Lürssen comments: “ Two world-leading design studios, each adding unique ingredients to the successful recipe, together with a number of Owner-commissioned artisans, have allowed us the opportunity to create a truly unique vessel that opens the eyes to new possibilities in designing spaces for living. Combined with the Lürssen engineering and expertise, the end result is a superyacht that will provide decades of seaworthy enjoyment with an authentic feel.”
Among the many fine features aboard the striking 66m superyacht ESTER II belongs a huge swimming pool aft, a proper helicopter landing pad, situated above the wheelhouse, as well as two separate, external dining locations, large panoramic windows and a near vertical bow.

Reymond Langton Design stated that the emphasis was for practical living spaces concentrated on creating an intimate family home: “ The owner requested a French Classical theme for the interior, with a strong emphasis on the correct understanding of the inspiration and quality of details and references used to ensure an authentic contemporary interpretation of the style. ” To achieve this, Reymond Langton Design teamed up with experienced artisans to develop and create the desired elaborately detailed yet warm and welcoming atmosphere of the interior.

Pascale Reymond describes Ester III yacht’s character: “ At the heart of the yacht is the main stairwell, a grand statement that features a breathtaking hand-carved leather artwork by master craftsmen of specialist furniture manufacturers Silverlining. Wood veneers, leather and metal, with a little bit of polished plaster, are combined in the marquetry using shades and textures. It sweeps from the Lower deck guest accommodation to the Bridge deck lobby, where full-height windows allow natural light to filter through a skylight to the Main deck below. This spectacular feature defines the character of the boat; finely crafted elegance, rich in detail and texture without compromise. ”

Accommodation aboard luxury yacht ESTER III is divided into the main deck full-beam Owner’s suite, fitted with a private study and a lobby flanked by his and hers dressing rooms. As stated by Reymond, the suite is “the ultimate expression of the luxuriant style that defines the yacht.” The lower deck hosts five guest cabins, all benefitting from its own en-suite bathroom and plenty of natural light, thanks to large windows.

The main deck saloon is composed of three distinct zones; the lounge area furthest aft extends through large sliding doors – which disappear completely into the superstructure – onto the exterior deck, resulting in an open, relaxed ambience. Moving forward is a more intimate central seating group positioned next to an ornate ethanol-fuelled fireplace, then the dining area, enveloped in Amboyna framed fabric artwork that again continues into the ceiling ensuring a light, romantic atmosphere. A large television is hidden behind leather panels in the bulkhead when not in use, so as to keep the classical feel.

The bridge deck sky lounge is a bright, open area, connecting to the exterior with “oversize windows” and large sliding doors onto the aft deck. There are comfortable sofas facing the large TV, which is hidden behind marquetry panels depicting fish when not in use. The fully-integrated wheelhouse, with captain’s cabin immediately aft, offers twin raised seats each side of the captain so guests can enjoy being in the nerve centre while underway.

The lower deck hosts the spa, with its Assyrian influence, setting a different tone to the main accommodation. A massage room doubles as a hair salon and the sauna and steam room adjoin one another. A dayhead and changing room complement the spa. Ornate mosaic inlays and a dramatic full-sized wall relief carved in stone in the gym mix up to form a relaxed, calm yet energizing ambience, with direct access to the sea.

The exterior of ESTER III yacht can be characterized by an angular profile with grey and white used to breath-taking effect in elements of the cleverly sculpted superstructure. Espen Oeino, who is a friend with the Owner, describes the look of the vessel: “ a unique, distinct and strong character in many ways reflecting the Owner’s character and in many ways also the strong heritage of Lürssen Yachts. ”

“ The layout reflects the family’s frequent use of the yacht and in particular the intense use of external deck spaces where meals, entertainment and meetings go hand in hand on a near continuous basis,” Oeino says , adding that the decks are laid out to be used in all weather conditions with various degrees of protection from the sun, wind, rain, heat and cold, providing dining in two separate external locations to complement the more formal main deck dining setting. On the bridge deck, glass panels can be closed at the sides and the stairwell to the top deck closed with a sliding panel, resulting in a protected winter garden.

“Food and hospitality is a big thing for the family so the top deck dining is organized around a BBQ and teppanyaki fitted external kitchen – with a stylish mirror dome – which doubles as a bar. Entertainment on deck includes external cinema and a full blown discotheque-cum-bandstand as well as amenities for golfing… ” Oeino continues . Galley and pantry are at main deck level boasting fantastic views to port.

