New Club in the Scottish District – Welcome Wick Model Yacht Club

  • Scottish District

We are pleased to announce a new MYA Member Club in the Scottish District. Wick Model Yacht Club (WMYC) currently has twelve MYA members including four junior members.

It is noteworthy that WMYC is now the MYA’s most northerly club! Their sailing venue is Sarclet Loch near Wick which is a natural loch about 3/4 mile long. The Club Representative for the MYA is Graham Robertson and his contact details can be found on the Clubs page .

Wick Model Yacht Club has been running in its current form since 1926. They free sail two classes of yachts (4ft and 5ft) of which the rules are specific to the club. Most of the yachts sailed have a fixed skeg, i.e. no steering control, no vane or Braine gear. The yachts are adjusted by the sails only. They have an excellent website which is worth visiting.

Welcome aboard!

The photos above are taken at the Wick Model Yacht Club which has been running in its current form since 1926 and they race two classes of yachts, club member Kevin Patterson tells me, a 4’ class based loosely on the Marblehead class but with rules far less stringent, and a 5’ class with rules specific to the club.

The yachts which are mainly wood (cedar or yellow pine) or fiberglass but fiberglass is not allowed.  They are typically around 17lb in weght and there is no restriction on sail area but draught is limited to 20”. Most of the yachts sailed have a fixed skeg, have no steering control, no vane or braine gear but the former is not discouraged. Adjustment to the boats is by sail only.

Racing is held on Sarclet Loch, a natural loch near to Wick with racing held in the spring on Saturdays, but where exactly is Wick some of you may well be asking ?

Wick is an estuary town in the north of the Highland Council area of Scotland and in case you are wondering how I know that, I got it from a trusted friend, Wi(c)kipedia - (no relation!)

At the last Schoonersail event held by the Ancient Mariners at Onepoto lake in Auckland, New Zealand in December 2008 a good time was had by all.  In the dinghy-towing event won by Murray White sailing his schooner Black Joke,  a close tussle ensued between Murray’s other black schooner, Black Pearl sailed by Brian Bassett  and Richard Gross’s schooner Poppy G .The two boats had rubbed hulls in a jostle at the top mark as this close-up rounding photograph by Leon Duddy recalled and not a single `blah blah’ was heard from either sailor – that’s good sportsmanship of both gentleman sailors for you!  A feature of Ancient Mariner’s windling attitude

A clear Summers day, no other boats on the pond and just one solo-sailing sailor still managed to find a way to bow-hit the stone wall. That takes rare seamanship and supreme skill. True he was multi-tasking, sailing, popping a couple of Tic Tacs into his mouth and photographing the scene all at the same time. In addition the pond water was slopping uphill as you can see!!!  I know that you are dying to know the name of this multi-talented model yacht sailor, so… (well on second thought we won’t go into that. He is an extremely modest sort of chap and shuns publicity, acclaim and adulation, so let’s with great haste move on shall we?)

Beautiful blue skies over Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf, long humid days, racing that could be viewed from the land, more friendliness and fun, lots of colour and altogether a grand long overdue regatta with America’s Cup boats in the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series. It should have happened long ago instead of all the prolonged bickering , court arguments and stand-off one-upanship palava between AC holders, Switzerland and  America’s BMW Oracle which has greatly tarnished the great event overall (and which) as far as I am aware, is still not  settled.

Praise must go to both Louis Vuitton and to Emirates Team New Zealand (and a host of other sponsors) for their foresight and efforts in making the event possible. I believe that it brought a measure of keen but relaxed racing and maybe, just maybe others will learn from it and realize that one can be keenly competitive without constant snide verbal `chomping’ of each other with jaws-like molars, and without bad sportsmanship, anti this team and anti-that team abuse from players and spectators alike  and patriotism taken to ridiculous extremes

A `friendly and `fun’ regatta by and large it was,  spoilt only by AC holder, Alinghi’s  decision to forfeit their match against Emirates Team New Zealand saying that the race was meaningless as no competition points were offered and leaving a large spectator fleet assembled on the water most disappointed. Pity about that, then again some things will never change despite all the charm offensives in the world. Not only that, AC class racing will always be `cut throat(ish)’.

