They have this operation dialed in. It is short but very sweet. The open bar and fun, yet competent, staff makes for good times on the water. The views are great, they have good music going, and it is fun meeting other folks on board. Definitely check it out!

What a wonderful experience! The crew was friendly and fun. The drinks were tasty and plentiful. The sunset was gorgeous and the moonrise was a terrific bonus. I highly recommend!

This was a great experience. This sail is very calm and relaxing and a completely different experience from the trade wind sails, where you expect to get tossed around and get wet. The crew was very friendly and attentive. The sunset was gorgeous, even though it was overcast all day. My wife and I now prefer this sail over the trade winds sails we have done in the past. Great sail!

My friend was visiting me on the island and we both loved this experience! The crew is so refreshing and fun! It was a mix of young and old! It was a great time! Would definitely recommend!

This is the best deal in Waikiki. Was there for a week and went on this cruise three times. ~$30 for one hour sail with open bar. So, you can sit in a hotel bar and nurse one drink or be on the ocean enjoying amazing views, listen to lively music and chug down multiple drinks. No brainer. Shout out to Dustin for the amazing sailing experience.

This was a total blast! The guys running the boat were friendly and entertaining. The sites were phenomenal. The sea life is gorgeous. And the drinks were very good. I booked a second trip, can’t wait to sale again!

ENJOY YOUR TRIP.

Rave Reviews

Traveling at the age of 20 with your friends is a guaranteed fun time but when you do amazingly fun excursions like the Makani Catamaran, it just makes your vacations a thousand times better! My friends and I had such a great time thanks to your amazing staff. They’re very nice and very helpful. I’ve been on the catamaran three times and every time it just seems to get better and better. I highly recommend Makani Catamaran, MAHALO!!! oh and we saw turtles and DOLPHINS on our sail, IT WAS AMAZING!!!

This was by far the best catamaran we have been on! The staff is AMAZING. The crew is so helpful and funny. They make you feel like your part of their crew for sure. We loved spending time on the water and hearing all they had to say about the islands and animals. The captain was great! We will be doing this again!

We saw a sea turtle and a group of dolphins followed us for a while and did some "tricks". No whales on this trip but the crew made the experience fun by telling jokes and talking about the animals.

I can't say enough nice things about our trip on the Makani Catamaran! The staff were warm and friendly, the drinks we're tasty and the views were breathtaking. We had the opportunity to stand in the Captain's Galley and take photos. Captain Jon was so accommodating and thoughtful - he even offered to take our picture. This is one experience you do not want to miss out on! Highly recommend.

The boat was in great shape, staff was very professional and committed to safety. I appreciated that more than anything. I would highly recommend this trip for anyone visiting the Island, the views are well worth it. Great value trip!

So, full disclosure I was pretty skeptical that this would be fun at all. In fact, this was totally my wifes idea. That said, of all the things we did in Hawaii, this ended up being one of my favorites. We had been doing pushing ourselves pretty hard for several days up to this point and it was just really nice to sit back for a couple hours with drinks in hand and hang out as a family. We sat on the netting in the front and our 9,7, and 5 year old kids thought it was awesome to watch the water go by underneath and at one point even had some dolphins following us. 100% would suggest and will definitely do again.

I am so happy that I booked this during our trip to Hawaii. The crew was nice, hospitable, and very engaging. They made the sail super fun for everyone on board. Our captain was even able to show us sea turtles and a whale, even though we were not promised that when booking! Plus there was a full service bar and the drinks were awesome! I would definitely recommend to everyone. It is definitely worth it.

Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

CATAMARAN SNORKELING OAHU

Quick details.

  • Hour Glass Duration: 3 – 4 hours
  • Calendar Season: June – September

MORNING & AFTERNOON OAHU SNORKEL SAIL

Our Oahu snorkeling tours take you sailing along the laid back coast of the North Shore to the best snorkel spots in the clear tropical water near the famous Waimea Bay.

Our snorkeling groups are small and personal (16 passengers maximum on a boat that is licensed for 19). You get to enjoy a peaceful snorkel away from the crowds in beautiful clear tropical water with the guidance of professionals.

