What is a Gulet?

A Gulet is a traditional Turkish wooden sailing yacht that is designed explicitly for cruising along the beautiful Turkish coast. These vessels are known for their elegant design, spacious interiors, and comfortable accommodations. Gulets typically range in size from 15 to 40 meters and can accommodate anywhere from 6 to 20 passengers.

Gulets are built with a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern amenities, offering a perfect blend of authenticity and comfort. Each Gulet is unique in terms of design and layout. Still, they generally feature cosy cabins with en-suite bathrooms, a spacious deck for sunbathing and dining, and a fully equipped kitchen where the onboard chef prepares delicious meals.

The beauty of a gulet lies in its ability to provide an intimate and personalized cruising experience. Unlike larger cruise ships, gulets can access smaller and more secluded bays and coves, allowing passengers to explore hidden gems inaccessible to other vessels. With their friendly and experienced crew, gulets offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making you feel at home throughout your journey.

TURKEY GULET YACHT

A gulet is a classic wooden, motorized, and sailing boat that is perfect for long sea voyages and close-to-land cruises.

Traditional Turkish gulets are made-to-order boats that skilled artisans construct from wood. Because they provide a very comfortable cruising experience, gulets, often referred to as motor sailboats, are perfect for coastal excursions and lengthy sea cruises.

We are aware that the first gulet construction began in Turkey’s Bodrum region. However, production is also taking place in Bozburun, Marmaris, Fethiye, and Istanbul as a result of the expanding market and demand.

Types of Gulets

Gulet: The gulet is the most well-known traditional yacht design for Blue Cruise. The dining table and seating area are located at the back of the gulets.

There is typically a sofa and enough sun pillows out front for everyone. The entrance to the cabins is through this hall, which features a dining table according to the size of the gulet and an interior hall.

The yacht’s round stern causes the guest quarters to be in the front, while the aft side is typically used as the technical area. The ability to sail is marginally superior to that of Aynakic gulets.

The AFT parts of Aynakic gulets are not round, as they are in gulets, but rather are in a structure with raised corners, which is a key characteristic that sets them apart from ordinary gulets.

They typically use this space for the suite room, or what we would refer to as the “master cabin.” All other details are the same as for gulets, with the exception of this characteristic.

Tirhandil is the oldest local wooden boat type with a pointed stern and the best-suited wooden yacht for sailing. Today, the equipment has changed from sloop to lifeboat and from sail to sail; the majority of them are three-corner sails.

They do not construct them on particularly lengthy decks, often between 15 and 25 meters, like other kinds. The same standards apply to their cabins. If you like sailing, this is the best option.

Accommodation on Gulets

Traditional Turkish gulets have evolved in appearance over time. A modern gulet today resembles a high-end floating hotel and can be anywhere between 15 and 55 meters (50 and 180 feet) in length. Gulet length and passenger capacity are not inversely related.

A 20-meter gulet, for instance, might contain three guest cabins or six. The cabins must be smaller in order to accommodate additional cabins of the same size. But in general, taller gulets make up vessels with six or more multi-cabs.

Every cabin on gulets of different shapes and sizes was created with the needs of the passenger in mind, including a bed, wardrobe, separate shower, and toilet.

However, extra comfort amenities like sofa sets, dressers, work desks, and jacuzzis are also available, depending on the size of the rooms and the level of luxury of the boat. There are separate cabins for personnel in the guest cabins.

Gulet Passenger Safety

On gulets, the welfare of the passengers comes first. As a result, each gulet contains numerous fuel and clean water tanks. Additionally, it features a complete set of navigation and safety equipment, including life jackets, fire extinguishers, GSM phones, and VHF radios.

All of these safety precautions and modern technologies prevent any potential emergency and enhance your seaside vacation.

Types of Gulet Charters

Private yacht charter: When you charter a gulet, the entire vessel—along with its crew—is yours for the duration of the rental period. Within the parameters outlined in your rental agreement, you are free to take any route during the rental term.

And you are not restricted to any set timetable; you can plan your vacation however you like. You can purchase our ready-made menu packages and avoid sticking to a typically restricted menu, just as you can shop for your rations.

Renting a private gulet is the perfect choice if you want to spend a luxurious vacation at sea with your family or enjoy the sea and entertainment with close friends.

For a trip you won’t forget and wish to repeat, choose from traditional, classic, luxury, or ultra-luxury yacht charter options to suit your needs and experience.