Well who won the regatta then?  (Does it really matter ?)  Oh I suppose so  though for me the big winner was the event having brought big boat yacht racing `a la America’s Cup’ back to this city in clear airs and given it a better image in the eyes of the populace many of whom were sick of all that went on between two billionaire factions. Suffice then just to say that Emirates Team New Zealand won the best of five races Final over Alinghi by a three to one margin.

A really beautiful display scale model of a small open clinker-built Winkle Brig gaff-rigged sloop, plus a detailed and interesting story by Tony James on these boats appeared in the February issue of Marine Modelling International. I am sure that it would have set a few UK modellers thinking what a fine RC sailing model such a boat would make for it lends itself to the inclusion of oodles of detail. The boats were used for the dredging of oysters, cockles  and winkles in shallow creeks on the River Thames. I don’t know whether any plans exist but I believe that a good ferret around on the internet could well (with time and patience) result in some success perhaps from one of the many owners of restored boats listed and shown on one or two websites.RM  Even without WB plans, most of you would be able to fairly easily scratch- build a good little model for 2 channel RC operation,(say to two or three foot LOA plus bowsprit) that would prove I am almost sure to be an easy-to-carry, good sailing little gaff-rigged Winkle Brig look-alike model. A model as attractive as WB 48, Roger Parish’s Partan in the third photograph above. Depends how keen you are and how much interest the MMI article has been to those who manage to get a copy and read it.

Graham McAllister of Sheboygan, Michigan (I wrote about him a few months back) has produced a new Footy, the `Pond Sprite’ shown in the first photograph below, a narrower in beam than his Kittiwake K2 models boat with  less severe curvature of the hull as well as less rocker.

In the second photograph above is one of the new 50” Tippecanoe RM boats from that company in Everson, WA, one of the latest additions to the ever-growing range of boats, and very nice too! Of more interest to the competitive minded, moreso than the windler, but hell, you can windle with anything, even a bottle or plank boat – it is the attitude that sets the scene.

My friend Bill in Ma, USA took these photos (above and below)) most way back in the black & white film days of John Hartshorne of Cohasset, Ma who served as an officer aboard the Gen W.A Mann high speed troop transport near the end of World War II.  The  photographs are of his superb sailing model of Admiral Donald McMillan’s 136’ polar exploration schooner Bowdoin that he (John) sailed regularly in a tidal river at the foot of his property just fifty yards from the Hartshorne property..  The real schooner, designed by William H Hand Jnr in 1921 and built in East Boothbay, Maine was launched in 1913.

Today she plys the coast of Maine and is owned by the Maine Maritime Academy. She is a National Historic Landmark.  A photo of the original Bowdoin is below right.

I came across this tee shirt by Snorgtees on the internet, then a few months later saw a guy wearing the same  design shirt in Takapuna on Auckland’s North Shore in New Zealand. Tee shirts it seems travel far and wide without air tickets and visas!  Clever design this one but it could of course mean several things to people with even vaguely `naughty(cal)’ minds!  (Well, were I so blessed I’d be hesitant indeed to even `suggest’ it.)  The second photograph shows a lovely sailing model of the Olin Stephens designed Dorade built by Doug Kuhn  of Surrey Park Boat Club in Melbourne, Australia. The model is built to 1/20 scale and is 850mm in length. At 52 feet LOA the yawl Dorade was considered tiny for an ocean racer but after her rig was modified she won the Transatlantic race by two days over the second finisher as well as Britain’s Fastnet race.

The third and larger photograph depicts a five-schooner tussle in Maryland U.S.A at a US Vintage Model Yacht Group/Great Schooner Model Society regatta in the waters off the Calvert Marine Museum. Exciting huh?

