The new 2024 PRESIDENT P-115 Long Range Tri Deck is available with several choices of dependable Caterpillar engines to achieve the best combinations of speed, range, and fuel efficiency. With an effective cruising range of over 4,000 miles the NEW P-115 will cross oceans and put nearly any destination in reach of her owners and guests in comfort. The interior living spaces are optimized for comfortable world cruising and offer four, five, or six stateroom layouts with ample crew quarters located aft of the engine room. In recent years, a new trend has emerged among yacht builders: smaller super luxury vessels with sailing capabilities that allow us to move with more agility and have access to more marinas and piers around the world. This novel idea has paved the way for a series of models measuring 115 feet in length, which seems to be the perfect size for this new trend. Here, three 115 footers, all luxurious, athletic and charming.

Princess 35M

Princess 35M. The upper level is for leisure and includes a solarium, a Jacuzzi and a great table for more than eight guests, which can be protected by a sliding roof.

Twenty-three feet wide, the Princess 35M boasts generous outdoor spaces. The upper level is for leisure and includes a solarium, a Jacuzzi and a great table for more than eight guests, which can be protected by a sliding roof. The main level has a spacious aft deck with French doors that open to a splendid lounge decorated with leather sofas and fine wood paneling. On the lower level, you’ll find the main stateroom with panoramic views, a study, two closets and in suite, as well as other complementary cabins, a superbly equipped kitchen and quarters for the crew. From the point of view of performance, the Princess 35M has different engines; the most powerful are two MTU 16V 2000 M94 diesel engines capable of reaching a maximum speed of 27 knots.

Arcadia 115

Arcadia 115. This luxury yacht model places great emphasis on the amenities and comfort of its ten passengers and crew.

This splendid vessel— a little over 26 feet wide— with cutting edge design is distinctly modern and sustainable. This luxury yacht model places great emphasis on the amenities and comfort of its ten passengers and crew. On the upper level there is a large terrace for entertainment, a bar and a table for 8. In the interior, a stunning movie theatre with a posh U-shaped sofa faces a large LED screen. The command post below is close to a large Jacuzzi in the foredeck.

On the main level, a huge living room, a dining room with bar area, a table for ten diners and a fully equipped kitchen. The master bedroom boasts a dressing room and in suite studio. The guest quarters— all with private baths— and the cabins for the crew are also on the lower level. Arcadia, a company that offers sustainable solutions for yachts, provides alternatives such as solar panels for electricity, non-polluting materials and hybrid or electric propulsion systems, among other environmentally-friendly options.

San Lorenzo 118

San Lorenzo 118. The vessel highlights its main staterooms with hydraulic folding balconies, which increase the outdoor space and allow more expansive views.

This model is slightly longer than the others. Nearly 118 feet long and with a width of about 26 feet, its amenities are very similar to those offered by the aforementioned yachts, but San Lorenzo 118 stands out for its exterior design and more classic and conservative interior, which still manages to look clearly sporty. The vessel highlights its main staterooms with hydraulic folding balconies, which increase the outdoor space and allow more expansive views. Although the SL 118 comes with the same MTU engine of the Princess 35M, thanks to its design, it is a bit more agile with a maximum speed of 28 knots and a cruising speed of 24 knots. ■

OCEAN PEARL Yacht for Sale

OCEAN PEARL is a seaworthy long-range yacht known for her wide beam and classic Christensen lines. Recently, the vessel came out of the shipyard after having her port engine fully rebuilt. The propellers and shafts were removed, balanced and tuned to ensure a smooth ride. OCEAN PEARL won the 2007 IYBA Mega Yacht of the Year award and is considered in better condition than when she was new.

The yacht features an elegant, welcoming, and comfortable interior. The main salon and dining area have large windows on both sides, and the wood paneling and trim are of beautiful medium-dark mahogany. The California deck is fully protected with a removable isinglass enclosure and plexiglass doors leading to the side decks. The flybridge features two comfortable settee areas, a six-person hot tub, and a full-service bar with an icemaker, refrigerator, and BBQ. The boat deck area has removable chocks for a tender and two WaveRunners, and kayaks and stand-up paddleboards can be stored on top of the hardtop. OCEAN PEARL's four staterooms are almost equal in size, making for an ideal charter configuration. If desired, the master stateroom can be modified to be a full beam cabin with ensuite study.