Cabin rentals : On a shared tour, one or more cabins may be rented. The schedule for the route, lunch times, and meal components remain the same.

The purpose of in-cabin trips, which they typically arrange on classic gulets, is to experience the spirit and joy of the Blue Cruise rather than taking a vacation on a luxury yacht. Let’s say you can’t organize enough groups to rent a private gulet or you go over your budget.

Then, a cabin rental could provide you with a relaxing blue-tour vacation. Renting a cabin will help you make the most of your vacation by allowing you to cruise in style, widen your circle of friends, and meet new acquaintances on the boat.

LUXURY GULET YACHT CHARTER

Where else can you enjoy the peace and quiet of the Blue Sea, which has everything you need to make up for the weariness of the whole year? In the Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean, where there are “Blue Weeks” that never end and warm seas, you can have a great vacation.

During the day, you can walk between boats along the coast and stop in different bays. At night, you can stay in a very quiet bay where no one else is. Places like the blue coast of Turkey, the Greek islands, and the eastern shores of the Adriatic, Croatia, and Montenegro are also options.

For tourists looking for the sun, Turkey is very famous. Regular regional flights to international airports in southwest Turkey have made this place very easy to get to. A lot of people also visit places like Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye, Gocek, and Antalya during the long summer months. Each of these places is an area that can be part of the boat rental program.

Local tour operators, especially those from other parts of Europe, have a strong interest in the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea. The great thing about a gulet rental vacation is that you can visit some of these islands. Rhodes, Symi, and Kos all have ports that are close to the Turkish shore. These are great islands for people who want to see places in both areas. Between the Greek islands in the west and the many Greek islands in the north, you can mix and match a lot of different options.

Let’s say you have to choose between two routes that are very different. In that case, you can get more information about each area by getting in touch with us.

  • Delphiniums (Delphinium spp.): These majestic flowers with tall spikes come in vibrant shades of blue, purple, and white and require rich soil and staking for support.
  • Sedums (Sedum spp.): Drought-tolerant and low-maintenance, sedums are succulent perennials that offer clusters of colorful flowers and attract butterflies to the garden.
  • Columbine (Aquilegia spp.): These unique, bell-shaped flowers come in a variety of colors and thrive in well-drained soil with part shade, attracting hummingbirds.
  • Balloon Flower (Platycodon grandiflorus) : Grow these charming, balloon-like buds in full sun to part shade, and enjoy their blue, pink, or white star-shaped flowers.
  • Yarrow (Achillea spp.): Tolerant of poor soil and drought, yarrow blooms in various shades, including yellow, white, and pink, and attracts butterflies to the garden.
  • Catmint (Nepeta spp.): These fragrant, low-maintenance plants produce spikes of lavender-blue flowers, attracting pollinators and adding texture to the garden.
  • Hellebores (Helleborus spp.): These shade-loving perennials offer elegant, nodding blooms in late winter to early spring, available in an array of colors.
  • Russian Sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia): With its silvery foliage and lavender-blue flowers, Russian sage thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, attracting bees and butterflies.
  • Bleeding Heart (Dicentra spp.): These shade-loving plants produce delicate, heart-shaped flowers in pink or white, adding a touch of romance to the garden in spring.

These perennial flowers will add beauty, color, and variety to your Zone 3 garden, and by following their specific growing requirements, you can enjoy their blooms for years to come.

Tips for growing perennial flowers in zone 3

Growing perennial flowers in Zone 3 can be a rewarding endeavor, despite the challenges presented by the cold climate. Here are some tips to help you successfully cultivate perennial flowers in this region:

Choose Hardy Perennials: Select plant varieties that are specifically suited for Zone 3 conditions. Look for perennials that are known for their cold hardiness and can withstand freezing temperatures. Some popular options include Siberian iris, black-eyed Susan, yarrow, daylilies, and coneflowers.

Timing is Key: Pay attention to the timing of planting. It’s crucial to consider the length of your growing season and the average date of the last spring frost. Start seeds indoors or purchase young plants from local nurseries that are suitable for Zone 3. Aim to get them in the ground as soon as the soil can be worked in spring.

Soil Preparation: Before planting, prepare your soil by incorporating organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure. This helps improve soil fertility, drainage, and water retention. Adequate soil preparation promotes healthier root development and enhances the overall performance of your perennial flowers.

