One of the largest showboats ever built, the grand General Jackson Showboat is an elegant triumph of American ingenuity. With its elegant lacy filigree and stately design, the boat is reminiscent of the opulence of the American Victorian era.

Showboats have long been a colorful part of our nation’s history, and this most unique Nashville attraction epitomizes the grace and grandeur of the Old South.

The General Jackson Showboat is named after the first steamboat to operate on the Cumberland River in 1817 which was named after President Andrew Jackson, whose historic home—The Hermitage—is 15 minutes from the dock.

Built by the largest inland shipbuilder in the United States, Jeffboat, located in Indiana, the General Jackson was launched on the Cumberland River on April 20, 1985.

It’s a great way to get off Broadway and still have some good ‘ole Nashville fun!!! Seriously so much fun! Beautiful views, awesome crew, clean bathroom and great music.

My bridesmaids surprised me with the boat cruise for my Nashbach! It was the best time ever! Highly recommend this event for any group looking to spend an evening partying on the river!

Went on the pontoon saloon for my bachelorette party. We had a blast!! There were multiple parties with us and we all danced together. At one point we were playing limbo with a broomstick. I do recommend getting there earlier to secure a good spot on the boat. Plus, having the bathroom on board made life so much easier.

We had a team meeting (12 people) in Nashville and took an evening cruise on the pontoon saloon. It was the perfect choice for a group activity as they had dinner and beer as we cruised the Cumberland River. Awesome views of the Nashville skyline!! Andrew was great!

Pontoon Saloon was a great experience! The owner and staff are super cool, the boat was clean and roomy! It was a beautiful day on the Cumberland River even in November! We had a big group, so did the private tour! Highly recommend!

Riley strain's death appears accidental after preliminary autopsy, riley strain death reportedly appears accidental ... after preliminary autopsy, 2.4k 3/24/2024 3:20 pm pt.

Riley Strain 's tragic death appears accidental with no foul play suspected at this time after a preliminary autopsy ... according to a new report citing local police.

On Saturday, the Metro Nashville Police Department reportedly confirmed to WKRN News 2 that the preliminary autopsy on Riley has been completed, and the death continues to appear accidental.

This seemingly supports the police's initial conclusions ... remember, after Riley's body was found Friday the police held a presser where they reiterated that no foul play was suspected.

Strain -- a Missouri college student -- was recovered from the Cumberland River about eight miles from downtown Nashville where he vanished during a night out with friends.

Riley disappeared on Friday, March 8 after getting kicked out of Luke Bryan 's 32 Bridge Bar ... and, surveillance footage caught him wandering the city aimlessly, though he seemed totally fine while interacting with cops .

32 Bridge Bar claims they didn't overserve Riley, but admits they did kick him out because he was too intoxicated.

After leaving the bar, Riley seemingly made his way toward the river -- confirmed by a bank card discovered in that area. Search crews began scouring the river after the find ... and eventually came across Strain's body.

We've reached out to local law enforcement ... so far, no word back.

The body of University of Missouri student Riley Strain, who went missing earlier this month after being kicked out of a Nashville bar on a trip with fraternity brothers, was found Friday in a river , police said.

“The body of Riley Strain was recovered from the Cumberland River in West Nashville this morning, approximately 8 miles from downtown,” the Metropolitan Nashville Police wrote on X .

No foul play is suspected, but an autopsy has been scheduled, police said.

A worker at a company located near the river clearing debris from the shoreline discovered a body floating in the water near 61st Avenue North around 7:30 a.m. and notified authorities.

The fire department worked quickly to remove the body from the water before cops confirmed it was the 22-year-old a few hours later.

Police Chief John Drake told reporters Strain had been wearing the same shirt, watch and “other identifying items” that initially led investigators to believe they had found the missing student.

His body was found exactly two weeks after he was last seen.

Mizzou student Riley Strain went missing in Nashville on March 8.

Strain was visiting the Music City with his Delta Chi fraternity brothers when he vanished after leaving country star Luke Bryan’s honky-tonk bar, Luke’s 32 Bridge, on March 8.

