He nicknamed his future ride "Buddy" and had it brought in from Canada. Unfortunately, the Department of Homeland Security snatched it up before he could board it .

The reason: Arrington says he noticed an error on the paperwork and refused to sign it until it was fixed. His boat was seized instead.

Bonus: Mike Arrington really wanted a big boat but the government swooped in and took it away.

See Mark Cuban's 288-foot yacht with basketball court on the stern

@jdrifts

If you were on Mark Cuban's level, there's you no question you'd roll in style. But would you roll in this much style?

Cuban's 288-foot yacht "Fountainhead" recently was docked outside of Miami hotel the Epic.

If you were walking along outside the hotel, it would be pretty hard to miss this boat.

The Mavs owner is clearly ready to host his players at all times as there is a basketball hoop attached to the stern. Because if a Mav takes a vacation on a yacht the first thing on his mind is practicing on the water, right?

Have to wonder how it feels to be a Miami Heat fan and down on the water is gigantic reminder of the team that beat the locals in the 2011 finals.

Miami Yacht Watch: The glorious Fountainhead returns

Not owned by Mark Cuban but Sears CEO Eddie Lampert

A post shared by Buster Bark (@busterbark) on Jul 9, 2017 at 8:12am PDT

Miami is a common host for extravagant yachts at all times of the year. Track these magnificent vessels and their outlandish toys with Miami Yacht Watch , which typically runs weekly on Curbed Miami.

The 288-foot Fountainhead, which has been mistakingly tied to Dallas Mavericks owner and Shark Tank star Mark Cuban as its proprietor, has returned to Miami from Port Everglades.

Currently docked at Island Gardens Deep Harbour Marina on Watson Island, the extravagant superyacht valued at an estimated $130 million actually belongs to billionaire Sears CEO Eddie Lampert, who apparently tells people — in jest — Cuban is the owner, according to the New York Post .

“The guy who owns the boat tells everyone that it’s mine,” Cuban told Page Six. “It’s so crazy . . . I don’t even own a boat.”

Heightening the false rumor is the fact Fountainhead features a basketball hoop on its aft. The yacht is somehow only the 72nd largest in the world, per Boat International . Fountainhead is equipped to house 14 guests and additionally includes a library, a recreation room, a full gym and health club, and a contra-flow swimming pool.

Measuring 288 feet, the Cayman Island-registered Fountainhead  boasts four decks, a sonar and radar tower, as well as half-court basketball court onboard. Purchased in 2012, the boat is a sister ship to Oracle CEO Larry Ellison's  Musashi, a ccording to a recent Forbes  article .

Cuban also owns Landmark Theaters and Magnolia Pictures but gained fame as owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks. Known for his outspoken criticism of the league and his popularity among players, Cuban has become one of the most recognized owners in all of sports. Additionally, he also serves as a judge on the ABC entrepreneurial show "Shark Tank."

It is unclear as to whether Cuban is currently on board and why the ship has remained anchored here since early June.

On the reality show "Shark Tank," budding entrepreneurs get the chance to bring their dreams to fruition. They present their ideas to the sharks in the tank -- five titans of industry. Each contestant tries to persuade one of the sharks to invest in their idea.

Mark Cuban doesn't spend his billions on yachts, butlers, or chauffeurs because more staff means 'no privacy'

  • Mark Cuban got candid about how he spends his fortune with podcast host Bobbi Althoff on Thursday.
  • The billionaire says he still prefers to do his own chores and drive himself places.
  • Unlike fellow elites, Cuban doesn't own a luxury yacht, but he still makes pricey purchases.

Insider Today

Billionaire businessman Mark Cuban doesn't want to let his financial status change him, and he's gone out of his way to maintain a normal life.

The 65-year-old owner of the Dallas Mavericks is worth an estimated $5.1 billion, according to Forbes. However, on an episode of "The Really Good Podcast," Cuban said he avoids certain habits that are associated with the exorbitantly rich.

"I just try to be the same person, I mean, as I was when I was poor, middle, and rich," Cuban told podcast host Bobbi Althoff.

In his quest for normality, he said, he doesn't hire staff to clean his home, cook his meals, or drive for him. He described purchasing a yacht as "just not what I would do." The investor added that more staff often means less privacy for elites who employ large teams.

"I like the privacy," Cuban said. "I've been around people who hire somebody to do everything for them, and that's just, like, no privacy."

Cuban's preferences differ from his fellow billionaires who spend hundreds of millions on luxury yachts . In 2016, he corrected assumptions that he owned a 288-foot yacht in an interview with Page Six.

