Time Lapse Sunrise at Inlet Watch – Danny Wood

Our own Danny Wood has created an incredible time-lapse video of the sunrise at Inlet Watch.  Once he sent me a link to the video I asked if he would mind if we posted a link to it on our website.  Inlet Watch can be a very busy place and sometimes we forget to stop and look at the beauty all around us.  I think Danny’s video certainly pulls things back into perspective and allows us to appreciate all that we have here!  To see this video, please click on the following YouTube link: Danny Wood’s Video

Before & After Pictures of Inlet Watch – The Start of It All

Recently we had a visit from Mr. Phillip Burns, one of the two men who started what is now Inlet Watch Yacht Club.  The first pictures are before construction even began in 1974; the others are pictures after the side basin was created in 1984.  We thought everyone would enjoy the feeling of nostalgia!

Carolina Yacht Club

Is at the heart of CYC

Since our charter in 1853, it has been the mission of CYC to promote sailing, camaraderie, and fellowship on the water. From lifelong friends taking out a newcomer to a child on the front of their mom's Sunfish, there are many ways to get involved. CYC offers competitive racing for every age and skill level. We have events in the ocean and sound, so there is something for the whole family! The wind will lure you to the water with a sea breeze that kicks almost every afternoon.

Our competitive sailors are all about the points and the silver. You’ll find serious sailors representing all club fleets racing in our sound and ocean events. While racing is most active during the summer, we have competitive events every month of the year. We proudly host regional, national, and international regattas here at CYC.

It's not always about speed. Grab your gang and soak in a beautiful sunset as part of our 'Sip N Sail' sessions, or take your own boat around Bird Island for a full moon sail. It's hard to beat cruising down to Masonboro for a picnic and a swim. Cruising is all about taking it slow and enjoying the ride, not rounding the marks. Everyone is welcome to cruise!

Race Committee

It takes a lot of volunteers to pull off safe, fun, and professional sailing events. Our fantastic race committee volunteers make it possible. Important roles exist both on-shore and on the course. Interested in helping out but unsure where to start? We offer training for new race committee members. Volunteers can give a couple of hours or snag a front-row seat to racing action.

Sailing Calendar

Adult sailing.

Our adult sailing classes cover the basics of sailing and we offer advanced sailing for those interested in joining our larger boat fleets.

Junior Sailing

The CYC junior sailing program and summer camps serve ages 5 - 18 and are open to the public. Our summer programs focus on sailing, safety and fun!

Sail Lessons

Our US Sailing-certified instructors offer private lessons to all ages and skill levels. Lessons are hands-on with more time spent on the water than shore.

New to the area? These Wilmington-area clubs are here to welcome you

yacht clubs wilmington nc

As more people continue to move to the Wilmington area, a number of newcomer clubs have surfaced. How do they welcome people and how do they help them adjust?

The StarNews recently interviewed Marla Montemarano, publicity director for the North Brunswick Newcomers Club , about how her club works.

Who is considered a newcomer?

For the club purposes, Montemarano said "a newcomer is anyone who enjoys meeting new people and sharing new experiences." There are many members who are new to the North Brunswick area as well as those who have lived here for many years, but never got out to visit the sites within the community or Wilmington.

How does the club help?

The social club meets the second Friday of each month from September through June. It helps offering various activities in and around the Wilmington area. These activities may be a volunteering opportunity or visiting the various museums such as the Wilmington Railroad Museum or Cameron Art Museum. For "foodies," the club visits many restaurants that the Wilmington area has to offer. A person might also enjoy attending shows or athletic events that is planned by the club's activities team.

Why did they join the club?

Cheryl Sullivan and her husband, John, moved from Bethpage, New York, and joined the North Brunswick Newcomers Club in November 2022 when they moved to Leland.

"We had heard fabulous things about the club and how you meet new friends and get acquainted with the area," Sullivan said. "We have met wonderful new friends at the club."

Sullivan says there are speakers from an array of organizations, such as the Latimer House, Novant Health system and Cape Fear Honor Flight, who provide her with invaluable knowledge of the surrounding area.

There are also activities, tours and lunches posted on the club's website where people can sign up.

"Each time we attend we meet more like-minded retirees," Sullivan said.

For membership, contact Deb Mansir at Nbnewcomers.org.
