A catamaran may not be your first vessel of choice for a global expedition, but Sunreef Yachts is hoping to change that.
The Polish shipyard has just revealed a new go-anywhere multihull concept designed specifically for long-range cruising. The 164-footer is the second model in the Sunreef Explorer line, following a 125-footer that was released back in 2020.

Named simply the 50M Sunreef Explorer , the cat promises transoceanic range just like her predecessor and is likely to cover more nautical miles than monohulls of a similar size. The yard didn’t share any specs at this stage, but says the vessel will be equipped with two engines, two fuel tanks, multiple generators, two water tanks and a smart waste management system. As such, she will be able to remain self-sufficient for months on end and journey to the most remote corners of the Earth.
The infinity-style pool overlooks the ocean. Sunreef Yachts
As to be expected, the global cruiser sports Sunreef’s signature sleek silhouette and clean lines. Onboard, meanwhile, you can expect “superyacht comfort,” with six sizable staterooms, a private spa, a fitness center and an outdoor cinema with a bar. Another highlight is the aft deck, which spans the entire 47-foot beam and offers oodles of space for alfresco entertaining.
Just like any explorer worthy of the class, there will be a full arsenal of toys aboard to ensure even the most die-hard adventurers never get bored. The generous garages can accommodate diving gear, sea bobs, e-bikes, e-foils, sailing dinghies and tenders, while the cranes allow for easy launch and recovery. Naturally, every detail of the yacht’s design and equipment can be tailored to meet the requirements of her new owner.
“From mountain biking in Greenland, diving in Ushuaia, horseback riding in Galapagos or whale-watching in Newfoundland, the new Sunreef 50M Explorer is dedicated to all those who dream of expanding their yachting horizons,” the yard said in a statement .
Explorer catamaran, indeed.

Gorgeous sustainability-focused 50m yacht concept Naboo revealed
A stunning 50-metre sustainability-focused yacht concept named Naboo has been revealed!
Naboo was designed by design studio Hidden Portside and features an electric propulsion system, solar panels, and a hull made of recycled aluminum with synthetic teak decking. In other words, it’s a yacht designed for a better future.
“Naboo represents another lifestyle, in which sustainability is a mindset, preserving the beauty and elegance of the past while relying on the innovation of the future,” the studio comments.
One of the most striking features of the design is its 95 sqm inner patio connected through a lush vertical garden, as well as its 65 sqm beach bar accompanied by a Jacuzzi. Two folding platforms leading down to the sea can be found on either side of this area.
A galley or “chef’s house” can be found on the main deck, which leads down to a second galley on the deck below, in addition to an eight-metre tender garage with great space for any possible water toys that the luxury lifestyle comes with.
Four guest cabins are featured on the main deck and a master cabin at the bridge deck, which features a second Jacuzzi and a 33sqm private terrace. Naboo will be operated by a crew of eight, with the captain’s quarters on the bridge deck near the helm.
“This is the ‘starter pack’ for Naboo,” said the studio. “We are looking to offer bigger options in order to accommodate the most demanding clients.”
As the industry is becoming aware of the environmental impact, concepts like Naboo are a great sign of where the yachting world is heading.

50m/45m Ice-Class Expedition Yacht Concept by Vitruvius Yachts
Vitruvius yachts (a brand by philippe briand ) presents a new explorer yacht platform in seven different versions..
The new concept contains the typical explorer design features with open aft deck and the capabilities to transport tenders and toys including sailing yachts with standing masts, helipad or a two-level garage. But the concepts contains also a 45m crossover concept.
“Our team is driven by pushing the frontiers of yacht design,” said Philippe Briand, designer and naval architect at Vitruvius Yachts . “Of course, the needs and functions of expedition yachts, explorers and Mediterranean yachts would at first seem independent of one another. But there are clear intersections where we can create solutions that span multiple categories.”
“We understand that today’s owners want to use their yachts to host glamorous parties on the French Riviera or the Greek Islands as well as venture to remote Pacific islands or even the polar regions. In response, we have created a collection of concepts that showcases the iterations transitioning from expedition to explorer to Mediterranean yacht. It helps an owner to visualize where they would like to place their yacht in terms of capabilities across different environments,” added Briand .
1. Expedition Scientific
With a low profile like M/Y Exuma or Galileo G and space for two nine-meter tenders on the aft deck. It comes with a 50m aluminum hull or a 45m steel hull with ice-class.
2. Expedition Mediterranean
3. Expedition 2 Level Garages
4. Expedition Beach Club Garage
5. Explorer
6. Crossover
7. Med Yacht
“We are very excited by the new yacht concepts in this boundary-crossing range,” said Veerle Battiau, General Manager at Vitruvius Yachts . “The designs include varying combinations of expedition yacht features – such as a large garage, along aft deck and helipad – with the efficient hull of an explorer and the exterior leisure space, interior comforts and access to the sea of a Mediterranean yacht. The yachts break the conventional design barriers.”