Over the next two weeks, authorities followed a breadcrumb trail of phone pings and grainy surveillance footage, even finding a bank card in his name on the shore of the river earlier this week.

The 6-foot-7 finance major purchased one alcoholic drink and two drinks of water during his visit to the watering hole, according to TC Restaurant Group — the operator and owner of Luke’s 32 Bridge.

riverboat ride nashville

The bar shared that security decided to boot Strain from the nightspot based on their “conduct standards” due to Strain’s behavior, escorting him from the venue through the Broadway exit at the front of the building at 9:35 p.m.

“He was followed down the stairs with one member of his party. The individual with Riley did not exit and returned upstairs.”

Strain told his friends he would meet them at their room at the Tempo by Hilton, about five blocks from the bar.

But Strain never returned.

He was seemingly captured on surveillance footage crossing Gay Street around 9:47 p.m.  after leaving the bar — about a 17-minute walk from Luke’s 32 Bridge  and in the opposite direction of the hotel,  according to Nashville police .

Luke's 32 Bridge in Nashville

He was then spotted on Nashville Police Officer Reginald Young’s bodycam while he walked down Gay Street, the department posted on X.

Young, who was in the area investigating a reported vehicle burglary, briefly interacted with Strain, asking him how he was doing, to which the Missouri senior replied: “Good.”

Strain did not appear to be in any distress during their short interaction.

Strain told his friends he would return to their room at the Tempo by Hilton, about five blocks from the bar.

A local homeless man claimed he saw a “very, very intoxicated” Strain almost fall over the edge of a trail into the Cumberland River.

Police say Strain was spotted one final time on Gay Street at 9:52 p.m. but shared that “No video has been discovered that shows Riley away from Gay St. after the 9:52 p.m. timeframe.”

Strain wasn’t reported as missing until about four hours after he was escorted out of Luke’s 32 Bridge, at 1:35 a.m., when a friend returned to their hotel to find him not in the room.

What to know about the mysterious disappearance and death of Riley Strain

  • College student Riley Strain, 22, went missing after being kicked out of Luke’s 32 Bridge Food + Drink in Nashville on March 8, 2024. Strain told his University of Missouri fraternity brothers that he was going back to his hotel room, but never arrived or contacted his friends.
  • Surveillance footage shows him walking toward the hotel before making a wrong turn. His cellphone last pinged about a mile from the bar. A video saw Strain jogging away from his hotel before his disappearance.
  • According to the Luke Bryan-owned bar, Strain only purchased one alcoholic drink and two waters the night he went missing. The 22-year-old’s parents have claimed he was “overserved.”
  • The student’s bank card was found days later on an embankment of the Cumberland River by two TikTokkers searching the area.
  • A local homeless man allegedly saw a “very, very intoxicated” Strain almost fall over the edge of a trail into the river. Strain was also spotted by a police officer near the river, according to body camera footage.
  • Strain’s body was found in the river on Saturday by workers clearing the river of debris. According to a preliminary autopsy , Strain’s death was “accidental.”

His phone last pinged between 10 and 10:30 p.m. in the  area of Public Square Park,  located near the sheriff’s office and the Cumberland River.

A girl Strain had been romantically involved with said she texted him on the night of his disappearance “to see how he was doing” on the trip.

His Delta Chi fraternity brother Chris Dingman said the girl received a bizarre “scripted text” from Strain saying “Good lops.”

Strain wasn't reported as missing until about four hours after he was escorted out of Luke's 32 Bridge at 1:35 a.m. when a friend returned to their hotel to find him not in the room.

Dingman said the girl had trouble understanding what the text meant and resorted to Googling its meaning.

Strain’s fraternity brother noted that the text highlighted his friend’s mental state that night.

On March 17, police found Strain’s bank card on the embankment of the river, but the card had not been used since he went missing.

Michelle Strain Whiteid, mother of Riley Strain, holds onto the arm of her husband, Chris Whiteid, during a press conference at the Metro Nashville Police Department Headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee.

As the search intensified, the United Cajun Navy — a nonprofit that helps organize search and rescues during natural disasters — joined in the efforts.

