The 2023 Newport Beach to Cabo San Lucas had staggered starts on March 10 and 11 for the 800nm course from Newport Beach, CA to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. Here’s an update from their blog:

From the RC RC Headquarters – March 14 @ 12:38PM – RIO 100 finished at 0931hrs this morning to be the first to finish monohull. Congratulations to Manouch and the crew. ————- From the RC NHYC Cabo Race – March 13 @ 11:03PM – Dinghy racing tactics used by NHYC Sailor Charlie Ogletree over 800 NM proves keep your boat between the competition and the finish line. Beating their fellow MOD 70 by 2 hours, Charlie credits his extensive Lehman 12 training and racing as to why they won tonight. Charlie said ” keep your boat in their way of the finish line. Words to live by! Congratulations go to NHYC Member Charlie Ogletree and the crew of Argo, “Well Done”. First to finish and winner of ORR-MH ————- From the RC RC Headquarters – March 13 @ 09:33PM – TODAY, just seconds before 5:50 PM PDT, ARGO in 2D 14h 55M FINISHED FIRST in the ORR-MH Class. The Orion/ Argo match race lasted for 800NM and winning came down to selecting an outside or inside line to the finish in the last 20 NM. Once again Cabo Falso plays a role in how boat’s tactics complete their finish just ahead of their competition. Orion is just behind but played a huge role in attempting to upset Argo in this year’s first to finish attempt. Great to have the MOD70 multihulls in attendance and it goes to show how difficult this race course can be. ————- From the RC RC Headquarters – March 13 @ 01:15PM – By eMail report from the boat at 0800 this morning, Monday 3/13: Ramble On, a Beneteau First 44.7 has retired due to gear-failure. Ripped spinnaker and ripped mainsail has forced retirement. The crew is 100% ok. Their current plan is to get to Cedros Island and make repairs in the lee. The boat may consider sailing on to Cabo or to head north to Ensenada. Pursuant to the Sailing Instruction, the boat will continue to report their 0800 position daily until in a BCS port or in Ensenada. ————- From the RC RC Headquarters – March 12 @ 06:33PM – By Satellite Telepone report at 1523hrs on Sunday, March 12, 2023:

Hollywood Down Under satellite telephoned the NHYC RC at 1523 hours (UTC-7) stating they have an alternator/generator issue rendering house batteries to drain below safety limits. The have elected to retire from the Cabo Race to prevent a safety issue from occuring. All crew are reported safe and the boat is returning to San Diego. We will monitor their progress on the uphill return path and will also recieve a position report at 0800 Monday AM if not already in port.

How Do I Charter a Live Aboard Yacht?

There are a few key steps you need to follow when thinking about booking luxury Live Aboard yacht charters:

• Think about where you want to go around Los Cabos, La Paz, or Baja California Sur.
• Narrow down your requirements. What is your budget? How many people do you want to invite? Do you want adventure, romance or both?
• Get an idea of the type of yachts you like.
• Let the VIP booking expert find you the most suitable yachts, and pick your favorite.
• Start planning: the booking professional will arrange your itinerary and any other details.

How Much Does It Cost for Live Aboard Yacht Charters?

You’ll usually see two rates for charter yachts: the high season and low season rate. But that’s not all that you need to budget for. You need to factor in:

• The running costs of the charter, which usually ends up being 25-30% of the charter depending on your group and itinerary.
• It’s called the Advanced Provisioning Allowance.
• IVA or local cruising taxes, that can vary from 0% to 22%.
• Delivery costs and/or redelivery cost, if you want to charter the vessel away from her home port area of Cabo San Lucas or far from current bookings in place. This doesn’t always apply, so check with our VIP Live Aboard professional at [email protected] .
• A security deposit. This is mainly requested if an event is part of Live Aboard yacht charters standard. However, depending on the make-up of the group, we will require this on the contract due to high demand.

What is the Advanced Provisioning Allowance?

Advanced provisioning allowance (APA) is the extra fee that you pay in advance to cover the cost of provisions for Live Aboard yacht charters. It helps to think of the advanced provisioning allowance as like opening a petty cash account for your captain and chef, because it’s the simplest way of tracking charter expenses while you’re on board.

The APA allows the Captain and Crew to fully prepare and customize the experience to exactly how you want to live on board. A “preference sheet” will be prepared in detail between you and your bookings professional and sent to the Captain in good time for him to prepare the yacht for your arrival.

