When the 71 metre motor yacht The One was launched in 1973, she was one of the most admired yachts of that decade, strongly influencing subsequent yacht designs. Her development was also the first design project of these large dimensions for Jon Bannenberg – often dubbed the godfather of modern yacht design – who developed many of the well-known yachts in operation today. One of the yacht’s outstanding characteristics was the combination of speed, style and luxury in a way that had never existed before. She reached 28 knots, – amazing for a displacement of 650 tons. And to this day, she has not lost any of her striking visual appeal in the slightest.

ONE is a 34.11 m Motor Yacht, currently being built in Netherlands by Van Der Valk and recently launched (soon to be delivered in 2024).

Her top speed is 14.4 kn and her cruising speed is 13.5 kn and her power comes from two Volvo Penta diesel engines. She can accommodate up to 10 guests in 5 staterooms, with 6 crew members waiting on their every need. She has a gross tonnage of 298.0 GT and a 7.7 m beam.

She was designed by Guido De Groot , who has designed 27 other superyachts in the BOAT Pro database.

The naval architecture was developed by Ginton Naval Architects (45 other superyachts architected) and Diana Yacht Design (82 other superyachts architected), and the interior of the yacht was designed by Carla Guilhem Design - she is built with a Teak deck, a Aluminium hull, and Aluminium superstructure.

When delivered, ONE will join a fleet of 2101 motor yachts in the 30-35m size range. Compared to similarly sized motor yachts, her volume will be 111.6 GT above the average.

ONE is registered under the United States of America flag, the most popular flag state for superyachts with a total of 1647 yachts registered

The yacht’s name was changed four times, but JFK coined the enduring Honey Fitz . The moniker was reportedly inspired by his maternal grandfather John Francis Fitzgerald. Kennedy frequently went cruising on Honey Fitz with his family. Former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis even redesigned the interiors in the early 1960s.

In 1971, the U.S. government sold Honey Fitz to a private owner. The vessel then fell into various states of repair and disrepair, until entrepreneur Charles R. Modica stubbled across it in 2020. He and his team decided to stop the nearly century-old cruiser from completely deteriorating and returned it to its former glory via an extensive, three-year restoration. Historical functioning parts from the 1930s, World War II, and the presidential eras from 1945 to 1971 can still be seen throughout the ship.

Honey Fitz offers the glitz and glamor befitting a world leader, too. The yacht, which can comfortably accommodate up to 35 guests, features a spacious main salon, a fully equipped galley, a plush stateroom, and a glorious sundeck. It is also outfitted with a state-of-the-art navigation system and the latest safety equipment.

The elegant wooden vessel is particularly suited to weddings, private parties, and corporate events, but nothing’s stopping you from taking it for a spin as a pretend president. Charter cruises depart from the Pelican Club.

Council to consider final design plans for the Cape Coral Yacht Club Wednesday

Renovation of the Cape Coral Yacht Club will move ahead if Cape Coral City Council approves the final design and construction documents at its Wednesday meeting.

This resolution, 194-24, authorizes a fourth amendment between the city and Kimly Horn and Associates at a not-to-exceed amount of $7,316,186.96.

The original contract, not to exceed $3,204,076 with a 5% contingency for additional services of $160,204 for a project cost of $3,364,280. The first amendment – not to exceed $773,072 was approved, the second amendment had no change in the projects amount, and the third amendment was not to exceed $129,708.

The fishing pier at the Yacht Club also is among Council’s agenda items. This resolution brings forth a sixth amendment for the final design, construction documents and construction services of the fish pier at a not-to-exceed amount of $386,161.30 to Kimley Horne and Associates. The current plan is to keep the pier at the same location and height as existing, but with new concrete pilings.

In June 2023, Council approved an amendment to resolution 152-23 “to design additional design phase services at the Cape Coral Yacht Club, which included the fuel tank replacement design, deconstruction preservation of the buildings and master plan update.

If all three are approved, the project total for this phase will be $12,011,506.14.

Also on the agenda:

• Resolution 223-24 which calls for additional soil testing and geotechnical engineering “related to the disturbance of the former landfill at the Lake Kennedy parking lot site,” at a cost not to exceed $42,097.88.

• A public hearing establishing the rates for water, wastewater, and irrigation services. The resolution would provide for the “first three years rate adjustments for all commodity and capacity rates to increase 11% per year other than the irrigation are set at $9.50 per month.”

Another charge is for site non-compliance for meter install changed from $269.28 to 50% of meter install fee chargeable only if the city installs within 10 days of meter install request.

The Council meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, in City Council Chambers, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd. The meeting is open to the public.

A bloodied Donald J. Trump made Secret Service agents wait while he expressed his defiance. The moment epitomized his visceral connection with his supporters, and his mastery of the modern media age.

Donald J. Trump was back on his feet. He had just been shot at, his white shirt was undone and his red hat was no longer on his head. Blood streaked across his face as riflemen patrolled the perimeter of the stage. A pack of Secret Service agents pressed their bodies against his. “We’ve got to move, we’ve got to move,” one pleaded.

“Wait, wait, wait, wait,” the former president instructed, his voice a harried — but startlingly clear — command. Reluctantly, they halted. He peered out into the crowd.

And then his arm reached toward the sky, and he began punching the air.

The crowd started to chant — “ U-S-A! U-S-A! ” — as the agents inched Mr. Trump toward the stairs. When they reached the top step, they paused once more, so Mr. Trump could lift his arm a little higher, and pump his fist a little faster. The crowd roared a little louder.

It’s difficult to imagine a moment that more fully epitomizes Mr. Trump’s visceral connection with his supporters, and his mastery of the modern media age.

Mr. Trump would not leave the stage without signaling to his fans that he was OK — even as some were still wailing in fear. And he did not just wave or nod, he raised his fist in defiance above his bloodied face — making an image history will not forget.

He has always been highly conscious of how he looks in big moments, practicing his Clint Eastwood squint and preparing for his mean mug-shot grimace. But there was no time to prepare for this.

This was instinct.

As the agents coaxed him onto his feet, he stammered, “Let me get my shoes on, let me get my shoes on.”

“I got you, sir, I got you, sir,” an agent replied. Mr. Trump rose, his voice uneven at first, still repeating himself: “Let me get my shoes on.”

“Hold that on your head,” an agent told him, “it’s bloody.”

“Sir, we’ve got to move to the cars,” another said.

“Let me get my shoes on,” Mr. Trump said again.

Fierce one moment, he looked drained and stricken the next.

After the agents managed to hustle him off the stage, they led him toward an idling Chevrolet Suburban. He began to clamber inside, but before the door could close, he turned back toward the crowd again. His head appeared more blood-soaked than before. He raised his fist one more time.
