Radio control boats compared to other RC models

With hobby-quality radio control boats, sometimes referred to as remote control boats, you can do most of the same things that you can do with RC cars. You can run them for fun, race them, admire their scale looks, and add option parts to increase their performance.

The main difference is that you don’t run your RC boat on land. That’s what makes them so popular and exciting. Picture yourself at the lake on a sunny afternoon, racing your remote control boat through the shimmering water with a broad wake and tall rooster tail behind it. Or maybe you'd prefer to gently glide along with a remote control sailboat. There’s nothing else in the RC hobby like it.

The only special requirement is that you need a body of water large enough for the RC marine model you own, without strong currents and relatively free of limbs, grasses, and other obstacles that could snag it. If your RC boat does get stuck away from shore or runs out of power in the middle of the lake, you may need access to a jon boat or other safe way to retrieve it.

Otherwise, piloting your own RC boat is as easy as driving an RC car. And just like RC cars, radio control boats are available in a wide range of styles, sizes, skill levels, completion levels, and prices. Horizon Hobby® has one that’s perfect for every interested hobbyist.

Types of RC boats

Radio control electric boats are available in many styles. Tunnel hull and hydroplane RC boats are among the fastest, with flat bottoms that skim across smooth water with little resistance when up to speed. For rougher conditions, the V-shaped hull of deep vee RC boats is best. Though not quite as fast, a deep vee can cut more easily through choppy water. Electric RC boats come in many sizes, including mini, which can be run in swimming pools or small ponds. The jet pump propelled Pro Boat® Jet Jam™ mini RC boat is a blast in water only three inches deep!

Powered by wind like their full-size counterparts, RC sailboats are great for beginners and economical, too. They provided unlimited run time as long as there’s a breeze. You might think of sailboats as elegant and leisurely paced, but there are also RC racing sailboats for modelers who crave speed.

Scale RC boats prioritize realism over speed. They still perform well, but their owners pay close attention to recreating the full-scale subjects accurately. The Dumas® Creole Queen scale steamboat kit features a motor-powered paddle wheel and includes three pages of decals.

RC airplane pilots can make an easy transition into boating with an RC airboat. These use the same power plants and propellers as RC aircraft. The engine mounts on a pedestal at the back of the boat and the force of the spinning prop pushes the boat across the water.

Remote control boats in kit form or ready-to-run (RTR

Like other categories of radio control models, RC boats can be purchased ready-to-run (RTR) with most or all accessories included, or as kits that usually require assembly, power systems, and radio equipment.

Many ready-to-run RC boat models have molded ABS plastic hulls and decks that are already joined at the factory. The motor and running hardware are usually also installed. RC boats with ABS hulls tend to be among the most affordable, but speed and performance are still impressive. With optional accessories, the Pro Boat Blackjack™ [link https://www.horizonhobby.com/product/blackjack-42-8s-brushless-catamaran-rtr/PRB08043.html] with ABS hull can go 30 mph or more.

Factory-built RC boats are also available with preformed fiberglass hulls. Fiberglass boats are more expensive due to the amount of work required by the manufacturer (the reinforcing fiberglass material must be saturated with a liquid resin and then applied to the boat hull mold). This construction is usually found on high-performance RC boats like the Pro Boat UL-19 Hydroplane , whose speed can exceed 50 mph.

Scale RC boat kits often feature wooden hulls. Though among the least expensive boat models, wooden boat kits also require the most work to complete. Many wood planks must be fitted onto the hull framework and then finished with paint or resin to ensure the hull is watertight.

The RC boat you choose will determine what else you’ll need to buy. Most ready-to-run (RTR) RC boats available from Horizon Hobby include a 2-channel radio system, motor, and ESC. You might need to provide your own suitable battery pack and battery charger. Read the product descriptions to learn what is and is not included with the RC boat you’ve chosen, and for recommended completion items.

You’ll find that the internal design of a typical electric RC boat is pretty simple. The motor is located near the front of the boat. It’s connected to a drive shaft that runs toward the back of the boat and out through the bottom of the hull. The boat’s propeller is at the end of the shaft, submerged in the water. A servo-activated rudder positioned just behind the propeller enables you to steer.

RC boats often use water cooling to keep their motor and ESC from overheating. These components are wrapped with coils of aluminum tubing, and the coils are connected to a water pickup at the bottom of the hull. As the boat moves forward, water is forced into the pickup and through the coils to provide cooling.

The electronics used in RC boats are highly water-resistant, but the boat manufacturer may recommend additional steps to seal out water for additional protection. You should also be aware that most remote control boats should not be used in saltwater. Unlike freshwater, saltwater can cause rust and other damage to delicate electronic parts.

Tower Hobbies is one of the leading sources for quality-built RC boats, parts and accessories. We offer one of the widest selections of RC boating equipment because there is a wide range in skill, hobby and interest levels.

It can be hard to know where to begin when buying your first RC boat and setting out for the water. It’s important to understand your current skill level, along with where you plan on setting sail, in order to find the right RC boat for your needs.

RC Boats for Beginners

There are many models and options available when starting out, so it’s important that you learn a few key areas when it comes to RC boating.

RC Boat Batteries

It’s important to understand your battery life when out on a body of water. An RC boat can and will run out of battery after an extended period of cruising on the water and it’s not fun if you have to fish out the boat yourself once it peters out. Having a second charged battery on hand can be a great way to increase your time out on the water.

RC Boat Controller Limits

In addition to battery life, it’s important to know what the range is on your model’s RC controller – especially on larger bodies of water. A beginner mistake is allowing the boat to get too far away and out of range for picking up the remote-control signal. When looking to purchase a reliable RC boat, it’s important to understand your intended application.

RC Boat Skill Level

Getting the fastest and most agile boat on the water can be fun, but it’s important to recognize your skill level. Fast RC boats can reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour! RC boats can be more difficult to control and just like real boats, the RC boat can be at risk to capsizing. For beginners, you may try to find a boat with adjustable speeds and self-righting systems that help prevent issues from lack of control skill.

Types of RC Boats

We always recommend evaluating what type of hobbyist you are before making a boat purchase? Are you looking for fun, high-speed action or would you prefer a relaxing day at sail? Tower Hobbies offers a wide variety of RC boats, including RC boat kits designed to be built and driven by you. Check out our summaries below to find the right RC boat for your hobby.

Electric RC Boats

Electric RC boats use two types of electric motors – brushed and brushless. (You can learn more about the difference between brushed and brushless motors here). Electric RC boats are easier to get up and running and they are quieter and cleaner than gas RC boats. Electric boats come in a larger variety of sizes and hobby skill levels, whereas gas-powered RC boats tend to be used by intermediate or expert hobbyists.

Gas RC Boats

Gas-powered RC boats are typically larger due to the engine size, and offer increased realism, including smoke and noise of a gas-powered engine. Gas-powered RC boat engines do require some mechanical skills for engine tuning and maintenance but are typically faster and more water-resistant than brushed and brushless electric motors if well-tuned.

RC Sailboats

Remote controlled sailboats use the natural wind for movement and the user controls the boats steering and positioning of sails with a radio transmitter. RC sailboats come in a wide variety of options, including electric motors, which can be valuable when the wind dies down or better maneuverability back to shore.

RC Scale Boats

RC scale boats are based on real world ships, boats and vessels. These are typically sold in kit form, where the user builds the RC model, adds the motor and drive train and then sails the boat on the water. RC scale boat kits require skill in ship building as the model must float (balanced) and be watertight. These projects require significant time investment but can be exceptionally rewarding once completed.

When you’re looking for the best RC boat for the money, you really need to look no further than the Altair AA Tide! This boat features brushless motors and is wicked fast reaching speads up to 25 MPH! Not only is the Tide fast, but it’s super easy to manuever out on the water! If you’re looking for a fast boat to impress your friends, look no further than the AA Tide! Check out our video review of the AA102 below!

Top 5 Best RC Boats For Sale

Not sure what kind of boat you’re looking for? Don’t know the difference between a remote control pontoon boat and a drag boat? Not to worry – this section is dedicated to our top 5 overall picks for the best RC boats for sale. These new remote control boats are great for adults and kids alike, and are a great choice for anyone looking to find the best RC boat for the money and get into the radio control hobby.

#1. The AA Tide – #1 RC Boat for the Money

Click here to See it On Amazon! or you can g–>Get fast and free shipping from the manufacturer’s website at AltairAerial.com .

The Tide RC Brushless Boat is the newest addition to our list. This sleek and stylish RC boat from Altair can reach speeds up to 40 KM/h at a range of over 100 meters! Typically, when you see features in a boat like this, you’re looking at a price tag approaching $200!!

Just as the AA102 has, the Tide features an Anti-Capsize Hull System that enables the user to flip the boat back over if it ever capsizes. It also features a low-battery alarm and an out of range alarm as well, so you can be sure the boat doesn’t get stranded far out at sea.

Probably my favorite feature on this boat isn’t really on the boat at all… it’s the charger. Altair has included a balance charger with this boat, a much-needed upgrade from the AA102. The balance charger helps maintain your battery’s health by not overcharging it and making sure that each cell in the battery is charged at the proper rate. The battery itself, well, it only gets about 8 minutes per charge, so I’ll probably add another one shortly.

