The Sailor's Style Guide: How to Dress at a Yacht Club

If you've been invited to a casual yacht club rendezvous, you'll need the right threads to fit in.  in this guide, we'll walk you through the yacht club attire you'll need to fit in. hint: you can find the perfect outfit head to toe with castaway.

You've been invited to a meal or event at a local yacht club, but you've never been to one before. Suddenly, the panic sets in. What should you wear? Fortunately, there are lots of options and visiting a yacht club does not mean you have to spend a lot of money just to fit in. This post will give you some pointers on yacht club attire so that you feel neither under nor overdressed, and can really enjoy yourself and have a great time at the club.

Before you even think about what to wear, check to see if the yacht club you're going to has a dress code posted online. Most of them do, and the rules can vary from club to club. The Nantucket Yacht Club , for example, requires semi-formal attire for its dinners and cocktail attire including ties for men during its dinner dances and balls. The Hyannis Yacht Club goes into a little more detail. It accepts stylish casual wear including clean, neat jeans and shorts for lunch. For dinner, guests are expected to step it up by leaving the denim at home and wearing sports coats. Different areas of a club may also have different dress rules. Bars and outdoor decks tend to more lax and allow casual clothing.

Sometimes, the easiest way of narrowing down what to wear is to eliminate what you should not wear. This is just a partial list of how not to show up at any kind of yacht club unless you want to be denied admittance or receive a lot of disapproving glares. All rules listed apply to the inside of the club, and can vary for beach and dock rulings.

Flip Flops or Going Barefoot: This rule applies INSIDE the club, or for any meal time. Most people love the beach, but going barefoot is not only unacceptable, but unhygienic.

You'll want to wear appropriate footwear such as sturdy sandals or closed toe shoes. While a lot of children and adults love their flip-flops, they may be a little too casual for a yacht club atmosphere. The most popular choice here is a boat shoe style but a bridle bit driver is always appropriate - check the latest . The lightly worn leather and pencil-curled laces fit the bill in the cool department.

Torn, Stained, or Worn Clothing: Any attire that is showing signs of wear such as rips, stains that never came out, holes, missing buttons, etc. should be left at home.

Baseball Caps and Other Hats: Most yacht clubs prefer that men remove their caps when inside the venue. Save them for the sailing excursions.

Extra points on the water if you rock the Club’s Burgee on the hat!

Swimwear: Just a no-no. Save it for the boat and the beach. A cover-up can be acceptable for the patio.

Going Shirtless: Nope!

Undershirts as Shirts: See above. You may also want to be careful about choosing a t-shirt, particularly one with graphics, when visiting a yacht club. Most prefer that you wear a collared shirt, even if it's a casual one such as a polo shirt.

Tank tops for men and any tank tops for women that are skimpy and don't hide undergarments should be saved for another occasion.

Women have a lot of options when it comes to visiting a yacht club. Linen and cotton make the perfect summer blouses. A light but structured Sleeveless Top paired with a  sweater is perfect for warding off cool sea breezes when you're out on the deck. A polo or collared shirt works well for the yacht club scene as well. You can also consider a dressy blouse that has a little bit of flounce to it. If shorts are allowed for the time and area of the club you're visiting, consider sporting  Sailing  shorts  with a cute anchor embroidery. They're cool, classy, and show off just the right amount of leg. Casual skirts and dresses are perfectly fine as well as long as they're not too short and revealing. If you're attending a party at a yacht club you may need to wear a nice cocktail dress, or a classic Tunic Dress for a day event. Special events such as balls and dinner dances usually specify what is appropriate attire on the invitation.

Don't forget to have fun with accessories! A straw handbag can complete a nautical themed look.

For most casual yacht club occasions, men can't go wrong with a collared shirt and long pants or Cisco Shorts . Pastel and preppy shades such as summer green, hurricane red, and islander blue rule here.

When casual attire is allowed, collared sport or polo shirts are always in fashion. Seersucker and linen shirts are available in several colors and patterns for summer club get-togethers. If jeans are not allowed, seersucker or cotton canvas pants are still casual and comfortable yet dressy enough for all areas of a yacht club. If you really want to show your love of nautical dressing, consider wearing a fun Embroidered Pant !

Or you can opt for solid pants but add some nautical flair with an embroidered belt . Classic summer staples like Seersucker and Madras Patches will make you the talk of the Club, in a good way!

For those chilly sea breezes and evenings, a quarter zip pullover wards off the cool air while keeping you stylish and casual.

It's a good idea to keep a sportcoat and a few ties in your closet just in case the yacht club you're visiting requires it. Opt for a fun all over embroidered jacket, or a Madras Patchwork style to really up your game.

Kids' clothing should conform to the same yacht club rules as established for grown-up guests. If you really want your son to look cute, consider dressing him in the same matching outfit as dad.

Whether you're looking to make a splash with yacht club attire or just want to look good on the boat or while meeting with friends, we have the seaside looks that you'll look and feel wonderful in for men, women, and children.

Best #1 Guide for What to Wear to a Yacht Party at Night

Prepare to set sail in style with our humorous yet insightful guide on what to wear to a yacht party at night. From chic cocktail dresses to stylish boat shoes, we’ve got you covered for your upcoming nighttime yacht extravaganza. Jump aboard, and let’s navigate through the sea of fashion together!

Table of Contents

Welcome aboard, fellow yacht enthusiast.

Ahoy, mateys! Is this your first time boarding the luxurious deck of a yacht party? First off, congratulations on scoring the invite. Whether you’ve snagged an invite to a boat charter shindig or have managed to wrangle an invitation to a swanky yacht club event, one thing’s for sure: you’re in for an evening of glamour, style, and breathtaking views. And I’m not just talking about the scenery if you know what I mean.

A Night on the High Seas: The Thrill of Yacht Parties

There’s something undeniably alluring about yacht parties, isn’t there? You’ve got the soft, lapping sounds of the water, the twinkling lights reflecting off the undulating waves, and the prospect of enjoying a fancy dinner while cruising around a prosperous city’s skyline. It’s like stepping into a luxury lifestyle reality TV show episode, minus the unnecessary drama and relentless backbiting. Or at least, let’s hope so!

You see, yacht parties are a special breed of parties. They’re not quite your regular boat parties, where the dress code involves anything that can withstand a spontaneous cannonball into the pool. They’re not your average cocktail parties either, where you might spend half the night trying to balance on one foot as your high heels sink into the grass.

No, yacht parties are a unique blend of opulence and relaxation. One moment you’re sipping on a perfectly chilled glass of bubbly, the next you’re admiring the view, sunglasses perched stylishly on your head, lips moistened with your favorite lip balm, and the sea breeze playfully tousling your hair. Oh, and did I mention the delicious prospect of a dance party under the starry skies? It’s all about the mingling, the laughter, the luxury, and did we forget the glamour? Yes, yes we did.

Your Ticket to an Enthralling Yacht Trip

Consider this your first step towards mastering the art of yacht party attendance. The yacht trip may be the stuff of dreams, but let’s get one thing clear right away: It’s not all about leaning on the deck rail in a glamorous pose (though there’ll be plenty of opportunities for that, don’t worry).

It’s about a carefully orchestrated balance of style, comfort, and yes, appropriate footwear (because no one wants to be that person who slipped and face-planted in front of the DJ booth). So, whether you’re setting sail for a nighttime extravaganza on a luxury yacht or looking forward to a relaxed boat trip with friends, there’s a sartorial sweet spot to hit, and that’s exactly what we’ll help you find.

By the time we’re done here, you’ll be walking up that gangplank with your head held high and an outfit that screams, “Yes, I’m yacht-party-ready and fabulous!”. So, buckle up (or should I say, secure your life vests), let’s dive into the exciting world of yacht party outfits.

Navigating The Sea Of Dress Codes

Life on the high seas can be turbulent, and yacht parties, as fabulous as they may be, are no exception. Just like the ever-changing ocean currents, there is an intriguing ebb and flow to yacht party dress codes. One yacht charter might insist on a strict dress code that looks like it came straight out of a vintage nautical-themed movie, while another might just require you to be decently clothed and not wear anything that could be mistaken for a lifebuoy.

The key to decoding these sartorially challenging waters lies in understanding the type of party. A casual boat ride? Think light, airy, and sea-spray resistant. A luxury yacht cocktail party? Time to unleash your inner James Bond or Audrey Hepburn. But remember, even the best outfits must pass the ‘can I move without toppling overboard?’ test.

Weather Or Not, Here You Dress!

Let’s talk about the elephant on the yacht – the weather conditions. Just like the swaying boat might affect your balance, weather conditions could potentially affect your fashion choices. Now, I know we’d all like to believe we’re attending yacht parties in the perfect summer season, but let’s face it, not all of us are that lucky.

If you’re sailing under the scorching sun, light colors, breathable fabrics, and a wide-brimmed hat are your best bet. Oh, and did I mention sunscreen? Yes, even the chicest of us can turn into a lobster under that unforgiving sun, and let’s be real, ‘crispy’ is a good choice for bacon, not your skin.

But let’s not forget our friends in the winter season who still manage to keep the party boat sailing. Here, a light jacket won’t just be a good idea, it’ll be your best friend. Throw in a pair of long-sleeved shirts and dress slacks, and you’ll be both stylish and frostbite-free. And hey, it’s the perfect excuse to rock those knee-high boots you’ve been dying to show off.

Wind In Your Hair, Style In Your Wear

Picture this: You’re on a yacht trip, your hair is doing that fabulous slow-motion windblow thing, you take a sip from your cocktail, and suddenly… you realize your flowy dress is not as immune to the sea breeze as you thought. Yep, it’s Marilyn Monroe moment time! So, remember, while that crop top and wrap skirt may seem like a good idea at first, you might want to consider the potential for wardrobe malfunctions. Opt for an outfit that will let you enjoy the breeze without turning you into a spontaneous flag.

On the flip side, boat shoes might seem like a comical idea, but let me tell you, they are the unsung heroes of yacht parties. They’re classy, comfortable, and most importantly, have a grip that even the sea-slicked deck can’t challenge. So, while high heels might seem tempting for the ladies, remember: a sprained ankle is hardly the souvenir you want from your fabulous yacht party.

And that, my friend, is your primer on the factors that will shape your ultimate yacht party outfit. Now, let’s dive into the fun part: decoding the best outfits for your yacht soirée! Stay tuned for a breakdown of looks that will have you feeling as glamorous as the luxury yacht you’re stepping onto.

Setting Sail with Style: The Ladies’ Edition

Alright ladies, it’s time to discuss our battle plan. This is a yacht party, not a trip to the grocery store, so let’s aim for the sweet spot between “I’m here for the caviar” and “Did someone say cannonball?”

The Cocktail Dress Conundrum

For a chic look, a cocktail dress is a great option, and most often the most popular choice for a nighttime yacht party. Whether you opt for a short dress that shows off your legs or a midi dress that sways with the sea breeze, remember to choose breathable fabrics. However, don’t go too flowy, lest you want an unexpected Marilyn Monroe moment. And while the little black dress is an evergreen option, don’t be afraid to experiment with bright colors and solid colors. But, ladies, avoid the urge to wear your floor-length Oscar gown. Remember, it’s a yacht, not the red carpet.

The Casual, Yet Classy Alternative

If you prefer a more casual look, pairing a bikini top with denim shorts or a shirt dress can give off those effortless “I woke up like this” vibes. Throw in a stylish one-piece swimsuit underneath for that impromptu midnight dip. And before you ask, yes, crop tops are an excellent choice for a relaxed boat party outfit. Just make sure to wear it with something high-waisted, unless you want to moonlight as a belly dancer.

A Word (or Two) about Footwear

Let’s talk about the elephant in the yacht – high heels. They’re cute, they make your legs look amazing, but are they a good idea on a boat? The answer is: it depends. If the yacht is the size of a small country and the crew members double as bodyguards, go for it. But if you’re on a smaller vessel, strappy sandals or flat shoes might be the safer choice. Remember, fashion first, safety… also first.

Accessorizing for the High Seas

How much jewelry is too much? Well, unless you’re trying to double as a chandelier for the evening event, less is more. A statement necklace or dangling earrings can add a touch of glam without going overboard (pun intended). And don’t forget your pair of sunglasses, even at night. They’re not just for shielding your eyes; they’re a style statement. But beware, the sea breeze has a naughty habit of sending hats overboard. So, if you’re planning on wearing a wide-brimmed hat, make sure it fits well or is secured with a stylish scarf or hatpin.

Cruise Control: The Men’s Guide

Gentlemen, you’re up next! Your sartorial choices might seem easier, but remember, you’re on a yacht, not a pirate ship. Your goal should be to strike a balance between looking like a sea-faring fashionista and not like you’re auditioning for the role of the Skipper on Gilligan’s Island.

The Nitty-Gritty of Formal Wear

If the event is more on the formal side, like a boat wedding or a fancy dinner, a full suit or sports coat can never go wrong. Stick to lighter colors to avoid overheating. Polo shirts or Oxford shirts with dress pants or dress slacks are a safe bet. Pair it with boat shoes or loafers for a polished look. And remember, if you’re wearing a white shirt, beware of the red wine!

The Laid-Back Look

For a more casual vibe, a linen shirt with denim shorts or chinos is the perfect outfit. Boat shoes are again your best bet for a comfortable, stylish choice. And gentlemen, here’s a tip: bring a light jacket or matching jacket. Not only can it combat the cool sea breeze, but it can also be a chivalrous offering to a lady who underestimated the chill.

Deciphering the Details

Sunglasses are not only for the ladies; they’re a must-have accessory for gentlemen too. As for hats, unless you’re going for the sea captain look, it’s best to leave them at home. And gentlemen, don’t forget your lip balm. Saltwater and wind can do a number on those lips, and cracked lips are hardly the accessory you want to sport.

Now, that we’ve covered the basics, remember this: the key to a successful yacht party outfit is to embrace the setting, consider the event, and most importantly, wear something that makes you feel like a million bucks. After all, you’re on a yacht, darling, and that’s reason enough to celebrate!

Preparing for the Unexpected: The Wild Cards

Alright, we’ve covered the basics, but yacht parties are anything but basic. So let’s talk about those wildcard scenarios that no one tells you about. For instance, what if the yacht charter throws a staff party with a nautical theme? Or, what if you’re attending a boat cruise dinner party that’s a black-tie affair? You may find yourself asking, “Are denim shorts really the best way to win the best-dressed award?”

Navigating Nautical Nightmares

First up, the nautical-themed yacht party. These events can sometimes come with a specific dress code that would make a sailor blush. Think stripes, light colors, and yes, boat shoes are an absolute must here. Polo shirts for the gentlemen and shirt dresses for the ladies are great options, along with a pair of sunglasses to complete that “I just docked my yacht” look.

And remember, when it comes to nautical fashion, don’t fight the tide, ride it!

Black Tie on The Blue Sea

Now, let’s talk black-tie affairs. This is where formal wear takes center stage. Gentlemen, it’s time to break out the full suit or tuxedo, and ladies, this is your chance to shine in a cocktail outfit or an elegant evening gown. This isn’t the time for your bikini top or denim shorts, no matter how expensive they were. Don’t forget, you’re on a luxury yacht, not a surfboard.

One key tip here, make sure you know the difference between black-tie and black-tie optional. If you show up to a black-tie optional event in a full tux while the rest of the guests are rocking the smart-casual look, you’re going to feel like James Bond at a beach party. And that’s not as cool as it sounds.

