Love Story:

How did you two meet.

When Katie was a Freshman and Lee was a Senior at UF they briefly met at a party. Their friendship in their college days was short-lived (so short that they both did not remember each other but have a group picture to confirm). However, they both moved to Atlanta for their first jobs post college and rekindle their friendship.

For the first time in 4 years, Katie was sad to not be at the Swamp for a home Gator game, but her friend invited her over for a tailgate. When she walked in, she saw a couple familiar faces, but the one that stood out the most was Lee Gubernick holding a Gold Four Loko! Katie and Lee hung out the entire day, but eventually lost each other at the Gator Bar without getting each other’s numbers. A couple Gator Games later… 

Katie called her friend to see what the boys were doing for gameday and mentioned she was going to the Gator Bar with her friends to watch. Supposedly, the boys had other plans for the day, but Lee begged his friends to go to the bar Katie was at instead. Then, he finally asked Katie for her number and out on a date! From then on, they were inseparable. 

Their love took them all over the world from Chicago to Punta Cana and even across the pond to Barcelona and Lisbon. The only thing that slowed down their travel was the addition of their amazing pup Allie…….. and Covid. After a few years in Atlanta, the couple decided to move back down to Florida where both of their families were located. Lee proposed a month later at the Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island with both of their parents present, and a surprise appearance by Katie's best friend (shoutout Courtney).

How did he propose?

On the beach in the drizzling rain. I was so confused why he wanted to go out on the beach so badly, but then quickly saw the set up and understood!

Wedding planning:

How did you decide on your color scheme, flowers, and cake.

After visiting the venue, the color scheme came easily. We knew we wanted to match the greenery tone of the venue with the simple green and white flowers, but then decide to go with Dusty Blue Bridesmaid dresses for a subtle pop of color. 

As for the cake, we came in knowing we wanted a layer or chocolate Oreo and a layer of the classic vanilla with raspberry. However, we put zero thought into the actual look of the cake until meeting with our vendor. Ultimately, we decided to incorporate our pup on the top of the cake and keep the rest simple. It was the perfect way to include our little pup!

How did you decide on your invitations, and who did you use?

We bought our invites on Zazzle. We decided to keep with the greenery theme and found invites that had a pop of dusty blue. It was perfect for the theme.

What was the most fun part of wedding planning?

Picking out the band! We went to watch a couple showcases to decide how many band members we would like to have for the night. Once we decided on the band, we invited my parents to a showcase and my mom teared up at some of the songs. It is a great memory!

Which part did you not like as much?

We hated finalizing the guest list… As most know, it is hard to please everyone and draw the line with friends and family.

What are the biggest pieces of advice you wish you would have known before the wedding day?

It is okay if it rains on your wedding day – you will forget about it and have the best time ever once you get to socializing!

No matter how much planning/backup you have, something will likely go wrong. Have a contact person to handle it all and do not get involved.

In your words, can you give a storyline of your wedding day?

The girls had breakfast in Katie’s suite at the Hyatt and then headed to the venue to get ready. While the girls were getting ready, they enjoyed a mimosa bar and pinwheel sandwiches. The boys got ready in the hotel suite and then headed over to Epping Forest around 2 to begin taking pictures.

The photographer snapped pictures of the groomsmen and bridesmaids separately until it was finally time for the first look. The moment Katie and Lee had been looking forward to their whole lives. As both got in position outside and just when Katie was about to walk down the stairs, it began to rain out of nowhere! 

The first look was postponed about an hour as the group waited for the rain to subside. Once, the rain had finally stopped the couple was able to do their first look and it was perfect! The rain held off the rest of the night and the couple was able to have their dream ceremony outside. It was everything they wanted and more. 

The ceremony was followed by a night of dancing and drinks, surrounded by their best friends and family! Katie and Lee could not be happier with the way everything turned out and feel so lucky to spend the rest of their lives together smiling, laughing, and side by side with their best friend.

What was the high point of your wedding day that you hope to remember forever?

I hope to remember forever the excitement and joy all our closest family and friends had when we were announced as Mr. and Mrs. for the first time. It was an incredible feeling to see people from all different phases of our lives come together to celebrate us.