The mullet boat in its full size guise still lives on in Auckland, New Zealand, and the fleet still race for their own holy grail in the form of the Lipton Trophy in the waters of the Hauraki gulf  each year with fierce competition usually prevailing. It is an impressive trophy too and it has often been said that mullety men would kill to have their boat name engraved on the precious piece of yachting hardware retained in the Ponsonby Cruising Club.

A mere `few’ years ago there came a surge of interest when Dave Moore produced a sailing model of one of the well known boats, then another (and from memory) yet another and sailed them on the waters of Onepoto lagoon, after which someone produced another and made a mould of its hull and a few more boats started appearing. This is all in the past now for I haven’t seen a mullety on the water for absolute ages actually (I tell a lie I saw a solitary one only yesterday!)

The first mullety model built by Dave Moore (whom I believe is now engrossed in lawn bowling) is of a particularly unique mullet boat that was literally dug up from a mudflat then painstakingly totally rebuilt, so the model is most likely the only one of its kind in existence. With hope I therefore ask, where are mullety models ?  Get them back on the waters of Onepoto with the Ancient Mariners fleet please for they are an important New Zealand part of model yachting.

Wick Model Yacht Club

Season 2020 - reports.

All contenders

The final gathering of the Wick Model Yacht Club prior to the Covid lockdown saw the introduction of a new model yacht, Kindling. A build that took five months with a planked hull and handmade fittings, its of a newer design of half the width and half the weight of the other vessels. With only a quick pre-race test our day began. Overcast with a strong gusty wind everyone adopted their smallest sails. The BlueHaze streaked ahead with the Skua in hot pursuit, RestlessWave behind sailing too high, Apollo struggling in the lulls and Kindling moving slowly requiring lots of adjustment on its maiden voyage. On the return leg BlueHaze with a spinnaker fitted on the starboard side followed the short shore where it continued to maintain its lead ahead of the Skua. The RestlessWave somewhat tighter headed initially towards the Chicken rock before crossing over to the short shore. Kindling the last vessel to leave the returning goal was deceivingly quick passing both Apollo and RestlessWave but landed in the Hole, being a difficult location to recover from the RestlessWave regained its former position.

Result: 1. BlueHaze Michael Paterson 30:21, 2. Skua David Sutherland 32:36, 3. RestlessWave Graham & Adam Robertson 35:23, 4. Kindling Kevin Paterson 36:08, 5. Apollo Donald McWilliam 36:48

Modifications were made during the interval RestlessWave and Apollo both increasing sail size to their middle suits to overcome the lulls. And Kindling shifted its mast forward in an effort to improve windward performance.

The second race began again with the BlueHaze leading the way but this time with everyones adjustments the fleet were closer together. As the boats tacked back and forth towards the returning goal Kindling was again at the rear of the flotilla. On the return the BlueHaze chased by the Skua tracked the short shore with the RestlessWave and Apollo having their own tussle. Kindling moving quickly initially headed towards the Hole with a quick port side spinnaker swap it continued towards the Point where it obtained the lead just seconds ahead of the BlueHaze.

Result: 1. Kindling Kevin Paterson 29:50, 2. BlueHaze Michael Paterson 31:19, 3. Skua David sutherland 31:56, 4. Apollo Donald McWilliam 35:07, 5. RestlessWave Graham & Adam Robertson 36:00

All contenders

Saturday was a bright day with a strong wind, each model yacht opting for their smallest set of sails. From the startline we headed into the oncoming wind with a long tack towards the shed before turning and progressing to the Chicken rock. The Aurora was leading sailing well with the RestlessWave and Apollo in pursuit. However the Apollo sailing well on one tack was not so good on the other began to fall behind. The BlueHaze and Pioneer someway behind sailing too high, going into irons, which slowed them down. The Skua unfortunately was removed from the race. On the return leg with a small balloon spinnaker attached to the starboard side, the Aurora sailing very consistently extending its lead ahead of the RestlessWave.