The Casual Cocktail Conundrum

So, what if the invite says ‘casual cocktail wear’? Now, this is where it gets tricky. You want to look casual, but not “I just came from the gym” casual. Ladies, a knee-length summer dress or chic cocktail dress should do the trick. And gents, a sports coat over a polo shirt, paired with some dress pants, will have you looking dashing without feeling overdressed. Remember, ‘casual’ in yacht language usually means ‘casual chic’, not ‘casual sloppy’.

On the Home Stretch: Some Parting Words

There you have it, folks! A complete guide to standing out, while fitting in, at your next yacht party. So whether you’re headed for a daytime event, a fancy evening event, or even a boat wedding, remember these simple rules.

Always consider the type of party, keep in mind the weather conditions, dress appropriately for the specific dress code, and take necessary safety precautions. And don’t forget to have a great time. After all, it’s not every day you get to party on a yacht!

Remember, at the end of the day, it’s all about having fun and feeling fabulous. So, get out there, seize the day (or night), and show that yacht party what you’re made of! You’ll be the talk of the boat charter and the envy of the crew members in no time. Enjoy your yacht party, you fancy sea-farer, you!

Navigating Night Parties: The Dark Side of Dressing

When the sun sets and the yacht’s deck becomes a dance floor, there are a few additional sartorial points to consider. Nighttime yacht parties aren’t just about being comfortable; they’re about shining brighter than the stars overhead.

Understanding The Dark Color Dynamics

Ladies and gentlemen, dark colors are your best friends at night. But beware, the dark side is not all black and white, or should I say, black and navy. When picking your evening wear, think jewel tones and earthy hues. Gentlemen, a solid navy sports coat paired with an oxford shirt can do wonders. Ladies, try a rich burgundy cocktail dress or an emerald green jumpsuit.

However, make sure your evening wear doesn’t double as camouflage with the night sky. If you fall overboard, you want to be spotted quickly, not mistaken for a playful dolphin!

Lights and Brights: Accessorize with Shine

As for accessories, this is your time to shine. Literally. Pick jewelry that sparkles and catches the light. A statement cocktail ring or chandelier earrings can be just the ticket. Gentlemen, a nice watch can be both practical and stylish. Just ensure it’s waterproof, because, you know, you’re on a boat.

Oh, and ladies, high heels can be a good choice at night when visibility is low, and tripping hazards become the evening’s surprise guest. But remember the golden rule: if you can’t walk in them on solid ground, you’ll look like a newborn giraffe on a moving yacht.

Taking A Walk on The Wild Side

If you’re feeling adventurous, why not try something different for your nighttime yacht party outfit? Ladies, a stunning silk jumpsuit paired with strappy sandals can offer a chic look that breaks the cocktail dress monotony. And gents, consider a dinner jacket with some character – perhaps something in a pattern or with a bright pocket square.

It’s Party Time: Final Touches

As we come to the end of our fashion voyage, it’s time for some general tips for any yacht party, day or night, summer or winter.

Remember, the first thing is to always be comfortable. It’s hard to have a great time when you’re constantly adjusting your outfit or nursing a blister from those brand-new boat shoes. Choose comfortable clothing that makes you feel confident and enjoy the party.

And remember, you are attending a yacht party at a prosperous city’s yacht clubs, not a pirate gathering or a sailor meetup. While the nautical theme might be fun for a staff party, at a more elegant event, keep your sea shanties and pirate impressions at bay.

Most importantly, have fun! Whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned yacht party attendee, every boat trip is a special occasion. So, put on your perfect outfit, and prepare for a night (or day) to remember.

Now, go forth and be the life of the boat party! I can’t wait to hear all about your fabulous yacht party outfit and the great time you had. Just don’t forget to invite me next time, okay? Happy sailing, my stylish friends!

Weathering the Party: Dressing for the Elements

Sailing into this section, it’s time to confront the elephant in the room – or rather, the weather on the yacht. Trust me, nothing puts a dampener on a party faster than being under (or over) dressed for the weather conditions. So let’s talk climate, comfort, and chic ensembles!

Sizzling Summers: Keeping it Cool

Summertime yacht parties are a paradise of warm breezes and cool cocktails. Ladies, think flowy dresses, chic crop tops, and your best pair of sunglasses. And don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat, both for style and to shield you from the summer sun. Now, if the hat goes flying off into the sunset, don’t fret – at least it made a grand exit.

Gentlemen, linen shirts are your best bet in the summer season. Pair them with some stylish shorts, slap on a healthy layer of sunscreen, and you’re good to go. And let’s not forget about boat shoes. They’re not just a trendy name, they’re built for grip and comfort on deck.

Wintry Waters: Style that Warms

Now, what if your yacht party is in the winter season? Fear not, because style doesn’t hibernate. Ladies, a midi dress paired with a stylish jacket can keep you warm and elegant. Adding a stylish wrap skirt can also add an extra layer against the cold.

For the gentlemen, long-sleeved shirts and dress slacks are great options. Add a light jacket or sports coat to combat the chilly sea breeze. And remember, winter weather is no excuse to forgo the boat shoes. Frostbite toes are hardly the evening’s desired icebreaker.

Nailing the Nighttime: Starlit Style

Regardless of the season, when it comes to nighttime yacht parties, remember: the temperature can drop faster than your dance moves. Ladies, that chic cocktail dress might need a matching jacket. Gentlemen, your stylish polo shirt might appreciate the company of a light jacket.

Embracing The Elements: The Last Word

In the end, keep in mind that while yacht parties are about looking your best, they’re also about feeling your best. The right outfit is about more than just the perfect picture, it’s about creating the perfect memory.

So check the weather forecast, consider your comfort, and dress appropriately. You’re not trying to win a fashion war against the elements, you’re trying to have a fantastic time at a yacht party. And let’s be honest, shivering in a corner or melting under the sun isn’t anyone’s idea of fun.

Now, you’re armed with all the knowledge you need to brave the weather, beat the dress code, and bestow your fashionable presence on that yacht party. Whether you’re cruising into a summer sunset or dancing under the winter stars, you’ll be prepared for any yacht party – come rain or shine.

Bon voyage, my fashionable friends. May your outfits be chic, your weather be mild, and your parties be memorable. I’ll be expecting an invitation to your next boat soiree! Remember, the best outfit is the one worn by a happy party-goer. Sail on!

A Floating Fête: Navigating Different Yacht Events

As we float further into this sea of fashion wisdom, it’s time to address another important aspect of yacht party outfit selection: the type of event. Whether it’s a relaxed day cruise, an elegant cocktail party, or a crazy dance party, the dress code can vary as much as the waves beneath your feet.

Chill Cruise: Comfort is Key

Daytime events such as a relaxed boat trip or boat ride often call for a casual look. Ladies, this is a great opportunity to sport those denim shorts or a light shirt dress. Pair them with flat shoes or sandals for comfort and mobility. No one wants to perform an accidental backflip while navigating the deck in high heels!

Gentlemen, a polo shirt, a pair of shorts and of course, the indispensable boat shoes make for a great boat party outfit. Just remember, when the sun is shining, a pair of sunglasses and lip balm can be your best friends. It’s all fun and games until you’re mistaken for a lobster.

Cocktail Conclave: Dress to Impress

When it comes to cocktail parties on a luxury yacht, your outfit needs to make a splash. Ladies, this is the perfect occasion for cocktail dresses or even a little black dress. Pair them with high heels or strappy sandals, and you’re ready to dazzle the crowd.

For the gents, it’s time to step up your game. Dress slacks, a solid color oxford shirt, and a sports coat will fit the bill. Boat shoes are still a good choice, offering a nautical touch to your cocktail attire.

Dance Dock: Let Loose and Move

Now, if it’s a dance party on a party boat, things are about to get wild. Ladies, feel free to explore options beyond the cocktail dress. A crop top paired with a wrap skirt can make for a comfortable and chic look, perfect for a night of dancing.

Gents, a linen shirt with denim shorts could be your best bet here. It’s comfortable, stylish and most importantly, dance-friendly. Just remember, while your dance moves might be fire, your feet don’t need to be. Stick to those comfy boat shoes.

All Aboard: Final Call

In conclusion, dressing for a yacht party is not about following rigid rules, it’s about understanding the vibe of the event and feeling great in what you wear. Whether you’re partying on a yacht cruise in the heat of summer, enjoying a boat charter in the crisp winter season, or stepping aboard a yacht for the first time, remember that the best outfits are ones that make you feel fabulous.

So take a moment, consider the event, check the mirror, and then forget all about it and enjoy the party! Whether it’s a fancy dinner on a boat, a staff party, or a cocktail evening, you’re going to have a great time.

Dress up, step up, and ship out, my nautical fashionistas! May your yacht parties be unforgettable, your boat trips spectacular, and your outfits always on point. Until the next time we set sail in the sea of style!

Party Don’ts: What to Avoid at Yacht Parties

Alright, shipmates, we’ve sailed through all the dos of yacht party fashion, now let’s drop anchor for a moment to discuss the don’ts. Because let’s face it, even the most stylish sea-dogs can make mistakes when partying at sea.

Overboard Overkill: Too Much is Too Much

The first rule of yacht party fashion: don’t overdo it. Yes, you want to look fabulous, but remember, you’re not trying to outshine the yacht itself. Wearing too much jewelry can make you look like a walking chandelier or, worse, a pirate’s treasure chest. It’s also not a good idea to wear extremely formal wear like a full suit or an evening gown unless the event calls for it.

This also applies to makeup. Ladies, a boat party is not the right place for full-on, smoky-eye Hollywood glamour. Not only can it be a bit much, but you also run the risk of looking like a raccoon after a passionate encounter with the sea breeze.

Impractical Choices: It’s Not Just About Looking Good

When deciding on your boat party outfit, remember to consider practicality. An extravagant feathered hat may look fabulous on land, but at sea, it may quickly become a seagull’s new target.

Ladies, high heels can be a stunning addition to your outfit, but only if you can walk comfortably in them. Nobody wants to perform an impromptu ballet recital on the deck. If you’re in doubt, opt for flat shoes or wedges. And remember, the only stilettos allowed onboard should be served in a martini glass.

Ignoring The Dress Code: Don’t Be That Person

Lastly, always consider the dress code. If the yacht party has a specific dress code, it’s not just a suggestion, it’s your ticket to board. Don’t be the person who shows up to a black-tie event in flip flops and a bikini top. Not only is it a fashion faux pas, but you might also be mistaken for a castaway.

Smooth Sailing: The Final Wave

So there you have it, the complete guide to what to wear to a yacht party at night – and the daytime too. Remember, the key to nailing your yacht party outfit is balancing style, comfort, and appropriateness to the event. From casual daytime cruises to glamorous nighttime soirees, these tips will ensure you’re always dressed to impress, without going overboard.

Whether you’re setting sail for a relaxed boat ride or an extravagant yacht charter, remember to dress with confidence, comfort, and a touch of nautical chic. After all, you’re not just attending a party, you’re making waves.

So, cast off those fashion doubts, hoist the sail of confidence, and steer your style towards an unforgettable yacht party. And remember, the real secret to being the life of the party is not just what you wear, but how you wear it. So wear it with a smile, a laugh, and a dance move or two. Until our next fashion voyage, sailors!

Special Maritime Moments: Dressing for Themed & Occasion-Specific Parties

As we voyage further into the yacht party outfit sea, let’s delve into a slightly more niche territory: themed parties and special occasions. A prosperous city yacht club might throw a nautical-themed gala, or your mate Dave might invite you to a boat wedding. These events need a dash of creativity to meet their unique dress codes, and, trust me, these could make for some of the best outfits you’ll ever wear.

Themed Thrills: Embracing the Unusual

Themed parties are the time to step out of your comfort zone and into some fun. Nautical theme? Break out the sailor stripes and opt for bright colors to give your outfit a pop. 80’s retro dance party? Time to dig out those neon colors and wild prints.

But remember, though it may be tempting to go all out, do make sure you are still comfortable. Dressing like Captain Jack Sparrow might win you points for dedication, but that heavy pirate coat might not be the best choice for a dance party.

Saying ‘I Do’ on the Deck: Boat Weddings

Attending a boat wedding? This is where you might want to push the boat out – pun intended. Women, a knee-length summer dress in light colors can be a good choice. It’s formal, yet appropriate for the setting. Pair it with some stylish flat shoes or wedges, and you’re wedding-ready.

Men, it might be time to bring out the dress pants and a crisp white shirt. Depending on the formality of the event, a matching jacket or sports coat might be required. But remember, this is a yacht, not a stuffy old banquet hall. Opt for light, breathable fabrics to stay comfortable.

Celebrate in Style: Special Celebrations

For birthday bashes or anniversary parties, comfort and style go hand in hand. Ladies, consider a chic midi dress in solid colors or a short dress paired with a light jacket for an evening event. Men, you can’t go wrong with a linen shirt and dress slacks for that chic look.

Seal the Deal: Wrapping up the Fashion Voyage

Ultimately, themed parties and special occasions allow you to get creative with your yacht party outfit. The most important rule to remember is that the best way to ensure you have a great time is to feel good in what you’re wearing. Dressing for the theme or occasion is part of the fun, but comfort should always be a priority.

So, there you have it, shipmates! You’re now ready to take on any type of yacht party – from the strictest dress code to the wildest theme. Just remember, the best accessory to any outfit is a sense of humor and a readiness to have fun.

Until next time, I bid you fair winds and a great time at your yacht parties. Whether you’re docked in a prosperous city, dancing on a party boat, or just enjoying a boat cruise, remember: in the grand scheme of things, it’s not just about the clothes you wear but the memories you make while wearing them. Sail on!

Survival Kit: Essential Items to Pack for Yacht Parties

Alright, stylish sea dogs, we’ve covered what to wear to a yacht party, but what about those vital items you need to bring along? You know, the unsung heroes of the yacht party, the items that could save your night from going overboard.

Safety First: Important Precautions

First things first: safety precautions. Now, I don’t mean life jackets and flares – although, it’s good to know where those are. No, we’re talking about items like a wide-brimmed hat and a good pair of sunglasses. These can protect you from the harsh sun during daytime events. And of course, never forget the lip balm. Cracked lips might give you that rugged sailor look, but they’re not much fun when trying to enjoy your fancy dinner.

Comfort is Queen (and King): Must-Haves for Feeling Good

Comfortable clothing is a must on any boat trip, but there are a few additional things to consider. Ladies, if you’re wearing high heels, it’s a good idea to pack a pair of flat shoes too. After a few hours of dancing or walking on deck, you’ll be glad you did. Men, remember to bring an extra polo shirt or a light jacket. You never know when the sea breeze might kick in, and you don’t want to be shivering in your shorts.

Ready for Anything: Extra Essentials

But the true yacht party survival kit extends beyond clothing. Remember to bring along your go-to items to keep you looking fresh all night. This might include travel-sized toiletries, makeup for touch-ups, and, most importantly, a portable phone charger. After all, you’ll need enough battery to capture the memorable moments of your yacht trip, and you don’t want to be the one hunting for a power outlet on a luxury yacht.

Batten Down the Hatches: Final Words

There you have it, my fellow yacht-goers – the ultimate guide on what to wear to a yacht party at night (and day), and what to bring along. Keep in mind these outfit ideas, remember to check the weather conditions, dress according to the occasion, and most importantly, pack your survival kit.

But remember, while dressing right can set the tone for a great night, it’s your attitude that will make or break your experience. So, sport your yacht party outfit with confidence, rock that boat party with style, and savor the moment.

So, whether you’re partying on a yacht charter, cruising on a boat trip, or celebrating a special occasion on a yacht club, be prepared, be comfortable, be stylish, but most importantly, be ready to have a fabulous time.