Mulching: Apply a layer of organic mulch, such as straw or wood chips, around your perennial plants. Mulching helps conserve soil moisture, regulate soil temperature, and reduce weed growth. In Zone 3, mulching is particularly important during winter to provide insulation and protect plant roots from freezing temperatures.

Watering: Water your perennial flowers deeply but less frequently. Ensure the soil is consistently moist during the growing season, but avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. Regularly monitor soil moisture levels, especially during hot and dry periods, and adjust watering accordingly.

Provide Sunlight: Most perennial flowers thrive in full sun. Choose planting locations that receive at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. Adequate sunlight promotes robust growth, vibrant blooms, and overall plant vigor.

Regular Maintenance: Regularly deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming and prevent self-seeding, which can be particularly important for perennial flowers that can become invasive. Additionally, divide overcrowded perennials every few years to maintain their health and vigor.

Winter Protection: In Zone 3, winter can be harsh, so providing protection for your perennial flowers is essential. After the ground freezes, apply a layer of mulch around the base of the plants to provide insulation and prevent frost heaving. Consider using burlap or protective coverings for more delicate or less hardy perennials.

By following these tips and selecting suitable perennial flowers for Zone 3, you can create a beautiful and thriving garden that brings joy and color throughout the growing season, even in colder climates.

10 Best Early Season Cut Flowers for Zone 3

If you garden in a short season like I do in Zone 3, early blooming cut flowers can be a huge struggle to grow. While it can be difficult for cold climate flower farmers to have something ready when people are hungriest for flowers, the ten flowers featured in this blog post allow me to have flowers ready for customers when other farmer florists in the area might not!

Anemones are a beautiful addition to early-season arrangements. I specifically love growing the Bianco Centro Nero variety of bright white anemones with a contrasting black centre.

3. cotoneaster.

I grew up calling this plant Birdberry and often use cuttings from this shrub in early-season arrangements. Its delicate white flowers and beautiful greenery are helpful when not much else is blooming in Zone 3!

4. Forget-Me-Nots

Forget-Me-Nots were new to my cut flower garden in 2022, and I hope they live up to their name and give me many volunteers in this year’s garden! Their brilliant blue is a striking addition to any bouquet, and they work brilliantly as filler flowers when not much else is in season.

flower 3 gulet

Also known as Love in a Mist, Nigella is a cool-loving flower that adds beautiful movement to any bouquet. This delicate flower is perfect to use immediately after harvesting, and you can also save the pods for interesting textures in arrangements afterwards. Nigella is low-maintenance and easy to direct sow after the snow melts!

flower 3 gulet

If you’re in a zone where you can plant a peony bush and you don’t have one, you need to plant one! Unfortunately, you won’t get blooms for about three years after planting, but these gorgeous flowers are worth waiting for! Peonies have been a staple in my cutting garden for years and are an old favourite. I love all peony varieties and include them in arrangements whenever I can!

flower 3 gulet

7. Queen Anne’s Lace

I grew Queen Anne’s Lace for the first time last year (in 2022) and loved it! It’s extremely cold tolerant, and because I started it beforehand, I could use it during those early months when not much else was available in my cutting garden. My Queen Anne’s lace was especially handy for early-season weddings to fill out my bouquets.

flower 3 gulet

8. Ranunculus

If you love roses and peonies, you’ll love ranunculus! We have a lot of pest pressure on ranunculus in Zone 3, where I live, but I’m hoping this year (2023) will be my year for a bountiful ranunculus crop!

flower 3 gulet

9. Rat Tail Statice

Rat tail statice blooms much earlier than other statice varieties and is a welcome texture for early-season bouquets. This underrated flower is really one of the only spike-type flowers that bloom early in the season, and I always make sure to have some growing in my cut-flower garden!

flower 3 gulet

10. Saponaria

Saponaria is extremely cold-tolerant and is perfect for early planting. After growing it last year (in 2022), I expect to have a lot more just from volunteers! This is also a great substitute for Baby’s Breath in bouquets.

Flower Arrangements Are Reaching New Heights

Floral designers are finding drama in tall, statuesque compositions.

