Cruise itinerary

Arrive at Tuan Chau Marina after a 2.5-hour drive (if using our transfer). Embark on Essence Grand at noon. Enjoy a welcome drink at Cloud Nine restaurant while the cruise manager gives a short briefing about safety and cruise.

Dinner is served in the Dining on the Bay restaurant. After dinner, you can try squid fishing, playing poker, ordering a favorite cocktail from the varied menu, and watching the night scenery. Overnight onboard.

Start a new day with a Taichi session on the top deck. Enjoy light breakfast in the restaurant or in your private cabin. The next stop is Luon Cave - a tranquil area for taking a sampan boat rowed by a local.

Check out time at reception, then enjoy the brunch buffet while the vessel cruises back to the harbor. Disembarkation at around 10:45 am.

Dinner is served in the Cloud Nine restaurant. After dinner, you can try squid fishing, playing poker, ordering a favorite cocktail from the varied menu, and watching the night scenery. Overnight onboard.

Start a new day with a Taichi session on sundeck followed by light breakfast with tea, coffee, and pastries. At 8:30, Day cruise picks you up and starts cruising to Lan Ha Bay - an extension of Halong Bay. The day boat drops anchor at Dark - Bright Cave for kayaking. This is one of the most beautiful and tranquil areas in Lan Ha Bay.

A hearty Vietnamese lunch is served on the Day cruise. Take a rest while the boat continues to cruise to Ba Trai Dao Beach. Here you can sunbathe on the untouched beach or indulge in the crystal clear water of the charming bay. At 13:30, the day boat returns to Halong Bay. On the way back, drop by a local pearl farm and learn about the farming process of the pearl in Halong. The day trip ends at around 15:45 and you come back to La Siesta Superyacht to freshen up, relax in your cabin, or join onboard activities with new passengers.

A brand new dinner is served in Light House Restaurant. Free time for squid fishing, Cigar & poker house, boarding games, etc. Overnight onboard.

Luxurious boat with a bunch of modern facilities. The activities were diverse. No time to be bored during the stay. The pool was beautiful. The room was incredible. Halong Bay was amazing, although it was a bit crowded. We will suggest Essence Grand Cruise.

Great activities. Delicious food. Wonderful view. The cabin was elegant and clean. The large glass window and balcony were excellent for watching the bay. 

Me and my boyfriend were very satisfied. The trip was well organized and the activities were great. We visited a huge beautiful cave and kayaked at a calm area. The view of Halong Bay was gorgeous.

What a 5-star cruise! The interiors are new and opulent. Our cabin has a stunning view with large windows and a spacious balcony. The bed is so comfy. The bathroom is clean and well-equipped. The best thing that sets Essence apart from other places is the staff. I've been on a lot of cruises but the staff here are the best. They were very friendly and took great care of our kids. The itinerary was perfectly organized and scheduled. When we went on the trip, the pearl farm was closed but they took us to Titop Island instead. Our favorite staff member was Yang, who attended to our every need.

Do the cabins have bathtub/balcony?

Except for Ocean suite and Ocean suite triple, the remaining cabins all have private balconies of varying widths. Only the Oceania suite and Owner's suite have a private bathtub. Because we want to protect the environment, save water and reduce the weight of the ship, Essence Grand Cruise does not have too many bathtubs.

Kid's Club is open from 7 am to 11 pm. Parents can choose to freely play with their children at the Kid's club or let the cruise's staff help look after the children, while parents can freely participate in other interesting activities on the Essence Grand Cruise.

Are the drinks free? Can we bring our own drinks? What time does the bar close?

On the Essence Grand Cruise, the welcome drink is free and all other drinks cost money.  You need to pay an additional fee if you bring drinks on board.  The bar closes at 10 pm so you can enjoy a drink before then.

Be ready at your hotel and our driver with Limousine of Essence Grand Superyacht will come to pick you up at your hotel lobby (If you book the cruise together with transfer). It takes about 3 hours for a transfer from Hanoi to Halong City. We will have about 20 minutes for break on the half way and you can go to rest room or have a drink.

11:30 – 12:00: Welcome

Essence Grand Superyacht will take you to Luon Cave , which is possesses wonderful natural scenery and has a relatively diverse and abundant flora ecosystem, the cliffs are covered with green trees, there is also the habitat of conserved monkeys.

