KELEA is a gorgeous 1994 Privilege 65 catamaran designed by the renowned naval architect Marc Lombard and built by Alliaura Marine in France. She was built to the very strict Bureau Veritas standards. She has always been operated and cared for by a professional captain and crew who have worked passionately for an owner who has paid careful attention to her care over the past few years.

At the beginning of her life, she was very successfully operated as a crewed charter vessel in the Caribbean. In 2012, her owner pulled her from the charter fleet and she underwent an extensive refit which brought her back to "Bristol Condition". She was then operated as a private yacht until 2017 when she resumed crewed charter operation. As luck would have it, she was located in Grenada during the devastating 2017 hurricane season and has never suffered any hurricane damage. She still shows in great condition and would be ideal for global voyaging or she can continue to operate in luxury crewed charter. Since she is operating in crewed charter she must always remain in perfect working order. A yachts reputation is everything in the charter business and Kelea has earned her exceptional standing.

Kelea is ideal for anyone who is looking for a superb boat to do world cruising with a large family or is exceptionally well suited as an expedition style adventure platform. The boat underwent a 10 month major interior refit in Lauderdale Marine Center, Ft Lauderdale in 2010/2011:

• The main salon windows were replaced with new, pre-formed, uv resistant, tinted acrylic windows. [ aircraft grade acrylic ]
• All 5 guest cabin heads and shower stalls were stripped back to the bare hull and rebuilt with gel coated fiberglass sheeting.
• The marine heads in the 5 guest cabins were replaced with Head Hunter toilets
• All sinks, hardware, plumbing, and lighting were replaced in the heads
• The vinyl head liners were replaced throughout the salon and the crew cabins.
• The air conditioning fan units were replaced in all 7 cabins.
• LED lighting was fitted to all cabins and areas.
• Large areas of wood paneling in the Master cabin and Salon were repaired or replaced.

Lauderdale Marine Center, April November 2012:

• Replaced both main engines, and both generators.
• The engine rooms were stripped back to the hull and remodeled.
• New paint and sound insulation.
• New fuel system and filters.
• Electrical wiring was remodeled and up graded.
• Dive Compressor was rebuilt by a factory agent.
• A new Mainsail and Genoa were fitted.

SPECIAL FEATURES

The two refit periods in Florida improved the boat hugely, but besides those, two other major upgrades were done that also improved the boat greatly are

Removed the original aluminum toe rails, stanchion bases and mooring cleats. These were all corroded, ugly, and under sized. They were replaced with aluminum toe rails with molded composite sections bonded to the hull. The goal was to make it look like the boat came from the factory like this. The mooring cleats and Stanchion bases were replaced with solid Stainless Steel units that are beautiful and hugely stronger than the originals.

Originally she had a fabric cockpit awning over a metal tube frame. The owner replaced this with a composite hard top, the unit was light enough for two people to pick up before it was installed, yet strong enough for 10 people to dance on (this was the design parameter set). They went to a lot of trouble to make the hardtop compliment the lines of the boat and make it look like it was factory fitted.

With the new hardtop, she gained a huge lounging area on top, and, with the side and aft curtains, a rain proof cockpit that can serve as a dining or lounging area in any weather.

SAILING HISTORY

The boat was brought to the Caribbean by the original owner to do charter. She was sold to the second owner in the early 2000’s and hecontinued doing approx 20 weeks of charter per year in the Caribbean. After about 5 years the owner took her out of charter in order to have time to do larger refit projects, and then he decided to keep her for private use and not return to charter.

In 2017, she was sold in an estate sale and purchased by the current owner. She went back to operating as a crewed charter catamaran based out of the Virgin Islands.

She has spent most of her life in the Eastern Caribbean, with a few years away for the Florida refits and two seasons in Belize and Panama.

I bought a yacht that I had never seen. I did this because I trusted my broker Andrew Holland. It was not an easy job for Andrew, as I am an experienced boat builder and owner of previous yachts, but work in West Africa. Imagine how hard it was to communicate what I was looking for. Andrew came up with exactly what I wanted. He dealt with time delays, all my questions at odd hours, and was there for the survey. He reported honestly and professionally. After buying the yacht, I arrived at the boat on a Sunday night, after dark, after travelling from West Africa to the Caribbean, and found it was better than expected. I expected to spend my one month leave working on the boat, but actually spent less than one week, and was able to spend 3 weeks sailing – wonderful bonus.