Result: 1. Aurora Archie & Fiona Miller 29:22, 2. RestlessWave Graham & Adam Robertson 32:31, 3. BlueHaze Kevin & Michael Paterson 33:02, 4. Apollo Donald McWilliam 35:32, 5. Pioneer Peter & Rory Sinclair 40:08

During the interval the wind began to surge, dropping then gusting. A choice was now possible, Do we stay with small sails? or Increase size and use the middle set?. The dilemma was discussed was debated with the conclusion that the wind was going to return to its former strength. So everyone continued with their small sails. The BlueHaze did make an adjustment to its mast position by bringing it forward to prevent going into irons by sailing too high into the wind.

Race two began with the lighter breeze which favoured the modified BlueHaze and it sped ahead of the other vessels who now were slightly undersailed. As the race continued the fleet spread themselves out across the loch each sailing at their own pace. On the return with spinnaker fitted the BlueHaze continued its fast pace crossing the finish line with quite a substantial gap almost two-thirds the length of the loch ahead of the next competitor.

Result: 1. BlueHaze Kevin & Michael Paterson 29:48, 2. Aurora Archie & Fiona Miller 36:18, 3. Apollo Donald McWilliam 40:43, 4. Pioneer Peter & Rory Sinclair 46:46

All contenders

Saturday the 7th of March is the least windy day we have endured so far, each model yacht fitted with top suits.

From the startline there was a long tack towards the Chicken rock before crossing to the short side then another long tack towards the goal. The Aurora led the fleet to the returning goal with a quick attachment of a balloon spinnaker to the port side it was released as the RestlessWave and Apollo crossed the line. On the return the RestlessWave began to close the gap to the leading Aurora for a very exciting finish just nipping ahead at the finishline.

Result: 1. RestlessWave Graham & Adam Robertson 29:07, 2. Aurora Archie & Fiona Miller 29:10, 3. Skua David Sutherland & Innes Scollay 34:11, 4. Apollo Donald McWilliam 35:09, 5. BlueHaze Michael, Alexa & Reuben Paterson 42:08

The second race began again with the Aurora leading the way closely followed by the Apollo with the BlueHaze and RestlessWave in pursuit. With a quick turnaround the Aurora continued its lead. The BlueHaze and RestlessWave leaving the half way point together bringing up the rear, but the RestlessWave with a full spinnaker found speed and pulled away from the BlueHaze passing the Apollo to again compete with the Aurora. With increased wind speed they both veered away from the Hole, there original heading, where the RestlessWave lost out as it clipped the shoreline allowing the Aurora to sail across the finishline.

Result: 1. Aurora Archie & Fiona miller 30:51, 2. RestlessWave Graham & Adam Robertson 30:55, 3. BlueHaze Michael, Alexa & Reuben Paterson 31:39, 4. Apollo Donald McWilliam 34:26

All contenders

After a week of heavy rain Sarclet lochs water level was very high and compared to the previous week the wind was favourable for a pleasant stroll around the loch. Mid-sized sails fitted from the onset, we began with a long tack towards the long side. A couple more tacks were required to reach the goal at the far end. On the return leg the vessels were fitted with spinnakers on their port side.

The Apollo began stretching a small lead from the startline ahead of the RestlessWave and BlueHaze but over the lochs length the wind began to pick up and the RestlessWave overtook the Apollo. On the return with spinnakers the RestlessWave continued to extend its lead initially heading towards the Hole but with a gust of wind it returned to the short shore where Adam manouvered it around the Point to the finish.

Result: 1. RestlessWave Graham & Adam Robertson 29:23, 2. BlueHaze Kevin Paterson 32:54, 3. Apollo Donald McWilliam & Peter Sinclair 33:18

The second event was almost a repeat of the earlier race but all the vessels this time were much closer however the RestlessWave dominated steadily maintaining the gap from the others.