In addition to guest accommodation, the lower deck of ESTER III superyacht also hosts a generous crew mess and crew cabins. There is also an ample space dedicated to laundry and storage, aft of which are the technical spaces immediately forward of the double-deck engine room. A wonderful selection of water toys is stored aft of the engine room, to port of the spa. The vessel also hosts a custom-designed open tender, designed by Espen Øino International and constructed by Windy Boats .

Lürssen has kept noise and vibrations extremely low, exceeding the expectations of the Owner. To avoid releasing chain for short stays “at anchor”, while protecting the seabed, an electronic anchoring system integrates the bow thruster and the aft pump jet as well as the main propulsion into one system.

The Luxury of Lürssen’s Ester III
For five generations, the Lürssen family has consistently delivered on a promise of excellence, enhanced by performance, in the business of building ships. The recent creation of an exquisite luxury yacht, the Ester III, continues the Lürssen legacy in a long line of beautiful, functional, innovative yachts.
Launched in 2014 from the Lürssen shipyard in Germany, Ester III earned praise from the moment the exquisite build first touched water. A unique, masculine, low-volume profile by Espen Øino International Design, complemented by the exceptional interiors of Reymond Langton Design, contribute to Ester III’s panache as a private, practical superyacht.
The 66 m/216.5 ft yacht establishes a new standard for style and luxury, providing a family-oriented, sea-roving home welcoming 12 guests in 6 cabins. Powered by a pair of MTU 12V 4000 M63 diesels housed in the double deck engine room , Ester III’s steel and aluminum hull easily maintains a cruising speed of 16.5 kts. on voyages of 4,000 nautical miles.
The profile is that of a strong, stylish adventurer, leading with a near-vertical bow followed by large, full-height windows. An elegant palette of white and grey covers the hull, visually carving the decks into dramatic statements of agile power. Classical French interiors guided by Pascale Reymond’s experienced hand and embellished by the team of owner-commissioned artisans make the ultimate statements on luxury and comfort.
Two stunning features give Ester III notoriety unseen in other yachts of comparable size. First is the main stairwell and glass lift, sweeping from the lower deck cabins to the bridge deck. The exquisite hand crafted marquetry of Silverlining detail the area with stunning precision in wood veneer, leather, and metal. A skylight, teamed with full height bridge deck windows, grace this central connection with luxurious natural light. The second remarkable features is the large infinity pool aft of the saloon and al fresco dining deck, spilling a glorious waterfall onto the swim platform and into teak drains. Both the central stair and the infinity pool falls link the decks together with functional form, embracing extraordinary design elements.
The main deck saloon is divinely divided into three zones. Furthest aft, a comfortable lounge features a sumptuous seating group. Opening onto an exterior deck aft, the saloon is fitted with sliding glass doors that slip into the superstructure, creating a luxurious, seamless space. Forward of the lounge, a more formal seating group provides a beautiful respite with an intricately adorned fireplace powered by ethanol.

German shipyard Lürssen’s 217-foot custom yacht Ester III can accommodate up to 12 guests in five spacious staterooms and a gorgeous owner’s suite. A large infinity swimming pool on the boat’s top deck comes equipped with a jet flow, a waterfall leading to the bathing platform, and comfortable cushions on either side for sunbathing.
Outfitted with textiles, paintings, drapes, artwork, and even a fireplace, the interior decor delivers all of the charm of a French classical home. The main stairwell at the center of the ship was specially made by skilled craftsmen and extends from the lower-deck guest cabins to the bridge deck lobby, where floor-to-ceiling windows and a skylight provide ample natural lighting. Inspired by Assyrian decor, the lower-deck spa includes a massage room (which doubles as a hair salon), a sauna, a steam room, a day head, and a changing room. ( lurssen.com )