Now go forth, my stylish sailors, and make some waves. I’ll see you at the next yacht party – just look for the person dancing in boat shoes, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, and reapplying lip balm. Bon voyage!

Onboard Etiquette: How to Make Waves (the Good Kind) at Yacht Parties

So, you’re all dressed up in your yacht party outfit, you’ve packed your survival kit, and you’re ready to rock the boat (metaphorically, please). But wait! How should you behave once you’re onboard? Well, my dear yacht-goers, let’s wrap up this fashion voyage with a quick guide to yacht party etiquette.

Crew Courtesy: Show Some Respect

Let’s start with the first thing you should remember: the crew members aren’t your personal waitstaff. Yes, they’re there to make sure you have a great time, but that doesn’t mean you can treat them like your minions. Be polite, respectful, and remember to thank them. They’re the ones making your luxury yacht experience possible, after all.

Don’t Rock the Boat: Keeping Balance

Next up, keep in mind that you’re on a boat, and boats can, well, rock. Try not to be the person who’s stumbling around like they’ve just sailed around the world single-handedly. Whether you’re wearing high heels or boat shoes, remember: walking on a boat requires a bit more finesse than on dry land.

Breezy Boundaries: Personal Space and Privacy

Just because you’re all on a boat together doesn’t mean personal boundaries have disappeared. Respect other guests’ space, don’t barge into cabins uninvited, and keep the noise down if you’re the last one dancing at the nighttime yacht party.

Chic Celebrations: Dressing for the Occasion

While we’ve covered this in detail, it’s worth repeating: always dress for the occasion. If it’s a formal cocktail party, then cocktail attire is a must. If it’s a casual boat ride, then denim shorts and a crop top might be a good choice.

All Ashore: Final Departure

So there you have it, shipmates, the end of our fashion voyage. We’ve covered what to wear to a yacht party at night and in the day, how to prepare for themed parties and special occasions, what to pack in your survival kit, and now, how to behave on board.

Whether you’re attending a yacht charter, a staff party, a boat wedding, or just a simple boat cruise, remember: it’s all about balance. Balancing style and comfort, fun and responsibility, making an impression and respecting others.

Remember, the best outfits are worn by those who know how to have a good time without going overboard (in both senses of the word). So get out there, make some waves, and have an unforgettable time. And who knows? Maybe I’ll see you at the next yacht party, cocktail in hand, wearing the perfect outfit, and of course, rocking a wide-brimmed hat. Until then, smooth sailing!

Dress Code Decoded: Yacht Party Styles Around the World

Just as the horizon changes from port to port, so do yacht party styles around the globe. In our final section, we’ll anchor in a few glamorous locations and see how the dress code changes from one prosperous city to another. Let’s set sail!

European Elegance: Mediterranean Magic

Imagine this: you’re at a yacht party, the sun is setting over the Mediterranean Sea, and you’ve just been handed a glass of champagne. What are you wearing?

In European yacht clubs, think chic and elegant. Women, consider a flowy dress in light colors for that ‘dancing on deck at sunset’ vibe. Men, opt for linen shirts and dress slacks, or perhaps an oxford shirt if the occasion is more formal.

Caribbean Casual: Laid-Back Luxury

Now let’s head to the Caribbean, where the vibe is a little more relaxed. Here, boat parties are all about comfort and style. Ladies, a bikini top paired with a wrap skirt or denim shorts can work perfectly. Gents, polo shirts and board shorts are a good choice. Don’t forget your wide-brimmed hat and lip balm to combat the tropical sun!

American Affluence: Hamptons High Life

Sailing over to the Hamptons, the dress code becomes slightly more posh. Here, boat shoes are a must, and you can’t go wrong with a summer season color palette. For women, consider pairing a shirt dress with strappy sandals for a daytime event or a little black dress for an evening affair. Men, long-sleeved shirts with dress pants or chinos are the way to go.

Final Port of Call: Making it Your Own

Despite the different dress codes, one rule remains the same across all yacht parties: be comfortable, and be yourself. Whether you’re on a luxury yacht in Monaco or a boat charter in Miami, remember that the best way to enjoy any party is to feel good in what you’re wearing.

We’ve now circumnavigated the globe, discussing what to wear to a yacht party at night and day, from the tropics to the Mediterranean. We’ve had a lot of fun – and I hope you have too!

So as you disembark from this fashion journey, remember, whether you’re the first-time sailor or the seasoned sea dog, whether you’re gearing up for a boat trip or a staff party, wearing the right outfit can elevate your experience from ‘just another boat party’ to ‘an unforgettable night at sea’.

Now, fellow yacht-goers, it’s time for you to make your own waves. As you step onto that deck, remember, you’re not just attending a yacht party – you’re making a statement. So dress well, have fun, and let the sea breeze guide you. Happy sailing !

33+ Yacht Party Attire Ideas: Setting Sail in Style

Julie Higgins

When it comes to yacht party attire, striking the perfect balance between nautical elegance and casual sophistication is the key to making waves at any maritime soirée.

Imagine cruising on sparkling waters, the sun painting the sky in hues of orange and pink as you sip champagne and nibble on gourmet treats.

This is the essence of a yacht party—a luxurious haven where socialites and fashionistas alike come to unwind and celebrate.

While the captivating beauty of the sea and the allure of social mingling over Insta-worthy treats serve as irresistible opportunities to relax and snap some great social media content, your yacht party attire plays a pivotal role in how you experience it.

Choosing the right yacht party attire is not just a fashion statement; it’s a social grace.

Your outfit is your personal brand’s uniform, helping to form those all-important first impressions and showing who you are and what you represent before you even utter a word.

After all, celebrity fashion stylist Rachel Zoe once said: “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak!”

Whether you’re aiming for casual sophistication or an evening of glamour, your wardrobe choices can set the tone for the party and ensure that you’re comfortable, confident, and appropriately dressed for the occasion.

Understanding Yacht Party Attire

Yacht parties come in many shapes and styles, from daytime soirees to sunset cocktail events and even formal black-tie affairs.

Understanding the tone of the party you’re attending is essential in getting the dress code right and choosing the appropriate clothing for the occasion.

Types of Yacht Parties

  • Daytime Parties: Often casual and sporty, these are the events where you can revel in your love for pastels, shorts, and deck shoes – the stereotypical nautical style. A daytime yacht party typically has a relaxed and airy vibe, ideal for linen dresses, polo shirts, and flip-flops.
  • Sunset Parties: As the day turns to evening, the attire takes a more glamorous turn. Think cocktail dresses, tailored jackets, and smart-casual outfits that allow you to transition from day to night seamlessly.
  • Formal Events: These are the crème de la crème of yacht parties, where the dress code could range from cocktail attire to full black-tie. Men are expected to show up in tuxedos or at least a well-tailored suit, and women often wear elegant evening gowns or chic cocktail dresses.

Ambiance and Setting

The ambiance is directly influenced by the type of yacht party.

Daytime events are generally cheerful and relaxed, often with summer tunes playing in the background.

It’s almost like a scene from those cool summer music videos that you typically lust over on TV when you’re stuck at home wearing chunky knits in the middle of winter!

You might find people lounging in swimwear, cover-ups, or casual summer dresses. The evening parties, however, usually come with a hint of formality.

Dim lighting, jazz or classical music, and a more sophisticated crowd require an equally sophisticated wardrobe.

Understanding the ambiance and setting not only helps you choose your outfit but also prepares you for the social dynamics of the party.

Always remember, the right yacht party attire can help you navigate through any social sea with grace and confidence.

Daytime Yacht Party Attire

When the sun is shining and the yacht sets sail for a daytime soiree, think airy, relaxed, and comfortable, but never compromise on style.

The key to nailing daytime yacht party attire lies in lightweight fabrics like cotton, linen, and chambray.

These fabrics not only help to keep you cool but also make you appear effortlessly chic and elegant without looking too over the top.

Women can opt for breathable summer dresses or a stylish combination of tailored shorts with a sleeveless blouse.

Men might consider wearing cotton or linen shorts paired with a crisp polo shirt or even a short-sleeve button-down shirt.

Don’t shy away from nautical prints—think stripes, anchors, or even seashells—to give your outfit that quintessential maritime touch.

Comfortable shoes are a must; you’ll likely be walking around, socializing, or perhaps even dancing. Boat shoes, espadrilles, or sophisticated flip-flops are great choices that blend comfort with style.

Sunset and Evening Yacht Party Attire

As the day transitions into evening, yacht parties often adopt a more sophisticated and formal tone.

The relaxed shorts and flip-flops that served you well during the day are replaced by chic sundresses, elegant jumpsuits, and smart separates like tailored pants and silk blouses.

Fabrics like silk, satin, or lightweight wool are the perfect way to cover-up in the evening when enjoying watching golden hour turn to sunsets over the sea.

These kinds of fabrics also offer a luxurious touch and are ideal for travel too.

For men, a well-fitted blazer can transform a casual daytime look into a smart evening ensemble when paired with dark jeans or tailored pants.

It’s always a good idea to bring along a stylish layer piece for evening parties, as temperatures can drop quite significantly after sunset.

Women can opt for a lightweight pashmina shawl or a fashionable jacket, while men might consider a lightweight sweater or casual sports jacket.

The key is to choose garments that are easily removable yet blend seamlessly with your outfit, keeping you comfortable without sacrificing style.

Try to avoid tight-fitting sweaters that can mess up your hairdo or makeup or are generally just uncomfortable and tricky to pull on and off over your head.

Nautical Elements and Color Palette

In the world of yacht parties, the nautical fashion trend is a timeless classic.

You know the one!

Clean, bold navy stripes across a crisp white canvas.

These patterns are usually worn on t-shirts, dresses or shirts and teamed with white shorts or trousers and light canvas shoes.

The palette is usually dominated by navy, white, and accents of red or gold.

These colors not only evoke the maritime spirit but also offer a touch of elegance and simplicity.

Incorporating these shades into your outfit, whether through a navy-blue blazer or a white linen dress, can make a subtle yet striking impact.

Maritime-inspired accessories can serve as the finishing touch. Think anchor-shaped pendants, sailor knots, or even rope belts.

Get creative with nautical-inspired accessories and have fun! What better place to lose yourself in this trend than when dressing for a yacht party at sea!

These little details can provide that extra layer of authenticity and sophistication to your yacht party looks, making you appear not just fashionable but also in tune with the sea-loving setting.

Footwear Choices for Yacht Parties

Your choice of footwear can greatly influence your overall experience at a yacht party.

While you might be tempted to sport those killer heels or brand-new leather loafers, comfort should be your primary concern.

Espadrilles offer a chic yet comfortable solution, providing a cushiony base and ample style.

Boat shoes are another excellent choice, especially for men, as they offer good grip and a timeless look.

Sandals, preferably with a back strap, can also work well, offering both comfort and ease of movement.

While high heels might look glamorous, they can be a recipe for disaster on a boat.

Not only are they uncomfortable when worn for long periods of time, but they also pose a safety risk too, particularly during bouts of turbulence from rough tides or when you’re moving around on a deck that can become slippery from overlapping waves.

When it comes to yacht parties, style should never come at the cost of safety or comfort.

This is your ideal opportunity to dress up and look glamorous minus the heels so why not make the most of it!

Accessorizing for Yacht Glamour

The right accessories can significantly elevate your daytime yacht attire.  When it comes to elevating your yacht party outfit , accessories play a crucial role.

The right choice of accessories can add that final touch of glamour, converting a good outfit into an extraordinary one.

Sunglasses are a must, not just as a style statement but also for eye protection. Choose a pair that complements the shape of your face and the vibe of your outfit.

You typically can’t go wrong with classic styles in black, tortoiseshell or metal-rimmed aviators.

For daytime events, statement sunglasses are not just practical for shielding your eyes from the sun; they’re also a cornerstone of yacht chic.

Whether it’s a classic aviator, a retro cat-eye, or an oversized pair, the style you choose can speak volumes.

Hats are another accessory that serves dual purposes: function and fashion.

A wide-brimmed hat can protect you from direct sun exposure while adding a hint of sophistication to your look.

Wide-brim sun hats or casual baseball caps can add flair while offering the practical benefit of shielding you from the sun.

Similarly, a well-chosen piece of elegant jewelry—perhaps a pearl necklace or a set of gold bangles—can light up your outfit in the evening.

Don’t overlook functional accessories like a chic sunhat for daytime or a stylish clutch for the evening.

These items can hold your essentials while complementing your ensemble.

A light scarf or bandana is another versatile accessory, offering a pop of color and serving as a functional piece to keep your hairstyle and patience intact against the occasional gust of wind.

Remember, accessories are your chance to inject personality into your outfit.

Choose pieces that resonate with your style but also match the event’s theme.

The right balance between practicality and flair can set you apart in the most sophisticated manner.

Screenshot 2023 09 22 113333

Navigating Formal Yacht Party Attire

Formal yacht parties take the concept of nautical elegance to the next level.

Dress codes can range from cocktail attire to black-tie, which means a step up from your regular party wardrobe.

Ladies can opt for elegant cocktail dresses that exude sophistication.

Fabrics like silk, chiffon, or lace add a luxurious touch that fits the high-end setting.

If the event is black-tie, an evening gown is more appropriate, preferably in understated colors like black, navy, or metallic shades.

When choosing an evening dress, try to remember that “less is more” and we don’t mean the amount of material!

Be mindful of not picking a style that’s overly revealing and showing off too much cleavage.

Not only is flashing the skin not deemed appropriate in this type of formal setting, you also run the risk of experiencing a potentially embarrassing wardrobe malfunction when onboard.

For men, a tailored suit can often suffice for a cocktail dress code.

However, for black-tie events, a tuxedo becomes almost imperative. Look for high-quality materials and a fit that complements your body shape.

Remember, a well-tailored suit or tuxedo not only looks good but also boosts your confidence, enhancing your overall experience at the party.

Packing Essentials and Preparation

Preparing for a yacht party involves more than just choosing an outfit. The trick lies in packing smartly to cover all scenarios.

Your checklist should include not just your main outfit but also layering options, swimwear, and a change of clothes if the party extends into the late hours.

Don’t forget essential accessories like sunglasses, hats, and perhaps even a light scarf or shawl for cooler temperatures.

Always consider the weather forecast and the possibility of water activities when packing.

Ziplock bags can be handy for protecting your phone and other essentials from water damage.

Pack your outfits in garment bags to keep them in good condition and use shoe bags for your footwear to maintain their shape and cleanliness.

Choosing the perfect yacht party attire can feel overwhelming, but it’s all about balancing style with comfort and appropriateness for the occasion.

Whether it’s a casual daytime event or a swanky evening soiree, your outfit sets the tone for your experience.

Never underestimate the power of well-chosen accessories or the importance of appropriate grooming and skincare.

Embrace your personal style but be respectful of the event’s vibe and dress code.

After all, yacht parties are an embodiment of fashion, luxury, and the majestic backdrop of the sea.

If you’re lucky enough to get an invitation to a cool summer yacht party then make sure you revert back to these tips to help you choose the right clothing and accessories for a thoroughly successful and enjoyable boat party experience.

What to Wear to a Yacht Party: Business or Leisure

what to wear to a yacht party

For those who belong to boating and yacht communities, the question "what to wear to a yacht party?" pops up almost as frequently as the parties and social gatherings that take place in sea-based luxurious locations.

Luckily, we consider ourselves to be well-versed in the art of fashion, the silent dress code, and appropriate dressing, particularly when it comes to clothing and accessories to wear on a yacht. We have prepared this guide for you to use as a reference in order to not only dress the part but to also stand out from the crowd (in a good way) and make a statement.