A Preppy Waterfront Wedding at Epping Forest Yacht Club in Jacksonville, Florida

Several years after Laura Neal (38 and vice president of communications) William (Billy) Schroder IV (43 and vice president of player relations) met at wore, the PGA Tour, and bonded over their church, they became engaged. The couple was visiting Billy’s family lake house in Georgia when Billy gave Laura a hand written note, dropped to one knee and popped the question with a diamond cross. They worked to plan a preppy wedding accented in navy, white and yellow over the next year. “Billy has been sailing since he was a kid and I’m learning – thanks to his passion for being on the water and our sailboat, the Southern Cross. So we almost immediately went with a nautical feel for everything,” says Laura. The couple chose Epping Forest Yacht Club as their venue. More than 130 white folding chairs surrounded the outdoor ceremony space as pomanders of white hydrangea and yellow spray roses lined the aisle. After they were wed, the couple and their 135 guests were treated to an outdoor reception filled with a variety of appetizers and treats. “We love food. There's no other way to say it! So the menu was very important to us,” says Laura. The couple served a variety of appetizers, including lamb lollipops and mini-grilled cheeses with tomato soup shooters, and made-to order seafood or chicken paella for dinner. A s'mores bar, popcorn bar, three-tier white and navy wedding cake made by the bride and a chocolate University of Georgia-themed groom’s cake were also available. Laura and Billy's guests also had a surprise for the couple. They switched to Laura’s favorite shoes, Converse by the end of the reception. “My sister even stole a few pairs from my closet earlier in the week to loan to people!” says Laura. The couple spent the rest of their night dancing to a live band, Bread & Butter, watching college football inside the venue and playing a game of giant Jenga. For Laura and Billy, the night ended with a sparkler exit and boat ride around the bay. Guests who took the couple’s late-night shuttle were later treated to tacos, chips and salsa from a local TacoLu food truck.

When you’ve got a bride who works in the fashion industry as a designer, you can bet your bottom dollar you’re about to see one stylish wedding. Bride Dana did not disappoint in a custom Inbal Dror gown, surrounded by wildflowers and dried arrangements from Foxy Posh Events , and captured by Christina Block Photography . Let’s learn more about this beautiful couple, shall we?

From the bride, Dana: We actually met 10 years ago when I was in college. I was 20 and he was 29. He grew up with my sister’s husband; they’ve actually been best friends since high school. We tried dating then but the age gap was a little too much. Fast-forward 10 years, my mom started asking my sister and brother-in-law, “Whatever happened to your friend Jason?” This went on for almost 9 months until my brother-in-law finally agreed to try and set us up one more time! We spoke for the first time that November and were married 8 months later. To us, marriage was a choice, a conscious choice that we were making to give each other our lives and no longer be one, but two. Neither of us needed each other; we wanted each other. To us, that meant sacrifice, commitment, a whole lot of love and friends forever. Our wedding took place at the duPont Mansion in Jacksonville, Florida at Epping Forest Yacht Club. The home was built in 1926 and has been preserved with all of its original architecture and furnishings inside and gardens kept behind the house. We were married in the gardens and held the reception inside the duPont’s original dining room space.

Our theme for the wedding was simplicity at its best. We wanted all of the flowers, table decorations, even bridesmaid and grooms attire to be original and something that felt unique and effortless. Most of the flowers were picked from a garden or found in open fields, the tables were filled with old glass bottles that me and my mother and florist gathered. We used my great grandmothers journals to make paper cones that held the petals to throw as we were leaving. All of my bridesmaid dresses were original pieces I had collected over the years during my travels to London, Italy, Hong Kong and various parts of Asia. Each part of the wedding was simple but held special memories to both of us. Living in NYC, every day you are inspired by the city, the people, the energy, etc. I also work in the industry as a designer so there was almost too much inspiration! At some point, I had to stop myself and just go with the first decision I had made. Each of my bridesmaids received handbags I designed. Depending on the girl, I gave either totes or minaudieres. All of the groomsmen were gifted their ties for the wedding. We wanted to be sure the gifts were practical and would actually be used again. Wedding favors for guests were a pair of old school Ray-Ban shades. We figured since the wedding was outside, in Florida, in the month of July, the least we could do to help them keep cool was provide shades! We used a variety of raw materials including wooden chairs, overgrown vines to line the aisle and the gardens natural elements to create the space for the ceremony. The reception took place inside the duPont mansion where most of the original pieces of furniture were kept. These, combined with clusters of vintage glass bottles holding various wildflowers and candles, set the mood for the reception. We used my grandmother’s china from the 60’s with a vintage floral pattern as our flatware.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Be present…. the day, the week of goes by so fast and all those small details you are worried about will not matter when its all over. Take each moment in and enjoy. It should one of the best days of your life.

We started out the day as wedding photographers and newlyweds and ended the night as friends. These two found the perfect balance of romance and fun during their wedding day. Would you believe us if we said there was a silent disco at their reception? It was an absolute honor to capture Mackenzie and Andrew’s love as they said their vows and danced the night away!

Even though we didn’t meet them in person until the day of our wedding, it felt like we had been friends forever!