"The guy who owns the boat tells everyone that it's mine," Cuban said. "It's so crazy ... I don't even own a boat."

Although Cuban is against spending his fortune on yachts, he still makes purchases that only the ultrawealthy can. In 2021, for example, he purchased an entire 77-acre Texas town about 55 miles south of Dallas.

After spending an undisclosed amount on the land, Cuban told local reporters he wasn't sure what he'd end up using it for — if he used it all.

Watch: Cuban link chains are a symbol of luxury and wealth. Here's why they're so expensive.

Was that Mark Cuban’s yacht in Boston Harbor?

does mark cuban have a yacht

Dallas Mavericks owner and television personality Mark Cuban insists — really insists — that a massive, 288-foot-long yacht, complete with a basketball hoop, that had been docked in Boston waters is in no way, shape, or form his vessel.

Boston police Monday begged to differ. They shared on social media an image of kids leaning out from the side of a boat on the harbor, staring up at a glistening yacht they believed belonged to Cuban.

“The kids got a kick out of seeing [Dallas Mavericks’] Mark Cuban’s yacht in Boston Harbor!,” police said on Twitter .

The children were on the police boat, marveling at the large vessel and its many shiny components, as part of the police department’s summertime Jr. Police Academy program. It was unclear when the image was taken. Police did not immediately return a request for comment.

It seems the yacht has since left the Boston area. It was logged Monday as being docked in Portland, Maine, according to MarineTraffic.com .

But were they actually looking at Cuban’s boat?

The “Is-that-Mark-Cuban’s-yacht?” rumors have been swirling locally since the massive luxury ship first arrived in the city’s North End neighborhood, at Boston Yacht Haven, earlier this month .

They go back even further, however. Since last summer, when the boat was spotted in Maine, reports have pegged Cuban as the boat’s owner.

But Cuban told the Boston Business Journal in a message sent through the billionaire entrepreneur’s own app, Cyber Dust, that it’s not his .

“I don’t have a yacht,” he reportedly said to technology reporter Sara Castellanos, before the message vanished.

And he shouted it (no, really, he wrote it in all capital letters) in a statement to the New York Post’s Page Six, after being pestered about the mystery of the boat’s ownership yet again.

“The guy who owns the boat tells everyone that it’s mine,” Cuban told the gossip page in early July, after the yacht, called “Fountainhead,” an apparent tip-of-the-hat to the Ayn Rand book of the same name, appeared in the Hamptons.

“It’s so crazy . . . I don’t even own a boat,” he added, making sure the weight of the statement hit harder than an anchor to the ocean floor.

It’s been reported that the yacht is actually the property of Sears chief executive Eddie Lampert. The conversation about who is at the helm of the yacht seemed to have sunk, for a time, into the depths of the ocean.

But with the latest allegations from Boston police, it looks like the rumors may have bobbed back to the surface.

That Yacht Docked in Boston Isn’t Mark Cuban’s, You Guys

Get a compelling long read and must-have lifestyle tips in your inbox every sunday morning — great with coffee.

The traveling sideshow that is the not-Mark-Cuban’s-yacht made its way to Boston this week.

The cruise-ship-sized vessel, named Fountainhead , has been turning heads since it docked in the North End’s Yacht Haven on Friday, according to the neighborhood news site NorthEndWaterfront.com .

But the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks and co-star of the investment game show Shark Tank wants to make it known he does not own that, or any, yacht. He is emphatic on this point.

“I DON’T OWN A YACHT,” Cuban reportedly wrote in an email to the celebrity gossip website Page Six , the all-caps his.

The owner of the yacht—which is 288 feet long, comes equipped with a basketball hoop, has enough deck space to store two additional boats, hails from the Cayman Islands , and most likely draws its name from the Ayn Rand novel (which Cuban, as luck would have it, has said is one of his favorites )—has been spreading misinformation, Cuban says.

The full email, as reported by Page Six:

I don’t own a yacht. Never have . . . The guy who owns the boat tells EVERYONE that it’s mine. It’s so crazy, I got a letter from someone thanking me because the ship’s doctor had saved this person with CPR . . . had people email me asking if they can come aboard. Of course I always say yes  I DON’T OWN A YACHT.

Unnamed sources told the gossip site the boat’s owner was actually an executive from Sears. Sears didn’t return a request from Boston for comment.