If you would like to know how to dress, and what to dress, then keep reading!

What NOT to Wear on a Yacht Party (or any Boat Party)

what not to wear to a yacht party

For this particular section, we categorize items of clothing and accessories that should not be worn by sections of the body, beginning at the feet, and work our way up. Again, these are articles of clothing that should NOT be worn as they could yield disastrous results in any given event or yacht party, whether it be classy, casual, or somewhere in between.

  • Flip Flops - Only wear flip flops if the yacht party involves swimming and water-based activities.
  • Sandals - Sandals are absolutely discouraged because they neither offer the flexibility of flip flops nor present the wearer as a stylish, professional, or formal individual.
  • Heels - Although a common sight in any classy yacht party and dinner event, trudging around the deck with a pair of high heels is not advisable due to safety and stability issues. If needed, try going with thicker and shorter heels.
  • Athletic Shoes or Rubber Shoes - Keep the athletic shoes, rubber shoes, or sneakers at home as they have no place in a yacht party, casual or otherwise.
  • Denim Pants or Shorts - Anything denim is a no-no in any classy event, and when it comes to sea-based attire, there is absolutely no justification to wear such material, regardless of the type of event.
  • Baggy Pants or Shorts - Yes, we could concede that baggy articles of clothing offer a degree of breathability and utility, but you do not attend events such as cocktail parties or dinners wearing a baggy pair of shorts or pants. This is just a fashion prohibition, plain and simple.
  • Jacket or Hoodie - Perhaps you can bring a jacket or hoodie for boat bedtime or fishing expeditions, but when it comes to choosing outfits for a yacht party, slapping a jacket on is a bit out of style.
  • Shirt - Although there are obvious exceptions to wearing a shirt (such as in a summer yacht party or a casual yacht party where a shirt is more comfortable and breathable). A shirt should not be on top of your list of preferred items of clothing when attending water-based events. Avoid casual shirts and stick with buttoned shirts or polo shirts.
  • Hat or Cap - Unless the dress code strictly requires you to bring a hat or cap, there is absolutely no reason to wear either to a yacht party. Sure, it can look good and chic when the style fits your personality and body type, but rarely do we consider a hat as an appropriate piece of clothing to wear to a yacht event.
  • Sunglasses - Don't get us wrong, we absolutely love wearing sunglasses and every bit of the design and substance shades can offer. But in the context of formal events such as cocktail events or night activities, this accessory is discouraged.

Ideas on What to Wear to a Yacht Day Party

what to wear to a day yacht party

The best outfit to wear for men would be what people usually dress up as for country club/ yacht club events or exclusive golf activities. Being exposed to the sun, it would be ideal to go with outfits that include bright polo shirts and khaki pants that match or complement the color of the upper garment.

The best outfit to wear for women would also be what people usually have as an outfit for country clubs or exclusive social gatherings. Acceptable outfits may involve a dress and heels, but the most ideal outfit for women for a nautical day party would be a polo shirt and either slim-fit khakis or knee-length shirt.

Ideas on What to Wear to a Yacht Dance Party

For men, a yacht dance party should entail an outfit that does not restrict movement and if possible, aids it even further. We would advise slapping on dance shoes that have tested and proven outsoles (to prevent slipping and imbalance) along with a button-down shirt and dress pants.

For the females, especially if the dance party is held at night (after dinner), a statement attire would be form-fitting dresses, jewelry that is not too loud or flashy, and light shoes or heels.

What to Wear to a Yacht Business Party

Men should wear corporate attire to a boat business party, whether it be held in the day or in the evening. A typical combo would entail button-down shirts, formal slacks, black or brown shoes, a coat or blazer, and a tie as an extra touch.

Females should also be on their A-game in events such as this. Therefore, we would suggest a button-down shirt, simple jewelry, tailor-made slacks or knee-length skirt, and heels that match the colors of the previously mentioned pieces of clothing.

What to Wear to a Yacht Cocktail Party

Men should be thinking of attending international conferences or exclusive seminars when attending boat cocktail events. A practical look for this particular event would be a button-down collared shirt, dress pants or formal slacks, and brown or black shoes.

For females, the ideal motif or reference point would be major events and concerts such as clothes one would wear to an opera or musical. We suggest considering form-fitting dresses that are made of lightweight fabric materials.

Ideas on What to Wear to a Yacht Dinner Party

For dinner time or night time, men should still observe a get-up that is presentable and professional. As a reference point, think of our suggestions for the cocktail party: button-down collared shirts, dress pants or formal slacks, and brown or black footwear.

For females, stilettos are the most ideal footwear for such an occasion. This can be paired with either a cocktail dress or a full-length gown, depending on the type of formality the dinner activity requires.

Ideas on What Kids Should Wear for a Yacht Day Party

For kids, sporting a more casual look and wearing items that protect your skin from the UV rays are more important considerations to have over style and appropriateness. As such, we would recommend any of the following for kids or teenagers attending boating events:

  • Head: Cap or hat and glasses or shades
  • Upper Body: Shirt and jacket
  • Lower Body: Linen Shorts or Baggy Pants
  • Footwear: Rubber shoes or any pair of footwear that offers sufficient padding and protection

Tips for What to Wear for Summer and Winter Yacht Parties

As for seasonal attire, such as summer attire or winter attire, you can opt for any of the classic looks (beach look, layered winter get-up, maxi dress/flowy clothes).

A suit and tie would definitely not sound appropriate if we are specifically talking about seasonal suits or dresses, but make sure to opt for clothes and accessories that match, whether it be stripes, solid colors, fresh, warm, and light hues, or darker colors.

Consider the time of day. If you are exposed to the scorching hot sun and all its bright glory on a summer day, then going for a flowy outfit would do wonders for your skin and perspiration.

If you are about to experience a harsh, cold, wintery night, perhaps a thicker dress outfit with longer length or a suit and tie outfit layered with undergarments offer a better experience, even by just a little bit.

The sea is a perilous region that may have moments of life and death. But in the context of social activities such as yacht parties and sailing activities, dressing in a suit or dress appropriately and wearing the right pieces of jewelry and accessories can spell the difference between a below-the-deck catastrophe and a life-changing nautical success. It may seem a little bit over-the-top, but you have to consider your appearance for the purpose of self-confidence and establishing the right connections with individuals.

So, wish as you could to change your past blunders (if any), the only thing that can be done is to be well-informed going into your next fun, formal, casual, or classic party. Whether or not a dress code is announced, it is best to keep this guide in handy. The next time you ask yourself what to wear to a yacht party, you should have all the information.

Dress to Impress: What to Wear to a Yacht Party

Introduction.

Attending a yacht party can be an exciting and glamorous experience, but it's important to dress appropriately for the occasion. Whether you're a seasoned yacht-goer or a first-timer, it's essential to understand the dress code and theme of the party to ensure you make the right impression. The first thing to consider when dressing for a yacht party is the theme of the event. If there is a specific theme, such as a nautical or tropical theme, it's important to incorporate elements of that theme into your outfit. This can be as simple as wearing a striped shirt or incorporating bright, tropical colors into your ensemble. Another important factor to consider is the location of the yacht party. If the party is taking place in a tropical location, lightweight and breathable fabrics are a must. Opt for cotton or linen materials that will keep you cool and comfortable in the heat. On the other hand, if the party is taking place in a cooler climate, layering options such as a light jacket or sweater may be necessary. It's also important to consider whether or not there is a specific dress code for the yacht party. If there is, be sure to adhere to it and dress accordingly. If not, classic yacht party attire such as nautical stripes, boat shoes, and khaki pants are always a safe bet. Finally, don't forget to accessorize your outfit to complete the look. Statement sunglasses, a sun hat, and a beach bag are all great options to consider. When it comes to footwear, boat shoes, sandals, or espadrilles are appropriate choices. It's important to avoid wearing heels or anything that may damage the deck of the yacht. In conclusion, dressing for a yacht party can be a fun and exciting experience. By considering the theme of the party, the location, and the dress code (if there is one), you can ensure that you make the right impression and feel confident in your outfit. Remember to have fun with your outfit choices while still being mindful of the occasion.

Consider the venue, accessories, men's attire.

When deciding what to wear to a yacht party, it's important to consider the venue. The location of the party can greatly influence your outfit choice. If the party is taking place in a tropical location, you'll want to opt for light and breezy fabrics that will keep you cool in the heat. Think flowy sundresses, linen pants, and cotton shirts. Bright colors and bold prints are also a great choice for a tropical yacht party. On the other hand, if the party is taking place in a cooler climate, you'll want to dress in layers to stay warm. A light jacket or sweater paired with a dress or pants and a blouse is a great option. Neutral colors like navy, white, and beige are perfect for a cooler climate yacht party. It's also important to consider the type of yacht you'll be on. If the yacht is more casual, you can get away with a more relaxed outfit. However, if the yacht is more formal, you'll want to dress accordingly. Always check with the host or hostess to see if there is a specific dress code for the party. Overall, when considering the venue for a yacht party, it's important to dress for the weather and the type of yacht you'll be on. Keep in mind that you'll be on a boat, so you'll want to wear something that is comfortable and won't get in the way. With these tips in mind, you'll be sure to impress at your next yacht party.

When it comes to dressing for a yacht party, it's important to consider whether or not there is a specific dress code. Some yacht parties may have a formal dress code, while others may be more casual. If there is a dress code, it's important to adhere to it to show respect for the host and other guests. If there is no dress code specified, there are still some classic yacht party attire options to consider. Nautical stripes are always a safe bet, as are boat shoes. For women, a sundress or jumpsuit in a light and breezy fabric can be a great option. For men, a collared shirt and khaki pants can be a good choice. It's important to remember that even if there is no dress code, a yacht party is still a special occasion and it's important to dress appropriately. Avoid anything too casual, such as shorts or flip flops, and opt for something a bit more put-together. Ultimately, the key to dressing for a yacht party is to strike a balance between comfort and style. You want to be able to move around and enjoy yourself, but you also want to look good while doing it. Don't be afraid to have fun with your outfit choices, but always be mindful of the occasion and the other guests. With the right outfit, you'll be sure to impress and have a great time on the yacht.

Accessories are an essential part of any outfit, and they can make or break your look at a yacht party. When it comes to accessorizing for a yacht party, think statement pieces that will elevate your outfit and add a touch of glamour. One of the most important accessories for a yacht party is sunglasses. Not only do they protect your eyes from the sun, but they also add a touch of sophistication to your look. Opt for a pair of oversized sunglasses with a bold frame to make a statement. Another must-have accessory for a yacht party is a sun hat. Not only will it protect your face from the sun, but it will also add a touch of elegance to your outfit. Choose a wide-brimmed hat in a neutral color like beige or white to complement your outfit. A beach bag is also a great accessory to bring to a yacht party. Not only will it hold all of your essentials like sunscreen and a towel, but it will also add a touch of style to your look. Choose a straw beach bag with colorful tassels or pom-poms for a fun and playful touch. When it comes to jewelry, less is more at a yacht party. Opt for a simple pair of earrings or a delicate necklace to add a touch of sparkle to your outfit. Avoid anything too flashy or over-the-top, as it can detract from your overall look. In conclusion, accessories are an important part of any outfit, and they can take your yacht party look to the next level. Choose statement pieces like oversized sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and a straw beach bag to add a touch of glamour to your outfit. Remember to keep your jewelry simple and understated, and you'll be sure to turn heads at your next yacht party.

When it comes to footwear for a yacht party, it's important to strike a balance between style and practicality. While you want to look fashionable and put-together, you also need to consider the fact that you'll be spending time on a boat. This means that you'll need to choose shoes that are comfortable, slip-resistant, and won't damage the deck of the yacht. One classic option for both men and women is the boat shoe. These shoes are designed with a non-slip sole and are made from materials that can withstand exposure to water. They also have a preppy, nautical look that is perfect for a yacht party. For women, sandals or espadrilles are also a great choice. Look for styles with a low heel or flat sole to ensure that you can move around the boat with ease. It's important to avoid wearing heels or anything with a sharp or pointed sole. These types of shoes can easily damage the deck of the yacht, which is not only a faux pas but can also be dangerous. Additionally, you'll want to avoid shoes that are too casual, such as flip-flops or sneakers. While these may be comfortable, they don't quite fit the dress code for a yacht party. When choosing footwear for a yacht party, it's also important to consider the color and style of your outfit. If you're wearing a bold or patterned dress, for example, you may want to opt for neutral-colored shoes to balance out the look. On the other hand, if you're wearing a simple outfit, you can add a pop of color or texture with your shoes. Overall, the key to choosing footwear for a yacht party is to prioritize comfort and practicality while still looking stylish. With the right shoes, you'll be able to enjoy the party without worrying about slipping or damaging the yacht.

When it comes to dressing for a yacht party, men have a few options to choose from. The key is to strike a balance between looking stylish and being comfortable. Linen or cotton pants are a great choice for a yacht party, as they are lightweight and breathable. Pair them with a polo shirt for a classic, preppy look. Boat shoes are a must-have for any yacht party outfit, as they are both stylish and practical. They provide good grip on the deck of the yacht and are comfortable to wear for long periods of time. While shorts may be tempting in warm weather, they are generally not appropriate for a yacht party. Instead, opt for pants or even a pair of tailored shorts if the dress code allows. Avoid anything too casual, such as t-shirts or athletic wear. A yacht party is a special occasion, and your outfit should reflect that. Accessories can also play a role in a man's yacht party outfit. Sunglasses are a must-have for any outdoor event, and a sun hat can provide both style and sun protection. A watch is also a great accessory to add to your outfit, as it can complete the look and add a touch of sophistication. In summary, men should aim for a classic, preppy look when dressing for a yacht party. Linen or cotton pants, a polo shirt, and boat shoes are all great options. Avoid anything too casual, such as shorts or athletic wear. Don't forget to add some accessories to complete the look and have fun with your outfit while still being mindful of the occasion.

What To Wear On A Yacht featured image by the supermelon

Attending a yacht party calls for a blend of sophisticated style and relaxed elegance, capturing the essence of the nautical setting while ensuring your comfort and confidence.

Whether envisioning a glamorous sunset cocktail party, a leisurely sunbathing session, or a serene exploration of hidden coves, curating the perfect yacht ensemble becomes an art.

This guide navigates the realm of yacht fashion, offering insights and inspiration to ensure you’re impeccably dressed for every moment of your nautical experience.

From chic essentials that capture the essence of oceanic elegance to tips on selecting attire that harmonizes with both sea and sky, the following are the style essentials to elevate your yacht experience to unparalleled heights.

yacht cocktail attire

Yacht settings generally adhere to a semi-formal dress code, implying that items like shorts, flip-flops, or t-shirts are best avoided. Instead, consider selecting slacks or khakis for men; sundresses, jumpsuits, or skirts are excellent choices for women.

When in doubt about your attire, it’s preferable to lean towards a more polished appearance rather than a casual one.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

When dressing for a yacht outing, opt for a nautical-inspired ensemble. Consider wearing a crisp white shirt paired with tailored shorts, boat shoes or espadrilles, and a sun hat.

This classic look combines comfort and style, suitable for both genders, while capturing the essence of a yacht setting.

Before finalizing your outfit for the boat party, there are a couple of factors to consider, with the first being the prevailing weather conditions. If the temperature is soaring, opting for lightweight and breathable fabrics is paramount.

Donning stylish swimsuits is integral to yacht party attire, accompanied by chic cover-ups and delicate, breezy dresses or shorts. By skillfully coordinating these elements, you can effortlessly master the art of yacht-worthy fashion.

yacht cocktail attire

However, in the event of cooler temperatures, ensuring you’re well-insulated is imperative. Being caught unprepared amidst the vast ocean during fall or winter could prove quite uncomfortable.

