cases, this type of stringer problem is because someone drilled holes where they do not belong.

When the holes are drilled in the wrong place, it is expensive and could be beyond repair.

3) Older Model Boats

Viking has been through many changes over the decades. They also had some rough moments when they had to slim down their crew of employees.

However, they managed to make it through the tough times to create a solid reputation for constantly improving their boats.

If you have an older boat or are interested in purchasing an older boat, there are some issues you should look out for when looking at the boat.

The older versions of Vikings have wood stringers which have a tendency to rot. In addition, these older models may have engine mounts that are loose. Unfortunately, these problems are not universal for every Viking model.

Some of these problems could be as a result of someone building the boat incorrectly. If you want to purchase a used Viking, you should have a qualified marine surveyor assess the boat.

Viking boats are still going strong, and they are making durable and reliable boats.

Unfortunately, this also means that the parts for Viking boats are still being made.

Viking Yachts has created a large network where their customers can look for older or spare parts. They also have a customer service team is full of experts that have been trained on all the different models and systems.

Even when a customer is looking for a replacement part, that is hard to find. The customer service team can help customers find any part for all their boating needs.

General Pros and Cons for the Viking Yacht

Viking uses their own production facilities to manufacture all parts for their boats, with the exception of engines, electronics, transmission systems, and air conditioning units.

Viking Yachts pay attention to all details when building their boats. No matter if it is the wiring harness, fiberglass fuel tank, or a hull-to-deck through-bolted joint.

Viking Yachts use a vacuum suction process on their boats. This process is in combination with the resin infusion of the fiberglass sheets.

This process sucks the air from the molding and pulls the resins in to replace this space. In addition, this process pulls composite material evenly in all sections of the molds.

• Older models may have stringers in the wrong place due to poor building.
• Some older models may contain rot where water has come in.

What Do the Reviews Say?

While there is some mention of water intrusion, it is not a wide spread problem.

Even if you find a boat with some amount of water intrusion, it may not be enough to prevent you from purchasing the boat.

“You could survey the areas for water intrusion with tapping and or moisture testing. Having said all that, they are rarely a deal breaker but should be taken into account. I don’t like them unattended, but bazillions of boats float around quite happily with them.”

What is the Resale Value on the Viking Yachts?

These boats sell well and for a high price on the pre-owned market. They sell quickly, and the resale price is often close to the original price.

Viking yacht sales are up over 50%, especially specific models. Viking 52, 54, and 56 models that were built between 2002 to 2008 are so popular that they are selling before they make it to the market.

Viking yachts that were built between 2000 to 2015 are also selling really well. So again, this is a strong market for used Vikings.

Not only do they have a high resale value, but Viking lasts a long time. Their fiberglass hull can last as long as 50 years, as long as you have taken great care of the boat.

Atlantic Marine Electronics is the other partner for Viking Yacht. They manufacture accessories such as entertainment, navigation, and communication systems.

These items can also be added to your yacht when you are ordering and customizing your next boat. For example, you may want to add an entertainment system, a multiple stations layout, and a single helm station package.

Viking's Game-Changing Fleet of Center Consoles

Since its inception in 2019, Valhalla Boatworks (VBW) has established itself as the world leader in semi-custom high-performance luxury center consoles. Created, owned and operated by the Viking Yacht Company, the legendary builder of the world’s finest sportfishing yachts, Valhalla Boatworks offers seven center consoles from 28 to 55 feet in its game-changing V Series.

Like the Viking fleet, the V-33, V-37, V-41, V-46 and V-55 deliver unmatched performance, engineering, comfort, quality and fishing capabilities. The V Series center consoles thrive as hard-core fishing boats, fun family sport cruisers or luxury yacht tenders. The V Series is the result of the cooperative effort of the Viking Design & Engineering team and Michael Peters Yacht Design (MPYD). The V Series utilizes MPYD’s patented Stepped-V Ventilated Tunnel running surface that reduces drag while increasing speed, stability and efficiency.

The design traits of Viking convertibles can be seen throughout these center consoles. Proud bows, gently sloping S-shaped sheers, double forward chines, helm pods, raised toe rails and mezzanine seating are some of the hallmarks. Viking engineering and mechanical prowess shine through, with customized Seakeeper installations that maintain storage or deck space and mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems designed and built to unprecedented levels. You’ll be hard pressed to find a center console with a higher level of fit and finish than a Valhalla.

The same resources of Viking’s vertically integrated company are at the disposal of Valhalla Boatworks owners, so standard and custom components and systems of each build such as hardtops, marlin or gap towers and electronics packages are being designed and installed in-house by our experienced shipwrights to guarantee turnkey delivery. Hardtop packages can be loaded with top-shelf components in flawless installations.

Valhalla Boatworks offers outboards from both Mercury and Yamaha in twin, triple or quad applications depending on the model. Viking Lifetime Warranty

Viking lifetime warranty: viking and valhalla cues.