Result: 1. RestlessWave Graham & Adam Robertson 28:39, 2. BlueHaze Kevin & Michael Paterson 29:28, 3. Apollo Donald McWilliam & Peter Sinclair 30:59, 4. Skua David Sutherland & Innes Scollay 33:51

All contenders

The Wick Model Yacht Club has begun its 2020 season on a very blustery day, the type of day that can cause breakages. The afternoon was bright, the water of the loch was brown as it was stirred by the fairly large waves and the spray from the breaking wave tops were being whipped up blowing across to the far side of the loch.

The off beam wind was blowing from a south westerly direction, so from the startline we were sailing into the wind and if everything went correctly it would only require one tack to reach the opposing goal. On the return small balloon spinnakers were fitted again hogging the short shore a single tack could be possible.

Starting the first race the Apollo quickly took the lead forging its way through the waves. Followed by the RestlessWave and the slower BlueHaze sailing slightly higher. As we all passed the Chicken rock the Apollo and RestlessWave required several adjustments to get off the long side as the wind kept pushing them back. The BlueHaze passed them both with a tweak just outside the returning goal to cross the line where it was turned with spinnaker fitted for the return leg. The Apollo & RestlessWave followed suit. A couple of adjustments and we crossed the finish line.

Result: 1. BlueHaze Kevin Paterson 25:19, 2. RestlessWave Graham & Adam Robertson 26:10, 3. Apollo Donald McWilliam 31:40

For the second race heading into the wind the Apollo changed tactics attempting to follow the short shore by tightening its sails, however the downside of this was it needed numerous adjustments losing time. The BlueHaze sailing down the middle of the loch was moving quickly and pulled away from the following RestlessWave. As the first race it required a minor adjustment outside the returning goal. The Apollo and RestlessWave also repeated their previous race manoeuvres. The return leg was fast as the BlueHaze continued to stretch its lead until it collided with the short shore where it sat until its sailor caught up. The RestlessWave also following the short shore passed the floundering BlueHaze. Once recovered, slackened and released it again set off at pace. Heading out towards the middle of the loch it began closing the gap to the leading RestlessWave. As they both approached the finishline the RestlessWave had to negotiate the Point losing valuable time allowing the BlueHaze to pass.

Result: 1. BlueHaze Kevin & Michael Paterson 18:49, 2. RestlessWave Graham & Adam Robertson 19:47, 3. Apollo Donald McWilliam 25:29

VIVA: The $250 Million Superyacht Of UFC Owner Frank Fertitta III

VIVA: The $250 Million Superyacht Of UFC Owner Frank Fertitta III

Garry Lu

From his current position as CEO of Station Casinos to how he – alongside brother Lorenzo and childhood friend Dana White – transformed the UFC into a multi-billion-dollar promotion , there’s virtually endless information about how Frank Fertitta III made his fortune. How he chooses to spend said fortune, however, is a little more mysterious (at least for the fun stuff). One such indulgence we know the elder Fertitta brother has treated himself to is the ultra-luxurious Feadship-built superyacht known as Viva, which comes with an eye-watering price tag of US$175 million / AU$252 million.

Conceptualised by Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture in collaboration with De Voogt Naval Architects, while also showcasing interiors accomplished by Peter Marino, Viva was only completed in the Netherlands last year and delivered shortly thereafter.

Back to the matter of Viva, it boasts an overall length of 308 feet / 94 metres with a 13.6-metre beam and gross tonnage of 2,999 – making it the 85th largest superyacht in the entire world; seventh largest ever constructed by Feadship – and can comfortably accommodate 14 guests across seven cabins alongside a capable crew of 18.

Viva has been called the “most environmentally-friendly luxury vessel of its kind” due to it featuring a hybrid propulsion system that allows the boat to cruise using diesel-electric power, as well as a waste treatment plant and heat recovering systems.

The annual running cost of this enviable billionaire’s toy? Over US$17.5 million / AU$25 million.

Viva was last sighted en route to Martha’s Vineyard by way of Nantucket — but you can check it out for yourself via the Superyacht Times’ video below.

$175 million superyacht viva moored off nantucket.