The Tide Specifications

  • • Can Reach Speeds Up to 40 km/h
  • • Range: 100+ meters (330 ft)
  • • Comes with 1 11.1V 1500mAH Li-ion Battery
  • • Out of Range Alarm, Low Battery Alarm
  • • Anti-Capsize Hull System Designed to Not Flip Over

#2. Altair AA102 – Best Remote Control Boat for Beginners

Click here to See it On Amazon! or you can get fast and free shipping from the manufacturer’s website at AltairAerial.com .

The AA102 is a fantastic looking RC boat that really has some performance numbers to go with it. This release from Altair can reach speeds of up to 30 km/h at a range of up to 100 meters which is fantastic when you look in this price range. The boat comes loaded with features that include an Anti-Capsize Hull System that ensures if your boat flips over it will right itself in the water for you. There also is a low battery alarm and an out of range alarm just in case you lose track of how much fun you’re having.

Check out this video from Altair for the AA102:

The one drawback that I found on this boat is that the battery life isn’t what I would want it to be (only 7 minutes), but they do include 2 batteries in the package so you do get almost 15 minutes of runtime before you need to re-charge both batteries.

Pair that kind of performance and top notch features with the Altair brand that is known for releasing high quality products and you have a rc boat that is one of the best bang for your buck remote control boats on the market today!

They even have an Altair Video Tutorials page that helps you get started. Email Altair Inc at [email protected]

AA102 Specifications

  • • Can Reach Speeds Up to 30 km/h
  • • Range: 100 meters (330 ft)
  • • Comes with 2 x 3.7V 1500mAH Li-ion Batteries

best rc boat for the money aa102

#3. The Wave – Great Budget RC Boat

The AA Wave is Altair’s other boat to release this year and it stands a close second on our list the the AA Aqua though it’s tough to go wrong with either boat. Just like the AA Aqua, the Altair Wave features an Anti-Capsize Hull System that can self correct any time your boat flips upside down in the water.

While this boat does go slightly slower (25 km/h) than the AA Aqua, the features on the two boats remain practically identical. Again, we wish that the battery life on this product was slightly longer, but they do send an extra battery with the product and at $70 you really are going to have a hard time finding a better buy.

AA Wave Specifications

  • • Can Reach Speeds Up to 25 km/h
  • • Range: 120 meters (390 ft)

#4. Proboat Blackjack

Read reviews and shop for the Proboat Blackjack Here

If you’re interested in fast remote control motor boats but can’t afford any of the best Traxxas models, the Proboat Blackjack is a great $200 substitute. It still moves at a good speed of 30+ miles per hour thanks to a powerful brushless 2000Kv water-cooled motor and 30A Li-Po compatible ESC. An off-set rudder system provides decent stability, and the red and black design just looks great cruising along a lake or pond.

A strongly recommended motor boat for the intermediate RC boat user.

Proboat Blackjack Specifications

  • • Takes a 2S or 3S lithium-ion polymer battery (not included)
  • • 30+ MPH top speed with 3S battery
  • • Brushless RC boat 2000Kv water-cooled motor
  • • 30A Li-Po compatible ESC
  • • 2.4GHz Pro Boat radio system
  • • Battery and charger not included

#5. Force1 H102 Velocity – Best Remote Control Boat for Lakes

Read reviews and shop for the Force1 H102 Velocity Here

The Force1 H102 Velocity is a very popular remote control boat for sale – a regular Amazon best-seller with good reviews to back it up. So it’s probably no surprise that the Velocity ended up so high on our list. There’s a lot to love with this new remote control boat – it’s easy to sail, costs less than 100 dollars, and moves at a fast 20 MPH top speed.

One of the best features of the Velocity is that it’s one of the new self-righting remote control boats that are becoming more popular. This means that if it capsizes, it can automatically right itself in most circumstances. This is a great feature for beginners who are more likely to capsize, and it’s also a great RC boat for lakes! A lot of experts like this sort of feature too, because it makes it easier to recover your property and means you can use it outside of shallow water.

Force1 H102 Velocity Specifications

  • • 20 MPH top speed
  • • 13” V-hull
  • • Takes a 7.4V 600mAh Lion Battery (2 included)
  • • Features a self-righting Capsize Recovery Mode
  • • Battery charger and cable included

#6. Traxxas Spartan – Best Professional Racing RC Boat

Read reviews and shop for the Traxxas Spartan Here

Traxxas is one of the most well-respected RC boat and car manufacturers working today. They’ve knocked it out of the park once again with their 57076 Spartan, which is one of the fastest remote control boats for sale thanks to an incredible top speed of 50 miles per hour!

How does it move so fast? Well, this is one of the new wave of brushless RC boats. Brushless motors operate more efficiently and can give the boat more power, and Traxxas’ Velineon motor is one of the best models around. Innovative design is the hallmark of every piece of this large RC speedboat, which also includes Traxxas stability management and a much better wireless connection than most other remote control boats.

There’s no denying that this is the most advanced and overall best RC boat we’ve reviewed, especially for rough waters. However, some of our readers will be turned away by the price, which is $421 before batteries and charger (which have to be purchased separately.) Still, if you have the money for it, this is a perfect boat for beginners and advanced pilots alike.

Traxxas Spartan Specifications

  • • 30-50 MPH top speed, depending on battery type
  • • 36” V-hull
  • • Low battery alarm will warn you when the boat is almost out of power
  • • Can be controlled via smartphone or radio transmitter
  • • equipped with Traxxas Stability Management
  • • Batteries and charger sold seperately

#7. UDIRC Venom

Read reviews and shop for the UDIRC Venom Here

This is a faster RC speedboat model that is really made for those that want to experience higher speeds and a lot of excitement. This cool RC boat is about a foot long and represents what people usually want most out of a modern, sleek remote control boat in the cheap price range. Some even consider it the best remote control speedboat for sale, although it’s only #2 on our list.

Users really love the low-battery alarm, which makes it so that you don’t have to worry about getting stranded way out in the middle of the body of water. It’s not recommended for use in an area that has huge waves, but the hull is overall very durable. And it controls very well, especially considering that most electric RC boats under $50…well, to put it politely, do NOT control very well.

One of the Venom’s unique features is the fact that it automatically cools its motor and prevents it from overheating using the water it sails on. This helps the boat last longer and also improves its battery life, which is among the best in its price range.

All-around, this is one of the best RC boats under $100.

UDIRC Venom Specifications

  • • 15 MPH top speed
  • • 12” V-hull
  • • Takes a 3.7 V 600Mah lithium ion battery (2 included)
  • • ABS anti-tilt hull construction
  • • USB battery charger and cable included

UDIRC Venom best rc boat for lakes

#8. Pro Boat Recoil

Read reviews and shop for the Pro Boat Recoil Here

The Recoil is another self-righting remote control boat for sale by Pro Boat, a company with a good reputation for customer service. It combines a lot of things we liked about other boats higher up on this list: it’s a fast boat, it’s large, and it’s a self righting RC boat. In fact, many would consider it the best beginner boat for sale. It also uses a 2950Kv brushless motor.

So what’s the catch? Well, first is the price. $180 isn’t beyond the pale, but it’s not exactly cheap, and some of these features are available in RC boats under 100. The second problem is the battery life – the Recoil only lasts 10 minutes on a single battery charge and doesn’t come with a spare.

Still, if you don’t mind springing for a few extra batteries, this is a great radio controlled boat for somebody who wants all of the latest features in a single, somewhat cheap package.

Pro Boat Recoil Specifications

  • • 25 MPH top speed
  • • 17” Deep-V hull
  • • Takes a 3S 1300mAh 11.1V LiPo Battery (1 included)
  • • 2950Kv brushless RC boat motor
  • • Battery charger included

#9. SOWOFA FT011 Ultimate Racing Boat

Read reviews and shop for the SOWOFA FT011 Here

The SOWOFA FT011, also known as the Ultimate Racing Boat, doesn’t quite live up to its name. In particular, it wouldn’t be right to mention this boat without explaining that the company behind it is a little less than ethical – the top image of this product on their Amazon page, for example, is blatantly misleading.

However, there’s still a lot to love about the FT011, which is one of the fastest and most fun remote control boats for sale. It has an incredible top speed, especially considering its large hull size. It operates on powerful brushless motors that don’t need cleaning and can self-right itself after a capsize. It also has a solid internal cooling mechanism that keeps the electronics running longer, and it’s a good thing too, because the battery life is only about 10-15 minutes. However, you can pay for a better battery and charger to upgrade this boat for not too much extra money.

In all, this is an excellent large RC boat for sale that will please hobbyists and experienced racers alike with its speed and ability. Just don’t expect a lot of post-sale customer support.

SOWOFA FT011 Specifications

  • • 50 MPH top speed
  • • 25” V-hull
  • • Takes a 14.8V 2200mA battery (1 included)
  • • Self-righting RC boat mode
  • • Brushless remote control boat motor

SOWOFA remote control boat

#10. Cheerwing RC Racing Boat

Read reviews and shop for the Cheerwing RC Racing Boat Here

The Cheerwing RC Racing Boat is a popular radio controlled boat because of its small size and excellent controls. Its streamlined hull and compact shape are actually specifically designed for use in smaller bodies of water such as a pond or lake.