The salon is very generous with large windows on port and starboard sides. The wood paneling and trim is of beautiful medium dark mahogany.

The salon is accessed from the California deck and serves as a comfortable entertaining and lounging area. There is a large TV, cocktail table and comfortable seating on two couches and two armchairs. 

The formal dining area is forward of the salon with seating for ten guests. To starboard is the wet bar with sink, refrigerator, wine cooler and ice maker. Forward of the dining area is a large China cabinet with ample storage.

The country kitchen style galley is on the port side main deck between the dining area and the pilothouse.

The galley is furnished with an L-shaped settee dining area, large opening windows for natural ventilation and a door to the side deck. This area has a light open and airy feel with teak hardwood flooring. This is a natural gathering spot for friends and family.

There is ample seating with a helm chair and spacious settee. Port and starboard doors lead to the side decks with steps leading forward to the crew area forward and steps to the flybridge aft.

The flybridge is accessed by the spiral staircase ascending from the California deck or from the pilothouse. There are three steering stations on this deck, port and starboard sides and at the back of the deck giving great visibility in tight spaces. The 4000lb hydraulic davit is mounted centerline at the aft deck allowing maximum reach on deck and port / starboard sides.

There are two comfortable bridge settee areas. One of the settees is protected under the hardtop and the other is on the open deck.

Just aft of the bridge enclosure and hardtop is a six-person hot tub and full-service bar with icemaker, refrigerator and BBQ. There are also lockers with extra refrigeration and freezer space.

The boat deck area has removable chocks for a tender and two Wave Runners. Kayaks and stand-up paddle boards can be stored on top of the hardtop. Once all the water toys are launched, there is plenty of entertaining space on this deck.

Cockpit, California Deck And Bow

Guests typically board at the wide integrated swim step leading into the generous cockpit. There are additional boarding gates midship on port and starboard sides giving access to the wide walk around decks.

The cockpit is a well-protected area suitable for fishing, entertaining or sunbathing. The engine room door and steps to the California deck are forward as well as larger storage lockers. There are three deck hatches allowing access to the steering gear and ample storage space.

The California deck is fully protected with a removable isinglass enclosure and plexiglass doors leading to the side decks. This makes for cool weather comfort or open shaded areas in warmer temps.

A large sun-pad and cushioned bow seat make up another comfortable gathering area for whale watching, sunbathing or sleeping under the stars.

Check out Moscow’s NEW electric river trams (PHOTOS)

Water transportation has become another sector for the eco-friendly improvements the Moscow government is implementing. And it means business. On July 15, 2021, on the dock of Moscow’s ‘Zaryadye’ park, mayor Sergey Sobyanin was shown the first model of the upcoming river cruise boat.

The model of the electrical boat with panoramic windows measures 22 meters in length. The river tram - as Muscovites call them - has a passenger capacity of 42, including two disabled seats. The trams will also get cutting edge info panels, USB docking stations, Wi-Fi, spaces for scooters and bicycles, as well as chairs and desks for working on the go. The boats will be available all year round, according to ‘Mosgortrans’, the regional transport agency. 

Passengers will be able to pay with their ‘Troika’ public transport card, credit cards or bank cards. 

The main clientele targeted are people living in Moscow’s river districts - the upcoming trams will shorten their travel time in comparison to buses and other transportation by five times, Mosgortrans stated. 

As the river trams are being rolled out, Moscow docks will also see mini-stations, some of which will also be outfitted with charging docks for speed-charging the boats.  

Moscow is set to announce the start of the tender for construction and supply in September 2021. The first trams are scheduled to launch in June 2022 on two routes - from Kievskaya Station, through Moscow City, into Fili; and from ZIL to Pechatniki. 

“Two full-scale routes will be created in 2022-2023, serviced by 20 river trams and a number of river stations. We’ll continue to develop them further if they prove to be popular with the citizens,” the Moscow mayor said .