Many, many online resources earlier reported the boat belonged to Cuban. There was Mark Cuban’s yacht docked in Miami , in Bar Harbor , and The Hamptons , the sites reported. Forbes counted Cuban among the big boat owners in its ranking of 100 Biggest Yachts . Passing reference to Cuban and his vessel was made in a Thrillist list of the 8 Most Ridiculous Yachts in the World .

Then on Tuesday came a series of stories about how the nautical wonder absolutely didn’t belong to the wealthy basketball figure and TV personality.

One of them came from the Boston Business Journal , a reporter for which also reached out to Cuban by texting him directly on a messaging app he owns called Cyber Dust .

“I don’t,” Cuban tells BBJ reporter Sara Castellanos, “have a yacht.”

Mark Cuban’s yacht

Palm Tree Charter’s Capt. John shot this picture of  Fountainhead , anchored off Cruz Bay last week.

The $120+-million super yacht is named in honor of author/philosopher Ayn Rand . Her novel, The Fountainhead , “was incredibly motivating to me,” the multibillionaire has said. “It encouraged me to think as an individual, take risks to reach my goals, and responsibility for my successes and failures.”

The yacht took the Dutch builders three years to complete. It was launched in 2011. Onboard, there is a movie room. basketball court, and a swimming pool . A staff of 35 maintains Fountainhead and Cuban.

There have been no reported sightings of Cuban on island.

How about the 457 foot “Rising Sun” anchored in Round Bay on the 3rd of March…Once owend by Larry Ellison, now by David Geffen!

So Mark Cuban’s yacht has a history to tell. I would love to stay on that yacht in the future. 🙂

I can’t help but see the irony on quoting Ayn Rand with a very rich person…she is hardly someone I would use as an inspiration for my ethical decisions.

I completely disagree…

And to think – my husband & I just want enough money to get airfare to SJ & a boat ride to the BVI’s. Wish I could get a job on that yacht. He’s a fortunate man – love him on Shark Tank. Hope he will be happy & healthy for a long time.

ayn rand was awesome!

Ayn Rand was a fanatical anti-Communist and more than a little paranoid. Do a little reading about her before you heap praise on her head.

Wow the fact that there are people that think there is something wrong with being anti-communist is frightening…enough said….

  • Cuban's Gulfstream G550 holds a Guinness World Record for the largest single e-commerce transaction, costing $40 million and saving him time for his loved ones.
  • The Mavericks' Boeing 757-200, acquired for $36 million, is specially outfitted for the NBA team, providing space for players, weight rooms, and a specialized meeting setup.

After making millions of dollars from career earnings or investments, most individuals set their sights on acquiring some of the most luxurious and exclusive assets. Some opt for mansions with gold-plated coffee tables, while others fill their garages with luxury vehicles. However, for some billionaires like Mark Cuban, some of their money is better spent collecting luxurious private jets .

Mark Cuban's love for private jets

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mark Cuban is an American businessman and investor widely known as the owner of the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Dallas Mavericks. When not on the court, Cuban is also known for appearing as a judge on the ABC business reality television series Shark Tank, where entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to a panel of investors to persuade them to invest in their businesses.

Apart from molding NBA careers, investing in start-ups, and trying to reinvent the pharmaceutical drug sales industry, Cuban seems to love private jets. In fact, the wealthiest of the "Sharks" in the tank has two. This already puts him ahead of other wealthy business executives and celebrities who have only managed to keep one aircraft in their fleet.

Mark Cuban's two jets are also no mere Cirrus SF50s, clocking in at $1.96 million. With a net worth of over $6.2 billion, it is no secret that the Shark Tank investor would think bigger regarding private air travel. As such, the Mavericks boss has a Boeing 757 outfitted for a world-class sports team and a Gulfstream G550 business jet.

Setting a Guinness world record with the Gulfstream

While his first-ever private jet experience was on a Gulfstream II, Cuban owns a 22-year-old Gulfstream G550. He bought the jet in 1999, just after he made his first billion from selling his second company, Broadcast.com, to Yahoo. The $40 million purchase placed Cuban in the Guinness Book of World Records for the 'largest single e-commerce transaction.'

He still holds the record to this day, showing that clicking "buy" on the internet just isn't the same for everyone. In an interview with Business Jet Traveler , Cuban said he e-mailed Gulfstream after researching the company's website. They arranged to set up a demo flight for his pilot, who subsequently raved about it, sealing the deal without Cuban ever setting foot on his new investment.

Mark Cuban's smartest purchase

In another interview with Men's Journal Health & Fitness , Cuban said the jet was the smartest thing he had ever spent money on as it allowed him to spend more time with loved ones. "It is obviously brutally expensive, but time is the one asset we simply don't own. It saves me hours and hours," Cuban said. He added that the most important things in life are family, time, being nice, and avoiding stress.

