There are superyachts and there are mega superyachts and one of the largest and most expensive in the world is currently cruising off Mallorca near Puerto Andratx at the feet of the Tramuntana mountains.

Golden Odyssey is owned by Saudi Arabia’s Prince Khaled bin Sultan bin Abdul Azziz . Founder of the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation, the prince owns several luxury vessels - dubbed the “Golden Fleet” - used for both recreation and scientific research.

Golden Odyssey is a motor yacht with an overall length of 123.2 m. The yacht’s builder is Lürssen Yachts from Germany, who launched Golden Odyssey in 2015. The superyacht has a beam of 20 m, a draught of 5.1 m and a volume of 7,690 GT.

No images of its supposedly-lavish interiors are available to this day , and very little is known about its amenities. It allegedly boasts 16 staterooms for up to 32 guests, plus accommodation for at least 50 crew. It comes with premium wellness facilities, including a beach club , a spa, and a beauty salon, and it’s supposedly fitted with powerful diesel-electric Wartsila engines for a cruising speed of 11 knots (12.5 mph/20 kph).

She is currently the 36th-largest yacht in the world and was the most expensive one sold in 2022. Prince Khalid is the oldest son of Prince Sultan and full brother of Fahd bin Sultan, Faisal bin Sultan and Turki bin Sultan. Their mother is Munira bint Abdulaziz bin Musaed bin Jiluwi who died in Paris on 24 August 2011. Moneera bint Abdulaziz was a sister of Alanoud, spouse of King Fahd. She was also cousin of King Khalid and Prince Muhammed.

Khalid bin Sultan is a graduate of King Saud University. He attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst from January 1967, where he was a corporal in the cadet government, and graduated in 1968. He also studied at the US Army’s Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. He graduated from the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama. He also holds a master’s degree in political science which he received from Auburn University at Montgomery in 1980.

Vor Palma de Mallorca ist eine Luxusyacht aufgetaucht, die der saudischen Königsfamilie gehört. Die "Golden Odyssey" ankerte vor dem Meeresvorort Can Pastilla. Das 124 Meter lange und 20 Meter breite Schiff, das 39 Stundenkilometer erreichen kann, war im Jahr 2015 auf der Lürssen-Werft in Deutschland fertiggestellt worden.

Auf der Yacht können 32 Gäste unterkommen, 50 Besatzungsmitglieder schieben dort Dienst. Die "Golden Odyssey" verfügt über fünf Decks in Pyramidenform. Auch andere Yachten des saudischen Königshauses hatten in den vergangenen Jahren in Palma angelegt. In Erinnerung ist noch das 147 Meter lange Flaggschiff, die "Prince Abdulaziz", die im Club de Mar festmachte.

Ebenfalls vor Mallorca kreuzt derzeit die 90 Meter lange Luxusyacht "Phoenix 2". Diese gehört dem wohl reichsten Mann Polens, Sebastian Kulczyk , dem Sohn des verstorbenen Geschäftsmanns Jan Kulczyk . Die Familie ist mit dem Betrieb von Internetcafés in jenem Land in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten reich geworden.

Auch Yachten anderer Königshäuser der arabischen Halbinsel waren immer mal vor Mallorca gesichtet worden: Dazu zählten Schiffe aus Oman, Bahrein, den Arabischen Emiraten und Katar. Viele Insulaner erinnern sich noch an Schiffe wie die "Al Mirqab", "Yas" oder "Lady Moura". Der Sommer ist traditionell die Jahreszeit, während der viele Luxusyachten vor der Insel kreuzen.

Zuletzt war die Luxusyacht des US-Medientycoons Barry Diller vor Mallorca aufgetaucht. Es handelte sich um die "Eos", die über drei Masten und eine Besatzung von 21 Mitarbeitern verfügt. Diller ist Gründer der "Fox Broadcasting Company" und gilt als Vorbild für die aus den allseits bekannten Simpsons-Zeichentrick-Filmen bekannte Figur Mr. Burns.

123m Golden Odyssey sold at auction following arrest

Deutsche bank luxembourg arrested the yacht in malta due to outstanding debt in excess of €116 million….