“I have so much admiration for florists who can make haphazard, wild arrangements,” says Miguel Yatco, 30, the floral artist behind the Brooklyn-based studio Agos Muni . “But it’s different to how I approach things: I’m rigorous.” The compositions he produces for his fashion and design world clients — a column of billowy cream-and-orange poppies for the French fashion house Hermès ; a three-foot-high mass of deep purple hydrangeas and clematis for the New York design gallery Jacqueline Sullivan — are often so tall and tightly packed that they resemble inverted cumulonimbus clouds. “I love to create the feeling of the flower floating and defying gravity,” says the designer, who likes to begin with a vessel, often a silver pedestal bowl or oversize pewter julep cup, then adds blooms to double or triple its height.

If last summer saw the culmination of a trend for sprawling, low-lying floral landscapes, Yatco’s work represents an aesthetic about-face. Increasingly, arrangements seem more orderly than meadowlike, their precise structures clearly shaped by human hand and their blooms, whether lush and densely grouped or spare and few, visibly contained by vases. When the world outside feels turbulent, they seem to remind us, we tend to tighten our grip. But these works are also defined by their height, their long stems often extending above or through equally elongated vessels. In their ascent there is optimism: If there are constraints on all sides, then the only way is up.

In September, when the Italian fashion house Bottega Veneta opened its remodeled Paris store, its tables were topped with plumes of flowers that practically touched the ceiling. Their creator, the Brussels-based French floral artist Thierry Boutemy, 55, had drawn inspiration from the still lifes of heaping multicolor arrangements painted by the Flemish and Dutch masters around the time of tulip mania, when that flower’s popularity soared in early 17th-century Europe. Taking cues in particular from the vivid palette of “ A Still Life of Flowers in a Wan-Li Vase ” (circa 1609) by Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder, he conceived a series of vibrant vertical arrangements, each assembled from fat heads of purple-and-blue hydrangeas, speckled yellow lilies, wavy-stemmed yellow nerines and, finally, purple delphiniums and yellow eremurus. Compared to the bouffant-like silhouettes of Bosschaert’s assemblages, Boutemy’s were narrow, continuing the line of the cylindrical Venetian bubble-glass vases that held them. “Rigor and clarity are the most important things,” Boutemy says, and an elongated shape means “each flower remains visible and each gives strength to another.”

A row of five towering floral arrangements.

But upright arrangements needn’t be grandiose to be striking. The willowy single-stem and single-variety displays that the Connecticut-based ceramic artist Frances Palmer , 67, creates with the flowers she picks from her garden in warmer months — pairing them with her elegant pottery, often inspired by ancient Etruscan and Cycladic forms — are dramatically simple. “I like everyone to have their cameo,” she says of her approach, which might showcase a sword-shaped ‘Peter Pears’ apricot gladiolus in a narrow-necked blue celadon vase or a pair of velvety dark red ranunculus whose stalks stretch high above a small, urnlike vessel. Palmer generally leaves stems, especially the snaking ones of her garden’s poppies, long and exposed: “I think they’re equally important,” she says.

“It’s the way they sit, bend and twist in the vase,” says the London-based florist Christie Leigh , 35, whose minimalist style often channels the deliberate, restrained forms of ikebana, the traditional Japanese art of flower arranging. For a recent breakfast in London, she used silver dessert bowls to anchor spindly arrangements of chocolate cosmos, pink scabiosa, ranunculus and white anemone. “It was morning, so we wanted everything bright and breezy,” she says of her decision to display the blooms’ rangy naked stems at varying heights. To hold her flowers in place, Leigh often uses a kenzan , an ikebana tool that resembles a spiked metal plate, or narrow vessels that provide support. For the newly opened Italian restaurant Dalla in East London, she sourced silver candlestick-shaped vases attributed to the Viennese designer Carl Auböck, furnishing each with a single, barely trimmed stem of white ‘Butterfly’ ranunculus.

The London-based florists Iona Mathieson, 30, and Romy St. Clair, 33, of the studio Sage Flowers , also create distinctive vertical arrangements, but with an emphasis on unexpected juxtapositions of color and scale. A recent asymmetrical composition featured a low cluster of pale mauve lisianthus on one side and, on the other, an explosion of blush dahlias, several of them kept exaggeratedly tall, shooting skyward like fireworks. “You’re not trying to mimic how things look in nature,” St. Clair says. And yet the delicate outstretched stems of these towering arrangements highlight perhaps the most beautiful thing about flowers: their ephemerality.

Saying It With Flowers

With their countless applications and natural beauty, flowers can fill your days with color and wonder..