Jason Graziadei • Jul 06, 2022

If you’ve arrived or departed from the island by boat over the past few days, you couldn’t have missed the gargantuan visitor lurking just offshore.

The 308-foot superyacht Viva was moored off Nantucket earlier this week, just outside the jetties, as the massive vessel was too large to navigate into the harbor. It departed for Martha's Vineyard Wednesday night.

The $175 million Viva, which was built by Feadship in the Netherlands and completed just last year, features its own helicopter which has been spotted circling around the island this week. It is the 85th largest superyacht in the world, and is believed to be owned by billionaire Frank Fertitta III , the CEO of Station Casinos in Las Vegas and founder of Zuffa LLC, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

The yacht’s helicopter sports the tail number N702FF, which was believed to have been chosen for Fertitta’s initials.

"That's definitely one of the biggest vessels I've seen around Nantucket in my 20 years here," Harbormaster Sheila Lucey said on Wednesday.

The yacht has been called the “most environmental-friendly luxury vessel of its kind” as it features a hybrid propulsion system that allows the boat to travel at 12 knots under diesel-electric power, as well as a waste treatment plant and heat recovering systems on board. Its annual running costs are reported to be in excess of $17.5 million .

Viva has a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure. Among its many amenities are a cinema, a beauty salon, a gym, and, of course, a helipad on the upper deck.

Following its construction in the Dutch shipyard, the massive yacht had to squeeze through narrow canals to make it out to sea, as documented in these photos shared by CNN last year.

Why were so many metro stations in Moscow renamed?

Okhotny Ryad station in Soviet times and today.

Okhotny Ryad station in Soviet times and today.

The Moscow metro system has 275 stations, and 28 of them have been renamed at some point or other—and several times in some cases. Most of these are the oldest stations, which opened in 1935.

The politics of place names

The first station to change its name was Ulitsa Kominterna (Comintern Street). The Comintern was an international communist organization that ceased to exist in 1943, and after the war Moscow authorities decided to call the street named after it something else. In 1946, the station was renamed Kalininskaya. Then for several days in 1990, the station was called Vozdvizhenka, before eventually settling on Aleksandrovsky Sad, which is what it is called today.

The banner on the entraince reads:

The banner on the entraince reads: "Kalininskaya station." Now it's Alexandrovsky Sad.

Until 1957, Kropotkinskaya station was called Dvorets Sovetov ( Palace of Soviets ). There were plans to build a monumental Stalinist high-rise on the site of the nearby Cathedral of Christ the Saviour , which had been demolished. However, the project never got off the ground, and after Stalin's death the station was named after Kropotkinskaya Street, which passes above it.

Of course, politics was the main reason for changing station names. Initially, the Moscow Metro itself was named after Lazar Kaganovich, Joseph Stalin’s right-hand man. Kaganovich supervised the construction of the first metro line and was in charge of drawing up a master plan for reconstructing Moscow as the "capital of the proletariat."

In 1955, under Nikita Khrushchev's rule and during the denunciation of Stalin's personality cult, the Moscow Metro was named in honor of Vladimir Lenin.

New Metro stations that have been opened since the collapse of the Soviet Union simply say "Moscow Metro," although the metro's affiliation with Vladimir Lenin has never officially been dropped.

Zyablikovo station. On the entrance, there are no more signs that the metro is named after Lenin.

Stations that bore the names of Stalin's associates were also renamed under Khrushchev. Additionally, some stations were named after a neighborhood or street and if these underwent name changes, the stations themselves had to be renamed as well.

Until 1961 the Moscow Metro had a Stalinskaya station that was adorned by a five-meter statue of the supreme leader. It is now called Semyonovskaya station.

Left: Stalinskaya station. Right: Now it's Semyonovskaya.

Left: Stalinskaya station. Right: Now it's Semyonovskaya.