The Gulfstream G550 is a popular choice among private jet users, offering a spacious cabin which can accommodate up to 19 passengers, in addition to a private bathroom and sleeping spaces. Speaking to Business Jet Traveler about some executives who have stopped flying private because of public criticism, Cuban highlighted the convenience of business jet travel. "They have to make their own decisions, but I just hope I compete with them. I get to work while they get to stand in line at the airport," he added.

The Mavericks Boeing 757

The second jet in Mark Cuban's collection is a Boeing 757-200, which he acquired for $36 million to transport his NBA team. Cuban purchased the Mavericks in 2000, shortly after buying the G550. While refusing to offer details on how the plane is outfitted, Cuban says he came up with the strategic vision for the plane, specifically focusing on providing space for players taller than seven feet.

It also has a weight room, special meeting set-ups, and space for medical treatments, as well as coaching and connectivity resources. While there is no footage of the aircraft's interior, it sounds reminiscent of the concept developed by NIKE and cabin designer Teague, specifically catering to professional athletes and sports teams. Cuban, who travels with his Mavericks to most games, believes that the decked-out unique cabin gives them a competitive advantage.

Built in June 1993, The Mavericks' 757 (registration N801DM) is now just over 30 years old. It was first delivered to Iberia, which operated it until November 2000. According to ch-aviation , it typically seats 63 passengers in an all-business configuration. By the early 2010s, the aircraft had clocked over 16,000 flight hours across 11,617 flight cycles. Now, it typically flies for approximately 600 hours per year.

When the NBA season is over, Cuban charters the jet to larger groups requiring high-end seating. In 2006, the jet was upgraded with Blended Winglet Technology from Aviation Partners Inc., increasing its range and eliminating long-haul refueling stops. The 757 can be spotted ferrying the Mavericks back and forth between Dallas and other cities with teams in the Western Conference.

Other teams with private jets

While privileged to have a customized Boeing narrowbody, the Mavericks are far from the only US sporting team to own a private aircraft for flying to and from games. Other well-known names include the New England Patriots, with a Boeing 767 (N36NE), which has served since 2017 and whose livery is iconic at airports hosting games. The Arizona Cardinals have one of the largest aircraft in sports, with a Boeing 777-200 to move their players across the country through the NFL season.

While the environmental footprint for teams using private jets is certainly high, they attempt to justify this by how much flying they must do each year. With dozens of players and staff traveling from city to city with tight turnarounds and the need for specialized equipment and medical rooms, private jets are best suited for these teams.

A private Boeing 767

Unsurprisingly, the most expensive jet in Cuban's collection was a Boeing 767-200. The widebody was operated by MLW Air, a company founded by Cuban and partners to offer high-end charter operations and occasionally serve the Mavericks, with registration N767MV. However, the aircraft now seems to have been scrapped. Its last flight was in February 2021, and it was sold to an aircraft parts company, indicating the end of the road for the nearly 40-year-old aircraft.

After gaining fame in their respective fields of expertise, many celebrities purchase their own jets to make their worldwide business and personal travel more accessible. Many of them acquire a single aircraft and fly it everywhere, but only a handful can say they have a collection. Respectfully, owning two or more aircraft also takes a different level of wealth.

Apart from Mark Cuban, a few other celebrities, including John Travolta, Tom Cruise, and Cristiano Ronaldo, are known to have a collection of private jets. John Travolta's portfolio is by far the most exciting , with a Bombardier Challenger, a Dassault Falcon 900, a couple of Gulfstream jets, an Eclipse 500, and a Boeing 727. He also owned a Boeing 707 , which he later donated to Australia's Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS).

Tom Cruise has at least two aircraft in his fleet , including a Gulfstream IV worth about $20 million and a classic P-51 Mustang. Meanwhile, legendary soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo owns a $65.5 million Gulfstream G650 and previously a $25 million G200. However, the latter was reportedly put up for sale last year .

If you were given enough money to purchase a private jet today, which one would you go for? Feel free to let us know in the comments how you would customize it!

Mark Cuban Reveals The One Reason Why He Avoids Yachts, Butlers And Chauffeurs

Zinger key points.

  • Cuban corrected assumptions about owning a 288-foot yacht and said he doesn't own a boat.

does mark cuban have a yacht

Mark Cuban  may be a billionaire investor and owner of the Dallas Mavericks, but he doesn't always act like one.