Hibiscus blossoms are as dazzling as they are ephemeral. In an age of shortened attention spans, they are having a resurgence .

Once considered fusty and unfashionable, corsages and other floral adornments are enjoying a renaissance .

Michael Crawford beat state Rep. Mary Flowers, the longest-serving Black lawmaker in Illinois, to win the Democratic primary for the Illinois House 31st District on Tuesday after party leadership and unions threw their support behind him.

With almost 80% of votes counted, Crawford beat Flowers, 69% to 31%, in a district that extends across the South Side and into the southwest suburbs, according to AP estimates.

Newcomer Crawford, 41, had the backing of Illinois House Speaker Chris Welch. In an unusual move that was a test of his own political muscle, Welch threw his support and money behind Crawford in the primary and helped him defeat an incumbent politician who first took office when Harold Washington was mayor of Chicago.

The race became a proxy for Welch’s power to control his own members. Welch and Democratic-supporting unions backed Crawford, raising a whopping $1.7 million. That’s more than Flowers raised in total over the last 30 years.

“I don’t think Crawford is the important part here," said Brian Gaines, the Arrington professor in state politics at the University of Illinois. "He’s the device. It’s really about Flowers.”

The state Democratic establishment, however, failed in another race trying to fend off challenger Graciela Guzmán in the North Side 20th Senate District.

Despite being badly outspent, Guzmán defeated state Sen. Natalie Toro, who was appointed by a political committee last year. In that primary race, Illinois Senate President Don Harmon and the Democrats, with help from unions, funded Toro with an eye-popping $2.6 million, four times the amount of money Guzman raised.

Flowers, 72, fell out of favor with Welch, who removed her from Democratic leadership last year. In a letter to Flowers last May, Welch accused the longtime legislator of “abusive behavior,” including comparing “the appearance of a staff member to Adolf Hitler.”

Flowers has been the state representative for either the 31st or the South Side 21st District since 1985.

“I did not lose. Our democracy lost, when you take into consideration all they had to do to destroy me,” Flowers said after the election was called for her opponent.

Referring to the large amount of money put into the race, she added: “Can you imagine all we could have done in the Auburn Gresham area with that money?”

State Rep. Mary Flowers votes Tuesday afternoon at Thurgood Marshall Library in Auburn Gresham.

In his victory speech, Crawford said he hoped his win would not be remembered only as him taking down a longtime incumbent.

"I hope that the headline is that we got one step closer to providing full funding for our public schools," he told supporters on the South Side, "supporting women's rights, supporting workers and addressing the epidemic of violence in our community.”

That's not how one Flowers supporter saw it.

Ella Echols, 76, a longtime Auburn Gresham resident and Flowers supporter, questioned what Crawford will do for her community.

“What has he contributed to the community?” she asked. “Before this, no one had heard of Michael Crawford.”

Echols was particularly turned off by negative ads from Crawford's campaign.

“Among all the adverse stuff going on here, some women, some people would have folded. But she’s a strong Black woman," Echols said, referring to Flowers.

Guzmán overcomes funding deficit

With almost 90% of the vote counted, Guzmán was declared the winner over Toro, defeating her with almost 50% of the vote to Toro’s 30%. Guzmán won despite raising less than $658,000, or about a quarter of the amount of money raised for Toro.

“You can’t buy this district,” Guzmán told supporters after her win. “I’m grateful to the community that asked me to step up and believed in me and supported me.”

Toro, 36, replaced Cristina Pacione-Zayas, who left to join then-newly elected Mayor Brandon Johnson as one of his top advisers.

Guzmán, 35, was previously chief of staff to Pacione-Zayas and was in the running for the Senate appointment.

Incumbent Sonya Harper was challenged in the 6th House District, representing the South Side, by Joseph G. Williams, but she won easily with almost 74% of the vote.

Williams co-founded the community organization Grow Greater Englewood.

In the 36th House District, representing mostly south uburbs, Rick Ryan defeated Sonia Khalil 57% to 43%. The two candidates competed to replace state Rep. Kelly Burke, who decided not to run for reelection.

Overview [ ]

Flowers are part of the Alchemist quest. There are 3 flowers in total: blue, red, and yellow.

Note: You cannot store these Flowers in your backpack/inventory .

Blue Flower Spawns [ ]

Note: Blue Flower only spawns during the night and it will despawn during the day.

