The Harlem Yacht Club, founded in 1883, is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the United States.  

We’ve been based here on City Island since 1894. This unique New York City community is the gateway to the cruising grounds of Long Island Sound to the east and New York City to the west.

Was at a memorial luncheon recently , I have to say the food and atmosphere was extraordinary!!!

Cute club. Very receptive to new members. Hoping the food is more consistent. Stunning waterfront views.

The Harlem Yacht Club is your cozy tucked away spot to go for a good drink with friends while enjoying the view of the city. The staff are friendly and treat you like you're a regular - extra helpful when you need and super knowledgeable. We love sitting outside with a drink by the dock with a shrimp basket, enjoying the kids learning to sail, and viewing the NYC landscape.

The HYC is the ultimate in yacht club "shabby chic"... Awesome bar with incredible views of Eastchester Bay. Kitchen is now in good hands too, after the previous steward left and has been replaced with the current one. I would strongly recommend dinner with a few friends at sunset...

You do not have to be a Member to have dinner at The Harlem Yacht Club. The Chef, Rutilio, is the best on the island. The atmosphere is friendly and cozy, the views of the sound are amazing and the bar is awesome. You can have your wedding, shower, sweet sixteen party there. The food and the decor will suit any taste and always a winner. Check it out. Store your boat there and consider joining the Harlem Yacht Club.

Recently visited with friends who are summer affiliates. Arrived at the restaurant a little bit too early for afternoon ice cream, and bumped into such a lovely young man. Turns out he speaks several languages. He was very polite insightful and funny and we all enjoyed talking with him until we realized that he worked there and we might be keeping him from checking in for his shift. Very gracious. Later we realized that he was the dishwasher. I really hope they pay these people properly. That young man should be in a leadership position somewhere. They are lucky to have him.

I had the most amazing wedding reception at the HYC last weekend. I have been to other events here and am incredibly fond of this spot. It is the perfect mix of comfortable and charming, everyone there is friendly and helpful.....and you could not ask for a more picturesque view! To top it all off, Anne Booth's food knocks it out of the park. Anne and her husband Kwon are an amazing catering duo. They were accomadating to my special requests. And quite frankly, I have never heard so many people gush about the food at a wedding before. We had a really lovely day. I can't wait to come back to have a relaxing dinner here this summer.

GREAT Venue for a party large or small! I have been to 2 parties here and when I went for dinner one night (do not have to be a member) there was a party upstairs and the room looked great! The parties I have been to, 1 had a DJ, the other did not. There was enough room to dance and the food was beyond what I expected. Good staff, clean, great view right on the water!

This is a nice place to host a party. I looked at it for my wedding and had a food tasting but decided to go with a wedding hall. The staff is friendly, the food is good, and the atmosphere is really warm. Great views of the water. They have two party rooms that are both nice for about 75 people and a dance floor. I will keep it in mind when planning smaller events and dinners. (I believe you must be a member to eat there for dinner).

We give you the knowledge and experience to be confident and safe on all your sailing adventures… Whether you charter a boat from a local harbor, go on an exotic sailing vacation, or even buy your own boat.

The CIYC Sailing School provides American Sailing Association curriculum and certification and presents an active sailing community to support you in your sailing endeavor.

Classes Offered

Learn to skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered 25′-35′ keelboat by day in moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn cruising sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather, safety and seamanship. –  $595 (plus Coursebook and ASA fees)

Instructors

Herb d’Entremont (Primary Instructor)

Herb has been sailing for the last 15 years and grew up on the water as an off-shore commercial scallop fisherman. He holds a USCG 100-ton Near Coastal captain’s license, STCW and Safety at Sea certifications, and is a RYA Yachtmaster. Herb has been fortunate enough to sailing in beautiful places like Hawaii, St. Martin, St. Bart’s, Anguilla, Antigua, Grenada, Nova Scotia and of course the USA. He has been a Club Boat and Social Member at CIYC during the last few years and races on a couple of member boats ( Eagle & Sanguine ). Herb is a certified instructor for ASA 101, 103, 104, 105, 106 and 116. 

Eduardo S. Sanchez (Associate Instructor)

Eduardo is a member of the City Island Yacht Club since 2017 and previously sailed out of the Club Nautique in Sausalito. He obtained his initial American Sailing Association certifications in 2016 and since then he has become an instructor for ASA 101, 103 and 104. He also holds a Master 50 Tons with sailing extension from the United States Coast Guard. His specialty is skippered more than 20 weekly charters throughout the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Great Lakes, San Juan Islands, Florida Keys, Long Island Sound and Martha’s Vineyard/Nantucket.

Eduardo is semi-retired from a career in the software industry where he held various executive positions and currently serves as board member in a handful of software companies. Besides sailing, he keeps fit by jogging, playing tennis, skiing and doing yoga. He also enjoys watching his native Argentina win the Soccer World Cup every few years

David Spiro (Associate Instructor)

David sails a C&C 40 which he keeps at City Island Yacht Club.  Although he is fairly new to ASA  instruction, he spent his career as a teacher at Columbia, Harvard, and the University of Arizona.  David is the CIYC Treasurer and serves on its Board of Directors. He is a certified instructor for ASA 101, 103, and 104. 

Ed Woolsey (Associate Instructor)

In 2015 Ed became a USCG Captain, 100-ton master with a sailing endorsement, and more recently a 200-ton mate of towing. He owns and operates a marine repair and marine electronics business that often takes him to Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City in New Jersey.

Ed has the following ASA teaching certifications: keelboat, basic coastal cruising, bareboat cruising, coastal navigation, docking and boat handling. Ed sails out of Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City and City Island Yacht Club where he is an active member. He teaches ASA 103, 104, 105, 106, and 118 (docking) on his boat Five Star . 

John Baum (Instructors’ Instructor)

John is a professional delivery skipper and a long time member of the club.  He is one of the few people who are certified to train and certify ASA instructors, and he runs periodic clinics at the club for ASA instructors.