And despite the Cheerwing’s low price it actually has decent specs, with a top speed of 15 MPH and a sailing time of 8 minutes off of only 80 minutes of charge. You might want to buy a couple spare batteries, but at least you won’t have to wait long to sail again after they’ve been spent.

This awesome RC boat for lakes is especially good for beginners, because it has self-righting capsize recovery features built right into the hull, auto-corrects its own tilt, is water-cooled, and has built-in alarms for low battery or weak signal connection. So if you’re looking for a great small RC boat that can be used in any conditions, the Cheerwing RC Racing Boat is an excellent choice.

Cheerwing Racing Boat Specifications

  • • Takes a 3.7V*2 600mAh Li-Fe battery (1 included)
  • • Self balancing stability mode
  • • Auto-correct yaw
  • • Fast charging time

cheerwing cool remote control boat

#11. Babrit F1

Read reviews and shop for the Babrit F1 Here

The Babrit F1 is a small boat that can move in any direction: forward, left, right, and reverse. Not many boats can move in reverse, and that advanced versatility makes the F1 one of the best remote control boats for lakes, because it’s easy to back away from the edge if you find yourself getting into a dangerous situation. Precise port position and self balancing sailing also keep this boat stable and upright in any condition.

The Babrit F1 is also just a good boat all around – it moves fast (but not so fast that it’s unusable in a smaller space), has a decent battery life, doesn’t cost too much and never loses signal connection. The only downside is that the transmitter range is a little short, but that really doesn’t matter in a small lake or pond. All in all, this is a great RC boat for beginners and experts (though it may find more favor with the former.)

Babrit F1 Specifications

  • • 11” V-hull
  • • Takes a 4.8V 700 mah battery (1 included)
  • • Moves in reverse

babrit best rc boat

#12. Traxxas DCB M41 Catamaran – Fastest RC Motor Boat

Read reviews and shop for the Traxxas DCB M41 Catamaran Here

Now, someone’s almost certainly going to point out that technically ALL the boats we’ve reviewed so far have been remote control motor boats. That’s because all remote control boats (and remote control vehicles in general) require a motor to operate.

The Traxxas DCB M41 Catamaran, however, is the fastest RC motor boat for sale today. This is the kind of boat that you can actually use for racing, if you feel so inclined!

When you’re looking for cool RC motor boats with pure speed, there’s just no beating Traxxas. RC boats costing less than $100 are great budget-friendly options that can be enjoyed by people of all skill levels. Since these are cheap RC boats, you may be missing out on some features that you’d find in more expensive RC boats, but don’t let that turn you away. These affordable RC toys under $100 still give you a great boating experience and may just be exactly what you’re looking for.

Some features to look for when shopping for RC boats less than $100 are speed, range, size, and battery life. An affordable boat will probably travel at speeds around 10-15 mph. While this isn’t as fast as some more professional-grade RC boats, these speeds are great for kids and beginners who are just starting the RC hobby. Similarly, the RC boat may not have the farthest range but this is okay because it will help drivers stay in control without their boat getting out too far in the water.

An RC water toy at this price may also be quite a bit smaller than other boats costing more than $100. Again, a smaller size will be beginner and kid-friendly and help them get started learning how to drive RC toys. The battery life in your RC boat may only be about 10-15 minutes as well. However, one good thing about RC boats less than $100 is that some manufacturers will include an extra battery giving users double the driving time.

One of the best places to drive an RC boat is at the lake. Some RC boats are better for driving in lakes than others for a number of reasons. Since lakes are often large bodies of water it’s important that you will be able to see your boat at all times and stay in control of it.

Some features to look for when buying an RC toy for lakes are it’s size, speed, range, and battery life. Plus, it also helps if your boat is a bright color like red or yellow so you can always spot it on the water. You will also want a boat that is big enough as well for these reasons. A smaller sized boat may be harder to spot if it’s far away from you.

One great thing about driving RC boats on lakes is that you can reach some serious speeds without interfering with other people that may be on the water. Boats that go about 20-30 mph would be great for racing across the lake. You can also find an RC boat that has a bit farther of a range to allow to drive across the lake. However, you don’t want to drive too far and lose your boat. Because of this, you should find a boat with an out-of-range alarm so you will be able to know when it’s time to reel in your boat a little bit.

Also look for RC boats that have a low-battery alarm as well. While driving a boat on a lake will allow you find a boat that has a longer battery life, you won’t want the battery to run out while it’s far away from you. These features help you keep control of RC lake boat so you can have an enjoyable driving experience.

Proboat Blackjack – Best RC Speed Boat for Lakes

The Proboat Blackjack will really excel out on the open water of a lake. Featuring a brushless 2000Kv water-cooled motor and with the ability to reach speeds of up tih 30 mph, you’re going to love how this catamaran looks as it skips across the water surface.

While this boat doesn’t handle with quite the ease that the AA102 does, if you’re looking for something that can really zip I think this boat might be for you

  • • Speed: 30 mph
  • • Brushless 2000Kv water-cooled motor
  • • Spektrum STX 2.4GHz FHSS Radio System
  • • Off-set rudder system

Some RC boat drivers may have a need for speed. If this is you and you’re looking for an RC speed boat, there are certain things to look for.

The fastest RC boats will have brushless motors. A brushless RC boat will have more power as opposed to a brushed model, which means it can go faster and reach some serious speeds on the water.

Because you’ll be going faster in the water, it may be more difficult to stay in control of the boat. Because of this, an anti-capsize hull system will help you tremendously. If your boat gets flipped over in the water, its hull system will help you get it back upright and racing again.

Since fast RC boats can be more advanced, kids should be careful if they are driving them. Always be sure an adult is present when a child is driving an RC boat or wait until they are older before they start driving one. Similarly, beginners may struggle at first. RC speed boats are best for experienced RC hobbyists.

Safety is a huge thing to consider when looking at fast RC boats. That’s why we recommend that only older or experienced drivers use them. Other things to look for to help anyone driving stay safe are low-battery and out-of-range alarms to help you know when it’s time to bring the boat in. Another good tip is to always keep your RC speed boat in site to minimize your chances of losing control of it.

The fastest speed you’ll find on an RC speed boat is around 35-50 mph. These are impressive speeds to reach on the water and are great for racing. Be sure to put your fast RC boat to the test by racing up against other hobbyists and show off those driving skills.

Radio Controlled Boat FAQs

What’s the best rc boat to buy.

We consider the Traxxas Spartan the best remote control boat of 2023. However, there’s really no objective answer to this question. While the Spartan is the most powerful boat and easily one of the fastest, it’s also very expensive and may not have as much appeal to beginners, who may want a boat with self-righting capsize recovery technology.

That’s why we have broken this list of best electric RC boats into several categories – it lets you, the reader, find the boat that works best for you specifically.

How do RC boats work?

The transmitter or mobile device being used to control the boat sends a radio signal to a receiver on the boat itself. The receiver then interprets the signal and uses the boat’s motor to go forward, turn, or reverse. RC boats have been around for several years now and are a very popular. There are even a selection of RC boats for kids that make a great gift

Can RC boats go in saltwater?

Most remote control boats should not be used in saltwater. Unlike freshwater, saltwater can cause rust and other forms of damage to the delicate electronic parts inside your vehicle. However, RC boats that are designed to be used in saltwater do exist – so as long as you make sure to buy something that says it’s “saltwater safe”, you should be able to use it anywhere.

What’s the fastest RC boat?

The fastest RC boat ever recorded is the Munich SAW, which was recorded at speeds of over 300 kilometers per hour (a little under 200 mph.) However, this world record setter was a custom build and is not available for commercial sale.

The fastest RC boat that you can buy is probably the Traxxas DCB M41 Catamaran. It regularly moves at speeds of 50-60 miles per hour, and with the right battery it can even go much faster than that.

What is the best RC boat for rough water?

The Force1 Velocity, UDIRC Venom, and anything made by Traxxas are great RC boats for rough water.

Where to buy RC boats?

RC boats can sometimes be found in a store, but are most commonly purchased from Amazon or directly from a manufacturer’s website in the modern age. We’ve included Amazon links to every product on this list to make finding the perfect RC boat more convenient for our readers.