Red Flower Spawns [ ]

Note: Red Flower spawns during the day, and does not despawn until someone picks it up.

Yellow Flower Acquisition [ ]

Kill any NPC with a random drop rate. It is recommended to kill the Swan Pirates, because they have low health, low damage, and they are close together.

  • How to evolve a race to V2 video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6But8KHIQ0U
  • Blue flower will only spawn at night, and will despawn when it's day. However, red flower will not despawn until someone picks it up.
  • Both blue AND red flowers can spawn twice a day or night, but this is rare.
  • If you die with a flower you will lose it so its recommended to have PVP off while doing the quest or to use a private server.
  • Killing a lot of Swan Pirates is a good way to grind for yellow flower.
  • Destroying the Factory Core counts as an enemy, so you can get the yellow flower from that.
  • You won't be able pick up the flowers unless you get the quest from Alchemist .
  • Be careful for Bounty Hunters, as your flowers will be lost once dying.
  • If you leave the server you will lose the flowers as well.
  • Getting v2 race is required to get v3 and v4 race.
  • If a flower doesn't spawn after 2 day-night cycles, join a new server.
  • It's a great idea to start quests while grinding NPCS for extra money and EXP. I recommend grinding NPCS around 30 levels under you with an Elemental fruit. Make sure you don't grind an NPC with Aura .

Cherry blossoms are probably within 3 to 5 days of peak bloom

The blossom buds reached stage 5 of 6 friday and could hit one of their earliest peak blooms on record to start next week.

flower 3 gulet

The famed cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin in Washington are one stage from peak bloom after a spell of unseasonably warm weather. The National Park Service announced Friday that the buds reached Stage 5 out of 6, known as “puffy white.” This matches the earliest date the buds have reached this stage in at least two decades.

On average, the blossoms reach peak bloom with 3 to 5 days of Stage 5 — so it’s probable it will occur between Monday and Wednesday. If peak bloom occurs on Monday or Tuesday, March 18 or 19, it will rank as the third earliest on record.

Even though the blossoms are a step away from peak this weekend, it will be a great time to catch an early look and the start of a one-to-two-week stretch when you can take in the flowery scenes.

“The blossoms are out, now we’re just waiting on them to open,” the Park Service wrote on X .

What to know about D.C.’s cherry blossoms

flower 3 gulet

The blossom buds cruised through the first five stages of bloom with unusual haste. They reached their first stage, when green buds emerged, on March 2. In less than two weeks, they’ve progressed to the penultimate stage — faster than all but one year in the last two decades; in 2010, the buds sped from Stage 1 to 5 in just 12 days (March 14 to 26).

Exceptionally warm weather in late February and early March have fueled this year’s swift bloom process. The average temperature in March is running 8.5 degrees above normal — in large part because of four days with highs in the 70s this week. Significantly, nights have remained above freezing since Feb. 26.

Temperatures will begin to cool this weekend, with highs in the 60s, but sunny skies should help blossoms open up.

Early next week, it will turn even colder, with highs only from 50 to 55 but that probably won’t be enough to stop the blossoms peaking around that time. Temperatures could drop to near freezing Monday and Tuesday nights but it would require a hard freeze — with temperatures in the 20s for several hours — to damage the blossoms.

Here’s how we would break down the likelihood of different peak bloom dates based on the forecast:

  • Sunday (March 17): 15 percent (would tie as second earliest on record)
  • Monday (March 18): 25 percent (would rank as third earliest)
  • Tuesday (March 19): 25 percent (would rank as third earliest)
  • Wednesday (March 20): 20 percent (would tie as third earliest)
  • Thursday (March 21): 10 percent (would tie as fourth earliest)
  • Next Friday (March 22) or later: 5 percent

The blossoms seemed poised to peak on the early side of projections. The Capital Weather Gang forecast peak bloom between March 19 and 23 while the Park Service predicted March 23 to 26.

Peak bloom is defined as when 70 percent of the cherry trees’ buds are flowering. Once flowering occurs, the blossoms can remain on the cherry trees for another week or so if it’s warm and winds are light. But in some years, petals fall off more rapidly because of wind and rain or if they wilt from freezing temperatures.

The likelihood of another early bloom fits into recent trends fueled by human-caused climate change. The average peak has advanced about six days over the past century, from April 4 to March 30. Each of the past four years has seen peak bloom before March 29. Last year, peak bloom was on March 23 — more than a week early.