During an  episode  of "The Really Good Podcast" last week, Cuban shared that he deliberately avoids certain habits typically associated with the extremely wealthy.

"I just try to be the same person, I mean, as I was when I was poor, middle, and rich," Cuban told host Bobbi Althoff on the podcast.

Cuban, who is often known for his antics during NBA games and as a saavy investor on "Shark Tank," said that he doesn't hire staff to clean his home, cook his meals or drive for him. He said purchasing a yacht is "just not what I would do." He added that more staff often means less privacy for those like him who employ large teams.

"I like the privacy," Cuban said. "I've been around people who hire somebody to do everything for them, and that's just, like, no privacy."

During the interview, Cuban corrected assumptions about his ownership of a 288-foot yacht. "The guy who owns the boat tells everyone it's mine," Cuban said. "It's so crazy, I don't even own a boat."

During an interview earlier in July, Cuban shared about the one time  he missed one of the biggest investments of his life.

If You're Starting A Business And You Take Out A Loan, You're A Moron,' Says Mark Cuban. 'The Bank Doesn't Care About Your Business'

B illionaire entrepreneur and “Shark Tank” star Mark Cuban strongly believes in financing a startup. According to him, “Only morons start a business on a loan.”

Cuban believes that taking out a loan to start a business is a bad idea because it adds unnecessary risk, saying , “There are so many uncertainties involved with starting a business. Yet the one certainty that you will have is paying back your loan. The bank doesn’t care about your business.”

Don't Miss:

  • Will the surge continue or decline on real estate prices? People are finding out about risk-free real estate investing that lets you cash out whenever you want.
  • A billion-dollar investment strategy with minimums as low as $10 — you can become part of the next big real estate boom today.

He points out that loans are a cash drain with personal guarantees and collateral requirements. If the business doesn’t succeed, the entrepreneur’s financial stability is at risk.

“The best way to start a business is with as little money as possible ,” Cuban said during a South by Southwest (SXSW) panel. “Preferably money that you saved up or with no money. You're selling a skill you have, and you start slowly. That's what I've always done. Starting with nothing is where the big bucks are made for real.”

Cuban emphasizes that America thrives on entrepreneurship, especially during tough times. He explains that people often become more creative and resourceful when faced with challenges, which fuels the success of many businesses.

Trending: Commercial real estate has historically outperformed the stock market, and this platform allows individuals to invest in commercial real estate with as little as $5,000 offering a 12% target yield with a bonus 1% return boost today!

That’s why Cuban’s advice is clear: avoid loans and start small. After all, many of the most successful companies, like Airbnb, Uber, and Facebook, began with minimal capital and grew into multibillion-dollar businesses. He suggests using personal savings to kick-start your business, allowing you to maintain control and maximize potential profits.

“99% of small businesses you can start with next to no capital. It’s more about effort,” says Cuban. “Small businesses don’t fail for lack of capital. They fail for lack of brains. They fail for lack of effort. Most people just aren’t willing to put in the time to work smart.” He believes many entrepreneurs underestimate the hard work and dedication required to succeed.

He has another warning for new entrepreneurs : “If you start a business, you better know your industry and your company better than anyone in the whole wide world because you’re competing. To think that whoever it is you’re competing with is just gonna let you come in and take their business, obviously, that’s naive. I think most people don’t recognize that if you’re going to compete with me and one of my businesses, you better realize that I’m working 24 hours a day to kick your ass.”

Cuban's own success story supports his advice. He started his first company, MicroSolutions, with his own money and sold it for $6 million. Later, he and his friend Todd Wagner invested $10,000 in a small startup, which they transformed into Broadcast.com and sold to Yahoo! for $5.7 billion.

“If you find something that you like to do or love to do, be great at it and see if you can turn it into a business. Worst case, you’re gonna have fun doing what it is you love to do. In the best case, you can turn it into a business,” says Cuban.

Mark cuban’s 2 biggest business mistakes and how you can avoid them.

Mark Cuban, one of the “shark” investors on TV’s “Shark Tank,” is a multi-industry entrepreneur and bestselling business author. He has appeared on “Good Morning America” for its “ Swimming With the Sharks ” segment, where a viewer asked him about his biggest business mistakes. Here’s a look at his mistakes and what you can learn from them .

Wealthy people know the best money secrets. Learn how to copy them .

Mistake No. 1: Being Cutthroat

Believe it or not, this shark said that his biggest mistake as a young entrepreneur was thinking he “had to be mean.” At 25, when he started his first company, Cuban tried to make up for his young age with an antagonistic attitude.

