The Cruising Yacht Club of WA exceed our expectations for the wedding reception. I was a bit nervous about the food as I heard mixed reviews, but the food was outstanding. We had a buffet. All our guest at our wedding raved about how good the food was & some of our friends are chefs. I can’t wait to have many more events here. With all the fairy lights the place really does come alive. The thing I didn’t like is we had to pay a fee to set up the day before in the space. Which I personally think it was a bit harsh to make someone pay that fee to set up the day before if the room is empty/ not being used. The staff who worked at our wedding reception where so friendly & lovely. We wanted to be friends with them all. Thanks for making our day so special. - Hayley McDonald

The Cruising Yacht Club of WA Inc. is a private club for the use and enjoyment by its members and guests. Situated south of Perth on the shore of Cockburn Sound, the club enjoys a mild climate and protected waters ideal for the enjoyment of the sea.

The Club offers excellent restaurant and function facilities, along with fully licenced bar at the clubhouse, situated on the waterfront strip of Rockingham, moorings, and a hardstand area available at Point Peron.

A strong Junior Sailing program is active with solid representation in National and State championships.

TCYC is dedicated to providing a friendly family atmosphere as well as providing a healthy competition for keel boat and dinghy sailors at all levels.

Goals and Objectives

• - Develop and implement a fully integrated Race Management System and support Team Support the continued development of junior sailing
• - Develop and support the growth and expansion of senior sailing
• - Encourage the study of sailing, seamanship, pilotage, navigation and ship’s maintenance
• - Provide a safe and secure parking facility for members vessels
• - Develop and support the growth and expansion of rescue and support power boats in support of sailing
• - Develop Business Plans and implement improved business systems to support the executive and administration functions of the club.

Burgee Function Room

The Cruising Yacht Club of Western Australia has it’s clubhouse situated in the fashionable waterfront strip of Rockingham. Upstairs, with a sweeping panorama of Cockburn Sound and it’s surrounds, is the Burgee Room. With seating for 180 guests and including a wooden dance floor the Burgee Room is the ideal venue for your next event. Change of the Watch at The Cruising Club of America

John “Jay” Gowell and Chace Anderson elected Commodore and Vice-Commodore of 102-year-old sailing club

New York (April 29, 2024) —The Cruising Club of America (CCA) installed new flag officers and governors at its annual meeting in March. John “Jay” Gowell, of Jamestown, R.I., took the helm as Commodore of the Club, succeeding Chris Otorowski, of Seattle. A. Chace Anderson, of Vero Beach, Florida, and Cleveland, Ohio, was elected to take Gowell’s place as Vice Commodore. Well-known for awarding its prestigious Blue Water Medal and staging the biennial Newport Bermuda Race with the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, the CCA surprises many because it has no physical clubhouse and is organized into 11 stations in the U.S., Canada, and Bermuda. It was founded in 1922 for active offshore sailors who have demonstrated their capabilities in command of offshore sailing vessels on ocean voyages of significant duration. As incoming Commodore, Gowell reminded members in a recent letter, “More than any other club, the members of the CCA are what make the Club special; we are about people, the boats we sail, and the voyaging we do.”

Looking forward, Gowell and Anderson expect to focus on improving the world-class Newport Bermuda Race and on contributing to the larger community of offshore sailors. On June 21, 2024, the Bermuda Race will start for the first time inside Narragansett Bay adjacent to Fort Adams State Park, inviting the wider community to have a ringside seat on the action. Gowell also wrote to members that the Club leadership intends to provide members with “a range of quality experiences featuring knowledge, inspiration, friendships and fun,” and also to seek out and welcome qualified sailors as new members. As it normally does, the Club has drawn its new leaders from across the U.S., Canada, and Bermuda. Gowell is from Rhode Island and Anderson is from Florida and Ohio. Newly elected Secretary Pat Montgomery is from Coconut Grove, Florida, Treasurer Kathleen O’Donnell is from Milton, Massachusetts, Historian Doug Adkins is from Orcas, Washington, and the three new members of the CCA Board of Governors are Catherine Reppert, of Westport, Massachusetts, Sally Honey, of Palo Alto, California, and Bernard Prevost, of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