We will have sometimes here to explore Luon Cave by kayaking or take a bamboo boat ride or you can do swimming in the clear blue water

15:30 – 16:30: Titop Island – Climbing or Swimming 

Our next stop is Titop Island which is named after Soviet cosmonaut German Titop. Titop Island is the only island with the largest and most beautiful beach. Seen from above, the beach looks like a full moon embracing the island's foot. This is a very beautiful gentle beach, especially extremely clean because the high tide washes away dirt, the sand here is perfectly pure white, the sea water is clear in all four seasons.

Or if you are a fan of hiking, then you can climb 400 of extremely craggy stone steps to reach the top of Titop. However, the gift for you will not be small as the panoramic view of Ha Long Bay will catch your eye right when you are in the middle of your spectacular hiking journey.

If you prefer to stay on Essence Grand Superyacht, you can chill in your comfy suite or enroll these activities and services like La Spa (spa and massage), swimming pool, pool bar, cigar club, poker, 3D golf simulator, billiards and table soccer, library, and for children there is a kid’s club 

17:30: Sunset & Happy Hour time

The way to Sung Sot cave is hidden under the forest, the stone steps are craggy, visitors have both the pleasure of climbing and the excitement as if they are going to the sky.

We will move to Luon Cave where you can do kayaking or enjoy the free time on a sampan boat rowed by local. Luon Cave is very beautiful lagoon in Halong Bay with clean water and that is the best place in Halong Bay for kayaking or sampan boat trip. You may sometimes see monkeys going down there when you do kayaking. Incredible karst will be closed to your eyes.

15:30 – 16:30: Titop island – Climbing or Swimming 

After visiting Luon Cave with kayak or sampan boat we will move to Titop Island where you can do hiking 400 steps for panorama view of whole Halong Bay with the hight of 100 meters . That is the best place in Halong Bay to have the best majestic view for Halong Bay. Titop Island has beautiful moon-shaped beach and tranquil blue waters. So if you don’t wish to do hiking then you can do swimming in the beautiful beach.

06:15: Tai Chi on Sundeck

Tai Chi is a good way to improve our good health and Halong Bay is a ideal place for practicing Tai Chi.

If you don’t want to get up early then sleep more then just get up before breakfast.

08:00: Cruising to Bai Tu Long Bay

After breakfast, we will move from Essence Superyacht to a day boat or cruising to Bai Tu Long Bay. We will move to Thien Canh Son Cave in Bai Tu Long Bay . Thien Canh Son in English means “Heaven Scenery Mountain”. 

Our transfer boat will pick you up from Essence Superyacht for a morning cruise to Thien Canh Son Cave in Bai Tu Long Bay .

10:30 Excursion to Thien Canh Son Cave

We will visit Thien Canh Son Cav e, walking inside the limestone cave and discover the cave and the view of Bai Tu Long Bay. 

After visiting the cave we will enjoy time swimming or relaxing on a nice and white sandy beach in Bai Tu Long, do kayaking around Cong Do Island in Bai Tu Long Bay. Bai Tu Long Bay is a peaceful bay of Halong Bay and it is less touched area.

12:30 Lunch Time

Come back to our cruise and enjoy our lunch while cruising the Vung Ha area .

13:45: Visit Vung Vieng Fshing Village

We will arrive at Vung Vieng Fishing Village and visit this village with a rowing boat. You will have chance for interact with local people there and learn more about their daily life. That will be a good memory for your trip in Vietnam .

14:45 – 16:15: Cruise Back

07:30 – 08:15: Excursion to Sung Sot Cave

After breakfast, we will transfer to a speedboat for moving to Sung Sot Cave (Amazing Cave) . We will visit the beautiful cave for about 45 minutes by walking to the cave to admire the masterpiece of nature in Halong Bay. Sung Sot Cave is one of the biggest and most beautiful cave in Halong Bay. You will know why it has the name of Amazing Cave.

After visiting the cave, we will get back to Essence Grand Superyacht. Have a shower before check out the cabin.

The trip with Essence Grand was faultless. The vessel is new and modern. We love our cabin with a lovely balcony and super clean bathroom. The scenery of Halong Bay was unbeatable. You should notice that the excursions will be crowded but we were satisfied with the view. The food onboard was great and lots of it. The staff was caring and always made sure we felt comfortable. Can't recommend it enough.

A variety of activities and a nice balance with break time to experience onboard facilities. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable. Excellent meals with lots of options. Brunch was not as good as lunch and dinner but the food was overall good.