Finding the Best RC Boat for You

Traxxas DCB M41 40-Inch Brushless 50+MPH RC Boat COMBO w/6S & Dual Charger

Traxxas DCB M41 40-Inch Brushless 50+MPH RC Boat COMBO w/6S & Dual Charger

This 6S LiPo & Dual Charger Combo includes two Traxxas 3S 5000mAh LiPo batteries and an EZ-Peak Dual ID Charger for 50+MPH all out performance! This is the Traxxas DCB M41 40-Inch Ready-to-Race Catamaran Boat 6S 50+MPH COMBO PACKAGE with EZ-Peak ID Dual Charger , Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) and TQi 2.4GHz Radio System (Traxxas Bluetooth Link Module Compatible - Module sold separately). This boat comes fully assembled, Ready-To-Race, with the Velineon 540XL Brushless Motor, VXL-6s Marine ESC, and factory-applied graphics. Extreme Power and Speed The DCB M41 Widebody catamaran, designed by DCB (Dave’s Custom Boats) founder Dave Hemmingson, is the largest model offered in the DCB M-Series. With its precision sculpted design and a pair of Mercury Racing 1350 engines, it speeds across the water at 175mph! Traxxas has faithfully captured the incredible looks and performance of the DCB M41 in a detailed scale replica that is versatile, fun, and fast. The catamaran hull has been accurately reproduced to deliver the speed, stability and confidence that the full-size M41 is famous for, allowing you to have fun wherever your marine adventures take you. The M41 replica is equally at home blasting across the waves at the lake on a fun run or exploiting its 50+mph speed on a favorite stretch of smooth water. The razor sharp handling lets you carve turns with authority and precision and yet, offers easy control while cruising by the shore. Traxxas Stability Management Micro Receiver with Fail-Safe Security Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) makes it possible to experience all the extreme power, speed, and acceleration that was engineered into Traxxas models by making it much easier to control the vehicle on any water condition. Punch it off the line and TSM goes to work sensing the boats’s direction and making steering corrections to provide straight-ahead full-throttle acceleration without fishtailing, spinouts, and loss of control. TSM also works during cornering, first making intuitive corrections to maintain the vehicle’s line, then hammer the throttle earlier in the turn for much faster exit speeds. Traxxas TSM gives all the benefits modern electronic stabilization has to offer without intruding on driving fun or introducing unexpected side effects that can be found on other systems such as drastically reduced turning radius, assistance that times out (quits), throttle restrictions, and an overall disconnected driving feel. Traxxas engineers developed superior tuning algorithms that run on high-speed, precision electronic components to create a system that works invisibly, in the background, without ever limiting throttle. TSM can be fine tuned (or turned off) for different surfaces by simply adjusting the multi-function knob on the TQi transmitter, or by adjusting the slider in the Traxxas Link app. The result is driving faster, with more ease, and having more fun. In fact, the driver may not even realize how much TSM is helping until it is turned off and their driving skills are tested without it! Everything is waterproof and Traxxas-tough as you’d expect. This is performance on a whole new level!

40" Widebody Catamaran Hull Based on the full-size M41 Widebody designed and built by Dave’s Custom Boats, the Traxxas M41 gets its unique, aggressive appearance thanks to its use of a catamaran hull design. Instead of using a monohull with a V-shape design, the catamaran uses two parallel hulls of equal size. This hull design offers more than a different visual presentation; the catamaran offers a wider stance on the water for increased stability and less hydrodynamic resistance. This also lets the M41 use less energy to propel itself across the water making it incredibly fast. The M41 gets on plane almost immediately, letting you get to the fun faster - to the tune of 50+ mph on 6S LiPo power. Big Boat, Big Fun The M41 is a water-roosting speed demon that’s also a work of art. At just over 40 inches (1 meter) long, the M41 has a commanding presence just floating in the water. Crack open the throttle and the fun begins! The M41’s size and design give it the versatility to work well in a wide range of conditions. The M41 is stable and easy to control whether blasting across the waves in a big lake, cruising past the shoreline, or testing it’s 50mph top speed on a smooth pond. Rigid Internal Structure A unique feature of the M41 is its rigid internal structure with removeable electronics tray and motor mount. The VXL-6s electronic speed control, waterproof receiver box, and powerful 2056 high-torque steering servo are all bolted securely to the tray. The motor is attached independently to a motor mount that increases the rigidity of the hull. In just a few quick minutes, the electronics can be removed for maintenance. The internal structure includes an integrated reinforced transom to provide a solid mounting surface for the control and drive systems. In all the M41 delivers the ruggedness and reliability needed for all-day fun, run after run. DCB M41 Detailed Cockpit Traxxas faithfully reproduced the M41’s artfully sculpted cockpit with an acute attention to detail, from the gauges and speakers to the steering wheel and seats. The detailed cockpit flows with the rest of the boat to become a complete work of high-performance art. Flex Cable Drive System The M41 features an efficient and reliable flex cable drive system that is securely mounted to the internal structure. This unique installation provides easy access to the various driveline components for quick maintenance or upgrades. Quick Release Flex Cable Some boats rely on set screws to pinch the flex shaft in place. Set screws are prone to loosening and can damage the flex shaft - that's not the Traxxas way. The M41 features a clamping collet that holds the flex cable tightly and centers it perfectly with the motor's output shaft for the smoothest operation possible. This design eliminates the usual set screws that can strip, come apart, or damage the flex cable. When it's time for maintenance, the collet releases quickly with a twist of the included precision wrench. Once loosened, the prop and flex cable simply slide out. Reinstallation is just as fast, making it easy to keep your M41 in peak running condition. High-Performance Prop The M41 is equipped with a surface-piercing prop that has been optimized to get the hull on plane as quickly as possible without cavitation. The prop is made of a molded composite construction that is lightweight and tough, with no balancing or sharpening needed. High-Strength Aluminum Hardware For efficient power transfer and razor-sharp handling, the M41 is equipped with rigid drive hardware and a flex-free transom. These components allow you to experience every ounce of extreme brushless horsepower and performance. The rudder, rudder support, and drive strut are extruded and machined from rugged 6000-series aluminum alloy for maximum strength. The pieces are polished and anodized a vivid blue. The rudder also incorporates a pickup that feeds water through the cooling system. Stainless-Steel Trim Tabs The M41's dual trim tabs further tune its high-speed performance. The trim tabs are precision die-cut and made of bent form stainless steel to resist corrosion. They help keep the M41 stable during high speed runs. Factory-Applied Graphics When it comes to first impressions, the M41 makes a big visual statement with its bold graphics. No painting or decaling is required; the graphics are pre-painted so you can get from the box to the water quickly. Easy-Access Hatch The M41's hatch is secured by a single body clip and removes in seconds for fast and easy access to the hull interior. No sealing tape is required, and a specially designed drip rail in the hull channels away any water that washes over the hatch. Body-Clip Lanyard A flexible rubber lanyard keeps the body clip secured to the hatch so it's always at the ready. It's just one of the many small details that makes a day at the pond with M41 fun and easy. Virtually Unsinkable The foundation of the M41's extreme performance is its all new hull. An accurately rendered replica, the precision engineered DCB M41 hull is fast and stable. Built in foam flotation makes it virtually unsinkable. Stainlees Steel Hex Hardware M41 uses corrosion-resistant stainless-steel and nickel-plated hardware throughout for good looks, easy maintenance, and lasting performance. Waterproof Electronics Waterproof electronics are a must in the marine environment. Traxxas electronics are fully waterproof (not just water resistant). The speed control, servo, and receiver all feature rugged waterproofing protection for dependable operation you can count on. It's an innovation you'll find only in Traxxas vehicles. High-Torque Waterproof Servo M41 demands a powerful steering servo for responsive performance, and Traxxas delivers with the 2056 high-torque servo. O-ring seals make the servo completely waterproof, and there's steering muscle to spare with 80 oz-in of torque at your command. That's twice the power of typical "standard" servos. Sealed Watertight Receiver Box Traxxas' innovative, ground-breaking waterproof receiver box routes the antenna and servo wires neatly through a special watertight seal (patent pending). To protect the receiver, a custom shaped blue O-ring seals the receiver box. Thanks to the unique design, the receiver can be removed for service and even aftermarket receivers can be used, without losing the sealing properties of the box. Velineon VXL-6s Marine Brushless System Extreme Velineon brushless horsepower delivers the muscle you want with the reliability you expect from Traxxas. The VXL-6s Marine electronic speed control is built for true 6S LiPo power.* On-board low voltage detection helps you maintain your batteries. The extra voltage and current maximizes the potential of the Velineon 540XL motor for extreme 50+mph speed. The rebuildable, sensorless Velineon 540XL motor is designed for high-rpm performance and reliability with ultra high-temperature sintered Neodymium magnets, a precision-balanced rotor, and efficient, high-speed ball bearings. Cooling water is routed through the innovative speed control case and then into a unique sealed motor jacket that allows cooling water to flow directly against the motor for maximum possible heat transfer. The M41 keeps its cool, run after run, for trouble-free all-day fun. The World's Most Advanced Ready-To-Race Radio System Traxxas models deserve the world's most advanced Ready-To-Race radio system. The radio system after all is the sole connection between the driver and machine. It has to be precise, comfortable, powerful, and reliable. The all-new Traxxas TQi radio system arrives with a full compliment of tuning features; long-range, high-output, 2.4GHz signal, and proven Traxxas reliability for rock-solid performance. It's so advanced; it doesn't even need an external antenna. However, the most important new feature may already be in your pocket. The TQi can be equipped with an optional Traxxas Link Wireless Module (#6511, sold separately) that turns your Android device, iPad iPhone or iPod touch into a powerful tuning tool for your Traxxas model. The full-color display combines with the Traxxas Link App to deliver an intuitive, high-definition, full-color graphical user interface that unlocks the mysteries of optimizing your radio system for ultimate vehicle control. Traxxas Link Wireless Module Compatible The TQi's most important new feature may already be in your pocket. The TQi can be equipped with a Traxxas Link Wireless Module #6511 (sold separately) that turns your Android, iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch (sold separately) into a powerful tuning tool for your Traxxas model. The full-color display combines with the free Traxxas Link App (on Google Play and the App Store) to deliver an intuitive, high-definition, full-color graphical user interface that unlocks the mysteries of optimizing your radio system for ultimate vehicle control. Best RC Boats In 2024: The Ultimate Review

If you’ve ever seen a mini speedboat zooming across a lake or a scale model battleship sailing at the park, chances are you’ve witnessed the fun of radio controlled (RC) boats. RC boating is a popular hobby that allows you to pilot a variety of boat styles and designs using a handheld radio transmitter. From fast electric racers to scale replicas of famous ships, RC boats provide an immersive experience right at your fingertips.