Moreover, regardless of the schedule, having a sweatshirt or a light denim jacket at the ready is prudent, particularly when the night descends.

The maritime environment can turn quite chilly after sunset, especially during the colder months.

Furthermore, your outfit choice should be tailored to the specific activities planned aboard the yacht. If your plan revolves around leisurely moments on the boat’s deck, a combination of shorts and a T-shirt layered over a stylish bikini is likely suitable.

However, should water sports be part of the agenda, selecting attire that remains relatively dry and light prevents any undue discomfort caused by excess moisture.

Lastly, take into consideration the overarching ambiance of the yacht setting. For a laid-back gathering, opting for a more relaxed outfit is acceptable.

However, if the occasion leans towards a more refined tone, it’s essential to align your attire accordingly.

Midi or maxi dresses and stylish rompers and jumpsuits are excellent choices that seamlessly blend sophistication with style.

Essential attire for women at a yachting event includes cover-ups, tunics, kaftans, and dresses with a fluid, breezy quality. These pieces harmonize seamlessly with swimwear, offering both a stylish layer and a means of keeping cool and comfortable.

Opting for a maxi or lace cover-up exudes an elevated charm, while selecting a sundress cover-up or a romper lends a more relaxed aura. For everyday yacht wear, consider the practicality of linen dresses and side tie skirts, both of which effortlessly complement the maritime experience.

yacht cocktail attire

No looks exudes the maritime quite like a cover-up, and these lightweight garments serve as a stylish and functional layering option when transitioning between water-based activities and lounging on the beach or on a yacht. Cover-ups are typically made from materials like chiffon, cotton, linen, or lightweight knits, which make them breathable and comfortable in warm weather. Moreover, cover-ups offer protection from the sun’s rays while maintaining an air of sophistication. The following are common cover-ups for women:

yacht cocktail attire

With their loose and flowing silhouettes, tunics further amplify a great seaside look. They often feature intricate designs, embroidery, or patterns and can be made from lightweight materials like cotton, linen, or sheer fabrics.

Tunics provide coverage for the upper body while allowing air to circulate, keeping you cool. Their effortless charm pairs well with the nautical backdrop, allowing women to exude both comfort and elegance.

yacht cocktail attire

Kaftans are loose-fitting, maxi-length dresses with wide sleeves, often made from flowing fabrics like chiffon, silk, or lightweight cotton. Kaftans can be quite elegant and are popular for their bohemian vibe. They offer women full coverage and the ultimate in  comfort during warm weather.

yacht cocktail attire

Slay it with a sarong!

Typically made from lightweight, quick-drying materials like rayon or silk, sarongs are versatile pieces of fabric that can be wrapped around the waist like a skirt, tied as a halter dress, or used as a shawl. Sarongs are easy to pack and provide coverage while allowing flexibility in styling.

yacht cocktail attire

Inspired by traditional Japanese clothing, kimonos are open-front, flowing garments that often feature vibrant prints and patterns and are made from lightweight materials.

Kimonos are distinctive, add a touch of elegance, and can be worn over swimsuits or paired with shorts and tops.

Oversized Shirts

yacht cocktail attire

For a more casual approach, an oversized button-up shirt can be worn as a cover-up. It’s a versatile option that can be worn open or buttoned up, offering coverage and protection from the sun.

Play up the look with vibrant colors or intricate patterns for an engaging yacht style.

Is a cocktail dress a suitable choice for women?

For occasions leaning towards the more refined end of the spectrum, a sophisticated yacht party might very well warrant the selection of a cocktail dress, or in rarer instances, an elegant gown. The cocktail dress code, being slightly less formal than full evening wear, aligns well with such gatherings’ relaxed yet stylish atmosphere.

Ideally, the event’s formality level will be communicated beforehand, but exceptions do exist.

When the ambiance is less formal than a boat wedding, alternative options like wide-legged pants, rompers, or wrap skirts can be considered. Attire resembling what you would choose for a beach or poolside gathering would also be fitting.

An essential consideration when attending any yacht event is the choice of footwear. It’s advisable to steer clear of heels – opting for flat shoes is a safer and wiser choice to ensure a comfortable and accident-free experience.

Yacht Shoe Ideas for Women

Accessorizing.

Donning both hats and sunglasses is entirely fitting aboard a yacht, and they provide an added shield against the sun’s rays, which is undoubtedly beneficial.

Not only will you seamlessly blend in, but you’ll also be safeguarding your eyes and skin from potentially harmful UV exposure. Including sunscreen in your essentials is equally crucial to ensure comprehensive protection.

yacht cocktail attire

Amongst men, the favored ensemble for yacht journeys in motion often comprises a breezy, lightweight linen shirt, offering both comfort and composure throughout the excursion. Naturally, a pair of swim shorts is indispensable, ensuring you’re perpetually prepared for impromptu dips.

Completing the ensemble, opt for casual boat shoes that complement your yacht attire seamlessly.

Stylish sunglasses are essential to the maritime look as a vital accessory, effectively shielding your eyes from the sun’s glare.

While specific occasions may necessitate more refined apparel, such as dinner parties, these suggestions primarily focus on curating a laidback, relaxed aesthetic.

yacht cocktail attire

Linen button-downs stand as the preferred choice for men while onboard due to their lightweight and breathable nature.

They have long been associated with boating, ensuring a harmonious fit within a yacht environment. Light cotton options also offer similar advantages, with items like polo shirts seamlessly blending into a crowd.

Even a well-chosen t-shirt can find its place, though appropriateness should be tailored to the context. However, a slightly elevated appearance may be preferable for slightly more formal outings or celebratory gatherings.

A great pair of tailored pants are a definite option for a day or night out on a yacht. Linen pants , chinos, or loose slacks are all versatile enough for any event.

Yet, a reliable pair of shorts proves invaluable if the yacht’s purpose involves active endeavors like fishing or sailing.

These offer comfort and freedom and ensure readiness for any unforeseen water-related situations.

In the realm of yacht wear, swim shorts emerge as a particularly pertinent item, given the likelihood of aquatic escapades. Whether you find yourself plunging into the Mediterranean or relaxing a jacuzzi, shorts are a pragmatic must-have.

Be it for leisure or the potential of an emergency scenario requiring a swift swim, swim shorts serve both purposes seamlessly.

Ensuring both security and comfort, boat shoes are an indispensable inclusion for any yacht experience as they prevent unwanted slipping on the deck. Sometimes referred to as deck shoes, they closely resemble loafers but include laces for added practicality.

For more relaxed outings, some opt for flip flops, which can be suitable for casual days spent with friends.

Accessories

Wearing sunglasses aboard a yacht transcends mere fashion, assuming the role of a vital shield against the sun’s unyielding glare and potentially harmful UV rays. As you sail on a maritime journey, these shades emerge as a reliable companion, diligently safeguarding your eyes from discomfort and potential long-term harm.

Whether you’re leisurely absorbing the sun’s warmth or actively engaging in water-based thrills, sunglasses exude an undeniable air of refined elegance, effortlessly elevating your yacht ensemble.

What Is Suitable to Wear to a Yacht Party?

Crafting the perfect attire for a yacht party involves a skillful equilibrium among comfort, style, and functionality, seamlessly embracing the maritime setting.

Embracing an effortlessly chic and laid-back approach, the careful curation of your outfit can significantly enrich your voyage across the waves.

Deciding on fabrics that prioritize breathability and lightness, such as linen or cotton, ensures your ease amidst the sea breeze. In the backdrop of daytime gatherings, a palette of soft and pastel hues, including serene blues and delicate pastels, imparts an invigorating and lively ambiance.

Opting for a versatile piece like a fashionable sundress, coupled with boat shoes that perfectly balance comfort and trendiness, encapsulates the essence of casual sophistication.

As twilight descends and the festivities extend into the evening, embracing darker shades introduces an element of refinement, harmonizing with the fading sunlight.

The thoughtful inclusion of tasteful accessories, like a wide-brimmed hat for enhanced sun protection and stylish sunglasses that shield your eyes and accentuate your maritime charisma, further elevate your ensemble.

Ultimately, the crux lies in aligning your attire with the occasion’s level of formality, while never compromising on comfort, and embodying an aesthetic that mirrors the serene allure of open waters.

Final Considerations

Embracing a fusion of refinement and casual ease emerges as a simple and effective strategy when considering yacht attire. While certain occasions might warrant a subtle refinement, the extent of this shift hinges upon the unique event and the preferences of the hosts.

Give precedence to fabrics like linen and other lightweight options to optimize comfort. An indispensable element to include is a pair of boat shoes, guaranteeing stability on the deck. Additionally, ensure you don’t neglect key essentials such as swimsuits and vital sun protection gear, which notably includes sunglasses.

What Should I Wear to a Yacht Party?

The date is marked on your calendar. You’ve confirmed your RSVP. And you’ve likely spread the word that you’ll soon be attending a party on a yacht in Marina del Rey (because why wouldn’t you?).

But the question still remains…What do you wear?

At FantaSea Yachts, we often hear this from clients hosting an event aboard one of our luxury yachts. Our answer is simple – it depends on the party and the time of day. We’ve compiled a few tips to jumpstart your yacht party inspo board.

What do I wear to a daytime yacht event?

When the sun is out, it’s a great time to play on the water. We’ve planned countless celebrations – brunches, lunchtime events, and casual cruises – for different groups during the day. All guest attire tends to be similar. Breezy. Light. Think linen pants or jackets, flowing dresses, polo or oxford shirts… relaxed but stylish. This is your chance to dress differently than your normal attire; leave the jeans, t-shirts, leggings, and board shorts at home, and impress your fellow partygoers with a well-put-together outfit. It never hurts to sport a nautical-themed look (navy stripes and gold accents, included) to pay homage to the setting. Don’t think of it as gimmicky – it’s part of the fun! If you’re looking for nautical inspiration, check out this article, 12 Ultra Cute Ways to Wear Nautical-Inspired Clothes.

For daytime yacht parties, we recommend flat shoes, strappy sandals, low wedges for the ladies, and a pair of classic loafers for the gentlemen.

What do I wear to a nighttime yacht party?

Whether it’s a boat wedding , milestone bash , or company party , nighttime yacht parties are always magical. From twinkling lights to starry skies, the moment you step onto one of our rooftop sky decks prepared to be WOWED. And that in itself is more than enough reason to dress up extra special.

Nighttime parties are great for cocktail dresses and semi-formal attire. Ladies, you don’t want to wear anything too long to avoid someone stepping on your dress or your shoe getting caught on the fabric. Go for comfortable glamor. If you opt for a cocktail dress, make sure the length is appropriate. Have fun accessorizing with statement jewelry and your favorite clutch or small shoulder bag (avoid a large tote or purse for an ultra-chic look).

For men, simplicity is the name of the game. Unless the event calls for formal attire, steer away from a tuxedo. Top options include a classic suit, dress slacks with a nice blazer and tie, or dress slacks with a sports coat and tie. Not sure what the difference is between a suit jacket, blazer, and sports coat? This Jos.A.Bank article breaks it down .

Of course, if your celebration is a yacht wedding , that will bring into account a more specific set of dressing dos and don’ts. Often formal attire will be the norm, but you should always ask your friends who are hosting their wedding on a yacht to see if the ceremony and reception is formal or casual.

Similarly, if the affair is a birthday yacht rental , then check with the hosts to learn if they are planning a unique theme that would require a specific fashion statement.

What should I always take to a celebration on a  yacht?

There are two stand-out answers to this question: A light sweater or jacket (it’s always cooler on the water), and your favorite pair of sunglasses. Other considerations include sunscreen, a fashionable hat, hair ties (in case it’s too breezy), and lip balm or chapstick. People often ask if motion sickness medication is needed. Our answer is no. The great thing about our cruises is that we stay in the Marina del Rey harbor and don’t go past the breakwater. This eliminates any wave activity (there are NO waves), which makes for an easy, smooth ride. There is virtually no risk of seasickness or motion sickness cruising these calm waters.

What not to wear to a yacht party?

This may seem obvious, but high heels or stilettos are probably the least popular accessory on ANY yacht cruise – day OR night. We also recommended avoiding super casual flip-flops as the look can appear sloppy.

What To Wear To A Yacht Party At Night (Fashion Tips)

Posted on June 17, 2022

You’re going to a nighttime yacht party! Wait – what should you wear? Your host hasn’t given you dress code pointers or a theme, and while you throw together decent outfits for parties on land, you’re clueless about what to wear at sea. There’s water, so will it have a pool-party vibe? Or will it be a glitzy shindig needing a full-on fancy outfit? What should you wear to a yacht party at night?

Dress in cocktail wear for a nighttime yacht party if no other dress code has been specified. Women can choose from cocktail dresses, pantsuits, jumpsuits, matching sets, or blouses tucked into dress pants. Suitable outfits for men include suits, dress pants, and blazers, or chinos and jackets.

Cocktail wear is just right for most nighttime yacht parties because it’s smart enough to make a good impression without being too formal for a yacht’s easy-breezy atmosphere. Some yacht events are, of course, black-tie affairs requiring tuxedos and evening gowns. But your host would have mentioned this on your invite. For outfit ideas for less-lavish yacht parties, we’ve got you covered.

Night Yacht Party Dressing Tips For Women And Men

When picking your yacht-party-ready outfit, consider three things: style, comfort, and safety.

Night Yacht Party Dressing: Style

For pitch-perfect night yacht party dressing, you’re aiming for a look somewhere between boardshorts and bikini and evening gown and tuxedo.

You’ll get this dress code right by sporting something you’d wear to a fancy dinner or cocktail party on land. Your goal is to look well put together without trying too hard (and be comfy enough to bust a move on the dancefloor!).

night yacht party style

Nautical style influences are popular in yacht wear, so consider bringing some navy, crisp white, brass buttons, or pops of red into your outfit.

Focus on fabric and avoid synthetics in favor of breathable naturals like cotton, linen, and silk.

You also want to avoid extremes in your footwear – no slip-slops or stilettos. And don’t choose your shoes to be the standout piece of your outfit, as you might be asked to take them off. Some shoes can wreck yachts’ decks, so make sure your outfit works with or without your shoes.

Night Yacht Party Dressing: Comfort

night yacht party dressing comfort

Yacht living is synonymous with luxury and leisure. Choose understatedly glamorous and comfy clothing to reflect this spirit.

But don’t take comfort too far. Go for clothes that feel amazing on your body but nothing too loose. Voluminous pieces will blow in the sea breeze , whipping against you and your fellow guests. And you’ll be anything but comfortable if you constantly need to restrain extra layers of fabric.

Another tip to keep you comfortable on board is to take something warm with you to wear if you feel chilly. It might be balmy when you set out, but it gets cool on the water.

Night Yacht Party Dressing: Safety

Yacht parties come with more risks than your standard garden party. The big one: tripping and falling overboard. So, you need to think about safety, including when selecting your outfit.

Long skirts and dresses are a tripping hazard. Rather stick to shorter hemlines.

Slip-slops and stilettos are not only fashion faux pas but also safety threats. You want to be sure of your footing, so wear flat shoes with a better grip than slops.

Plus, leave your long necklaces, chandelier earrings, and luxury watches at home. Dangly jewelry can blow in the wind, get stuck in something, and tug at your earlobes or make you trip, and sea spray can ruin your precious watch.