Years later, Cuban learned that this was not the case.

“Nice sells,” he told viewers. “Nice makes you more money.”

The Rise of Kindness in Leadership

Cuban is one of many entrepreneurs who made this observation. In 2023, Martin Port, founder of BigChange, wrote about the emerging culture of kindness in entrepreneurship. He observed that decades ago, people saw business as a battlefield, and ruthlessness reigned.

Today, good leaders understand that negativity has a toxic effect on businesses and workplaces. Leading through fear is unsustainable, and people need positive feedback to thrive. That doesn’t mean avoiding criticism entirely, but it does mean approaching things more kindly.

Learn More: Mark Cuban’s Best Advice on How To Become Rich

How Meanness Hurts Companies

Research backs up Cuban’s appreciation for kindness. Being kind is better for business, plain and simple.

Research indicates that when people in the workplace are critical and mean, the team feels more stress and fatigue. Being among nasty people is draining and makes productivity more difficult.

Meanness also limits innovation and collaboration, both essential to entrepreneurial success. No one wants to share ideas with a leader or coworker who’s likely to shut it down, especially if that shutdown comes with a mean comment.

If the company leader is hostile, that toxicity dribbles down to everyone. It damages morale, causes widespread stress and kills motivation. An unmotivated, stressed-out team can’t perform at its best.

Cultivating Gentleness as an Entrepreneur

Cuban was right — embracing kindness as a business leader is strategic. However, as the online business learning center INSEAD recently noted, the advice can be frustratingly vague.

INSEAD writer Nadav Klein dove into the research and found a simple but effective interpretation: Practice basic human decency. Show compassion and empathy to employees, colleagues and customers, and they will see you as a caring person.

James Rhee, chair and former CEO of Ashley Stewart, agrees. He sees kindness in business as demonstrating genuine concern for people around you. It’s about showing understanding, giving people grace and believing in good intentions. With that approach, it’s no wonder Cuban saw better results.

Mistake No. 2: Prioritizing Sales Over Profit

Besides being too mean, Cuban’s other big mistake was obsessing over revenue versus profit.

Revenue is the total amount a business brings in from customers. If you sell a $500 couch, you’ve earned $500 in revenue.

Profit is how much of that you keep after expenses. If you spend $450 to rent a showroom, buy the couch, ship it there and hire a salesperson, you’ve only made $50.

The Limits of Revenue

High sales numbers are encouraging for any business owner. It’s exciting to bring in $1,000 one month, $5,000 the next and $10,000 the month after that.

Revenue growth is important. You can only have a healthy business by bringing money in. But if that revenue doesn’t cover your costs, your business won’t be as successful as you think.

Why Profit Matters More

Imagine you own a startup with skyrocketing income. You’re making more every month, so you take that money and invest it back into the business. You hire dozens of employees and start developing more products. Those products earn you more revenue, so you repeat the cycle.

Your numbers look great on social media, but what does your balance sheet look like? Your business is shaky if you earn a high amount but can’t meet expenses. That’s a risky place to be, especially in an economy that most people view as unstable.

As Cuban learned and many other business experts argue, the way to achieve stability is to focus on profit.

Becoming Profit Minded

Revenue is an exciting vanity metric, but businesses must also know their profit numbers. There are three numbers to consider:

Gross profit: Total revenue minus cost of goods sold

Operating profit: Gross profit minus operating costs, such as employee salaries and marketing expenses

Net profit: Total revenue minus all expenses, including taxes

Tracking all three numbers gives you the most accurate picture of your business’s health. If one looks great but another doesn’t — for example, if your gross profit is high but your operating profit is low — it’s a sign that you need to cut back somewhere.

Start tracking profits as soon as possible, and your business knowledge will skyrocket. And, remember to be kind!

Dallas Mavericks' Minority Owner Mark Cuban Long Shot to Become Kamala Harris' VP in Presidential Race

  • Dallas Mavericks

Mark Cuban sold a majority share of the Dallas Mavericks early in the 2023-24 season while also announcing he would be leaving the television show Shark Tank around the same time. Since then, people have speculated what his next move could be. While he still has a stake in the Mavs and wants to be around the team, some people thought politics might be his next move.

Despite outwardly denying he's interested in politics, BetOnline has Mark Cuban listed with +6600 odds to be the next running mate as Vice President after Joe Biden's announcement that he's dropping out of the upcoming election. Current Vice President Kamala Harris is likely to receive the Democratic Party nomination but will need a new running mate.