The trip was well organized from start to finish. The room was the same as the picture and the view from the balcony was fantastic. The staff was hospitable and helpful. A shout out to Mr. K and Christina for excellent service. Would recommend Essence Grand to our friends!

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

“We are thrilled to collaborate once again with Red Yacht Design on the creation of the Aluna 92,” FDC Yachts director Eyup Ozbelen said in a statement. “Together, we aim to deliver a yacht that not only exceeds expectations but also redefines the very essence of luxury on the water.”

FDC says the Aluna 92 will be the first yacht in its class capable of accommodating helicopters. The vessel features a large touch-and-go helipad on the aft deck that can welcome large choppers capable of carrying up to four passengers, meaning that it can facilitate far more elevated comings and goings than its competitors. The aft deck is also equipped with a large lounge and an alfresco dining area for open-air soirees.

Other exterior highlights include a sprawling sundeck adorned with sunbeds and an expandable beach club with direct ocean access. FDC has also opted to include see-through bulwarks on some exterior decks to provide seafarers with panoramic ocean views.

The interior is equally as spacious and luxurious. The generous cabins can sleep up to eight guests, with the lavish full-beam owner’s suite transforming into separate cabins if additional accommodations are required. Such flexibility renders the Aluna 92 suitable for charter.

“We are confident that the Aluna 92 will exceed the expectations of even the most discerning yachtsmen,” added managing partner of Red Yacht Design Faith Surekli.

Four Seasons Yachts Unveils Inaugural Itineraries to the Caribbean and Mediterranean and a First Look at its 95 Spectacular Suites

Four Seasons , together with luxury yachting company Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings Ltd, Joint Owner/Operator, Four Seasons Yachts, and venerated Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, continues to chart a new course of luxury at sea. As momentum builds towards the inaugural season of Four Seasons Yachts , the first 10 unique voyages are unveiled, each inviting travellers to make the iconic islands and hidden gems of the Caribbean and Mediterranean their playground, with meticulously designed suites that guests will call home along the journey.

A Journey Across Crystal Clear Caribbean Waters   and Magnificent Mediterranean Seas

In its debut year, Four Seasons Yachts will explore more than 130 distinct destinations across over 30 countries and territories. All itineraries are crafted with flexibility in mind, allowing guests to tailor their own adventure as they explore beyond the familiar. The team curating each itinerary understands the nuances of these locales, ensuring each experience is truly extraordinary. Enhancing itineraries are customizable with pre-and-post hotel and overland programs at beloved Four Seasons hotels and resorts.

The first Four Seasons Yacht, currently under construction in Ancona, Italy, will travel westbound as part of its repositioning and will welcome guests to set sail amid the serene turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea from January to March 2026. The first Caribbean itineraries feature seven nights of exploration through the most exciting yachting destinations including Saint Barthélemy (St Barths), Nevis, the Grenadines, St Lucia, Barbados, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Curaçao and Aruba. Destination highlights include indulging in the dazzling nightlife of St Barths, discovering Martinique’s volcanic coral reefs and lush rainforest landscapes, a marina day in St Lucia’s Tobago Cays, and much more.

With more destinations and details to be unveiled in the coming months, the first  Grand Mediterranean  voyages will begin in March 2026 and will include sailings through Croatia, Gibraltar, Montenegro, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Türkiye. The Mediterranean itinerary will also highlight the Greek Isles , with stops in Athens, Ios, Santorini, Milos, and more. Guests will explore under-the-radar islands steeped in culture and history, offering a variety of experiences that go above and beyond the ordinary of Mediterranean sailings.

Bespoke Suite Designs Focused on Comfort, Connection and Care

In collaboration with Tillberg Design of Sweden and the Yacht’s Creative Director, Prosper Assouline, the Yacht’s suite design embodies the essence of intuitive luxury, each a sanctuary of tranquillity with panoramic views, elegant interiors, thoughtful details and a residential feel that creates the sense of a welcoming home at sea.

"Our goal was to craft an environment that feels both familiar and extraordinary, with warm hues and open designs. We are creating an inviting, welcoming environment that reflects the same feeling one experiences at a Four Seasons hotel or resort," says Fredrik Johannson, Partner and Executive Director of Tillberg Design of Sweden. “At the same time, we are designing a look and feel that is unique to this project, creating an elegant yet simple interior that stands out on its own, while blending beautifully with the majestic seas that will surround it.”