Night Yacht Party Outfit Inspiration For Women

These outfit options are sure to score you a place on the best-dressed list:

  • A cocktail dress. Try one in a rich jewel color to complement the deep blue of the night sky and ocean, or outshine the twinkling stars in a sequined number. Your trusty LBD will work well, too.
  • A jumpsuit. This is the ultimate piece for style and comfort. Choose an elegant design with details such as romantic sleeve ruffles, a low back, or a cowl neck. Or go for a timeless silk jumpsuit in a neutral color.
  • A pantsuit. Tailored suits aren’t only for the boys. Choose a sleek, cinched-waist two-piece with a silk camisole underneath.
  • A matching set. Be on-trend in a high-waisted skirt, shorts, or pants and a matching crop top. Add a blazer for a smarter outfit.
  • A blouse and dressy pants. Tuck a pretty, floaty blouse into smart trousers for a more casual yet still polished look. Add a nice leather belt for extra style points.

Ballet flats are the top shoe pick for a yacht party. You could also slip your feet into a pair of evening sandals, wedges, or kitten heels.

If you want to make your outfit showier, carry a beaded, sparkly, feathered, or satin clutch.

Night Yacht Party Outfit Inspiration For Men

Put together a winning look with one of these outfits:

  • A suit. Pair your choice of the suit (whether double-breasted, three-piece, or just a basic matching top and bottom) with a button-down and tie. Wear a rollneck jumper or perfect-fit T-shirt under your jacket for a more laid-back vibe.
  • Dress pants and blazer. Choose pieces in a similar shade for a polished look. Slim-fit or cropped trousers are yacht-style staples.
  • Chinos and jacket. For a relaxed option, wear your favorite chinos with a jacket. Or skip the jacket and wear a bold-print button-down with sleeves rolled up. Pick a dark color like navy, black, or charcoal for your chinos or add a tie to smarten up your outfit.

Brogues and derbies are both shoe styles for a smart-casual dress code . Wear loafers or leather trainers if you want something more casual and comfy.

Feel your outfit’s missing something? Experiment with a pocket square, statement belt, bowtie, or neckerchief.

Rock up at a yacht party looking either too casual or formal, and you might feel like jumping overboard in embarrassment (or you could tempt an image-conscious host to push you over!). Instead, help set the scene for a night to remember by dressing in cocktail wear. You’ll look stylish and feel at ease.

Also, think about safety when deciding what to wear. Avoid anything super long or baggy, dangly jewelry, and slippery or sky-high shoes. Then again, don’t put too much thought into your shoes – you might be asked to take them off!

Dressing for a Yacht Club Party

Lucky you!  You have just received an invitation for your very first yacht club party.  For most people this brings up the question “What on earth do I wear?”.  Have no fear!  We work with many yacht clubs to make sure their members look sharp with custom ties and scarves .  Here are some of our style tips to help you navigate the waters of yacht club fashion and pull together an amazing outfit.

Yacht Club Wear – Do Nots

While yacht club attire can vary by club and time of day of the event, there are certain items that just won’t do.  You should always avoid the following:

  • T-Shirts / Tank Tops
  • Revealing clothing (i.e. cut-off shirts, mini skirts, etc)
  • Wrinkled or otherwise “sloppy” attire

Also, while you may be tempted to don an ascot or jaunty captain’s hat … don’t.  For most people this will come across as cliche rather than sporty.  Classic styles, nautical colors and smart layers are the best way to go when building your dock-side ensemble.  You can also shop many of the clubs’ stores for shirts and ties embellished with the club logo.

Yacht Club Wear –  Dos

Hopefully, your invitation indicates the dress code.  But if it doesn’t, there are two general rules of thumb.  If the party is during the day, then select attire in the “country club casual” category.  If the party is in the evening, opt for traditional cocktail party wear.

Country Club Casual for Men

A classic polo or Oxford shirt is the standard for men.  Shirts should be clean, in good condition and neatly pressed.  These should be worn with black slacks or khakis.  When it comes to shoes, loafers in brown or black are the most popular choice.  A less popular but also acceptable footwear option is a pair of leather boots in black or brown.  Some yacht clubs require blazers even for daytime events.  To be safe, check the attire requirements posted on the club’s website or call them prior to the event.

Country Club Casual for Women

Just like men, polo shirts paired with well-cut slacks are an acceptable option for women.  Women can also choose a tailored blouse worn with a knee-length cotton skirt for a slightly dressier look.  Another popular ensemble is a simple summer dress with minimal accessories.  A cashmere sweater is the perfect outer layer to protect from cool breezes.  Ballet flats are the top shoe choice when dressing country club casual.

Cocktail Attire for Men

While not as formal as black-tie, cocktail wear is decidedly dressier than daytime apparel at a yacht club.  Dress slacks with a jacket and tie or a full suit are both appropriate options for an evening event.  Choose neutrals and subdued tones over bright colors or prints.  Men should accessorize with a black leather belt and matching shoes.  Stick with a loafer or Oxford style shoe and be sure your socks coordinate with your pants.

Cocktail Attire for Women

Cocktail dresses should be knee-length or midi-length in a solid or very subtle print.  If you are having a tough time finding the right color, the quintessential “little black dress” is always a smart choice.  Another popular trend for evening events is a formal women’s pant suit.  When it comes to accessorizing, less is more.  Choose a single statement piece of jewelry rather than a multitude of pieces and opt for a clutch instead of a shoulder bag.  Heels, dressy sandals, and ballet flats are all acceptable shoe options.

What To Wear To A Yacht Party At Night-Look Your Best At Any Event!

yacht cocktail attire

Dressing for a yacht party differs from any other type of event. This is because when invited for a boat party, you not only enjoy and have fun but also need to look gorgeous, feel comfortable and confident in your outfit of choice. Because boats tend to have unpredictable movements, you ought to take safety precautions. The main question that comes to mind is what to wear to a yacht party at night . With more concern being on night events, below is a detailed and informative guide on what to wear depending on the event.

Table of Contents

Cocktail Night Party

Cocktail Party at Night on a yacht

A cocktail attire for men comes with some sense of formality, but not as formal as a black-tie or so on. Appropriate options include dress slacks accompanied by a matching jacket and tie.

You may also consider a full suit which is equally pleasant. The choice of colors should be neutrals and subdued tones rather than prints or bright colors.

Your footwear should be black or brown leather shoes that match the color of your leather belt. Oxford style shoes are the perfect shoe choice. However, loafers will also give you that attractive official look. Make sure your socks match with your pants.

Ladies look good in cocktail night parties in a midi-length or knee-length dress of a subtle or solid print. You may be torn the choice of colors for your dress, but a black dress is ever on point and perfect. Equally popular is the formal ladies’ pantsuit trend. Again, a black pantsuit nails it.

On the part of accessories, invest in less but quality jewelry . You can go for a single statement piece rather than several jewelry pieces. It is recommendable to avoid shoulder bags and go for a clutch instead. Put on black ballet flats or dressy sandals for your shoe choice.

Business Night Party

Business Party on at night on a boat

Meeting your workmates for a business function, regardless whether it takes place at night or during the day, does not require evening wear.

Most parties of this caliber dictate a business-casual dress code, implying that professionalism here is preferred to glamour.

If you are not decided on what to wear to a party at night for business matters, below is how you should dress up.

Put on a button-down or polo shirt matching with a well-pressed pair of khaki pants. For the outerwear, go for blazers, sweaters and sports coats, preferably black or brown. Some parties may specify smart or dress casually.

In such cases, opt for fancier versions of the above outfit such as dress pants in place of khakis or chinos. On your feet, put on loafers, dress flats or oxfords-all are equally gorgeous.

As a lady, a wrap dress, skirt or dressy pants accompanied by long-sleeved top wear will furnish your appearance. Accessories may include plain but fancy earrings, a shiny neckless and bangles. Avoid overstuffing of jewelry. Opt for less but quality. Kitten heels match perfectly with the wrap dress. Ballet flats suffice any other outfit among the ones stated above.

Dance Night Party

Dance Party at night on a yacht

In an evening dance party, you can wear casual clothes, but be dressy. The most appropriate clothing material will be soft, thin and flowy fabric.

Light jackets are recommendable since it gets chilly at night.

Wear comfortable pants, khaki or jeans. These pants should be accompanied by a dress shirt or polo, both of which will be admirable on your body. You may also include a light jacket as an outwear.

The best footwear for such a party is Sperry men boat shoes. Any other non-marking shoe type may also serve the purpose. Remember, a casual look is more suitable for this event, hence official footwear may not suffice.

For a lady, it is advisable to choose a skirt with flounces and waist dresses. You can also wear loose pants and dressy tops outfit. A more girlish look may be achieved by wearing a jacket or color-coordinated wrap.

Also, you may opt for a long dress assorted with an attractive chandelier earrings pair. Again, avoid too much jewelry and foundation since you need to be presentable on such an occasion.

For a nice footwear, you can wear low-heeled sandals or flats, since they match well with any type of outfit. Avoid high heels since they are not suitable for dancing, especially on a boat!

Dinner Party

Dinner party on a yacht

An appropriate dinner attire on a yacht will depend either on the company’s dress code or the cruise line. Some lines insist on a specific dress code while others only give guidelines, leaving the outfit choice to you.

With that in mind, the outfit for a night dinner party may be formal, semi-formal, resort casual or casual depending on the guideline on the invitation.

A formal evening attire for men comprises of a dark suit matching with polished black dress shoes. Tuxedos are also suitable as an outwear on a plain official shirt. It should match with your choice of pants. Avoid polo shirts, khakis or boat shoes.

In a semi-formal setting, you can go for collared shirts and dress pants. Dark plain jeans are also acceptable.

You can wear golf shirts, button-ups, and khakis in a resort casual dress code. Your footwear will not go wrong with oxfords or tennis shoes. You can also take with you an attractive pullover or cardigan.

Casual dinners allow jeans, non-collared shirts, and sneakers. T-shirts that are tasteful according to the invitation standards may also be satisfactory.

Whole-length evening gowns, attractive jewelry, perfectly done hair and kitten heels make up the preferable formal wear for dinner. White or black knee-length skirts with long-sleeved tops also match well with kitten heels and give you a formal look.

Semi-formal settings are flexible and allow for cocktail dresses and dress sandals for the footwear.Sundresses, knee-length skirts, and capris are standard dress choices for resort casual dinner parties.

Stilettos and flip flops are nice shoes for such an event. A casual dinner atmosphere accommodates jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers. You should, however, avoid tank-tops and swimwears since they are too exposing.

In Conclusion

Different party atmospheres call for different dress codes and outfits. As an invitee, you should look forward to maintaining an attractive look that makes you confident and not out of place.

The above guide gives well-elaborate and easy to understand ideas on what you should wear in different night events. All boat parties have one goal in common; having an exceptional time!

So now that you are aware of all suitable outfits attend as many yacht parties as you can and have fun!

Hi Daniella,

Thank you for this post, now i know how and what to wear especially for a yacht party !

the Monaco GP party looks so much fun ! eventhough i never attend a party in the yacht , this post will be my guide on what to wear before i get a wrong dresscode 🙂

. Hi Elbert,

Yes, it is not always easy to know how to dress for a yacht party. I have participated in boat parties, and when you wear the wrong dress code, it is a bit embarrassing:) A yacht party is different than a party on land, so you really need to feel comfortable if you want to have a good time!  It is a good idea to take this article as a guide, I am sure it will come in handy when you’ll need:) Thank you for the comment!

Have a nice day!

This is great information for me as I have always been a tomboy, and definitely not a high-maintenance type of gal. So, I always fumble with what to wear for upscale events such as these. I am also going on a cruise this winter, so this is perfect information for me. So the dinners on the cruise, do I need to dress up each night for these? I need to have about 6 different “nice” outfits to wear? Or do they make several of them casual with one fancy? I have not a clue, LOL.

Great for you! I wish you to have a fabulous time on the cruise:) To answer your question, it is not an obligation to wear different attire every day on a cruise. Personally,  I would dress differently for each evening:). However, cruises have several chic nights where you have to dress elegantly and other evenings are required to dress smart casual. Bear in mind that each cruise has different dress code rules. So you better ask to the cruise management before you get on the on board. I hope it helped! Let me know if you need to know more info. I’ll be more than happy to assist!

Thank you for the comment and wish you a fantastic vacation on the cruise!

If you are attending a yacht party at night, a metallic halter top is a fantastic choice for your outfit. This type of top will give you a chic and trendy look while still being appropriate for the occasion. The metallic material will catch the light and make you stand out, without being too flashy.

When choosing a metallic halter top for a yacht party at night, there are a few things to consider. First, think about the color. Silver or gold metallic tops are classic choices and will go well with a variety of bottoms. If you prefer something more unique, try a metallic top in a bold color like rose gold or turquoise.

Next, think about the style of the metallic halter top. Look for one that has a flattering cut and fits well. A halter style is great because it showcases your shoulders and neckline, while still providing support. You can also find metallic tops with interesting details like cut-outs or embellishments, which can add some extra flair.

When it comes to styling your metallic halter top, consider pairing it with a high-waisted skirt or pants. This will help create a balanced and polished look, while also elongating your legs. You could also opt for a sleek pair of black or white pants to keep the focus on the top. Finish off your outfit with some statement accessories, like oversized earrings or a chunky bracelet, to complete your yacht party look.

Chic Combinations: Styling a Black Blazer to Perfection

For a chic and sleek look at a yacht party at night, consider wearing a pair of striped wide-leg trousers. These trousers offer a stylish and sophisticated vibe that is perfect for a glamorous event like a yacht party. The stripes add a touch of elegance and the wide-leg silhouette gives a relaxed and effortless feel.

Pair your striped wide-leg trousers with a fitted top or blouse for a balanced and flattering look. A sleek black or white top will help to keep the focus on the trousers and give a clean and polished appearance. For a more daring look, try a bold-colored top to contrast with the stripes and add a pop of color to your outfit.

Complete your look with a pair of heels or wedges to elongate your legs and add a touch of glamour. Opt for a neutral color like black or nude to keep the attention on your trousers. If you prefer a more casual look, you can also pair your wide-leg trousers with flat sandals or sneakers for a relaxed and comfortable vibe.

Accessorize your outfit with simple and elegant jewelry such as hoop earrings or a delicate necklace. Keep your makeup and hair polished and minimal to let your outfit take center stage. A sleek ponytail or loose waves will complement the relaxed feel of the wide-leg trousers.

Overall, striped wide-leg trousers are a versatile and stylish choice for a yacht party at night. Whether dressed up with heels and elegant accessories or dressed down with flats and simple jewelry, this look is sure to turn heads and make you feel confident and glamorous.

Stylish Essentials for Your Silversea Cruise Wardrobe

For a glamorous and sophisticated look at a yacht party at night, a beaded evening gown is the perfect choice. The intricate beading detail adds a touch of opulence and shimmer to the overall look. Opt for a gown with a form-fitting silhouette to flatter your figure and create an elegant and feminine silhouette.

When choosing a beaded evening gown for a yacht party, consider the color palette. Rich jewel tones like emerald green, sapphire blue, or deep purple can make a bold and statement-making choice. Alternatively, a classic black or navy gown with delicate beadwork can exude timeless elegance.

Pair your beaded evening gown with statement accessories to complete the ensemble. Opt for a pair of sparkling chandelier earrings or a statement cocktail ring for added glamour. A sleek clutch bag or a metallic minaudiere will add a touch of sophistication to your look.

To enhance the overall ensemble, consider adding a pair of strappy embellished heels or metallic sandals. These will not only elevate your height and posture but also add a touch of sparkle to your outfit. Make sure to choose a comfortable pair that allows you to dance the night away on the yacht.