Virginia Beach yacht, 75-foot, catches fire, 3 people on board rescued in dramatic fashion

A 75-foot-yacht off the coast of Cape Henry in Virginia Beach caught fire, forcing its occupants to jump into the water, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

Mayday call for "a recreational vessel on fire" came in around 3:30 a.m. Friday, a spokesperson of the U.S. Coast Guard told USA TODAY over the phone.

Motor Vessel Savage, a 75-foot-yacht, was on fire about two miles off the coast of Cape Henry.

Three adults who were on board the vessel jumped into the water and were later rescued by a pilot boat, said U.S.C.G.

"All three were picked up within approximately 10 minutes by pilot boats and no injuries are recorded," said the U.S.C.G.

The Virginia Beach Fire Department, assisting the Coast Guard, towed the boat to Fort Story, a military base on Virginia Beach, where it is still smoldering.

The fire department is fighting the fire from the shore, said the spokesperson, adding that the vessel is against a rock. The U.S.C.G. is also monitoring the situation, with a boat on scene.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, said the U.S.C.G.

VESSEL REVIEW | Sinichka – Electric commuter boats designed for Russia’s Moskva River

A series of three new electric monohull commuter ferries have already begun operational sailings on the Moskva River in the Russian capital Moscow.

Built by Russian shipyard Emperium, sister vessels Sinichka , Filka , and Presnya – all named after rivers in Moscow – are being operated by the Moscow Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development (Moscow Deptrans). They are the first units of a planned fleet of 20 vessels that will serve the capital city and other nearby communities. The new ferry system will be the water transport system to be operated on the Moskva River in 16 years.

Each vessel has a welded aluminium hull, an LOA of 21 metres, a beam of 6.2 metres, a draught of only 1.4 metres, a displacement of 40 tonnes, and capacity for 80 passengers plus two crewmembers. Seating is available for 42 passengers on each ferry, and the main cabins are also fitted with USB charging ports, wifi connectivity, tables, toilets, and space for bicycles and scooters. The cabin layout can be rearranged to allow the operator to adjust the distances between the seats and to install armrests of varying widths.

An open upper deck is also accessible to passengers and is the only area on each ferry where smoking is allowed.

The ferries are all of modular construction with each ferry’s wheelhouse, main cabin, and other structural elements being built as complete, separate components. This enables the ferries to be easily dismantled for transport to anywhere in Russia by rail and then quickly re-assembled within seven days.

The ferries are also ice-capable. Recently completed operational trials on the Moskva showed that the vessels can also easily navigate under mild winter conditions with broken surface ice, though year-round operations are planned for the entire fleet.

The ferries are each fitted with 500kWh lithium iron phosphate battery packs that supply power to two 134kW motors. This configuration can deliver a maximum speed of 11.8 knots, a cruising speed of just under 10 knots, and a range of 150 kilometres.

Emperium said the transfer of rotation of electric motors to the propeller is carried out by direct drive. As a propulsion installation, a pulling rotary propeller-steering column with double screws is used. The installation of double pulling screws, with similar power, allows an operator to increase the efficiency of the propulsion system to deliver a slightly higher speed or to reduce energy consumption. This arrangement also provides the ferries with enhanced manoeuvrability necessary for navigating in close quarters.

The batteries themselves have projected service lives of 10 to 12 years and are fitted with safety features such as built-in fire extinguishers and gas vents. Quick-disconnect features allow the batteries to be easily removed for replacement or maintenance.

Some of our readers have expressed disquiet at our publication of reviews and articles describing new vessels from Russia. We at Baird Maritime can understand and sympathise with those views. However, despite the behaviour of the country’s leaders, we believe that the maritime world needs to learn of the latest developments in vessel design and construction there.

Coast Guard rescues man from sinking boat 185 miles off Fort Myers coast

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A 72-year-old man was rescued by the Coast Guard Friday after they say his 40-foot sailing boat started sinking.

It happened about 185 miles west of Fort Myers. The Air Station in Clearwater spotted him in their helicopter around 12 p.m. They hoisted him up and sent him to a hospital. His condition is not known.