What is an RC Boat?

An RC boat is essentially a model boat that is controlled remotely using a handheld radio transmitter. The transmitter communicates with a receiver onboard the boat, sending signals that control the propulsion and steering. This allows the operator to maneuver the boat freely without being physically attached to it. RC boats are powered in different ways, with small electric motors being the most common nowadays.

How to Pick the Best RC Boat for Your Needs?

Whether you’re a seasoned RC boating enthusiast or just getting your feet wet in the hobby, choosing the right model boat for you is crucial for an enjoyable experience on the water. With so many types and features to consider, it can be tricky knowing where to start.

1. Determine How You Want to Use It

The first step is deciding how you plan to enjoy your RC boat. This will guide the other choices you make. Here are some of the main ways RC boats are used:

  • Casual Recreation – Cruising around lakes at low to medium speeds. Focus is on relaxation and ease of use.
  • Racing – All about high performance, speed, and competition with others. Requires advanced skill.
  • Scale Modeling – Accurately replicating specific real-life boats. Attention to detail is key.
  • Battling – Stage aquatic battles with scale warships and other vessels.
  • Fishing – Using RC boats to carry your line into hard-to-reach spots.

2. Consider the Performance Level

Once you’ve determined the boat’s purpose, the next consideration is the performance level you want. Beginners should stick to basic hobby-grade models, while more advanced users will demand higher speeds and functions.

Entry-Level – Slow maneuverability, light plastic hulls, basic electronics. For calm lakes and learning.

Mid-Level – Faster speeds, fiberglass hulls, more controls. For large ponds and improving skills.

High-Performance – High speeds, race quality. Advanced users only. Requires regular maintenance.

3. Assess the Power System

RC boats today primarily use electric or gas/nitro powered motors. Electric is easier for beginners since there’s no maintenance beyond battery charging. Nitro offers higher speeds but requires tuning the engine. And gas engines are uncommon now due to noise and complexity.

4. Evaluate Size and Scale

Larger models can go faster, but smaller ones are easier to transport and control. Micro models under 12 inches are great for pools and bathtubs. Models over 30 inches perform best in open water. Scale boats aim for realistic proportions and details.

5. Determine Needed Features

Consider which controls and functions you require:

  • Speed control – Essential for adjusting throttle.
  • Steering – Precise directional control is a must.
  • Trims – Help adjust angle while running. Useful for fine tuning.
  • Telemetry – Data on speed, battery level, etc. Not necessary for casual use.

6. Set a Budget

RC boats range from under $100 for basic models up to several thousand dollars for advanced racers or large scale replicas. Set a budget to narrow down the selection. Remember to factor in batteries and other supplies too.

Frequently Asked Questions When Picking the Best RC Boats

1. what is an rc boat.

An RC boat is a model boat that is controlled remotely using a radio transmitter. The transmitter sends signals to a receiver inside the boat, which controls the steering and speed. This allows you to maneuver the boat without physically being on board. RC boats are powered in various ways, with electric motors being the most common nowadays.

2. What are the main components of an RC boat?

The core components are the hull/body, a radio transmitter, receiver, electric motor, steering system, and rechargeable battery pack. Racing boats may also have a rudder, propeller, and trim tabs for adjustments. The hull provides the floating structure, while the electronics allow remote control.

3. How fast can RC boats go?

Speeds vary widely depending on the size, motor, and type. Toy-grade RC boats reach about 5-10 mph, while high-performance racing boats can exceed 50 mph. Gas-powered models are generally faster than electric ones. Boat length also impacts top speed, with larger hulls able to go faster.

4. Where is it safe to run an RC boat?

Calm bodies of water like lakes, ponds, and pools are ideal. Rivers can work if the current isn’t too strong. Larger areas like bays allow high speeds. Avoid boats and swimmers. Never run in stormy/wavy conditions. Follow all local boating laws.

5. How long does the battery last?

Run time depends on the capacity of the battery pack. Entry-level battery packs may only last 10 minutes, while higher-capacity LiPo packs can provide 30+ minutes. Running at high speeds drains batteries quicker. Have spare charged packs to extend time.

6. How far can the boat be from the transmitter?

Most entry-level RC boats have a range of 50-100 yards. Higher-end models boast up to 500+ yard ranges. Shorter ranges reduce interference but limit operating distance. Line of sight between transmitter and boat is important.

7. What maintenance is required?

Electric RC boats have minimal maintenance beyond battery charging. Nitro/gas models need more care including engine tuning, air filters, starter boxes, and fueling. Always fully dry boats after use and fix any leaks or damage.

8. Can RC boats be used for fishing?

Yes, some anglers use specialized RC fishing boats to carry lines and bait into hard-to-reach areas. The boats can tow fishing gear far out on the water. Just make sure the boat has the power and stability to handle the load.

9. How much does an RC boat cost?

Prices range widely from $30+ for basic toy models to $1,000+ for advanced racers. However, $100-$300 gets a good entry-level hobby-grade boat. Ready-to-run kits minimize initial costs. Expect to pay more for larger sizes and more functions.

Final Thoughts

No matter what type of RC boat you ultimately choose, make sure to follow proper safety precautions. Always operate your boat in open areas away from swimmers, use caution around docks and boats, and be aware of weather conditions. With the right boat and a bit of practice, RC boating can provide hours of enjoyment. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing way to spend a weekend or a competitive hobby, RC boats are a great choice that can provide a lifetime of fun.

Table of Contents

Buying guide for best rc boats.

If you love boats but don't have the budget, inclination, or lake for a full-sized vessel, an RC boat might be just the thing to provide hours of fun.

You'll find a huge range of makes and models on the market, though, so picking the best RC boat for your fun on the water can present a challenge. Sailboat or scale boat? Fuel or battery? Monohull or hydroplane? The choices can seem overwhelming, especially to those new to the hobby. Luckily, if you take a few key factors into consideration, you'll be able to pick out just the RC boat for you.

remote control boats yacht

Types of RC boats

Rc sailboats.

RC sailboats have sails and rudders, just like real sailboats. They're not powered by batteries or fuel. Instead, they have a simple receiver, which allows you to turn the sails and rudder using your remote control. So, essentially, these boats are powered by the wind. The great thing about sailboats is that they're low maintenance, as there's no engine, batteries, or fuel to worry about. They're quite different to drive compared to other types of RC boats, and you may find it tricky at first, but many people enjoy driving RC sailboats, especially those with experience sailing full-sized boats.

RC power boats

RC power boats are a bit like remote control speed boats. They're streamlined, speedy, and one of the most popular types of RC boats. You'll find two subtypes of RC power boats: racing boats and sport boats. Racing boats are extremely fast and can be difficult to maneuver, especially when you're starting out. Sport boats are a little slower, so they're better for beginners, or for recreational users who care about more than just speed. Most RC power boats are battery-powered, but some run on gas or nitro.

Scale RC boats

Scale RC boats are for the history fanatic or ship enthusiast. Essentially, they're remote controlled, scale models of real ships. They're not designed to be the fastest RC boats on the water – instead they're more about appearance and how realistic they look.

Considerations for selecting an RC boat

Power options.

Apart from sailboats, which are wind-powered, most RC boats run on either batteries, nitro, or gas. But what's the difference, and which power option should you choose?

Battery pros:

RC boats that run on batteries are easy to operate and maintain.

With batteries, there's no need to keep spare fuel and refill a fuel tank, which can be inconvenient and messy.

Battery-powered RC boats are very quiet.

You can use battery-powered RC boats indoors as well as outdoors.

Battery cons:

Battery-powered RC boats can't run for long periods of time before you have to recharge.

Most people who use battery-powered RC boats choose to carry extra batteries with them, which can be expensive to purchase.

Nitro pros:

RC boats powered by nitro are extremely quick and responsive.

It's easier to fine-tune the performance of RC boats that run on nitro.

As long as you have more fuel, you can run your nitro-powered RC boat for as long as you like.

Nitro-powered RC boats are faster than comparable gas and battery-powered models.

Nitro cons:

RC boats that run on nitro are probably the hardest to maintain.

Due to fumes, you can't run nitro-powered RC boats indoors.

Nitro fuel is fairly expensive to purchase.

Nitro-powered RC boats are fairly noisy.

If you like scale boats, you might be interested to know that gas-powered RC boats are often available in slightly larger scales than other models.