Please save your original receipts as it must accompany any warranty claim.

In the unlikely event your Viking or Valhalla cue has a defect, you may contact the nearest authorized Viking dealer or Viking Cues, LLC directly at (800) 397-0122 for instructions. Your entire cue and a copy of the original receipt MUST accompany all warranty claims. The cue must be registered on our website within 60 days of purchase!

*Warranty effective 2004, F & G Series Cues and later are covered.

• Viking cues are meticulously handcrafted in the U.S.A. from the finest materials and subject to the strictest quality control standards to bring you the best cue in the industry.
• Viking cues are warranted to be free from material and manufacturing defects.
• Viking Cues, LLC warrants against warpage and all components of the cue for the life of the product, but excludes replaceable parts such as the tip, ferrule, finish, wrap, and bumper. Although not specifically limited, replacement of wear parts by unqualified service personnel may void warranty.
• This warranty applies to Viking cues purchased from an authorized Viking Retailer or distributor.
• The warranty applies to the original owner and is non-transferable.
• All Viking™ cues covered by this warranty will be repaired or replaced (with the same model or one of equal value) without charge.
• All Valhalla™ cues covered by this warranty will be repaired or replaced (with the same model or one of equal value, one time only) without charge.
• All claims are resolved at the discretion of Viking Cues, LLC.
• This warranty is void if your cue has after-market products or if it has been subject to mishandling, abuse, or modification/repairs not performed by Viking Cues.
• Viking does not warrant its cues against any damage caused by third parties.
• Cues built with joint changes and standard, available options are covered under this warranty.
• Any cue or shaft manufactured with non-standard options will not be covered
• Shafts under 11.75mm are not covered .
• Unless reported within the first 30 days after purchase, shipment of product to Viking Cues for warranty consideration is the responsibility of the purchaser. In the continental United States, return shipping charges are covered by Viking Cue®. For addresses outside of the continental United States, Viking will cover a portion of the return shipping charges.

• Cases and accessories are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 1 year unless otherwise specified by the original manufacturer .

Limited warranty - right of complaint

VIKING Yachting RescYou TM Liferafts manufactured by Viking Life-Saving Equipment A/S (“VIKING”)

Always, provided your VIKING Yachting RescYou TM liferaft was not purchased for commercial use, you have – as a consumer – a right of complaint if the liferaft proves to be non-conforming. Your right of complaint will apply for two (2) years from the delivery date.  

In addition, you have an extended right of complaint in respect of the fabric materials used in the liferaft. This right of complaint will apply for twelve (12) years from the manufacturing date of the liferaft.

Your right of complaint is always subject to the liferaft being correctly installed, used, maintained and serviced pursuant to the instructions for use .

Your right of complaint will not apply in the event of any non-conformity or damage arising out of (i) inflating the liferaft during ordinary use; (ii) the tearing apart, decomposition or breaking down of the liferaft; or (iii) any modification, maintenance and/or service performed by a person not authorized by VIKING. Nor will your right of complaint apply in the event of (i) any non-conformity or damage caused by you or a third party, (ii) any non-conformity or damage resulting from heat, ultraviolet light, chemicals or oil products, or (iii) any non-conformity or damage resulting from incorrect maintenance, use or storage.

You must notify VIKING as soon as possible and in any event no later than two (2) months after the discovery of a non-conformity, by contacting VIKING at the address and/or email address specified below. Your notice must include a thorough description (preferably with photos) of the non-conformity as well as documentation of your purchase of the liferaft, in the form of a receipt or invoice evidencing the date of purchase.

At VIKING’s option, you must either transport the liferaft to a service workshop designated by VIKING or place it at VIKING’s disposal for inspection at another location. If the non-conformity is covered by your right of complaint, VIKING will reimburse your transportation costs. However, in the event that the liferaft turns out to be conforming, you must pay VIKING’s costs or a reasonable fee for the inspection.

If VIKING ascertains that the non-conformity is covered by your right of complaint, VIKING will at its own account either rectify the non-conformity or deliver a replacement liferaft. Any non-conforming liferaft that is replaced by VIKING will become VIKING’s property. In the event that the non-conformity cannot be recti­fied, or if the liferaft cannot be replaced, without unreasonable costs for VIKING, you will instead be entitled to a proportionate reduction of the purchase price equivalent to the reduction of the value of the liferaft. If VIKING rectifies or replaces the liferaft or provides a proportionate reduction of the purchase price of the liferaft within a reasonable period of time, you will not be entitled to any damages or other compensation nor will you be entitled to terminate the contract of purchase.

If the non-conformity is only covered by the twelve- (12) year right of complaint in respect of the fabric mate­rials, and VIKING rectifies the non-conformity or delivers a replacement liferaft, a new twelve- (12) year right of complaint period will not apply.

This limited warranty and right of complaint does not restrict or otherwise limit any rights that you may have pursuant to mandatory law.