50m superyacht concept by AES Yacht
A new 50-metre superyacht concept has taken shape in Turkey – and the sleek modern design is fresh from AES Yacht ’s drawing boards.
The Turkish shipyard is no stranger to radical designs, delivering the overly contoured 71-metre superyacht Victoria in 2019, styled by H2 Yacht Design and Gresham Yacht Design . Currently in-build at AES Yacht are three charismatic explorers, all designed by the Italian studio Hot Lab . The largest being the 68-metre ICE 68 , scheduled for completion later this year.
The sub-500 GT superyacht has a beam of 9-metres and promises accommodation for as many as 12 guests. She’s been designed with an abundance of outdoor living space aft, with a very generous beach club complete with a plunge pool as well as fixed and removable lounge seating.
Her main deck is protected by an overhanging canopy and is home to more comfortable seating. For alfresco dining, guests can make use of her upper deck where a large circular dining table is located. Up top on her sun deck sits a Jacuzzi and a casual area that boasts panoramic views.
The AES 50 has been presented with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. AES Yacht suggests twin Caterpillar C32 engines for a cruising speed of 11.5 knots and a top speed of 14.5 knots.

Mako – 50m
50m | 165ft
Semi Displacement
x10 guests | x8 crew
The 50M yacht ‘ MAKO ’ is being developed by ThirtyC Design. The concept provides a coherent balance between the dramatic exterior, focusing on large areas of glass and entertaining spaces with the cool contemporary, yet relaxed interior blending seamlessly throughout.
The bold statement area of glass forwards provides a full height floor to ceiling outlook, flooding the space with light, and bringing the feel of the ocean on board. The yacht has been developed with alternative layout options in mind; with either a full beam grand master cabin forward on main deck, taking advantage of the huge glazed areas or alternatively this space could be used as the main internal dining room, with the owner’s cabin moving up one deck, utilising a full private terrace area aft.
More information
In both configurations, there is comfortable external dining for ten, with bar and concealed pantry and easy access down to the aft swim platform. This in turn affords access to a full beam beach club on the lower deck, which when the transom is fully deployed provides a great lounge area, with bar and changing facilities.
The remainder of the lower deck is configured with four guest cabins, each with double stacked windows, providing superb light and views. Crew accommodation runs forward and up to the main deck above.
The Bridge deck behind the wheelhouse can be configured with either saloon area or owners cabin. The aft deck space leading from here provides the option of further exterior dining, built in sun-pads surrounded by sociable lounge seating groups. There is further access to the sun deck, which in turn can be configured in an open format, with sheltered bar area, and separate day head, or as an enclosed space with gym, day head and changing facilities. In both layouts, the forward area of the sun deck encompasses large sun-pads and Jacuzzi.
The interior design concept is being developed in association with Baldwin Harris Design, who have proven track record and experience with yachts of this size along with this style of interior.

50m converted naval ship Plan B renamed and undergoing rebuild in Australia
The 49.9-metre HMA Naval Dockyard explorer yacht JeMaSa is currently undergoing an extensive rebuild at Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard (GCCM) in Australia. Post refit, the owners intend to use the vessel predominantly in the Pacific for personal use and as a yacht for charter .
Works, which began in April and are due to be finished by March 2025, encompass new custom-built furniture on all exterior decks, a new outfit of the interior, full exterior Awlgrip paintwork and colour change and engineering works. There will also be an upgrade of navigation and communication systems on the bridge and new audio/video/network systems. JeMaSa will also complete her classification five year special survey.
Misha Merzliakov is the chosen interior and exterior designer, while Periscope's Shaun Phelps is responsible for naval architecture.
JeMaSa was built as an Australian naval ship in 1973 before being transformed into a fully-fledged explorer. Her military-style profile is owed to De Villiers Yacht Design . The former survey boat has a steel hull and a steel superstructure, a beam of 10 metres, a draught of 3.2 metres and a volume of 746GT.
Accommodation is currently for 12 guests across five cabins, including a master suite on the main deck and four guest cabins on the lower deck, with further provision for a crew of 16. As part of her refit, the yacht will receive new upholstery, wall and ceiling panels, as well as new custom beds and furniture. All guest areas will receive new marble-top bathrooms.
Based at Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard, Juan Koegelenberg, CEO of X-Plorer Yachts and Liquid Yacht, is managing the refit. He said: " JeMaSa is undertaking a formidable exterior and interior transformation including redesign and fabrication of interior spaces, new fitout and furnishings, flooring, glazing and lighting to convert it to a five-star luxury explorer yacht."
Koegelenberg continued: "GCCM is the perfect one-stop shop for superyacht refit, and a safe heaven on the river. It is also a great place for new builds. We are currently building JeMaSa ’s new aluminium chase boat in our own factory located on the shipyard. Once again, working together with the best marine trades in the business.”
Andrew Chapman, GCCM’s COO added: "We are very proud to work, once again with Juan. With his specialised companies – X-Plorer Yachts, Liquid Yacht and Marine Scaffolding – Juan has tremendous experience in the transformation of huge vessels here at GCCM. Projects like this bring many if not all our in-house talented master craftsmen together and the results are spectacular. This is why owners choose to bring their million-dollar vessels to GCCM."
In terms of engineering upgrades, the refit yard will be installing one electric watertight door and a replacement of engineering plants.
The exploration yacht, with Pacific Ocean crossing capabilities, is powered by twin Caterpillar diesel engines, delivering a top speed of 12 knots and a maximum range of 7,000 nautical miles.
Formerly Plan B, the yacht was sold in December 2023 at a last known asking price of $14,900,000.