Gas is a relatively inexpensive fuel to buy.

RC boats powered by gas are generally easier to maintain than nitro-powered vehicles.

Gas-powered RC boats tend to be slower than comparable nitro and battery-powered options.

RC boats powered by gas can be expensive to purchase.

You can only use gas-powered RC boats outdoors.

The hull type of your RC boat is one of the main factors that affects its performance, so it's important to pick the right one for your boating conditions.

Monohulls are boats with single, V-shaped hulls. Monohulls are quick, maneuverable, and retain stability in rough water. This is by far the most popular hull type.

Catamarans have a larger hull footprint than other types of boat. This is due to the two sponsons, one attached to each side of the hull. This gives them increased stability in average conditions, though they don't stand up well to rough waters. They're also slower than monohulls, due to increased drag.

Hydroplanes have hulls that look like a two-pronged fork. They're designed for oval racing, which means that they're not great at turning left, so they're not good multipurpose RC boats.

Ease of use

You don't want to buy an RC boat only to realize that it's near-impossible to control. As such, you should look for a model with a simple, intuitive remote control that's easy to operate. If you're just starting out, don't run before you can walk – look for an RC boat that's geared toward beginners. There's plenty of time to upgrade once you've learned the ropes.

Think about how important speed is to you in an RC boat. You can find boats with top speeds of anywhere between 5 and 50 mph, or even faster. Even if you've got a true need for speed, we wouldn't recommend too fast an RC boat if this is your first time driving one. The faster your boat is, the more difficult it will be to control. Beginners should probably stick to boats with a maximum speed of no more than 20 mph.

RC boat prices

Inexpensive.

You can find basic RC boats starting around $15 to $30 . However, they don't tend to be of the greatest quality, and they’re more like toys than serious RC vehicles.

Mid-range RC boats usually cost between $30 and $100 . You can find some excellent boats in this price range, especially at the higher end.

Expect to pay from $100 to anywhere up to $2,000 for a high-end RC boat. The most expensive models are professional racing quality. Those at the bottom end of the price range are more than enough for most hobbyists.

Check whether your chosen RC boat requires assembly or adjustments. If you see the term "RTR" in the product description, that means “ready to run.” I.e., the boat doesn't require any assembly.

Find out whether spare parts are easily available. You may need to repair your RC boat at some point, but if you can't find spares, you'll need to replace the whole boat.

  • Look at the range of your chosen RC boat. This is how far away it can travel from the remote control while still receiving its signal.

Q. Can children use RC boats?

A. Most RC boats have a recommended age range, and those designed for adults aren't generally recommended for children under 14. This can vary, however, so check the age limit on your chosen RC boat. That said, you can also find RC boats designed for use by children. These tend to be slightly slower and easier to control.

Q. How do I recharge by RC boat's batteries?

A. With most battery-powered RC boats, you have to remove the battery to recharge it. However, you can find a handful of models that let you leave the battery in place and charge it using a USB cable that goes straight into the boat.

Q. How should I store my RC boat when it's not in use?

A. When it's not in use, keep your RC boat somewhere dry, where it's not exceptionally hot or cold. If you won't be using it again soon, take the battery out and store it separately to avoid leaks.

Remote control boats have gained popularity in recent years, and it is no surprise. The technology and design that goes into making remote control boats have drastically improved, piquing the interest of many RC enthusiasts.

Many remote control boats claim to be the best, but how do you know if that’s true? Well, that’s why we’re here.

We’ve done the hard work for you. We’ve compiled a list of the best remote control boats of all sizes and price ranges so that you don’t have to spend hours searching the web to find quality reviews; we’ve got them right here!

First on our list is the Altair AA102 remote control boat. It is a little pricey, but for a good reason. Altair makes a variety of remote control vehicles, so the AA102 remote control boat is a great remote control boat to have.

Its top speed is 30/kmh or 19mph, and it has a 390 brushed motor. The hull is designed not to capsize so that it can be used in pools, lakes, and creeks. When the boat flips over, turn the wheel of the remote control to flip it back over. This makes taking hard turns fun because you know the boat can get turned back upright quickly.

If the boat gets too far away, there is an out-of-range alarm that sounds to let you know the boat is getting too far away to respond to the remote control. There is also a low battery alarm letting you know to charge the batteries. The two lithium-ion batteries are included, charged, and ready to go right out of the box.

The frequency of the remote controls your boat only. This means you can race with other boats, even boats that are the same model as the Altair AA102. The total drive time of the batteries is 20 minutes, with each battery providing 10 minutes of drive time.

  • Easy to use
  • Batteries included and rechargeable
  • Anti-capsize design
  • No interference with other RC vehicles
  • Reverse difficult to use

The DEERC H120 remote control boat has a 4-channel 2.4 GHz remote with a range of 150 meters or nearly 500 feet. The two batteries will power the motor and accelerate it to 20mph. The two lithium-ion batteries can be recharged with the included USB charger. The fully charged batteries give you 16 minutes of drive time (8 minutes each for each battery).

The design of the boat has an anti-capsizing hull with capsize recovery. This means if your boat capsizes, you can easily flip it back over with the remote. There is also a motor cooling system so that the motor does not become overheated as it runs. The motor will not run until it senses contact with water. This means you can’t accidentally turn the motor on and overheat it or damage it on a dry or hard surface.

When the batteries are low, there is a low battery alarm that sounds and indicates that the batteries should be charged. The charging time for the batteries is just two hours.

  • Great design
  • Safe operation; only works in water and motor cooling system
  • Capsize recovery
  • Short battery life

The Pro Boat Blackjack Catamaran remote control boat is made for those who want a remote control boat to replicate the catamaran racing boats that are frequently shown on TV. Its design, stability, and high speed make it a great option to replicate those racing boats that you see on TV.

It can reach speeds of 30mph, making it one of the fastest remote control boats on the market today. To keep it balanced and stable, there is an offset rudder system at the stern of the boat, so you don’t have to worry about the boat coming out of the water.

The electronics are all waterproof, so you can rest assured that the electronics on the boat are safe and protected. There is also a built-in drain plug to drain any water that gets into the boat as it is being used.

The only downside to this boat is that it will need two lithium-ion or NIMH batteries along with a battery charger and 4 AA batteries. These are not included with the boat.

  • Design replicates catamaran racing boats
  • High speeds
  • Rudder system keeps the boat stable and balanced
  • Batteries not included

MOSTOP HJ806 Remote Control Boat

MOSTOP HJ806 Remote Control Boat

Although it’s a little pricier than other models, the MOSTOP HJ806 remote control boat has features and functions that make it worth it.

The motor of this remote control boat is more rugged and tough than the rest. The high-speed motor is magnetic and twice as strong as the motors that are typically used in remote control boats. This means the boat can power over waves, wake, and strong currents easily without resistance.

The features of the MOSTOP HJ806 include reverse sailing, ship resetting, and an automatic shut off when the ship leaves the water. All of these features help the remote control boat function to its maximum and safest potential.

The radiofrequency allows for multiple players to use their boats without fear of interfering with one another.

The hull of the ship has a double waterproof enclosure to ensure that water doesn’t get into the motor or the hull to damage or sink the boat. The hull is also made of tough material that is resistant to cracks after colliding with an object or another boat. There is a water circulation cooling system that will extend the life of the motor so that it doesn’t overheat as it is being used.

A low battery alarm lets you know when the boat needs to be recharged. This keeps you from stranding your boat in the middle of the water if the battery dies; you know exactly when to bring it back to recharge. There is also a weak signal alarm that beeps when you are getting out of range. Just like the low battery alarm, this tells you to bring the boat closer to you so that the boat doesn’t get so far away that it can’t respond to the frequency signals.

  • Functional design made out of quality materials
  • Alarms for low battery and low signal
  • Strong motor
  • More expensive

FT016 Submarine Racing Speedboat (18.9”)

FT016 Submarine Racing Speedboat

The FT016 remote control boat is 18.9” long, but there are two additional models you can choose from if you prefer a bigger size. There is a 25.5” and 31.5” speedboat you can choose if you want something bigger. Just be aware that the price jumps pretty substantially when selecting a bigger size.

For the 18.9”, it is affordable, fast, and durable. The maximum speed tops out at around 20mph, and the motor is protected by an air circulation cooling system so that the motor doesn’t overheat as it is used.

The hull is made of ABS thermoplastic and gold powder so that it can withstand impacts on the water. You don’t have to worry about the hull of the boat getting damaged after just once impact. This also ensures that the boat won’t chip off during those impacts as well.

There is a flip-correction mechanism that will turn the boat back over on top of the water in case it becomes capsized. You can easily correct the boat using the remote instead of having to enter the water to fix it.

There is one pre-charged lithium-ion battery and a battery charger included with the boat so you can unbox and go.

  • Hull should not crack or scratch
  • Flip-correction mechanism to turn boat upright again
  • Only one battery instead of two

Udirc Venom High-Speed Remote Control Boat

Udirc Venom High-Speed Remote Control Boat

Another affordable remote control boat on our list is the Venom high-speed remote control boat by Udirc.