After Strain’s body was discovered, the group stood down in their search, later taking to Facebook to thank those who had lent a hand.

“We regret that the search for Riley Strain didn’t end joyfully, but oftentimes the closure outweighs the unknown,” the group’s statement reads in part .

Michelle Strain Whiteid, mother of Riley Strain, speaks during a press conference at the Metro Nashville Police Department Headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee.

“Riley’s family gets a chance to bring him home and say goodbye in their own way.”

The United Cajun Navy did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.

In a statement provided to The Post Friday, Delta Chi Fraternity spoke glowingly of their departed brother.

Ryan Gilbert, father of Riley Strain, speaks during a press conference at the Metro Nashville Police Department Headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee.

“The Delta Chi Fraternity is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of our esteemed fraternity brother, Riley Strain,” it wrote.

“Our hearts go out to Riley’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time as we work to provide support and resources to all those affected by this tragedy.”

Strain’s stepfather, Chris Whiteid, and his mother, Michelle Whiteid, who earlier this week tearfully told reporters she was holding out hope her son would be found alive, could not be reached for comment Friday.

Riley Strain’s Death Ruled As ‘Accidental’ After Body Was Recovered From A River

Riley Strain 's death has reportedly been ruled "accidental" by Nashville police. The 22-year-old college student was found in the Cumberland River after going missing during a Nashville trip.

Security footage and witness accounts helped piece together his movements, including when he left a Nashville bar. Social media users debated the circumstances surrounding his death, with some questioning foul play and others empathizing with Strain's parents' unimaginable loss.

Riley Strain's Death Ruled 'Accidental' With No Evidence Of Foul Play

In a recent update , police have ruled that the death of Strain, the 22-year-old college student whose body was found in the Cumberland River in Nashville, was " accidental " with no evidence of foul play.

Strain was first reported missing on March 8 during a trip to Nashville and was last seen leaving singer Luke Bryan's restaurant and bar.

Finally, on Friday, the Metro Nashville Police Department shared the news of the discovery of his body on X (formerly Twitter).

"The body of Riley Strain was recovered from the Cumberland River in West Nashville this morning, approximately 8 miles from downtown. No foul play-related trauma was observed. An autopsy is pending," the tweet read.

Luke Bryan's Bar Denied Overserving Riley Strain Alcohol

Following the news of Strain's disappearance, Bryan's 32 Bridge Food + Drink reportedly came under investigation for allegedly overserving the student alcohol.

However, TC Restaurant Group, which owns and runs the bar, denied these claims in a statement, detailing how much Riley was served and how they escorted him from the location.

The statement read, per People Magazine : "During Riley's visit to Luke's 32 Bridge, our records show he purchased and was served one alcoholic drink and two glasses of water. At 9:35 p.m., our security team made a decision based on our conduct standards to escort him from the venue through our Broadway exit at the front of our building."

"He was followed down the stairs with one member of his party. The individual with Riley did not exit and returned upstairs," the statement added. Days later, on March 22, Strain's body was found miles away from where he was last seen.

His Credit Card Was Found Near The Cumberland River

In an interview with the publication, Strain's stepfather, Chris Whiteid, revealed that Strain traveled to Nashville accompanied by his Delta Chi fraternity brothers for their annual formal.

Whiteid added that their concern rose the next day when Strain's friends contacted the family about his disappearance.

"I was literally getting ready to tee off on the golf course when my wife called me, and I turned around, went and loaded all my stuff off the golf cart, and told my friend that I was sorry I had to leave," he recounted.

The search for Strain soon escalated, gaining national attention, with social media users actively invested in the case. Notably, a bank card belonging to Strain surfaced near the Cumberland River on March 17, discovered by two women who were going through trash along the river bank.

Riley Strain's Mother Recalls Her Last Words To Him

As authorities pieced together Strain's movement, they found surveillance footage that captured the 22-year-old walking near a bridge. Local businesses assisted the search by providing security camera footage.

