Sanremo Yacht Club

Yacht clubs were historically very exclusive places, as members had to be yacht owners. Yacht clubs have opened their doors more widely now, so more of us can enjoy them.

Yacht club membership may still be restricted to boat owners, but these now include owners of small boats like dinghies. Yacht clubs often now offer open sailing lessons.

Yacht clubs also have had to diversify to remain viable. Yacht clubs often have lovely restaurant and bar facilities, where you can enjoy a meal in a beautiful nautical environment.

Yacht Club Sanremo offers activities with the sea and the wind both at sea and ashore. Enjoy regattas, youth sports activities and seamanship. The sailing school at Yacht Club Sanremo provides theoretical and practical lessons for pupils of the Primary Schools of the town, to enhance their experience and love of the sea.

Yacht Club Sanremo Sailing School proposes the ?Lupi di Mare? or Sea Dogs project whereby primary school pupils wwill be given the opportunity to learn to sail via theoretical and practical lessons culminating in a final regatta. The aim of the sailing school is to let children embrace the sport and their love of the sea.

YCS Sailing College at the Yacht Club Sanremo allows pupils between the ages 8- to 14-year-old boys and girls to spend a week at the seaside, learning the basics of the sailing art. After an intensive introduction and specialization course the children take to the water in used sailboats, of club property. The YCS Sailing College teaches children not only to love the sea, but also to be responsible in their experience.

2021 420 Frecciarossa World Championship: tomorrow the start from Marina degli Aregai

An important synergy between the Liguria Region, the Municipality of Santo Stefano al Mare, The Italian Sailing Federation, Sanremo Yacht Club and Marina degli Aregai has enabled the 2021 420 Frecciarossa World Championship to be held from tomorrow until July 10th.

In these difficult years, organizing a world championship is not easy, but thanks to the commitment of the staff, the long-awaited sailing competition will take place. The participants come from 20 countries : Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Croatia, Spain, France, England, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Switzerland, Turkey, United States and, of course, Italy; they will be present at the Marina degli Aregai with over 200 boats , although some crews have already arrived. The American, the Argentinian and the Hong Kong teams have started training to “get familiar” with the Italian sea.

This is an interesting challenge for the Sanremo Yacht Club, which has already had the honour of organizing the 420 Class World Championship in 2016 . Thanks to the support of Frecciarossa, Marina degli Aregai and its hotel structure, the race will take place at its best. The constant interaction and the support of the Liguria Region and the Regional Sports Department, together with the hospitality of the Municipality of Santo Stefano al Mare, have contributed to the realisation of this great youth festival that will officially start tomorrow, Friday 2 July, at 7 pm in the town square with the opening ceremony.

” The municipality of Santo Stefano al Mare is proud to host a world competition that will bring crews and the public to discover our country, in a prestigious context where sport has the ability to bring together the flags of 5 continents in a single event. In parallel with the race, the administration has organized a series of events to celebrate an appointment that we are sure will be an important driver of tourism and that is to all intents and purposes one of the most important sailing competitions in the world” – says the mayor of Santo Stefano al Mare, Marcello Pallini.

” It’s an honour for us to host the 420 Class World Championship at Marina degli Aregai for the second time. In this edition, 209 crews from all over the world will compete on one of the most renowned race courses in the world. As a company, we consider these sporting events to be of great educational importance for all participants. I would like to thank President of Sanremo Yacht Club Beppe Zaoli for having once again chosen our Marina as the setting for a high-level sailing event and I wish all the athletes taking part in the 420 Frecciarossa World Championships and the Municipality of Santo Stefano al Mare a fair wind”, concludes Dr Beatrice Cozzi Parodi.

“Good wind to all” from the “Compagniadella Vela” which promoted the noble art of sailing since the Twenties of last century. In 1956 it officially became the Yacht Club Sanremo thanks to the initiative of a group of fishing and sailing enthusiasts who wanted to promote this discipline among young people and the sailing events of the Italian Riviera of Flowers. The Yacht Club Sanremo offers sailing courses for young fans and it organizes prestigious national and international regattas for all kinds of boat. The tradition of sailing regattas in Sanremo dates back to the early 1900s. Between 1902 and 1912 the city of flowers hosted the Cups of Italy and in 1903 that of France.  The sailing regattas that departed from Sanremo were once greeted at the start by a cannon. When the  Compagnia della Vela was established in 1920 it involved all the fans of this sport, regardless of their profession or social background.

The headquarters of the Yacht Club, complete with docks for the mooring of members, locker rooms, classrooms for theory lessons and recreational areas, is located on the North Pier of Porto Vecchio, the true heart of the city of flowers. Today visitors enter the Club by climbing the steps of the royal staircase of the 1927 Augustus motor-ship, an unmissable place and one of the cornerstones of the city, which has been organizing many world, European and Italian championships for years.

The Yacht Club Sanremo has promoted sailing for 70 years, and in particular teaching the sport to young people. The head office is in the Old Port of Sanremo, close to the beaches and in the heart of the city, equipped with every comfort, including a restaurant reserved for members, sailing classrooms, a gym, changing rooms and a nautical base. The sailing school is managed with the help of national instructors who are mainly involved in teaching the sport of sailing and improving the technique of people who already practice it.

Dragons show at the Sanremo Yacht Club

One of the most important classes in world sailing is back in Sanremo: the Dragons, who will compete this week in the finals of the European Grand Prix in the waters in front of the Matuziana bay. Very high level of the participants who come from 13 nations to compete for the overall victory of the Grand Prix series. The Russian Loginov, the German Diederichs, in crew with Diego Negri, fresh World Champion in the Star class, the English Andy Beadsworth who races for Turkey, are some of the candidates for the podium. There are also two Sanremo crews: that of Sandro Solerio, a new entry in the Class, with various titles behind him, and that of the president of the Yacht Club Sanremo Beppe Zaoli. It will be a wonderful sight to admire the forty boats competing for the title of Dragon European Grand Prix Champion. Five exciting days of racing, which will start on Wednesday 27 October until Sunday 31 October, at the end of which the final award ceremony will take place at the Yacht Club Sanremo. At the end of this event, many boats will stop in Sanremo in view of the winter circuit of the Winter Series, scheduled for the whole winter, until next year’s European Championship, in April. A particular thanks goes of course to the Municipality of Sanremo for the precious support, to the Liguria Region, to the main Sponsor Paul & Shark, the historic clothing brand linked to this class, and to the historic friends of the Club without whom all this would not be possible, that is Abate Gioielli, the Royal Hotel, Portosole and the Cozzi Parodi Group. Sanremo and its Yacht Club are increasingly proving to be the Capital of Sailing in the Mediterranean.