Although it is affordable, it only has a top speed of 15mph, making it one of the slowest on our list.

The hull is made of ABS thermoplastic, and it is anti-tilt, water-cooled, and features a single propeller 370-size motor. The hull also has a self-righting feature that will correct the boat when it capsizes so that you can continue playing.

The boat includes one lithium-ion battery and a charger. There is a low battery alarm that lets you know when you need to charge the boat.

It is important to know that when you charge the boat, you need to make sure the boat is completely dry. Water can get into the battery area and cause the battery to malfunction if it tries to charge while wet.

  • Self-righting feature to correct the boat if capsized
  • Low battery alarm
  • Lithium-ion battery and charger included
  • Only one battery shortens the playing time and lessens the overall speed of the boat

Traxxas M41 Catamaran Remote Control Boat

Traxxas M41 Catamaran Remote Control Boat

This catamaran remote control boat by Traxxas has quickly become a fan favorite. If you want your remote control boat to go fast, it doesn’t get much faster than this one.

The Traxxas catamaran remote control boat can go over 50mph when using a 65 lithium-ion battery. Unfortunately, the 65 lithium-ion battery is not included, so you will have to purchase this separately if you want the boat to hit those kinds of speeds.

What is included with the boat is a remote control transmitter that has model memory so you can adjust your speed and stability. You can also purchase the Traxxas Link Wireless Module that you can use with your smartphone to make adjustments directly in the app. You can time your intervals and record your speed, all within the app.

Traxxas has included a stability-management feature in this boat so that the boat always stays glued to the water and in a straight line if it feels it is getting off course and losing control.

All of the equipment on the boat is sealed so that water cannot enter. There is a flex cable to keep all of the motor components in place for easy removal if you need to service it.

  • Exceptionally fast
  • Model memory to easily adjust speed and stability
  • Stability-management feature
  • Durable quality and design

Pro Boat Recoil 17” Remote Control Boat

Pro Boat Recoil 17” Remote Control Boat

The 17” Recoil boat by Pro Boat features a deep V-shaped hull which gives the boat increased stability on the water.

The boat can reach speeds of 25mph, has a self-righting feature that will keep the boat from staying belly-up if it capsizes, and an aluminum rudder with stainless steel trim tabs. The propeller has two blades that are composite-molded.

There is a low battery alert that will beep when the battery in the boat is low and needs to be charged. It includes one lithium-ion battery and one charger. The lithium-ion battery included with the boat gives it about 15 minutes of run time with a top speed of about 25mph.

You will need two AA batteries for the controller.

  • Self-righting feature
  • Quality design
  • Requires two AA batteries for the controller

Choosing the Best Remote Control Boat

Sure, you can search for a remote control boat and buy the first one that comes up and will likely have an RC boat that works, but it will likely be a risk that you shouldn’t have to take. Not all remote control boats are the same, especially if you will be using your remote control boat in a body of water that has a current.

The last thing you want to happen when you place your RC boat in the water is to have it drift away because the boat you chose doesn’t have a motor equipped to push through currents or moving water.

To help you throughout the buying process, we have assembled a list of conditions to consider so that you can choose the remote control boat that has the right features and equipment that you need.

Before anything else, you need to know where you will be using your boat. This is why we have put it first on our list. This will set the stage for the type of boats you need to look for and the type of boats you need to steer clear of.

If the water in which you will be placing the boat will have a current or wake, like a creek, river, or ocean, you will need to choose an RC boat with a strong motor. If the water is calm, like a pool or a pond or small lake, you can choose a remote control boat with a lighter motor.

It’s important to understand that a remote control boat in a pool, pond, or small lake can still have a strong motor. Just because you are using the boat in a calm body of water doesn’t mean you can’t have an RC boat with a strong motor.

It is just important to know that your boat will only be successful in water with strong currents or waves if it has a strong motor that will power through that kind of resistance.

Remote control boats come in all different shapes to replicate real, full-size boats. There are catamaran, v-hull, deep v-hull, and pontoon hulls. The hull shape you choose will contribute to how easily the boat will be to capsize and how easily the boat will be to recover (turn upright) if capsized.

Many remote control boats come with an anti-capsizing feature that allows the boat to be quickly and easily recovered if capsized. This is an important feature to look for when choosing an RC boat because you don’t want to have to rescue your boat from the middle of the water if it can’t flip back over. Additionally, if the boat is flipped over for too long and the deck of the boat is not properly sealed, water may enter the boat and damage the components inside.

Battery Type and Life

Remote control boats will have a power source that typically comes from a battery. Before settling for a remote control boat, take a look at the battery it requires and the life of the battery.

The type of battery that the remote control boat uses can determine the speed and total playing time of the boat. For example, two lithium-ion batteries will double your speed and run time of the boat, whereas one lithium-ion battery will give you a slower boat with shorter playtime.

Some remote control boats can support upgraded batteries that make them go faster and play longer. If you are interested in making upgrades to your boat, see if the remote control boat can support upgraded batteries or additional battery packs.

Remote Control

Most remote controls come with a frequency that only the RC boat can recognize and respond to. This means multiple boats can race without worrying about interference with one another on the water.

Make sure the remote control of the boat has authenticated that multiple boats can be used in conjunction with one another without interfering.

The remote control should also be easy to use and have an alarm that sounds when the battery is low, or the boat is out of range. This will keep you from having to enter the water to retrieve a boat that has become a sitting duck in the water.

The remote control should also have an anti-capsizing feature on the boat for you to quickly and easily rescue the boat straight from the remote with a simple action on the controller. The boat should be able to turn right-side-up if becoming capsized.

Many remote control boats come with a feature that will cause the motor of the boat to shut off if it is not in contact with water. This prevents the motor from overheating or burning itself out, trying to propel the boat on a surface that it shouldn’t.

The motor of the boat should also have a cooling system that will keep the motor cool as it is run for long periods of time. The motor should be sealed off from water or waterproof so that it doesn’t become damaged when it comes in contact with water.

If the motor of the boat does not indicate that it has protection from water or an automatic shut off when it comes in contact with land or a hard surface, you will likely damage the motor and will need to purchase a new one to replace inside your RC boat. Unless you have an RC boat with an awesome hull that you want to continue using, you would probably have to replace the RC boat altogether, which can be costly.

Accessories

We have placed accessories at the bottom of the list because they shouldn’t be considered a requirement in choosing a boat, but we understand that they can influence the overall decision in which remote control boat to buy; especially if it is neck and neck between two options.

Remote control boats that have additional accessories may include upgraded battery packs, smartphone application, or additional propellers. These accessories can help take your boat from ordinary to extraordinary and should only be considered if the RC boat has met the other requirements you need for the water in which it will be used.

For example, a smartphone application won’t do you any good if the boat you have chosen is not equipped to power through strong currents or waves. This is why the body of water where the boat will be located is so important.

Remote control boats don’t have to break the bank. There are many affordable options for you to unbox and go. Just make sure the remote control boat you choose can work in the type of water you will be putting it in.

There’s no other RC boat available in this size that delivers so much power and performance, at such an affordable price.

Of course, almost every RC boat enthusiast dreams of sending a super-sized deep-V hull slicing across a lake, carving turns and soaking onlookers in a tidal wall of spray. Large size Pro Boat deep-V speed demons do just that, with spectacular style that’s like nothing else on the water. The incredible Pro Boat Impulse, with a multi-layered composite fiberglass hull, has a dynamic appearance that’s all its own — lean, sharp, and ready to make other boaters’ heads spin. Meanwhile, the fierce and fiery looks of the three-foot-long Sonicwake might also be just a little bit deceptive. Despite its 50-plus mph speed potential, the special self-righting capabilities of this large RC deep-V help make it suitable for beginners and avid model boaters alike.

The large Pro Boat RC boats you see on this page are among the fastest, most innovative, and most technically advanced marine models on the market today. They’ll amp up your excitement to eleven at your local lake, and do it without breaking the bank. All Pro Boat ready-to-run (RTR) large radio control boats arrive stunningly factory-finished and already equipped with the industry’s finest, state-of-the-art on-board electronics. How To Choose A Remote Control Boat – Buying Guide

Choosing the right remote control boat.

Deciding which is the best remote control boat to go for can be confusing and somewhat challenging, but here is a guideline of factors you need to consider that will help you make the smart purchase. The first thing you need to decide is what you are going to use it for and the features most important to you. Do you want speed? Or do you want maneuverability? If you solely want speed, then a dual-hull boat is perfect, but you want to make sure that you have access to enough space to run it. If you want maneuverability, then a single hull boat will work and will need less space.

One of the major considerations is the cost. The more powerful the boat, the higher the cost (in most cases). If you have the money to invest, then you can get a high-end boat which will last you for a long time. If you only have a little to invest, then you can still get a good-quality boat (see our list).

The last consideration is entirely your personal preference, the style of boat. Do you want bright colors which will dazzle your friends as you race through the waves or do you want something more understated and sleek?

Types of RC Boats

There are many types of RC boats to choose from. We have already talked about the speed capabilities of dual-hulled boats, but what are your other options.