The man sent a distress call around 8 a.m. over the radio. He reported his position and activated an emergency position indicating radio beacon.

"Coast Guard crews were able to complete this rescue quickly and efficiently thanks to the boater having a properly registered EPIRB aboard his vessel,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Michael D. Dinapolis, Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg command center watchstander. “We encourage all boaters to adhere to safe boating in case they find themselves in an emergency out at sea, like the one we responded to today. Safe boating will increase your odds of survival no matter the circumstance.”

Speedboat dedicated to boy in remission from cancer stolen in Fort Pierce; vessel reportedly spotted in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, FLA. (WSVN) - Police are searching for two suspects accused of stealing a boat that was dedicated to a young boy battling cancer.

The family of 12-year-old Dylan, who was diagnosed with leukemia, is desperately pleading for the return of their sentimental speedboat that was stolen earlier this week.

“Return it, please. Have a heart. Just return the boat. It means a lot to our family, please,” said Peggy Botc, Dylan’s grandmother.

Dylan, a Fort Pierce resident, received his diagnosis after a traumatic brain injury at age 6. He has been in remission for four years.

“This boat, it was created for my grandson, when he had leukemia many years ago,” said Botc.

Dedicated to Dylan, the 37-foot vessel, wrapped in a vibrant vinyl, sports an orange ribbon representing leukemia awareness. The deck is engraved with his slogan “Fight Dylan Fight.”

The boat has special features to accommodate Dylan’s wheelchair and even has a special name, Deserved Therapy, representing the family’s journey through Dylan’s leukemia battle.

The family is now searching for the lost boat after they noticed it was missing from their boat storage facility.

“I don’t know how to describe it, other than my heart just dropped down to my stomach,” said David Caponas, Dylan’s father.

Fort Pierce Police retrieved surveillance photos showing subjects taking the boat away on a U-Haul pickup truck.

“I haven’t had the chance, the opportunity, to bring him on the boat yet. That’s what was killing me,” said Caponas.

Since the boat went missing, the family said, it has been spotted on the road in South Florida.

“Last night we got a tip that it was spotted in Hollywood,” said Brittni Davoudi, Dylan’s aunt. “It does still have the wrap on it, it does still have the cover on it. It was still being towed by the U-Haul, so it’s made its way down here somehow.”

Davoudi said she and an army of people are looking for the stolen boat. She is begging anyone that sees the boat to contact police.

“My nephew is a very special little boy, and he has a hard enough life. This was one thing that we could’ve gave him to see him smile, so it’s, like,very important,” said Davoudi.

The family is asking the public to contact police if they see the boat across the South Florida area and to take a photo of where they saw it.

They also have a message for the subjects who stole the boat: if they leave the boat someplace and call police, they will go pick up the boat, no questions asked.

Police looking for two men in connection to theft of 36-foot boat in Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — The Fort Pierce Police Department (FPPD) said it's looking for two men in connection to a stolen boat.

Police said on March 9, at around 10 a.m., a 36-foot fiberglass boat and trailer were stolen by two unidentified thieves in a U-Haul pickup truck from a business on Orange Avenue.

The FPPD provided photos from security cameras that showed one of the thieves. The first man is pictured wearing a pink sweater with a logo, a black jacket, and a black hat. Police said he had a beard. The second suspect is described by police as a man, wearing dark clothing, with a possible tattoo on his arm.

Police also released a photo of the boat and trailer, along with a description. The boat was covered in a blue-and-orange coral-themed wrap with the name “Deserved Therapy” printed on both sides. The boat’s original color is yellow and white, and police said the hull identification number is FJQXD101D405 .

The 2019 custom-built white trailer has three axles. The trailer’s Florida tag number is MVGD71 and the vehicle identification number is 4C9C1BU3XKB537050 .

Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival: Parade, Blessing of the Fleet and more return for 2024

The Fort Myers Beach Lions Club Shrimp Festival returns this weekend for its 66th year ― and its first since Hurricane Ian devastated the island and its shrimping industry.

The fest celebrates that enduring industry with a parade, an arts-and-crafts fair, a shrimp-eating contest, the annual Blessing of the Fleet and lots more.