Lastly, don't forget to invest in quality undergarments that will enhance the overall look of your gown. A well-fitting strapless bra, shapewear, or seamless panties can make a significant difference in how your gown fits and flatters your body. With the right undergarments, your beaded evening gown will look even more stunning at the yacht party.

For a yacht party at night, opt for a classy and elegant look. Men can go for a tailored suit or a blazer paired with dress pants and a button-down shirt. Women can opt for a chic cocktail dress or a jumpsuit with heels.

While jeans and a t-shirt may be too casual for a yacht party at night, you can still dress it up a bit. Swap the t-shirt for a collared shirt and choose a well-fitted pair of dark jeans. Complete the look with a blazer and nice shoes.

Sandals are generally considered too casual for a yacht party at night. Opt for a pair of dress shoes or loafers for a more sophisticated look. If you prefer a more relaxed vibe, you can consider boat shoes or espadrilles, which are still more appropriate than sandals.

Accessories can elevate your outfit for a yacht party at night. For men, consider wearing a stylish watch and cufflinks to add sophistication. Women can accessorize with statement jewelry, such as statement earrings or a designer clutch.

It's always a good idea to bring a jacket or wrap to a yacht party at night, as the temperatures can drop, especially out on the water. A lightweight blazer or a tailored jacket would be a stylish option for men, while women can opt for a chic wrap or a fitted blazer to stay warm and fashionable.

What to Wear on a Yacht

Ian Fortey

When you’re on a yacht you’re obviously going to dress for the weather but, in general, you want to keep it light and cool. Casual is good within reason as long as you don’t go overboard, so to speak, and it need not be formal but it shouldn’t look inappropriate or out of place. There’s no set in stone dress code for yachts

The most expensive yachts in the world cost hundreds of millions of dollars and, for most of us, that’s a bit out of reach. But that doesn’t mean we’ll never get on a yacht for a weekend charter or even a yacht party and when that happens knowing what to wear is something you may be curious about. Let’s dig into some deeper details of suitable yacht attire for men and women so you don’t have to worry about feeling self conscious when you’re living it up on a fancy yacht.

Yacht Styles Suitable for Men

yacht cocktail attire

In 80s movies you may have seen some yacht captains decked out in full formal jackets with hats and pipes and everything. You can still do that and, no word of a lie, a guy at my uncle’s yacht club used to wear the navy jacket and a captain’s hat everywhere he went for years. But most people like to keep it casual on a yacht and far less formal with a simple, casual outfit.

Linen is a popular choice for yachting because it’s very light and breezy and keeps you cool under the blazing sun. A linen shirt, like linen button downs, have a real casual but not inappropriate quality to them that has been linked to boating for years and would ensure you never look out of place.

Light cotton works just as well, of course, and something like a polo shirt wouldn’t make you stand out in a crowd, or a simple button down. Even a t-shirt wouldn’t look out of place but you’ll want to tailor that to the situation. If you’re literally just day sailing then that’s great. But if it’s a slightly more formal outing or maybe a party then you may want to keep it a little more upscale

Here’s another case where you should take the situation into account. Shorts and trunks can definitely be appropriate on a yacht but if you’re having a party in the evening then maybe consider longer pants. However, if you’re actually traveling on the yacht, especially if you’re fishing or sailing/racing, a good pair of swim shorts will do you well. Not just for the freedom and for keeping you cool but in the event of an emergency and you do end up in the water, it’s never a bad idea to be ready to swim.

Vans Boat Shoes-Zapato Del Barca

Boat shoes are a must for any boat ride. You don’t want to be skidding around on the deck in inappropriate footwear but at the same time you want to be comfortable. These are often called deck shoes as well, and they are very close to loafers with the addition of laces.

You’ll definitely see people in loafers on yachts but loafers don’t have siped soles, which means they aren’t textured to provide the proper grip on deck. If the yacht is going to be actually out there sailing and moving on the water, you want deck shoes.

Some people wear flip flops and that may be fine for a casual day with friends.

Accessories

yacht cocktail attire

You should be wearing sunglasses on a boat whether or not its a yacht just because you want to keep your eyes protected from dangerous UV rays and the glare off of the water. Polarized shades are the best but anything is better than nothing. A nice pair of aviators won’t look out of place, or some Ray Bans can be great as well.

Yacht Styles for Women

yacht cocktail attire

Traditionally the difference between men’s fashion and women’s fashion on a yacht has been one of practicality. In the past, men were the ones always controlling the yacht and women were passengers. Boating has a somewhat shady history of not being friendly to women, you’ll recall. And for that reason women were mostly seen wearing swimsuits and lounging on yachts. But if you’re a woman running the boat, you’ll likely want the same freedom and comfort that a man in a simple shirt and shorts is enjoying.

Now if you’re not piloting the boat and instead are just around to enjoy a yacht party, then swimsuits tend to be the order of the day and potentially some kind of wrap or cover up as well. Basically whatever feels most comfortable and appropriate to the occasion.

Things like kaftans, sundresses, and various wraps and coverups that would work poolside or at the beach when you’re not in the water are just as welcome on a yacht and won’t look out of place at all.  A knee length summer dress is something you’d likely see on any yacht.

Speedo Women’s Port Lightweight Breathable Water Shoe

Like men, you can get a good pair of women’s boat shoes that look a little more elegant if that’s what interests you, and they’re a good investment. Again, a boat shoe is less about appearance than function when the boat is actually in motion and you want something that gives you firm footing, which a boat shoe can do.

Both hats and sunglasses are more than appropriate for women on a yacht and offer the added protection from the sun that you’re going to want anyway. You won’t look out of place and you’ll be doing your eyes and skin a favor by keeping them away from harmful UV rays. Remember the sunscreen as well.

What to Wear to a Yacht Party

yacht cocktail attire

Now a yacht party is a different sort of monster than just being on a yacht. This will likely be a more formal occasion and that means dressing up a little. Ditching the shorts for this is probably a good idea.

Unless you have been specifically told this is a formal wear event, black tie affair don’t dress for one. Most yacht parties aren’t that formal because, well, they’re on boats. Leaning into the boat aspect is a better option. A suit would be as formal as you should expect unless told something ultra formal like a tuxedo is expected. But most yacht parties are likely to be a little more casual than that.

Consider dress pants and a button down shirt or a blazer. A sport coat and tie, maybe with a matching jacket, is also very common for parties on yachts.

A more formal occasion, a wedding for instance, will probably clue you in as to what would be expected in terms of dress. And, hopefully, your hosts are going to be gracious enough to make it clear if you do need to dress to the nines.

You can find some more formal boat shoes and, if things get a little fancier, some dress shoes that don’t have slippery soles will work as well.

Are Cocktail Dresses Appropriate for Women?

yacht cocktail attire

At the more formal end of things, a classy yacht party could very well require you to wear a cocktail dress or in rare cases even some kind of fancy gown. Cocktail attire is a little less formal than evening wear and more suited for a casual affair. Hopefully it will be made clear before you agree to show up just how formal the event is, but it’s definitely not unheard of. If it’s a party at night, and you’re going to be moored out on the water with a view of the city, for instance, a dress would be well within reason.

If things aren’t so formal as a boat wedding, then consider a wide-legged pant, a romper, a wrap skirt or really anything you’d wear to a gathering on a beach, or pool type party.

One thing you want to remember when attending any event on a yacht is to not wear heels. I’ve seen it in person and it’s a bad idea. Not that you’re guaranteed to lose your balance, but the odds are definitely leaning towards it. It’s an accident waiting to happen, so stick with flat shoes.

Are all Boat Parties the Same?

People can throw a boat party for weddings, anniversaries, charity events, retirements and probably a hundred other things. Don’t let the fact that it’s on a yacht throw you off if you’ve never attended one. A party is a party, after all.

If you’re unclear of expectations, feel free to ask. Consider bringing a sweater or light jacket just in case it gets cold and remember that good footwear is extra important on a yacht so you keep your balance. Whether it’s ultra formal or super casual, that will never change.

The Bottom Line

Classy but casual is often an easy way to approach dressing on a yacht. If it’s a party, you may need to step it up a notch, but that will really depend on the party itself and what your hosts expect. Consider linen and other very light, breathable fabrics. Remember boat shoes are the best idea to keep your grip on deck, and don’t forget swimsuits as well as sunglasses and other sun-protection gear.

What to Wear on A Yacht Dinner- Party In Style 2022

You scored an invite to a yacht party, Lucky you! Well, the next question in most people’s minds is usually ‘What do I wear,’ you don’t want to look out of place. It’s important to look and feel good while going out, and a yacht party is no different.

While for most of us choosing what to wear can be a bit intimidating, you don’t need designer wear to look good. A simple attire plus accessories can just do the trick but, always have in mind that in a boat, safety is paramount and that even includes clothing.

As a guest, you must behave and dress appropriately. For this article, we are going to delve deeper and provide a detailed guide on what you should wear on a yacht dinner, especially for night events. So, let’s fire away!

Yacht Clubwear Don’ts

Yacht club attires can vary from time to time, depending on the vent and the time of the day. Regardless, some clothing just is not acceptable regardless of how good or chic you might look on them.

For those who care about how they appear, here are some of the attires that you should always avoid:

During any mealtime, this rule applies everywhere, and a yacht dinner is no exception. Even though going to the beach, you might feel like walking bare feet, but it’s unhygienic, I always recommend wearing closed-toe shoes or sturdy sandals.

Torn or worn clothing

An attire showing signs of being torn or worn out, a loose button is a no-no! And should be left at home.

Baseball hats or other hats

When it comes to hats, Yachts’ have a preference for men removing their caps while aboard, and you can save yourself the shame of being turned away by not wearing them.

Undershirts

When choosing what shirt to wear, you might to be a little bit careful. For men, a collared shirt is appropriate, while if you feel like going casual, a polo shirt will do the trick. Tank tops for both women and men can be a little bit too skimpy as they don’t hide underwear and can be right for other occasions.

Attires for different events

Dance party.

For an evening dance party, you can go for casual nightclothes. The material of the clothing is very important; its fabric must be flowy, soft, and thin. We all know how chilly it getsnight, and Light jacket is acceptable.

For men, you can go for comfortable jeans, pants or khaki. You should accompany your pants with casual polo or a dress shirt; both options will make you look stunning and fashionable; for outwear, a light jacket is recommended.

For footwear, to complement your outfit, a Sperry men boat shoes should do the trick. Also, a non-marking shoe can go with any outfit that you decide to wear that night.

Note, a dance party is a casual affair, and wearing formal footwear is not suitable for that particular type of event.

For ladies, waist dresses and skirt with flounces is the perfect option. You can also wear colorful tops and loose pants, giving you that summer vibe, especially if the night is a bit warm.

If you want to look cuter and more girlish, you can wear a wrap or jacket that matches the colors of your outfit. You can also wear; long assorted dresses and you can pair them with earrings. However, it’s vital to avoid heavy make-up or a lot of jewelry; remember you need to look presentable for the event

For footwear, you can decide to go with flats or low-heeled sandals as they match with any type of outfit. Ladies, please avoid high-heels as they are not suitable for dancing and you want to avoid falling overboard .

Cocktail party

Cocktail attire is a bit dressier but not as formal as black-tie. For men, you can wear dress slacks together with a tie and matching jacket; you can also go with a full suit, but remember the color should be neutral or subdued rather than bright colors.

For accessories, you can go with matching footwear and a black leather belt. When it comes to shoes, you should go for black/brown leather shoes that match your belt, or Oxford styled shoes.

Loafers can also give you an attractive appearance. Here is something you should pay close attention to; your socks should match the color of your pants.

For ladies, their cocktail dresses must be mid-length or knee-length made of the subtle or solid fabric print. When it comes to the choice of color, you might want to tone it down a bit; a black dress is a perfect choice.

Another trend that is slowly gaining popularity is the women’s pantsuit. When it comes to accessorizing invest in quality jewelry, go for a singular piece statement and a clutch bag. Always avoid shoulder bags as they don’t go with the ambiance of the event.

When it comes to shoes, sandals or flats is the best choice as it will allow you to light up the dancefloor.

Business party/dinner

Whether you are meeting your workmates or going for business functions regardless of the time, evening wear is not recommended. For most parties, the dress code is usually business-casual, which tells you its more about professionalism than glamour.

When it comes to shirt options, you can wear a polo shirt or button-down that matches your khaki pants. For outwear selections, you can go to a sports coat, blazer, or sweater that can either be brown or black. Other Yacht clubs may specify you dress casually or smart.

For footwear, you can put on oxfords, flat or loafers; they are all gorgeous options.

For ladies, there are plenty of options. You can wear dress pants, a skirt or wrap dress with a long-sleeved dress that will give you a chic and elegant appearance.

When it comes to accessories, don’t overdo it; go for low-key bangles, necklaces, or earrings. On your feet, ballet flats or kitten heel are more appropriate options to go for.

Dinner party

Dinner attire is dependent on the cruise line the company’s dress code; some cruise lines may give a general guideline while others may insist on a specific outfit while others may leave that to decide for yourself.

Well, but always keep in mind that a dinner party may range anywhere from casual, resort casual, formal, or semi-formal. Depending on the stipulated guideline, you may choose what to wear.

As for gents, the formal evening outfit may include a dark suit that matches your footwear; you can also go for a tuxedo with a plain official shirt. The plain shirt should always match your pants. One of the don’ts for the dinner party is boat shoes, khakis, and polo shirts.

For the casual dress code, you can wear khakis, golf shirts, and button-ups. When it comes to footwear, you’ll never go wrong with tennis or oxford shoes; you can also accentuate your outfit by wearing a bright cardigan or pullover.

For casual dinners, the dress code is something non-collared shirts, jeans, and sneakers. You can also wear a t-shirt if the dress guideline stipulates so.

For formal dinner, women are advised to go for a Whole-length gown with nicely done hair and quality jewelry, and kitten heels will make you look like a princess. You can also go with black or white knee-length skirts and long-sleeved tops that will match your kitten heels.

When it comes to a semi-formal dinner, you can decide to go with a cocktail dress with sandals. Other attires that are appropriate for the night include capris, sundresses, knee-length skirts.

As for your feet, flip flops and stilettos are suited for the event. For a casual evening dinner, you can wear a pair of sneakers, jeans, and t-shirts. Not that swimwear’s and tank tops are too revealing and may not be suitable for the night.

Yacht attire for kids

When it comes to kids’ clothing, they should also conform to the yacht stipulated guidelines for grownups. Who wouldn’t want their kids looking dashing like the parents, we all do? You can dress your kids in the same outfit as yourself.

Final word

For a yacht dinner, different events require a variety of outfits or attires. For those going on a date night, you should always strive to adhere to the guidelines and wear something attractive that will make you feel bold, confident, and beautiful.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. how should i dress for a boat cruise party.

A. At the beginning of this article, I have mentioned some tips on styling for a boat party which you might find helpful. For a cruise specifically, it depends upon the type of cruise you will be attending. For a fancier, luxury cruise, check out looks number 2 and 5. On the other hand, outfits 21 and 17 will be perfect for a casual day cruise with the gang! Always remember to dress according to the plan. If your cruise comes with a swim stop, then choose to wear your swimsuit under your outfit of choice!

Q. What do you wear on a boat at night?

A. A boat night party requires you to look at your outfit options from a different approach. I can not emphasize this enough, but an essential clothing item to carry, especially during winters, is a jacket or a windbreaker to keep you warm. Next, I would suggest wearing colors that pop and make you stand out. For a casual look, jeans or shorts with a crop top layered with a cozy sweater is ideal. In comparison, a flowy dress or a chic jumpsuit would be perfect for a fancier event.