The sea trial was pubblished on Superyacht 47 – Autumn 2015
A 66 metre of masculine and aggressive design, which conceals elegant and refined interiors, furnished with gracious, nautical taste.
At the marina of Cap d’Ail in Monte Carlo the 66 metre Lürssen “Ester III” is moored alongside. It’s a hot and humid day, but in the shade of the aft pool deck we feel very fine indeed. This is a private yacht but the owner, exceptionally, has allowed a small group of journalists aboard to see and describe it. What led to the development of “Ester III” as we now see her were the needs of a family with two small children and two young daughters who love the open air life, sport and sea. The first meetings between owner and designer were in 2009 and the first project was for a 45 metre.
Then the owner bought a 52 metre and effectively realised what his requirements were, so the design grew to its current 66 metres and the yacht was launched in 2014. There are many things that make “Ester III” a special yacht: first and foremost the personal friendship between the owner and Espen Øino, the great Norwegian naval architect.
Espen was asked to design a boat as if it were for himself: so, Espen says, this friendship was a great opportunity to create something unique, but at the great risk of ruining everything if it didn’t come off well. It was only when the boat was finished, on a very cold and rainy day, and the owner and his wife sitting in the saloon exclaimed, “Ahhh, it’s nice here, feels like being at home” that Espen knew everything had turned out all right.
The external lines, which may be defined as “masculine”, are sharp and soft at the same time, streamlined and massive, soaring but solid: in a word, they transmit sportiness, innovation and extreme design. The practically vertical axe bow, the apparently limited height and the play of contrasting colours between the white of the hull, the grey of the decks and the many vertical window panels are, at first sight, the distinguishing features of this superyacht. Aft, the three decks house distinct zones: the pool and a small lounge on the lower, a spacious living area and large dining table on the middle deck and, on the upper, the solarium and barbecue area.
The dining room can be closed at the sides by sliding glass doors and has a heating system in order to extend the seasons. Two lateral brackets descend from the ceiling to accommodate large TV sets. Forward there is a helipad on the upper deck, above the bridge. The deck forward is designed with protective rails that can be shifted and mounted towards the centre, leaving the sides open in order to strike a golf ball; a game the owner really loves. So the yacht is conceived for intensive use throughout the year, with plenty of sports activity – there are numerous toys aboard – and outdoor guest entertainment activities in the various living and dining areas, some more formal than others.
Lastly, relaxation in the spa below deck. The clean lines are not “cluttered” by the presence of tenders, jet-skis and life-rafts. The rafts are stowed in lockers open at the top but closed at the sides by hatches openable to the exterior by remote control and invisible from the sea. The tenders are stowed forward below deck, in a huge full-beam garage with double side hatches.
This position, says Øino, has the advantage of shifting the cabins farther aft for greater comfort, and of being higher on the water to avoid problems with waves during launch and recovery operations. Ceiling-mounted hydraulic davits guarantee swift and safe handling of the two tenders. One is a RIB, the other a custom Venetian vessel which recalls the lines of the yacht itself, built in composite by Swedish yard Windy Boats, with upholstery in leather, openable glass roof, external wheelhouse forward and facilitated access. The jet-skis are stowed in a garage with lateral hatch, situated more amidships. This was a fundamental point in the design, in accordance with the owner’s wishes since he aims, when not under way, to spend most of the time lying to an anchor in a roadstead.
Let’s go back for a moment to the pool aft. Its apparently linear design conceals certain singularities: there’s a bench surrounding the long sides just below water level so you can sit comfortably. The central table, evidently a place to lay your glass, actually conceals the outlet of a current of water for static swimming. With an electronic keypad at the side you can select different user modes: static, hydro-massage, current and cascade.
Towards the stern a glass door closes the pool which can also function as an infinity. Attention to detail and a maniacal perfectionism are also perceptible in the exteriors: for example the features in teak with maple strips of the coffee tables, the well-shaped furnishings, all in composite materials, the cushion covers with concealed openings, the cushion covers themselves in specially created fabrics, the paintwork of the structures: it all contributes to the perception of absolutely top quality. After a flute of champagne we go on a tour of the interiors which could be defined as classic French style, strongly featuring furniture in rare wood with inlays, embellished by elements in crafted silver.
The design of the interiors and furniture, the study of the fabrics and the creation of the artworks on board are the work of the London studio Reymond Langton Design, in the person of young Pascale Reymond. Pascale explains that in her view the heart of the ship is the staircase linking the decks, embellished by an impressive artwork in chiselled leather.
The 5 guest cabins on the lower deck are each furnished with their own characteristic theme and palette of colours, making them unique. The owner’s full-beam cabin has a height of 2.4 metres with great panoramic window like ports at the sides. The suite is completed by an office, his and her walk-in wardrobes and a double bathroom with shower area against one side. Here too we find excellent works in Avodire wood, in bronze, gold, silver, leather and onyx, a rich and refined effect overall.
The main saloon is subdivided: one area aft which connects with the great open air zone by way of a retractable sliding door; a central area for relaxation with large sofas and armchairs, and the dining area forward. Whereas the spa on the lower deck is in a style defined as “Assyrian”, with oriental references and polychrome mosaics. It offers massages, sauna, Turkish bath, hairdresser’s salon, changing rooms and gym. A passageway links this zone to the stern platform where you can enjoy open air swimming.
Going back to the creation of this ingenious work, every smallest piece of the yacht has been designed and handmade by expert craftspeople, many of them called in directly by the owner: woodcarvers built the furniture and the wall and ceiling mouldings, sculptors created the friezes and marquetry in silver and gold, cabinetmakers inlaid the wood of the furniture, walls, doors and floors, and upholsterers wove and sewed all the fabrics aboard. Without forgetting the leatherworkers who created furnishing elements, panels in leather, or the marble-carvers who masterfully worked the various marbles, onyxes and mosaics with semi-precious stones for the bathrooms.
The construction of “Ester III” called for an enormous effort of invention (with the owners’ collaboration) and logistic management of the workforce. Just think that more than 500, among craftspeople and professionals who, one after the other, took turns to proceed with the build. Craftspeople and artists did their work in their own workshops and studios, also using specially created mock-ups that were subsequently assembled on board. The end result is undoubtedly charged with evocations and a wealth of details, with a high level of liveability and a classic elegance that will never fade.