Prior to Strain's body being found, his mother, Michelle Whiteid, 52, told People in an interview that the last conversation they had on the night of his disappearance ended with "I love you."

She recalled that they "FaceTimed for a while" and that "he was so excited."

"Then we hung up, and he texted me, and he was like, 'It was kind of hard to hear you, but I wanted you to see what was happening," she added.

"I said, 'Well, you boys be safe. Make good choices. I love you guys.' And he said, 'I love you, too,'" Michelle added. "And that's it, that's the last I have heard from him."

Social Media Users Voice Their Opinions On The Student's Tragic Death

Following the tragic news of Strain's passing, social media users voiced their concerns and shared their condolences.

One user called for bars to provide safe rides for patrons, writing: "Bars need to start providing safe rides for people, since they profit off the intoxication and, as in this case, detriment of their customers."

Another commenter highlighted the importance of trusting friends while out, noting: "Sad sad sad. Just goes to show, trust who your friends are when you're out anywhere. Yes, he's an adult but even having decent friends could have saved his life. Prayers to his family. Wonder if there will be signs of foul play after Autopsy?"

A third person expressed deep empathy for Strain's parents, acknowledging the unimaginable pain of losing a child. They wrote: "My heart physically hurts for these parents. I can't even imagine their pain. It's unimaginable. I believe losing a child is a parent's biggest fear, I know it's mine. I personally couldn't survive it."

Rest in peace, Riley Strain.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Police in Tennessee are searching for a University of Missouri student who was last seen by friends at a Nashville bar Friday night.

Metropolitan Nashville Police released video Tuesday that shows Riley Strain, 22, crossing a downtown street Friday night. Police have said Strain was last seen just before 10 p.m. Friday after drinking downtown. They searched the area, including the banks of the Cumberland River, by helicopter and on the ground, but did not find him.

University of Missouri officials said in a statement that they were alerted over the weekend that Strain was missing after traveling to Nashville to attend a private event and that they have been in touch with family and authorities.

Strain’s mother, Michelle Whiteid, and his stepfather, Chris Whiteid, drove to Nashville from Springfield, Missouri, after they learned he disappeared while on a fraternity trip, news outlets reported.

“I just need to know where my son is,” Michelle Whiteid said. “We talk every day, multiple times a day. This is the longest I’ve ever gone without talking to him. It’s devastating. I just want to find him and hug him.”

After the bus ride from Columbia, Strain and some of his fraternity brothers went out, according to Chris Whiteid. Strain was asked to leave a bar, and they got separated, he said.

“The boys called him, and he said, ‘I’m walking back to my hotel,’” Chris Strain said. “They didn’t think anything about it.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Riley Strain, a University of Missouri student who went missing in Tennessee’s capital for nearly two weeks, has been found dead in a river, police announced Friday. No foul play is suspected, investigators said.

Metro Nashville police officials confirmed that Strain’s body had been recovered from the Cumberland River about 8 miles (12.8 kilometers) west of downtown at around 7:30 a.m.

Police Chief John Drake told reporters that workers on the river initially found Strain’s body and alerted authorities. Medical examiners later confirmed it was Strain, he said. Police department spokesperson Don Aaron said an autopsy will be conducted Saturday.

“We have reports that normally under these circumstances … with his height and weight, he could have surfaced between 14 and 20 days,” Drake said. “This is the 14th day. So we were really expecting to find him.”

Police previously said Strain, 22, was last seen just before 10 p.m. on March 8 after drinking downtown. A massive search was quickly launched, with just small clues available to help investigators trying to find him, including finding his bank card along a riverbank and using surveillance footage to track his final moments.

University of Missouri officials said in a statement that Strain was traveling to Nashville to attend a private event.

Members of Strain’s family offered their thanks for everyone’s help and support during remarks to reporters Friday in Nashville.

“I just ask that you mommas out there, hug your babies tight tonight please,” his mother, Michelle Whiteid, said through tears. “Please, for me, just hug your babies tight tonight. And again, thank you. Thank you for sharing our story.”

Drake said that his “heart and prayers” were going to Strain’s family “for this very unfortunate and tragic accident.”