With 50% more living space per guest than currently available with any competitor at sea, all suites will offer floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing sweeping sea views, double vanity bathrooms with spacious showers and closets, expansive private terraces, and dynamic use of space and light.

The Yacht’s extensive network of adjoining suites will feature an innovative system that connects accommodations with modular walls, offering numerous options of vertical and horizontal combinations within the signature suites. This versatility will unlock more than 100 different connection options and the unique opportunity to reserve an entire side of a deck, perfect for those travelling with family, friends, or larger groups. For example, this one-of-a-kind design will allow for more than 13,000 square feet (1,200 square metres) of total living space.

A New Suite Standard: Funnel and Loft Suites

The largest accommodations are seven signature suites ranging from 2,981 to 9,975 square feet (277 to 927 square metres) of indoor and outdoor living space. They offer two to three bedrooms, separate living rooms, indoor and outdoor dining space, splash pools, outdoor showers, and the option to connect to additional suites.

The premier signature suite accommodations – the Funnel and Loft Suites – both feature three bedrooms, outdoor showers, and splash pools. The largest on board, the Funnel Suite, housed within the Yacht’s glass-enclosed funnel, is 9,975 square feet (927 square metres), spanning four levels of living space. The suite’s towering floor-to-ceiling wraparound windows, made up of the largest contiguous piece of glass at sea, is a one-of-a-kind engineering feat offering stunning 280-degree panoramic views. The Loft Suite is 7,952 square feet (739 square metres) and can accommodate large group sizes of up to 20 people by connecting with seven additional suites, the largest number of connecting suites available.

When exploring beyond the comforts of their stunning suites, guests can enjoy 11 dining options, spa and wellness offerings, a state-of-the-art transverse marina, and the stern pool, set to be one of the largest in the industry at nearly 19 metres long and 5 metres wide (65 feet long and 18 feet wide). Its unique hydraulic lift design will allow the pool deck to level out, creating an expansive outdoor space for weddings, celebrations and other events.

Louis Gossett Jr. Almost Played for the Knicks Years Before His History-Making Oscar Win

Louis Gossett Jr. , the Academy Award -winning actor who died at 87 Thursday, acted on stage and on the big screen for more than six decades — but he also once starred on the basketball court.

In an interview with PEOPLE in January, the late actor recalled his winding road to Hollywood. The New York City native had already begun performing on Broadway in the early 1950s when he finished high school and headed to NYU on a scholarship. At the time, he also had hoop dreams.

The NBA's New York Knicks signed Gossett to a professional contract upon his graduation in 1958, per a profile on the actor in WGBH , but it was not long before he returned to the stage and then found his way to films.

“ I was at rookie training for the [New York] Knicks when I got a call from [playwright] Lorraine Hansberry to be a part of  A Raisin in the Sun ,” Gossett said of the original 1959 Broadway production of the iconic play, in which he starred opposite  Sidney Poitier .

When he heard about what the role paid, Gossett knew it was time to pivot. “They said the part comes with a $700 per diem, more money than most professional athletes had in the bank at the time. I put the basketball down, and the rest is history.”

A skilled guitarist, Gossett told PEOPLE his career in music suffered a similar fate. In between theater gigs, “I passed the brass playing in the coffee shops down in the Village,” he recalled. “Once I got my first acting job, I quit the [music] business.”

In the ’60s, he moved to Los Angeles and launched his film and TV career. An Emmy for his role in the seminal 1977 TV miniseries  Roots  followed. In 1983 he became the first Black Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner, for his show-stopping turn as a tough Marine drill instructor in  An Officer and a Gentleman , opposite Richard Gere.

Gossett said that he was far from the first choice for the role. "They had hired another actor who was White, but when director Taylor Hackford found out that 75% of the Marine DI's were Black, they paid him off and hired me. I went down to San Diego Marine Corps to learn for six weeks. When I showed up on set, I was a marine."

Thinking back to filming, he recalled his costar Gere struggling when they filmed their memorable mud scene together. "I remember that was a weekend. It was tough for Richard to do," he said. "But he's a great man, I like him a lot. The truth is we were all stars of that movie."

Over the next four decades following his big win for the role, Gossett continued to choose projects with a purpose, including his most-recent role as an obstinate patriarch in  The Color Purple . As for retirement, that was not in his plan. “I’m still here,” he said. “God must have something left for me to do.”

Gossett, who had been married and divorced three times, is survived by his two adult sons, Satie and Sharron.