"This is so important," says co-organizer Shelby Stites, a past president of fest organizers the Fort Myers Beach Lions Club. "Because it’s local pink gold. It's what made Fort Myers Beach into what it is today."

But just like the Beach changed after Hurricane Ian , the popular shrimp fest is seeing big changes, too.

The biggest: Unlike previous fests, this one will be spread out all over Fort Myers Beach and San Carlos Island. Events are scheduled at local bars, restaurants and businesses, in addition to a central arts-and-crafts fair at Bayside Park.

Erickson & Jensen Seafood ― the last major Beach shrimping company that's still standing ― looks forward to the event every year.

But especially now.

"It gathers the community," says sales manager Anna Erickson, whose father Grant Erickson co-owns and manages the company. "We need to bring people back to Fort Myers Beach. And this festival is a great way to get people down there. … It’s just a way to get the community functioning again."

The festival has been a Fort Myers Beach tradition for more than six decades.

"It’s gonna bring that positive energy to the area," Erickson says. "We're very excited about that, you know. Very excited to let people know, 'Hey, events that you've been going to your whole life, they're still going on.'"

Proceeds from the festival benefit the Lions Club's various charities. "It all goes back into the local community for those in need," Stites says.

Hurricane Ian's impact in Fort Myers Beach shrimping

The shrimping industry is closely tied to Fort Myers Beach and the rest of Southwest Florida, Stites says. That's why the fest celebrates it every year.

"When tourists come to Southwest Florida, it's to eat the local product," she says. "It’s incredibly important."

But that industry hasn't been the same since Hurricane Ian.

The island's other large, historic shipping company ― Trico Shrimp Co. ― went out of business after the 2022 hurricane. San Carlos Island is also home to smaller, independent boat owners and companies.

Erickson & Jensen had 11 boats operating in the Gulf of Mexico before Hurricane Ian. Now there are only five, says co-owner and manager Grant Erickson.  Three more are being repaired, and the other three were scrapped.

That, combined with rising diesel-fuel costs and competition from cheap, imported shrimp, has deeply hurt Erickson & Jensen's bottom line.

"We're struggling," Grant Erickson says.

But they're not quitting, his daughter says. And they’re looking for other ways to make money, including selling other products besides shrimp.

"We're not gonna give up," Anna Erickson says. "We're gritty. We're making it happen."

Changes to the Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival

This weekend's shrimp fest celebrates that perseverance and people's enduring love for shrimp ― what Stites refers to as "pink gold."

But things are a lot different this year. The fest's usual home, Lynn Hall Memorial Park, is still being repaired after Ian. The restrooms aren’t open, Stites says, and there are no utilities ready for food vendors to hook up.

"We couldn't make it happen," she says.

Then the Town of Fort Myers Beach stepped in and offered them the street in front of Bayside Park. And organizers took them up on it.

The fest's annual arts-and-crafts fair is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday between First and Third streets on Old San Carlos Boulevard. The fair coincides with the town's weekly Bayside Park Concert Series ― now expanded to two days for the shrimp fest. Live bands will perform from noon to 7 p.m.  Saturday and Sunday, Stites says.

The street in front of Bayside Park is a much smaller space than Lynn Hall Memorial Park, though, so shrimp fest organizers had to make some changes. That includes a scaled-down arts-and-crafts fair: Just 40 food and arts-and-crafts vendors instead of the usual 100.

Bayside Park will also showcase the annual Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival Queen's Pageant. Local young "princesses," ages 15-20, will compete at 1 p.m. Saturday to wear that sparkly shrimp-queen crown and for other titles, including People's Choice, Miss Photogenic, Miss Personality.

Most other shrimp fest events, however, will be moved to elsewhere on Fort Myers Beach. Here's a look at everything else happening Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10, during the Fort Myers Beach Lions Club Shrimp Festival:

Shrimp Crawl: Shrimp's on the menu at Fort Myers Beach bars, restaurants

The newest of those events is the week-long Shrimp Crawl, which replaces the usual Lions Club shrimp boil. The crawl started March 4 and continues through Sunday, March 10.