In these betting odds, Cuban is the first non-politician listed and is tied for the 10th highest odds alongside Hillary Clinton and J.B. Pritzker. BetOnline had fun putting this one together as this betting group also lists George Clooney (+10000), Oprah Winfrey (+25000), and former Alabama football coach Nick Saban (+25000). Cuban has gained a lot of public support with his new company Cost Plus Drugs, allowing people to buy their prescriptions at a cheaper price with minimal upcharge.

The Mavericks made a run to the NBA Finals following Cuban's sale of the team to the DuMont family from Las Vegas . It was initially reported that Cuban would have some front office control but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Maybe Cuban will be happy to operate in the background now

Harris' VP options: From Josh Shapiro to Mark Kelly, sizing up the slate's pros and cons

Here's a look at 9 of harris' vice presidential prospects – and the pros and cons for each one as democrats try to maintain hold of the white house..

Democratic leaders are rallying to crown Vice President Kamala Harris their party’s 2024 presidential nominee , raising the question of whom she could choose as her running mate.

The slate of rising stars said to be in consideration for the coveted role include swing state governors, a battle-tested Biden Cabinet appointee and military veterans. One thing they'd all have in common should they become the No. 2 to the nation's first female president : They could all court pivotal blocs of voters across the country.

Who has been mentioned as possible VP candidate?

Here’s a look at nine of the top vice presidential candidates Harris is likely considering, along with the pros and cons for each as Democrats seek to hold the White House.

Andy Beshear | Pete Buttigieg | Roy Cooper | Mark Kelly | J.B. Pritzker | Cedric Richmond | Josh Shapiro | Tim Walz | Gretchen Whitmer

Andy Beshear

  • The twice-elected governor of a deep-red state, Beshear has a proven ability to garner support from a wide coalition of voters, including Trump Republicans and moderates.
  • Beshear could counter Sen. JD Vance’s rhetoric about the Appalachian region, which includes portions of Kentucky, to win over Rust Belt swing voters.
  • Beshear, 46, has bipartisan leadership credentials, having worked with a Republican Legislature to lead his state through multiple disasters, including the COVID-19 pandemic, tornadoes and floods.
  • Kentucky is a Republican stronghold, and it’s unlikely Beshear would give Democrats an electoral advantage in the state.
  • Beshear has little foreign policy experience.
  • He is also relatively unvetted at the national level and is unlikely to have much name recognition among voters outside Kentucky.

Pete Buttigieg

  • Buttigieg is already a well-known Democratic figure who has experience campaigning across the country from his 2020 presidential bid and service as a Biden Cabinet member. He also served in the military and can speak to defense and international debate.
  • As the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Buttigieg can speak to the concerns of voters in Rust Belt swing states like Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
  • At age 42, he is the youngest contender being considered for the VP slot and is openly gay. He may be better equipped to energize core Democratic base constituencies, including LGBTQ+, millennial and Gen Z voters.
  • Buttigieg’s identity as an openly gay man could hurt Democrats' chances of wooing conservative-leaning independents, especially on a ticket with the first Black female vice president.
  • As transportation secretary, Buttigieg has faced an array of criticism, including his handling of the 2023 train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio – a disaster Vance has focused on in the Senate.
  • During his 2020 run for the Democratic presidential nomination, Buttigieg struggled to appeal to Black and Latino voters who are key parts of a Democratic path to victory in November.
  • Cooper has won six statewide elections in the key 2024 battleground state of North Carolina, including two governor's races, and could help Democrats carry the Southern swing territory.
  • Harris already has a working relationship with Cooper. They both served as their state’s respective attorney general, and Harris has described the North Carolina leader as a “dear friend.”
  • Cooper is in search of a new job. Unlike some of the other governors on the list, he is in the last year of his final term in office.
  • Cooper, 67, is one of the oldest contenders for the VP post.
  • Republicans have controlled the North Carolina Legislature since Cooper has been in power, which could make it difficult for him to claim full credit for successful policies.
  • Cooper has been criticized for dismissing charges against three Duke University lacrosse players who were accused of sexually assaulting a dancer.
  • North Carolina is in a tumultuous gubernatorial race, so Cooper may want to focus on his home state.
  • Kelly won statewide elections for the U.S. Senate seat in Arizona in 2020 in a special election to finish the term of the late Sen. John McCain and for a full term in 2022. He could give Democrats a boost in the crucial battleground state as VP nominee.
  • He has a background in military service as a naval aviator and as a former astronaut, giving him a platform to attack former President Donald Trump on claims that Trump has mocked veterans.
  • Kelly is the husband of former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords, who was shot in the head during a 2011 mass casualty event at a Tucson grocery store. Their story could prove powerful as gun violence takes center stage in the 2024 election.
  • Kelly is relatively unvetted on the national stage and is not well known beyond his state.
  • He has served in the U.S. Senate only since 2020 and is among the least-experienced politicians being considered for the VP nomination.
  • Swing state Arizona would hold a special election to fill his Senate seat if Kelly is picked and Democrats win the White House in November.