The sun deck offers U-shaped seating aft in front of a retractable outdoor cinema while in the centre is more seating, a fully equipped bar, barbecue grill, fridge, ice maker and a drop-down television screen.
Further features include a helideck, an elevator that provides quick access from the guest accommodation to the sun deck, and a spa centre with a gym. Twin 2,039hp MTU diesel engines give her a range of 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots and she is fitted with Quantum zero speed stabilisers.
Lying in Gibraltar, Ester III was asking €79.5 million.

Lürssen’s ‘Ester III’ sells in less than four months
David legrand of fraser yachts and peter brown of burgess have sold the 2014 build, which had an asking price of €79.5 million.….
Despite a sluggish year for the larger superyachts on the market, Lürssen’s 66m M/Y Ester III looked set to be a momentary re-sale listing from the second her central agency listing was assigned to David Legrand of Fraser Yachts in August this year.
Now, after less than four months on the market, she has been sold, with Burgess’ Peter Brown bringing the buyer. Her final asking price – and original listing price – was €79.5 million, making her the most valuable re-sale of the year based on disclosed final asking prices.
“It was the work of Espen Øino that was the key to the sale,” begins Legrand. “The buyer fell in love with the lines. He didn’t want an 80m or a 90m – he wanted a ‘human-sized’ vessel and this is a vessel of exceptional quality and the only Lürssen of its size on the market.”
Ester III , delivered in 2014, is the only sub-85m Lürssen to be delivered in the past five years and while the German yard maintains its 60–220m build scope, Lürssens of this size are increasingly scarce.
Commenting on the larger brokerage yachts on the market, Legrand says “They are overpriced, it’s as simple as that. The economic and political climate has generated buyers that are much keener to build new than second-hand. There is not enough quality on the market at the moment – and the offers being made on those that are good quality, are at a much lower level than the asking prices.”
It just goes to show how quickly these vessels can sell with a serious seller and a realistic price-point – the experienced seller is the former owner of a 36m motoryacht and later the 51m Codecasa, Ester II .
Ester III is the third and largest Lürssen to sell this year after 58.6m Capri’s pre-Monaco Yacht Show price reduction came to fruition in November and 40.9m Blind Date was sold in September.