The biggest wholesale renaming of stations took place in 1990, when Moscow’s government decided to get rid of Soviet names. Overnight, 11 metro stations named after revolutionaries were given new names. Shcherbakovskaya became Alekseyevskaya, Gorkovskaya became Tverskaya, Ploshchad Nogina became Kitay-Gorod and Kirovskaya turned into Chistye Prudy. This seriously confused passengers, to put it mildly, and some older Muscovites still call Lubyanka station Dzerzhinskaya for old times' sake.

At the same time, certain stations have held onto their Soviet names. Marksistskaya and Kropotkinskaya, for instance, although there were plans to rename them too at one point.

"I still sometimes mix up Teatralnaya and Tverskaya stations,” one Moscow resident recalls .

“Both have been renamed and both start with a ‘T.’ Vykhino still grates on the ear and, when in 1991 on the last day of my final year at school, we went to Kitay-Gorod to go on the river cruise boats, my classmates couldn’t believe that a station with that name existed."

The city government submitted a station name change for public discussion for the first time in 2015. The station in question was Voykovskaya, whose name derives from the revolutionary figure Pyotr Voykov. In the end, city residents voted against the name change, evidently not out of any affection for Voykov personally, but mainly because that was the name they were used to.

What stations changed their name most frequently?

Some stations have changed names three times. Apart from the above-mentioned Aleksandrovsky Sad (Ulitsa Kominterna->Kalininskaya->Vozdvizhenka->Aleksandrovsky Sad), a similar fate befell Partizanskaya station in the east of Moscow. Opened in 1944, it initially bore the ridiculously long name Izmaylovsky PKiO im. Stalina (Izmaylovsky Park of Culture and Rest Named After Stalin). In 1947, the station was renamed and simplified for convenience to Izmaylovskaya. Then in 1963 it was renamed yet again—this time to Izmaylovsky Park, having "donated" its previous name to the next station on the line. And in 2005 it was rechristened Partizanskaya to mark the 60th anniversary of victory in World War II.

Partizanskaya metro station, nowadays.

Another interesting story involves Alekseyevskaya metro station. This name was originally proposed for the station, which opened in 1958, since a village with this name had been located here. It was then decided to call the station Shcherbakovskaya in honor of Aleksandr Shcherbakov, a politician who had been an associate of Stalin. Nikita Khrushchev had strained relations with Shcherbakov, however, and when he got word of it literally a few days before the station opening the builders had to hastily change all the signs. It ended up with the concise and politically correct name of Mir (Peace).

The name Shcherbakovskaya was restored in 1966 after Khrushchev's fall from power. It then became Alekseyevskaya in 1990.

But the station that holds the record for the most name changes is Okhotny Ryad, which opened in 1935 on the site of a cluster of market shops. When the metro system was renamed in honor of Lenin in 1955, this station was renamed after Kaganovich by way of compensation. The name lasted just two years though because in 1957 Kaganovich fell out of favor with Khrushchev, and the previous name was returned. But in 1961 it was rechristened yet again, this time in honor of Prospekt Marksa, which had just been built nearby.

In 1990, two historical street names—Teatralny Proyezd and Mokhovaya Street—were revived to replace Prospekt Marksa, and the station once again became Okhotny Ryad.

"OSPREY"

Hunt Yachts Harrier 26-2016-OSPREY Wilmington-North Carolina-United StatesOSPREY 3234641

DETAILS ABOUT THIS BOAT

OSPREY is a fine example of a very hard-to-come-by 2016 Hunt Harrier 26 powered with the optional Yamaha 300hp outboard motor with only 215 hours. Lift-kept with custom sun covers, she shows beautifully with her Stars & Stripes blue hull, Oyster White boot stripe and black bottom. In 2018 the Yamaha outboard motor was painted to match the gelcoat and a faux teak transom was applied, nice custom touches done by the Hinckley Company. Properly maintained and serviced (full outboard motor service, with computer check and compression test, March 2022) make OSPREY a true ‘turn key’ offering. This is a great opportunity to acquire a nearly-new Hunt Harrier 26 in time for Spring!