Privilège Catamarans were launched back in the eighties by Philippe Jeantot (twice world champion in single-handed sailing and founder of the Vendee Globe) and René Bernard through the Jeantot Marine Shipyard in Les Sables d’Olonne.

In 1996, the shipyard was sold to a new owner (La Groupe SGGR) and was renamed Alliaura Marine.

Privilege Marine Shipyard, controlled by Gilles Wagner became the new owners from 2012 until Hanse Yachts bought the Privilege brand, moulds and shipyard in 2017. In 2022, Hanse announced that they would be selling their shareholding.

Hanse have launched 3 designs: the Signature 510, the Signature 580 and the Signature 650. They continue to build the Series 740 (the flagship) from Privilege Marine days.

Marc Lombard got involved with the brand back in 1987 and has been heavily involved with the designs since that time.

Privilege are famous for producing high quality cruising catamarans: the focus is on quality rather than quantity. One of the key design features over the years has been the large owner’s suite located into the forward nacelle. As well as creating more living space, this structure provides buoyancy in heavy seas and stiffness to the whole structure. These strong cats ae known for their stability and seaworthiness.

The build quality and finishing of a Privilege is a step above the competition, and this is reflected in their strong resale values.

1985: Phillipe Jeantot starts Jeantot Marine, the Privilege 47 is launched 1987: Privilege 48 1988: Privilege 39 Launches 1992: Launch of the Privilege 482 1994: Privilege 51 1995: Launch of Privilege 37, 42 1995-6: Privilège 45 and 42 awarded ‘Boat of the Year’ in the US. 1996: the yard and brand was sold to Alliaura Marine. 1998: Privilege 465 1999: Privilege 435 2002: Privilege 585 2004: Privilege 395, 445, 495. The Privilège 745 flagship launches. 2007: Privilege 615, 515 2012: Gilles Wagner buys the brand and runs it as Privilège Marine 2016: Privilege 640, 740 2017: HanseYachts AG became the major shareholders 2020 Privilege Signature 510, 580 Launched 2022 Privilège Signature 650 announced. 2022 HanseYachts announce they will be selling their shareholding

As was the trend in those days, she had a pretty low bridgedeck.

11 years of production and more than 50 units sold.

Winner in the Cruising Multihull class of the Cruising World Boat Of The Year awards for 1996. Each hull has a forward watertight collision compartment with foam flotation and foam-filled crash bulkheads

Very stable, well built catamaran.

This Privilege 465 was designed by Marc Lombard and built at Sable d’Orlonne by Alliaura Marine who set new standards with this luxury cruising catamaran. Elevated helm station is on the port side with easy access to lines and winches.

24 Privilege 585s were produced from 2002 through to 2006, they are highly sought after in the second hand catamaran market. Pretty decent sailing performance and huge amounts of living space.

On Zatara is family of 6 from Texas who are sailing around the world.

The replacement for the 37.

The 465’s replacement, designed by Mac Lombard.

Launched in 2004, the 745 became the new flagship of the range. A big seaworthy flybridge cat.

The flybridge has a port-side helm, starboard seating, and big sun loungers.

The 615 sports a more muscular look than her predecessors.

In 2022, Privilege announced a new Marc Lombard design, the Signature 650 which fits in between the 740 and the 580. A luxury, seaworthy flybridge cat for ocean crossings.

In the world of cruising catamarans , the range Privilege has always been the benchmark for luxury , performance and equipment , to the point of being commonly referred to as " the Rolls Royce of the catamarans ." Sagittarius is one of the largest Privilege constructed , and in 2012 was subjected to a total refitting which covered every aspect of the boat : the sail plan ( now Spectra laminate in vacuum , with mainsail "square top" ) to electronics ( now sees installed the flagship range of Simrad and B & G ), passing through the hull , which now has repainted a beautiful and sunny blue sky . Inside, guests are four cabins large , all with double bed , desk and bathroom with separate shower , as well as , as appropriate , a further central cabin in the ship , even larger . The crew normally consists of Commander , Sailor and hostess (and possibly cook) , are reserved for the two twin cabins bow , which are completely independent , even at the level of inputs, the guest cabins. The

exceptional roominess, the great sailing performance ( under favorable conditions, will easily exceed 15 knots ) , the insurmountable airborne equipment, allow you to spend a holiday exploring the most exotic islands , coves of the most inaccessible areas of the seabed more uncontaminated by adding the pleasure of a navigation performance . And all without giving up the comforts of a five star hotel .