The 123m Lürssen superyacht ‘Golden Odyssey'   has been sold at auction for an estimated €150 million in Malta. Deutsche Bank Luxembourg arrested the superyacht while it was moored in the Med as a way to enforce the mortgage against it for outstanding debt in excess of €116 million.

According to Times of Malta , the owner, Kal Marine Limited (A Bermuda-based company), originally secured a loan from the bank in 2013, and used the superyacht as collateral. After failing to make repayments and choosing to ignore calls, the bank decided to seize the yacht.

The article also highlights that Mr Justice Spiteri Bailey approved the private sale of the superyacht for the sum of €150 million - which was deemed to be the current market value. The yacht has apparently been bought by East Thrive Peace Limited, a company which is incorporated in the British Virgin Islands and will be represented in Malta by lawyer Nicholas Valenzia.

It is believed that this could be one of the highest prices ever fetched for a superyacht sold in a judicial sale ever. The Golden Odyssey is ranked as the world’s 36th-largest superyacht and was launched by German shipbuilders Lürssen in 2015.

In 2016, SuperyachtNews reported that the 123m Golden Odyssey is part of The Golden Fleet which also comprises of its support vessel, 67m M/Y Golden Shadow and 30m M/Y Golden Osprey. This fleet was used as a platform for the Living Oceans Foundation, which was founded by Prince Khaled bin Sultan. In 2012, the Prince was awarded the Perseus Award for his commitment to ocean conservation and scientific research.

In 2018, Captain Mike Hitch, the marine director for the Golden Fleet and Captain of M/Y Golden Odyssey, spoke to SuperyachtNews about the organisation and the role of crew in environmental initiatives.

“Golden Odyssey”: the 123-metre long superyacht spotted in Cala di Volpe

Sighted in Sardinia "Golden Odyssey", superyacht 123 meters long. It was moored in recent days in Costa Smeralda, off Cala di Volpe, Liscia di Vacca and Pevero, from where it set sail for Palma de Mallorca . It belongs to a Chinese billionaire and is worth an estimated $150 million.

But it is not the only jewel of the sea in transit in Sardinia. According to Bloomberg, in fact, the island and the Costa Smeralda in particular are confirmed as a real "global district of luxury yachting".

A role also confirmed by the analyzes conducted by Cipnes Gallura on superyachts in May and June.

"There are more superyachts off the coast of Italy than anywhere else in the world," writes the New York-based company. Suffice it to say that, according to data analyzed by Bloomberg, IHS Markit and Genscape, there were as many as 259 superyachts along the Italian coasts last Friday 16 June. A record figure , even more than double the number recorded three months ago, when the "annual migration" of superyachts began, which from the USA and the Caribbean are increasingly choosing destinations in the Mediterranean.

The number of superyachts has, in fact, increased in almost all the countries bordering the Mediterranean: 235 yachts have been present in recent weeks in Greece, the second favorite destination after Italy, 217 in France, 150 in Spain and 94 in Turkey. While the number dropped to 159 in the United States.

With the Costa Smeralda, which – underline the same analyzes – precisely maintains the primacy of the most chosen location by the owners of superyachts for stopovers and holidays.

Measuring impressive 123,20 metres in length, yacht GOLDEN ODYSSEY is a striking mega yacht built by the renowned Lurssen shipyard as motor yacht Project Tatiana. GOLDEN ODYSSEY yacht was launched in March 2015 from Lurssen’s shipyard facility in Lemwerder in Germany and is presumably the successor of the yacht Golden Fleet.

Motor yacht GODLEN ODYSSEY known as project Tatiana, represents the Lurssen hull number 13689. Mega yacht GOLDEN ODYSSEY is said to have been designed by Martin Francis of Francis Design with interior design by Alberto Pinto. She is a displacement superyacht of about 7,600 tonnes, featuring a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure.

GOLDEN ODYSSEY yacht (Project Tatiana) is due to be delivered in 2015 and presumably before the summer cruising season. There is very little information known about Golden Odyssey yacht as she is being held under tight confidentiality by Lurssen shipyard and her designers.