J.B. Pritzker

  • His progressive record as governor of Illinois, including proposals for a $15 an hour minimum wage and legalizing recreational marijuana, could appeal to the Democratic Party’s left flank.
  • Pritzker is heir to his family's Hyatt Hotel chain and has an estimated net worth of more than $3 billion.
  • One of the most outspoken Trump critics in the Democratic Party, Pritzker isn’t shy about taking on the former president and would be expected to perform well in a debate against Vance.
  • At 59, Pritzker is the same age as Harris and could struggle to reach out to younger generations of voters.
  • Pritzker faced controversy in 2018 for removing toilets from his luxury home in Chicago to lower his property taxes.
  • Illinois is not considered a battleground state, so picking Pritzker would not help Harris carry a swing state.

Cedric Richmond

  • Richmond is a Democratic loyalist who worked in the Biden White House and chaired his campaign.
  • He has strong ties to Capitol Hill from his tenure as a congressman, which sets him apart from the governors on the list. Every vice president since 1977 has served in Congress first.
  • He knows Harris well from his time leading the Congressional Black Caucus and as co-chair of the Biden transition team.
  • Richmond does not have a large following beyond Washington, D.C.
  • He does not hail from a swing state and would not bring a new constituency of voters to the Democratic ticket.
  • Richmond has served in public office since 2000 and has no military or private industry experience. His current role at the DNC could spur rhetoric from the Trump campaign that he is part of the Washington swamp.

Josh Shapiro

  • Shapiro has the highest gubernatorial rating of any Pennsylvania governor in decades, and he could prove to be important in delivering an electoral victory for Democrats in the must-win swing state.
  • The 51-year-old has gained national name recognition for his quick response to the 2023 I-95 overpass collapse and, more recently, his leadership after the attempted assassination of Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
  • His experience as the governor of a Rust Belt state and calls for unity after the Trump rally shooting may help Democrats counter Republican messaging that the party is divisive.
  • Shapiro has led Pennsylvania for two years and is politically inexperienced on the national stage.
  • Democrats risk the chance that a Republican could take control of the Pennsylvania governor’s mansion if he is picked and goes on to win the White House.
  • Shapiro isn’t likely to excite the party’s progressive base, especially given his moderate stance on the Israel-Hamas war. Shapiro has not called for a cease-fire but has expressed support for a two-state solution.
  • Walz has served two terms as Minnesota’s governor and six terms in the U.S. Congress, giving him more nuanced leadership experience than many of the VP contenders.
  • He has spoken openly about his family’s personal experience with IVF treatments and would be a strong champion for reproductive freedom on the campaign trail.
  • Walz is a former teacher and pro-union Democrat who can speak to the concerns of blue-collar workers in Midwestern states.
  • Walz is not well known outside Minnesota, and Democrats could struggle to introduce him to the American people with just three months until the general election.
  • He received backlash for his handling of the riots across Minnesota after the murder of George Floyd and his defense of the protesters who participated.
  • Walz has remained a steadfast supporter of Israel during its war with Hamas, which might not play well with younger, more progressive voters the Harris campaign is trying to reach.

Gretchen Whitmer

  • Whitmer won reelection in Michigan by double digits in 2022 and has broad support in the crucial Midwestern swing state.
  • During her two terms as governor, Whitmer has focused on working across the aisle on issues at top of mind for Americans, including job growth, economic investment and infrastructure.
  • Whitmer is a woman and an outspoken advocate for abortion rights. She could be a strong messenger against Republican rhetoric on reproductive rights, a key issue in the 2024 campaign.
  • A woman has never won the presidency, and a two-woman presidential ticket would be unprecedented. Democrats may fear that it would push some undecided voters away.
  • Whitmer was accused of hypocrisy during the COVID-19 pandemic for traveling out of state and going to a bar while her administration encouraged people not to travel or eat out. She has since admitted she made a mistake.
  • Whitmer does not have foreign policy experience or background working with the deeply divided U.S. Congress.
