ghost notes
Is it possible to enter ghost notes for another instrument? I am working on a transcription of the 1964 version of Line for Lyons with the Mulligan and Brookmeyer parts. it would be a big help if I could see what the baritone is playing so I come in at the right spot on trombone after long rests.

Ghost Notes bliblong • Oct 23, 2009 - 20:19 Hello, I'm an amateur bassist who is currently transcribing a number of jazz & R&B standards, and am taking considerable care to be as authentic as possible. Many of the great early R&B and jazz bassists performed a variety of percussive "ghost notes" by "raking" muted or partially-muted strings.
• Oct 31, 2020 - 15:42 Hi, how can I make a particular note of my transcription sound like a "ghost" note? I'm a bass player an I would like to listen to my transcription, when in play mode, and hear a "stopped" sound on some particular notes that I inserted with a "cross" head.
• Feb 1, 2011 - 20:09 I am having trouble creating ghost notes in drum notation, I have done a search and one of the answers was to double click the X in the noteheads palette, but this doesn't seem to work. There was also a method of dragging the X on to the selected note this also doesn't seem to work..

I've looked under noteheads but I can't figure out the process. Reply I'd like to replace noteheads with "x" marks as in the screenshot provided.
• Jul 21, 2018 - 23:17 I think you guys did a great job with the new MDL extension! the only thing I really mis is a ghost note sound/note. I really want to hear the dynamic changes between a normal snare hit, a rimshot and a ghost note when I'm listening to the final result of my transcriptions.

Ghost notes (bass) lstelie • Sep 26, 2017 - 07:50 Hello, I don't know if this exist for other instruments, but with a bass a ghost note is a note that you play while muting the string with the left hand, in order to get a percussive attack but no real pitch usually just before the real note to emphasize it.

Uploaded on Apr 21, 2018 It took me way too long but I fineally found a way to make ghost notes sound almost exactly like I want them to. Musescore should really add an easy/standard way too do this. A ghost note is generally a percussive effect, so a half-note doesn't really make sense. Could you describe what you're going for musically? There may be another more standard way to express it. - Aaron Jan 26, 2021 at 6:00 I think you won't be able to reply to the comment, but you can edit your post to include the musical context. - Aaron
brettvachon. • Jan 28, 2015 - 23:49. Hi, how do I write ghost notes in the guitar TAB? I'm able to write ghost notes in the regular five line staff, but when I copy the notes over to the guitar TAB, they appear as regular notes and not as an X. Reply.

Illustration of dead note in musical notation and guitar tablature. In music, notably in jazz, a ghost note (or a dead, muted, silenced or false note) is a musical note with a rhythmic value, but no discernible pitch when played. In musical notation, this is represented by an "X" for a note head instead of an oval, or parentheses around the note head. It should not be confused with the X ...
A ghost note is created by selecting a fret mark and pressing ( (i.e. Shift + 9 ), which applies parentheses to it (but as an actual part of the string, i.e. " (2)", not by adding the parenthesis symbols from the music font); the linked note should also have parentheses applied (from the music font; their placement is not good just now but that ...
According to this answer, the following parenthesis designate an optional note: The answer currently has 20 upvotes, while another answer claiming it is a ghost note has -1. Seems pretty definitive, but then Wikipedia gives the following example of ghost notes: More specifically, I'm just interested in the following case for piano, from Alan ...
MuseScore doesn't have ghost note playback. Remember, MuseScore is notation software, not playback software. However, you can imitate ghost notes by using staff text to switch to the palm mute patch, and applying a staccatossimo to the ghost notes. You can just turn the staff text and articulations invisible to prevent them from cluttering ...

Ghost notes are meant to be played softly. If you see a ghost note on your sheet music, it means the composer or arranger wants you to play the drum beat softer than you normally would. Pay special attention to hand technique. Proper performance of ghost drum beats involves hand control. Keep a low stick height over the drum head to control ...