Ester III's interior, designed by Reymond Langton Design, includes a hand-carved leather artwork running through the main stairwell and benefits from a glass lift running from the lower to the top deck. Reymond Langton Design stated that the emphasis was for practical living spaces focused on creating an intimate family home: “The owner requested a French Classical theme for the interior, with a strong emphasis on the correct understanding of the inspiration and quality of details and references used to ensure an authentic contemporary interpretation of the style”. To achieve this, Reymond Langton Design collaborated with highly skilled artisans to develop and create the desired elaborately detailed yet warm and welcoming atmosphere of the interior.
A big swimming pool aft, a proper helicopter landing pad, positioned above the wheelhouse, and two separate, external dining locations, combined with large windows and a near vertical bow all contribute to this unique look, designed by Espen Øino International under guidance from the owner.
Espen Øino was given an open brief by the client: “just do it as if the yacht was for you, Espen…” The result, with large and full height windows, is an angular profile with grey and white used to striking effect in elements of the cleverly sculpted superstructure. Øino, who is friends with the Owner, describes the look: “a unique, distinct and strong character in many ways reflecting the Owner’s character and in many ways also the strong heritage of Lürssen Yachts”.
Pascale Reymond describes Ester III’s character: “At the heart of the yacht is the main stairwell, a grand statement that features a breathtaking hand-carved leather artwork by master craftsmen of specialist furniture manufacturers Silverlining. Wood veneers, leather and metal, with a little bit of polished plaster, are combined in the marquetry using shades and textures. It sweeps from the Lower deck guest accommodation to the Bridge deck lobby, where full-height windows allow natural light to filter through a skylight to the Main deck below.
The tender garage is located forward on the main deck “to have no freeboard issues during launching and retrieving which is frequently a problem when located on the lower deck on yachts of this size”, with the added benefit that the Owner’s accommodation is closer to amidships for comfort. A custom-designed open tender, designed by Espen Øino International and built by Windy Boats, offers full protection for guests from the elements when needed – the yacht spends large amounts of time at anchor – by way of its sliding roof, the interior sporting Hermès upholstery and fixtures.
Unusual features include the relatively large (for a yacht of this size) infinity swimming pool – with jet flow and a waterfall leading down to the bathing platform where the water runs into a teak grating – and a helicopter platform on top of the wheelhouse, “so as to enable the owner’s family to arrive and leave the yacht by helicopter without interfering too much with life on the aft decks”.
This is the Michael Phelps room, for swimming with Esther.
An infinity pool at sea is truly infinite.
“The layout reflects the family’s frequent use of the yacht and in particular the intense use of external deck spaces where meals, entertainment and meetings go hand in hand on a near continuous basis”, Øino states, adding that the decks are laid out to be used in all weather conditions with various degrees of protection from the sun, wind, rain, heat and cold, offering dining in two separate external locations to complement the more formal Main deck dining setting. On Bridge Deck, glass panels can be closed at the sides and the stairwell to the Top deck closed with a sliding panel, creating a protected winter garden.
Lürssen has kept noise and vibrations extremely low, beating the expectations of the Owner. To avoid releasing chain for short stays “at anchor”, while protecting the seabed, an electronic anchoring system integrates the bow thruster and the aft pump jet as well as the main propulsion into one system. Comfort, engineering efficiency and seaworthiness go without saying at Lürssen – Ester III has it all.
The bridge as seen from the starboard side...
The Bridge deck Sky Lounge is a bright, open area that continues the theme of the Main Deck, connecting to the exterior with “oversize windows” and large sliding doors onto the aft deck. Here, comfortable sofas face the large TV, which is hidden behind marquetry panels depicting fish when not in use. The fully-integrated wheelhouse, with captain's cabin immediately aft, provides twin raised seats each side of the captain so guests can enjoy being in the nerve centre while underway.
“Food and hospitality is a big thing for the family so the Top deck dining is organized around a BBQ and teppanyaki fitted external kitchen – with a stylish mirror dome – which doubles as a bar. Entertainment on deck includes external cinema and a full blown discotheque-cum-bandstand as well as amenities for golfing…” Øino continues. Galley and pantry are at main deck level enjoying fine views to port.
Skylounge gaming...
The Main deck salon is created from three distinct zones; the lounge area furthest aft extends through large sliding doors – which disappear completely into the superstructure – onto the exterior deck, creating an open, relaxed ambience.
Moving forward is a more intimate central seating group nestled next to an ornate ethanol-fuelled fireplace, vis-à-vis a large television is hidden behind leather panels in the bulkhead when not in use, so as not to spoil the classical feel. The dining area is enveloped in Amboyna framed fabric artwork that again continues into the ceiling creating a light, romantic atmosphere.
A fireplace at sea...
This spectacular feature defines the character of the boat; finely crafted elegance, rich in detail and texture without compromise. Esther's elevator is the epitome of the ups & downs with yacht ownership.
Pascale Reymond explains how “a décroché wall hides doors to bathrooms and TV screens as well as some storage” adding that “the feel is like a Parisian apartment, but nothing heavy, the wood having a certain patina so as to not look too new. French Classical with a twist!”
