Description.
The Reflex 38 was conceived as a one-design offshore race boat and commissioned by Sir Robin Knox-Johnson for the race training and corporate hospitality arm of Clipper Ventures. However... this is the only Reflex 38 to have been privately owned and sailed since new, never part of the original Knox-Johnson charter fleet. Built for the 1999 Southampton Boat Show, she was fitted out for short-handed cruising as well as remaining a competitive racing boat. This boat has an enviable racing record winning Warsash Spring series and Class 2 in Cowes in its first year alone. She has many years of successful regatta and club racing and finishing 10th overall in the AZAB in 2019. There are some notable differences, a watertight bulkhead forward, some powered winches and a galley and saloon which is more suited to spending time aboard rather than just getting your head down between watches - but the stylish lines, ease of handling and performance are pure Reflex and she's a joy to step aboard. Wow !! This boat is now on offer at a reduced price including VAT, so even more affordable than ever and ready to go. Not only is this an outstanding craft, in absolutely amazing condition, but she is only one of ten of these ever made. Reflex 38's just dont appear often at all due to the amount made, and this one has all the accesories you could wish for, whether your looking to Charter it or to long distance sail or race, you have to view this to fully appreciate it, and at this price, it wont stay around for long. The current owner does have charter bookings in for the year and these can be forwarded to the new owner. These boat details are subject to contract. I've raced against them and chatted with people who have raced on them. Quick on most points of sail but struggle to live up to their handicap in a decent chop. I am told that accomodation is apparently not very good with not enough berths for the number of crew required to race the thing and those are not in the right areas for weight distribution for the off watch crew either.
Reflex 38 I meant is built by Harley Race Boats and designer: Christian Stimson I was after the following: 1) Sailing quality in various wind conditions and directions? 2) Handicap on IRC ok or not? 3) Build quality, durability? 4) Comparisons with Prima 38? Anything else?

I own a Pronavia 38 - the cruising version of the Reflex 38, speak to www.sailinglogic.co.uk - RORC Yacht of the year this year and RORC school boat of the year for the last 5 years I believe. I cruise in my Pronavia 38 and its also raced, very fast cruising and it brings home the results on the race course - no complaints.

sailed the prototype pronovia about 3yrs ago - didn't perform well against the reflex - heavier v poor quality fit out inside (looked v nice though), hatches leaked, tack on No 1 pulled out etc etc. we were disappointed - hope the production boats got better. again - repeating advice above - go and talk to the folks at sailing logic