Shrimp lovers get a passport and take it to any of 16 participating Beach bars and restaurants for shrimp-themed food and drinks. Once they get at least six passport stamps, they can turn in their raffle ticket at the Lions Club T-shirt booth at the arts-and-crafts fair. The tickets will be drawn for one of more than 40 prizes donated by Beach businesses.

The idea is to give shrimp-boil fans something new and fun to do, Stites says. "We're sending them out and promoting the local economy and the shrimping industry ― which has always been the mission of the shrimp festival."

Passports are available at Tunaskin Aquatic Apparel, Erickson & Jensen Seafood and the Greater Fort Myers Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

Erickson & Jensen Seafood is providing the shrimp for the shrimp crawl, Stites says. Menu items include shrimp tacos, a Shrimply The Best Margarita, peel-and-eat shrimp, grilled shrimp, shrimp bisque, shrimp-and-crab gumbo, a shrimp po'boy and more.

Shrimp fest parade and Matazanzas Bridge closing

The two-hour Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival Parade starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and travels about two miles along Estero Boulevard from Fort Myers Beach Elementary School to the base of the Matanzas Bridge.

To prepare for the parade ― and also a 9 a.m. 5K run ― the Matanzas Bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. to noon, Stites says. People can still access Fort Myers Beach from the southern end of the island, though.

Her tip: Get there early if you plan to come by the Matanzas Bridge.

"Traffic starts at about 7:30," she says. "If you're not in line, you're not getting over unless it's by foot."

This year's parade features more than 40 units, she says, including Queen's Pageant "princesses" riding atop Corvettes, the dance team The Calendar Girls, law-enforcement vehicles and floats from various Beach businesses.

This will be the first parade since Hurricane Ian, so Stites says they're not sure what the turnout will be. But it’s usually busy.

"It's normally thousands," she says. "I have no idea what to anticipate this year. But it is a sea of people. So rows and rows of people along Estero Boulevard."

Beach Talk Radio will broadcast live and stream video of the parade on its website and Facebook page, she says.

Blessing of the Fleet at the FMB shrimp docks

A big part of the annual shrimp festival is the Blessing of the Fleet, where a St. Raphael's Episcopal Church priest blesses the shrimp boats at the Fort Myers Beach docks.

The Blessing of The Fleet usually starts with a traditional church service at St. Raphael's. But this year, that 10 a.m. Sunday service moves to a tent at the Erickson & Jensen Seafood shrimp boat docks.

Then, at 11 a.m., there will be a dedicated service just for the shrimp fest. "He'll say prayers," Stites says. "They'll sing songs. It’s a short, 30-minute service."

After that, the Reverend Michael Rowe walks out to the Erickson & Jensen shrimp boats with holy water and palm fronds, and he blesses each one.

"The important thing about that is he's blessing the three boats that they've got running, as well as the boats that they have not gotten up and running yet," Stites says. "Everything's getting blessed, in hopes of getting everyone back in order."

Following the blessing, people can take part in a Pink Gold Shrimp Celebration at noon, including shrimp to eat (10 shrimp for $10), beer, Blessing of the Fleet T-shirts for sale and 50/50 raffle tickets.

Anna Erickson says her family's company loves hosting the annual event.

"It's just a great tradition," she says. "People love it. The shrimpers love it. It makes them feel valued by the community. It’s an all-around positive thing to do."

Shrimp-eating contest

The 2024 shrimp-eating contest would've been the 10th-annual event, Stites says, if you include the years the shrimp festival has been canceled due to Hurricane Ian and COVID.

This year's shrimp-eating contest moves to the restaurant The Whale, where 10 participants compete at 2 p.m. Sunday to down the most peeled, boiled shrimp they can. All they get to eat with it is water and cocktail sauce.

"It’s whoever can eat the most shrimp in eight minutes, or whoever finishes three pounds of shrimp first," Stites says. "They're pre-peeled, so they don't have to do anything but shove'em down."

This year's contest includes the return of initial champion Carl Cius, who won the eating contest for three years in a row starting in 2015, Stites says. Cius couldn't be reached for comment.