The captain will oversee all the purchases made before and during your charter. He will be responsible for ensuring the crew stay within budget and will provide receipts and expense accounts upon request. All expenses will be charged at cost and at the end of your charter you’ll receive an itemized breakdown of all expenditures.

How should I interact with the crew?

The crew are very skilled at making sure everything is shipshape. However, they always appreciate it when guests take their morning coffee on the sundeck, for example, as it gives them a chance to make sure your stateroom is made up and ready.

What happens if I have a problem?

Every member of the crew wants you to have the very best experience. But if you have any questions or concerns, a quick chat with the Captain is the best thing to do.

Are any areas off-limits?

Please don’t enter the crew areas without permission. The Captain or host/hostess will give you a safety briefing upon embarkation, which will go over how to stay safe on board. For your own safety, take the time to familiarize yourself with all the information provided about lifejackets and the lifeboat drill.

Do I have to take my shoes off?

Please make sure you’re barefoot or wearing socks during the charter or bring slippers. Decks are notoriously fragile and dents and scuffs on the well-polished wood or stains on carpets are a big no-no. Similarly, street shoes can damage a yacht’s antique carpets or custom flooring. Our crews will provide a shoe basket at the end of the gangway to keep your favorite shoes safe.

What luggage should I use?

Soft luggage that can be easily folded up and stowed away is the best option for packing. That’s because although guest staterooms are beautifully designed, storage is always an issue. Hardshell luggage is difficult to store at the best of times.

Where and when do I need to pay the APA?

The APA of 30% is due at the same time as your final charter payment, so roughly one month before you set sail. The transfer is made directly to Cabo Yacht Life so you’re in the best of hands. Your Live Aboard yacht charters bookings professional will provide all the necessary bank details ahead of time.

What happens if the APA doesn’t cover all expenses?  

Live Aboard yacht charters cost estimation is fairly accurate, but there’s always a chance that you might decide to blow the budget while at sea. Should your outgoings exceed the initial payment, you can top up the APA in cash while you’re on board, or by wire transfer to the Cabo Yacht Life U.S. bank account or other payment options. The captain will keep you updated throughout the trip, and if there are any outstanding costs, you’ll need to settle up before disembarking.

What if we don’t use the full APA?  

If there’s any credit remaining on the APA account at the end of the charter, the captain will communicate with the bookings and accounting departments to issue a refund. You will receive the outstanding balance after you leave the yacht by wire transfer or your preferred method within five working days after the charter.

Yes. When it comes to luxury Live Aboard yacht charters, the APA is usually applied as standard. Simple and straightforward, the APA is the easiest way to keep track of your outgoings while at sea.

The “Attessa IV” arrives in Los Cabos, the luxury yacht worth 250 million dollars

In the port of Los Cabos, the “Attessa IV” stands out, a luxurious yacht valued at 250 million dollars, with its own spa and helipad

Los Cabos.- Last weekend the ”  Attessa IV  ” arrived at the port of Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, a large  luxury yacht  valued at  250 million dollars , considered one of the most expensive vessels of its kind in all the world.

The ostentatious yacht, which belongs to billionaire  Dennis Washington , stands out for its large size that even has a helicopter, which undoubtedly represents a spectacle on the docks of  Los Cabos .

The luxury of the Attessa IV

The ”  Attessa IV  ” has 2,600 square meters of usable space, and is capable of accommodating 36 guests and 21 crew members in its luxurious enclosures. 

As if that were not enough, this yacht has its own spa, a pool on the upper deck, a karaoke room, a helipad, and even an elegant gallery of works of art and glassware inside. 

The ship, which is one of the most expensive and luxurious in the world at a value of  250 million dollars , was created in 1999, and then rebuilt in 2010 by businessman Dennis Washington, with the design process in charge of his wife, Phyllis Washington. 

Since then, the “Attessa IV” has traveled through the most luxurious and exclusive ports in the world, its most recent destination being Cabo San Lucas, where it remains without it being known at the moment who is enjoying its ostentation.

About its owner, the American  Dennis Washington , it should be noted that he owns the companies  Washington Group International  and  Seaspan Marine Corporation , and has an estimated fortune of 6 billion dollars, which makes him 83 of the 100 richest men of the world, according to  Forbes  magazine. 

Undoubtedly, the arrival of the expensive yacht to the port of Baja California Sur shows the tourist reactivation that is already taking place in  Los Cabos , an important tourist destination that is visited every year by distinguished people from all over the world, a situation that was seriously affected in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