Q. Where can I buy comfortable outfits for a boat party?

A. The best places to shop for boat party outfits are listed right here!

  • SheIn: This striped matching two piece outfit ( here ) is an absolute yes for the boat party!

The unspoken rules about how to behave on a superyacht

  • The superyachting world is very small, with only 5,800 yachts longer than 30 meters at sea.
  • That insularity has bred a specific etiquette, which is often hard for outsiders to know about.
  • These are the de facto rules of the most expensive billionaire toys, superyachts .

Insider Today

For the owners of superyachts , privacy is often the most valuable thing money can buy. It's one reason centimillionaires and billionaires pay eight or nine figures for a palace at sea, far from the prying eyes of land dwellers.

Even the most gossipy crew members should stay tight-lipped about the name of a former owner or charter guest, and many brokers shy away from answering benign questions.

That means that, aside from basic safety guidelines, most of the rules of superyachting are unwritten. The very few who need to know them — there are only about 5,800 yachts longer than 30 meters at sea, according to SuperYacht Times — already know them.

But if you do happen to be a lucky guest at a party on a billionaire's $500 million ship or find yourself included in a $1 million-a-week vacation, there are a few things you need to know.

After four days of touring superyachts that sell for as much as $75 million and chatting with the people who buy, sell, and work on them at the Palm Beach International Boat Show , Business Insider gleaned a few key edicts. Given the discreet nature of the industry, almost all the people we spoke with requested anonymity to protect their working relationships, but here's what they had to say.

Take off your shoes

While it's a basic rule for anyone in boating, it may come as a surprise to an outsider that no matter how rich you are or how expensive your heels are, in the vast majority of cases, you can't wear shoes on board.

It's partly for safety — you don't want anyone slipping on a wet deck — but partly to keep the yacht clean. So expect to see barefoot billionaires, and if you forgot to get a pedicure, bring a set of special boat shoes.

Don't make any assumptions about money — but know the signs

In the superyacht world, it's safe to assume almost everyone you meet is very, very rich, and many brokers and builders say you can't judge a book by its cover when it comes to prospective clients.

"It has nothing to do with how they're dressed," one broker told BI. "It's the biggest mistake you can make because a complete slobby-looking guy or couple could be a multibillionaire."

There are, however, a few clues. Watches are one; new footwear is another.

"Rich people always have new shoes," a superyacht expert said. But because of the shoe rule mentioned above, this tip probably applies only when they're on land.

Book your massage early

Wellness areas, including spa rooms with a massage bed or two and a professional-grade facial machine, are becoming must-haves on superyachts . Most have a customized spa menu and a crew member who doubles as a trained masseuse or beautician — and they're usually in high demand.

One captain said he'd implemented a booking system to ensure people weren't fighting for the same spots. A broker said sometimes masseuses would be so busy they wouldn't leave the small spa cabin for hours on end.

Related stories

So if you want to make the most of your relaxing time on board, reserve your pampering slot as soon as you get your welcome cocktail.

Pirates are more real than you'd think, and many superyachts have hidden safe rooms

While you might dress up as a fake pirate for an onboard theme party, there are very real ones — and other dangers — on the high seas.

In certain areas, including parts of the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden, pirates are a cause of concern . In the Red Sea, owners are concerned about the Houthis .

Superyachts can come equipped with sonic weaponry, lockdown systems, and anti-drone protection. Builders are even designing safe rooms — which are apparently just as plush as the rest of the ship.

The longer the boat, the closer to $1 billion

While you can't judge a buyer based on appearances, you can judge them on the length of their boat.

One rule of thumb: If someone has a brand-new 50-meter vessel, chances are they have $1 billion to their name. If it's over 100 meters, expect the owner to have at least $2 billion. And for a boat bigger than that — like Jeff Bezos' 127-meter megayacht Koru — it takes many, many billions.

Money can't buy you everything

The world's biggest, most expensive yachts are custom-built by shipyards that produce only a handful of boats a year.

But no matter how many tens of millions of dollars clients are spending, there are things to which builders will refuse to say yes.

"In the end, the boat has our name," an executive from one of the world's biggest shipyards told BI.

They recalled a client who requested a yellow hull to match his Lamborghini . The shipyard declined, steering the client in another direction.

"If I don't like it, I don't build it. I finalize two or three contracts a year," another builder said. "If somebody can say your vessel is ugly, my reputation is bad."

Yacht crews are trained to make the impossible possible. A guest requests fresh caviar flown into the middle of the Caribbean? No problem. Fresh flowers every day while at sea? It'll cost you, but it can be done.

But they can't time travel, and captains and crew members say the thing that causes the most friction is when a client or owner wants to go from point A to point B — right now.

"The hardest request is when they want the boat in a place — yesterday," one captain said.

The best person to know? A friend with a superyacht

Superyachts are expensive to build and expensive to maintain . According to the industry standard, owning a superyacht will cost 10% of its new-build price annually. For a $100 million yacht, that's at least $10 million yearly going to crew, regular maintenance, insurance, fuel, and dockage.

Chartering, too, is costly . Beyond the list price, which can be hundreds of thousands a week, guests must pay for provisions, which are pegged at 35% of the charter fee, and are expected to tip between 10% and 20%.

So the most important unspoken rule of superyachting is actually that the only thing better than owning a superyacht is knowing someone else who does — and invites you along, of course.

Yule Mule (Cranberry Holiday Mule with Rosemary Syrup)

Published: Nov 10, 2023 · Last Updated: Nov 11, 2023

Sharing is caring!

When you’ve been crafting homemade cocktails for over a decade, people tend to ask you for advice on holiday entertaining. Entertaining during the holiday months is always a bit of a different feat than other year-round entertaining. Stakes can be high— maybe it’s the fact that you’re surrounded by people you only see at this time of year (who keep asking you the same three questions about your job/relationship/life 🙄). Whatever it is, you need recipes that you know will work, and this Yule Mule, or Cranberry Moscow Mule, recipe is one you'll want to keep around! This classic cocktail gets an update with a blast of rosemary flavor to complement the cranberry and ginger.

A hand from out of frame grabs a copper mule style glass filled with a Yule Mule cocktail.

This rosemary simple syrup inspired this recipe, because most Christmas cocktails are garnished with rosemary but don’t actually contain any rosemary which is… weird ! A garnish should serve as a hint or a “flavor clue” for what the drinker can expect to taste. By adding in rosemary simple syrup , we can play up the herbaceous and wintery vibes! Try also making some cranberry ice cubes to amp up the festive factor in this drink and give your aunt Linda something else to ask you about at the dinner table. 😅

🎁  fun & festive . This is the perfect cocktail for getting into the holiday spirit! The festive flavors of cranberry and rosemary mix together with ginger beer and vodka to make the perfect Christmas mule!

🎛️  customizable.  While traditional Moscow mules are made using vodka, you can use whatever liquor you like! This is a great cocktail for parties because each guest can choose their favorite liquor!

🥳  party perfect.  When you’re entertaining during the holiday season, its always convenient to have a big batch cocktail at the ready. This Christmas mule is perfect for scaling up to serve a crowd using either a pitcher or a punch bowl!

Ingredients used to make a Yule Mule cocktail sit on a wooden cutting board on a green countertop. The photo is labeled with names of each ingredient.

for the drink

  • rosemary simple syrup - Rosemary simple syrup helps to give an herbaceous flavor to this holiday mule that is sure to surprise your guests! It adds a layer of warmth that is hard to replicate, so it’s definitely worthwhile to take the extra time to whip up a batch!
  • cranberry juice - Choose a nice quality unsweetened cranberry juice if you are able to, not a cranberry juice cocktail blend. Check the label on your juice, sometimes brands will use a blend of apple or grape juice instead of just cranberries.
  • ginger beer - Even though the name suggests it, ginger beer doesn’t actually contain alcohol. It used to, in the days it was made from fermenting ginger with sugar and yeast. But nowadays, it’s a carbonated soda containing real ginger. The spice of the ginger beer gives this drink a bit of bite and an extra kick compared to ginger ale. Make sure to choose a brand that does contain real ginger, not ginger extract or ginger flavor. I love using Betty Buzz ginger beer. Fever Tree also makes a nice ginger beer, but make sure ginger root is on the ingredient label for the best flavor!
  • vodka - Vodka has a clean flavor profile that really lets the cranberry flavor sing loud and proud. While you don’t need to go to the tippy top of the shelf for this cocktail, it’s wise to choose a good quality vodka like Absolut or Tito’s. If you want to splurge, Grey Goose and Ketel One are great top-shelf brands of vodka.
  • lime - You’ll need fresh lime juice for this cocktail. Fresh juice really makes a difference, but if you can’t find good limes near you (it happens!) you can use bottled lime juice in a pinch.

for the garnish

  • cranberries - you will need 3 fresh cranberries per cocktail as a garnish. You can also make some cranberry ice cubes if you have extra berries after making these drinks, or you can make a batch of cranberry simple syrup for other festive drinks!
  • rosemary - make sure to have one sprig of rosemary for each cocktail. If you are able to grow rosemary near you, it’s a worthwhile herb to grow! It is hearty and is a wonderful herb to have as part of a culinary or cocktail herb garden! If you can’t grow rosemary, you can usually find it for sale in a clamshell at your local grocery store. You may need to buy a couple packages to get enough rosemary sprigs if you’re making multiples.

See the recipe card for quantities.

Step 1 : Prepare the garnish by spearing three cranberries onto a sprig of rosemary. You may need to strip the rosemary of the leaves on the bottom to make room for the cranberries.

Step 7: Top with 4 ounces of ginger beer, or enough to fill the glass.

Step 8: Garnish with your rosemary and cranberries, and serve immediately.

Hint: Rosemary is a strong flavor, but it is balanced in this cocktail by the tart flavors of cranberry and lime juice! If you need your drink to be sweeter, you can always add in more ginger beer in place of more simple syrup.

🍽️ serving tips

How and where to serve your yule mules.

  • Holiday Parties - this is the perfect drink for the Christmas season! Serve it at your next holiday party or any of your happy hours throughout November and December!
  • Christmas Movie Night - not up to hosting? No worries! Cozy up with a pitcher of mules for your next holiday movie marathon. After all, Hallmark movie tears are salty, so you’ll need something to sweeten things up.

Choose your glass

  • mule mug, highball glass, or collins glass - you’ll need a cup that can hold at least 12 - 16 ounces of liquid for this Yule Mule. The custom glass of choice is a copper Moscow mule mug. Want to really make an impression? Try serving this in glass mugs with cranberry ice cubes!
  • chill out - chill your glass if you have an extra 15 minutes by popping it in the freezer or filling it with ice while you prepare the remaining ingredients.
  • A sprig of rosemary spears three cranberries, making the perfect garnish for your Yule Mules!
  • The rosemary gives a clever flavor clue to your guests, while also hinting at the whole “Christmas tree” thing!
  • No rosemary? No problem! Use a lime wedge to garnish this drink if you can’t find fresh rosemary and cranberries near you!

ℹ️ troubleshooting tips

While mixing up cocktails can generally be straightforward, things can go awry! Thankfully, things are a bit easier to fix compared to cooking mishaps. Try these troubleshooting tips if your cranberry mules didn’t come out quite right.

  • too tart - if your cocktail is too tart, it’s possible that your limes were very acidic. Citrus varies widely in flavor, depending on when and where your limes were harvested. Use more simple syrup or ginger beer to balance things out.
  • too sweet - If your drink is too sweet, add in more lime juice, cranberry juice, or vodka to balance the sweetness out.
  • too weak - not boozy enough for you? Add in more vodka, .5 ounces at a time, until you get the desired balance of booze you’re after!

⚖️ Scaling Tips

Making this cocktail for a party? Follow these instructions (and the ones in the recipe card below) to make a pitcher of Yule Mules!

  • Combine the base of the cocktail by mixing together the lime juice, vodka, rosemary simple syrup, and cranberry juice.
  • Refrigerate the base mixture for up to 24 hours.
  • Just before serving, pour 4 ounces of the cocktail base into each glass, filled with ice.
  • Top each glass with ginger beer and garnish with a rosemary sprig that has 3 cranberries on it.

If you are making these for a crowd, make one drink first as a tester!

Taste your cocktail just before serving to determine if you need any more ginger beer or simple syrup.

Lime juice can be very acidic, so if your limes are extra tart or tangy, you may want to use extra simple syrup or ginger beer to balance things out.

♻️ substitutions

Missing an ingredient? No problem. Check out these tried-and-true substitutions, or comment below with your question. I’m here to help you troubleshoot!

  • simple syrup - description of how to substitute
  • ginger ale - Ginger ale is acceptable to swap for ginger beer if you can’t find it near you or if you prefer a more subtle ginger flavor.
  • lemon or orange - If you can’t find fresh limes near you, or none of them look quite…right at the local grocery store, you can substitute using lemon or orange juice! In fact, orange juice goes perfectly with cranberry! Want a little extra something in your cocktail? Try adding a few dashes of orange bitters!

🎛️ variations

Feeling like a rebel?! 😈 Feel free to stray from the recipe card using these variations, or leave me a comment with your own!

  • extra gingery - add in .5 - 1 ounce of ginger liqueur for an extra burst of ginger flavor!
  • add cranberry liqueur - cranberry liquor is a fantastic way to play up the flavor of cranberry in this cocktail! One of my favorite brands is Tattersall Cranberry Liqueur! Add .5 - 1 ounce of cranberry liqueur for an additional blast of berry!
  • use another liquor - you can use rum, whiskey, or even tequila for this mule! Stick to a clear liquor for a more pure taste. An aged liquor like rum or whiskey will add more depth of flavor, which can be a nice addition! Spiced rum would also be wonderful in this cocktail.

🧰 tools needed to make Yule Mules

  • Moscow mule mug - the traditional glass for a Moscow mule is a copper mule mug. Legend has it that the girlfriend of the guy who invented the Moscow Mule had a factory warehouse full of copper mugs she needed to use up. Ever since Moscow mules have been served in copper mugs! You can use any glass on hand that can hold up to 16 ounces of liquid, like a highball glass or Collins glass. I also love using double-walled glasses or insulated tumblers since this drink is extra frosty.
  • cocktail spoon - this cocktail is super easy to make because you can mix it right in the mug! All you need is a cocktail mixing spoon to stir things up! Of course, you can use a regular spoon if you don’t have a cocktail mixing spoon . But, if you’re trying to look super professional and wow your friends and family, a cocktail mixing spoon is an easy way to look like a pro for less than 10 bucks! 😉
  • cocktail shaker - this is an optional extra if you want to prepare a batch of mules at the same time. You can mix the base ingredients for 2-3 mules in a shaker then pour 4 ounces of liquid into each cup and top with ginger beer!

🫙 storage tips

It’s best to enjoy this cocktail shortly after it’s made.

However, if you make a large batch and have leftovers, you can store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Be make sure to stir well before serving again.

Cranberry juice cocktial is cranberry juice mixed with water and sugar. Cranberry juice is usually 100% pure unsweetened cranberry juice, so it’s tart just like a cranberry is!

I won’t force you to, I promise! It is worthwhile to take the extra 15 minutes to mix it up, but I understand not wanting to dirty any additional pots and pans. If you want to skip making the syrup, but you still want the rosemary flavor, you can muddle a sprig of fresh rosemary with the vodka and lime juice to get a bit of that wonderful herbaceous flavor in your cup!

Rosemary has a very “green” and herby flavor with hints of warmth and citrus. Too much of it can taste soapy, like lavender, so be sure to follow the instructions for making your rosemary simple syrup!