The fuel is one consideration. Your main choice is between gas, nitro, and electric. Not so long ago, gas-powered boats were by far the fastest, but with advances in electric motors, you can have a speedy boat that can be recharged. Gas-powered boats are still very powerful, but they do come with the added drawback of having to buy fuel for them.

RC sailboats combine the power of an engine with the power of the wind to be propelled through the water. Most of the boats are exact scale-model replicas of actual sailboats, and the racing of these is highly contested.

You can also find warships which are capable of firing projectiles at each other.

Q: How Fast Are RC Race Boats?

For the experienced RC boat fanatic, investment in a high-end boat can result in speeds of up to 100 MPH. These are the professional boats which are used for professional racing. Looking at our list, you can see that the top speed is 50 MPH. This is extremely fast, and with a little modification, you can increase that speed to 65+ MPH.

Most of the boats on our list range from 10-25 MPH and this is pretty typical of medium-range RC boats. If you are buying a dual-hull boat, then 50 MPH is fast. If you are buying a single-hull boat, then 25 MPH is fast.

Q: How Long Do RC Boats Run?

This is all dependent on the battery which is supplied with your RC boat. If you can find a boat which can run for 30 minutes, then you are doing well. A lot of RC boats are shipped without batteries, and this allows you to invest in your own high-end batteries. If you can find a good lithium-ion battery and charger, then you can have your boat running for up to an hour. Of course, the more batteries you have, the longer you can run your boat.

Globo Surf Overview

Remote controlled boats are fun. There is no denying that. From bringing back the nostalgic feelings you had as a kid to imbuing those same feelings in your kid, an RC boat is something that everyone wants to play with. When you get your boat out on the water, you will feel like a kid again.

When people think of the best remote control boats and the speeds they go, they often think that they are out of grasp for them. A boat that speeds through the water at 25 MPH is powerful, but they are more affordable than ever. With advances in electric engines and batteries, it is getting more affordable all the time. You can also check our article for waterproof cameras,  waterproof watches ,  water shoes , fitness trackers, and a lot more.

Engines are becoming more powerful, batteries are lasting longer, and materials are becoming tougher and more affordable. It has never been a better time to buy the best RC boat. With the information and products on our list, you will be able to make an informed choice and pick out the boat which is right for you. The problem is, as soon as you take it to the lake, all of your friends and family members are going to want to use it.

The very first time taking it out, you might want to take it out solo.

A long-range remote control boat is a type of remote control vehicle that allows you to explore and maneuver through bodies of water from a distance. These boats come with advanced features like high-speed engines, durable materials, and long battery lives, making them a popular choice for boating enthusiasts, hobbyists, and even professionals. A long-range remote control boat offers several benefits over traditional boats, including greater precision and control, and the opportunity to reach areas that are difficult to access on foot. As the popularity of these boats increases, so does the availability of different types and brands on the market, creating a challenge for buyers to find the one that best suits their needs. This article aims to provide a guide for anyone looking to buy a long-range remote control boat by discussing the different types, features, prices, and pros and cons of each, as well as providing tips on how to maintain and care for the boat.

Types of Long-Range Remote Control Boats

There are several types of long-range remote control boats available on the market, each with its own set of features and advantages. Here are some of the most common types:

  • Electric boats: These boats are powered by electric motors and are inexpensive to operate and maintain. They are also quieter and more eco-friendly than gas-powered boats.
  • Gas boats: Gas boats are powered by gas engines and are known for their speed and power. They are more expensive to operate and maintain than electric boats, but they offer longer run times and higher speeds.
  • Sailboats: Remote control sailboats are popular among hobbyists who enjoy the challenge of maneuvering through the water using wind power. They are typically slower than motorized boats, but they offer a unique and rewarding experience.
  • Racing boats: These boats are designed for speed and maneuverability and are used in competitive racing events. They are often made from lightweight materials and feature high-performance engines.

If you are looking for a long-range remote control boat , it’s important to consider which type of boat would best suit your needs. Electric boats are a good choice for beginners or those on a budget, while gas boats and racing boats are better suited for more experienced users. Consider what activities you want to use the boat for, such as leisurely cruising or high-speed racing, to determine which type of boat would be the most suitable for you. When researching specific brands and models, the websites of manufacturers such as Traxxas , SeaKing, and ProBoat offer comprehensive information on specifications and features.

What to look for when buying a remote control boat?

When buying a remote control boat, consider the following factors to make the best purchase:

Overall, take your time to research and consider all the factors to find the best remote control boat for your needs.

Buying Guide

When searching for a long-range remote control boat , there are several factors to consider. Here are some of the most important things to keep in mind:

  • Budget: Determine how much money you’re willing to spend on a long-range remote control boat . Keep in mind that higher-end models might offer more features and capabilities, but they also come with a higher price tag.
  • Size: Consider the size of the boat and whether it will fit in the body of water you’re planning to use it in. Smaller boats are better suited for calm waters like ponds and swimming pools, while larger vessels can handle rougher conditions like lakes and oceans.
  • Features: Decide which features are important to you. Some boats come with cameras, GPS, and other high-tech features that can enhance your experience on the water.
  • Brand: Look for brands that are known for quality and reliability. Read reviews from other buyers to gauge the reputation and performance of specific brands and models.

Additionally, it’s a good idea to research the technical specifications of any boat you’re interested in. Here’s a table with some key factors to consider:

Before making a purchase, make sure to read reviews and watch videos of the model you’re interested in to get a better idea of its overall performance. Retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy have a wide range of long-range remote control boats available for purchase, and their websites offer product descriptions, customer reviews, and specifications to help you make an informed decision.

How long is an RC boat?

An RC boat can vary in length depending on its type and purpose. Different sizes of RC boats include:

  • Small: less than 20 inches
  • Medium: 20-30 inches
  • Large: 30-45 inches
  • Extra large: over 45 inches

If you are interested in purchasing an RC boat, there are many websites that offer a range of sizes and models, such as Horizon Hobby and Tower Hobbies.

Maintenance and Care

Taking care of your long-range remote control boat is crucial to ensuring it lasts for a long time and continues to perform well. Here are some tips for maintenance and care :

  • Clean your boat: Regularly rinse your boat with fresh water to remove salt and debris that can cause damage to the motor. Use a soft cloth to wipe down the boat and remove any dirt or grime.
  • Check for wear and tear: Inspect your boat regularly for any signs of damage or wear and tear , such as cracks in the hull or damaged propellers . Replace any damaged parts to ensure the boat continues to function properly.
  • Store your boat carefully: Store your boat in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If possible, store your boat in a carrying case or bag to protect it from scratches and dings.

When it comes to cleaning your boat , be sure to use mild soap and water to avoid damaging the boat’s delicate parts. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that can scratch or damage the boat’s finish.

If you need to replace any parts, many retailers offer replacement parts for long-range remote control boats. Amazon and eBay are popular websites for purchasing replacement parts, and they offer a wide range of options for various models and brands.

It’s important to note that taking care of your long-range remote control boat is not just about maintaining its appearance, but also about ensuring it continues to function optimally. By following these maintenance and care tips, you can enjoy your long-range remote control boat for years to come.

Here are some common questions related to long-range remote control boats along with their answers:

  • How far can I control the boat from? The range depends on the specifications of the boat. Some boats can be controlled up to 500 meters away , while other high-end models can be controlled up to 1 kilometer away .
  • How long does the battery last? It depends on the battery capacity and usage . On average, a fully charged battery can last anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes .
  • Which type of boat is the most durable? The durability of the boat depends on the brand and construction materials . Boats made of high-quality materials such as ABS plastic or fiberglass tend to be more durable than boats made with lower quality materials.

How do remote control boats work?

Remote control boats work by sending signals from a controller to a receiver on the boat via radio waves. The receiver then translates those signals into actions by the motors or servos that control the steering, speed, and other functions of the boat. Remote control boats come in different types and sizes, ranging from toy boats to high-performance racing boats.

Some common components of remote control boats include:

  • Transmitter: The handheld controller that sends signals to the boat.
  • Receiver: The device on the boat that receives signals from the transmitter and translates them into actions.
  • Motor: The device that propels the boat forward or backward.
  • Servo: The component responsible for steering the boat.

Radio-controlled boats can be purchased from a variety of retailers, including hobby shops and online marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay. Some popular brands include Traxxas, Pro Boat, and Aquacraft. Before purchasing a remote control boat, it’s important to consider the user’s skill level, the intended use of the boat, and the available size and budget.

Long-range remote control boats are an excellent way to explore waterways and have fun on the water. The variety of boats available means that there is an option for every budget and preference. When choosing a long-range remote control boat, take the time to consider factors such as budget, size, features, range, and durability, as well as the reputation of the brand. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for maintenance and care to ensure your boat lasts a long time.

Overall, long-range remote control boats are a fun hobby and a great way to spend time outdoors with family and friends. Whether you’re looking for an affordable and basic model or a high-end boat with advanced features, you can find a remote control boat that satisfies your needs. Remember to check out various online resources, including reviews and forums, to learn more about the boats you are interested in and make an informed decision. Get ready for a fantastic experience exploring the waterways with your long-range remote control boat!

River Cruise on Luxurious Radisson Boat

Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.

The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.

Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.