SNORKELING OAHU’S UNDERWATER PARADISE

Snorkeling Oahu’s North Shore is an adventure into an underwater paradise. The living reefs of Hawaii are host to hundreds of species of fish and other marine life. During our sail along the North Shore, we can observe sea turtles near the shore. We often encounter spinner dolphins as they come and escort our catamaran, surf the bow wave, and put on a great show as they cavort in the wake of our boat.

There is plenty of time for snorkeling and swimming once we arrive at our location. The snorkeling spots are home to sea turtles, and it is easy to come eye to eye with them while in the water. After exploring the underwater scenery, come back aboard the Ho’o Nanea for a delicious deli lunch and a cold drink.

We have all the snorkel equipment you need on board. If you have your own, you are welcome to bring it. Towels are not included on this trip. Please make sure to bring your own towels.

Know Before You Go Snorkel Safety

Swimming and snorkeling in the Pacific Ocean should not be taken lightly. To keep you safe, please know your health limits, swim with a buddy, never turn your back on the ocean, and read and obey posted signs. Check HIOceanSafety.com for ocean conditions at lifeguard beaches.

Two decades ago Captains Todd Pickering and Mick Riegel took their ocean skills, love of the ocean world, and discovery of new and dramatic underwater vistas along the Ko Olina and Leeward Oahu coastline, and created new snorkeling tours and adventures for visitors and friends.

They were some of the first to pioneer safe and non-intrusive dolphin encounters and whale watching with these wonderful ocean creatures, with thousands of amazed, happy and repeat customers attesting to their success. They added another great snorkeling adventure, the Catamaran Sail & Snorkel Tour. They and their current Captains Matt, Todd, Travis, and Taylor, their crew, and staff continue Ko Olina Ocean Adventure’s tradition in providing Hawaii’s visitors with an adventurous, fun, memorable and safe ocean experience.

Son of the late inventor of the modern catamaran follows in his father’s legacy

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Woody Brown Jr. is the keeper of a family legacy. The treasure in his chest is a twin-hulled sailing craft commonly called a catamaran.

“You see catamarans all around the world, but a lot of people don’t know it was created right here in Hawaii,” he said. “I want to make sure we keep that going for as long as we can.”

He says that because the modern-day catamaran was created by his father, Woody Brown Sr., a legend to many who know about his history and his love of the sea.

“He was a glider pilot, a surfer, and a sailor,” Woody Jr. said.

His catamaran, the Manu Kai, started the family business that’s been a fixture on the Waikiki Beach shoreline for decades.

Woody Sr. had his son very late in life. Woody Jr. didn’t fully grasp what his dad had done until he was older.

“Hearing all the stories from all the old-timers and realizing how much of an impact he gave to all these people, that’s when I started realizing, ‘Dang! I’m really lucky and blessed to be a part of this family and legacy,’” he said.

That’s why he has been living in Washington State for the past two years. He built a new catamaran for the family’s company, seeing it through design, construction, and trials at sea. It’s named Hawea after his daughter.

“The boat sails amazing!” he said. “It’s a pretty quick book. Very smooth, quick, slick. Beautiful boat. It’s a little more modern than the original style that was built.”

Now, he and his crew are sailing the boat from the mainland West Coast to the shores of Waikiki, a trip he hopes will take a couple of weeks. It’s his first trans-Pacific crossing.

“It’s not crazy out there in the Pacific Ocean with the exception of hurricane season. They call it the Golden Month where in July you get the nice consistent trades that take you right to Hawaii,” he said.

After it’s docked at Ala Wai harbor, Woody Jr. will file the paperwork to put Hawea to work for the Brown family’s Waikiki Sailing Company. It replaces his brother’s boat, which has been working off Waikiki Beach for about 50 years.

This is how Woody Jr. is paying tribute to his father, who passed away in 2008.

“I think he would be very proud of me. He built his own. My brother built his own. So I felt I needed to do this myself and be a part of the whole build process from state to finish,” he said.

Travel | ka’anapali resort on west maui makes a comeback, the resorts, a few miles from fire-ravaged lahaina, are beckoning travelers with deals and new amenities.

oahu catamaran trips

It was 6:30 a.m. and I was heading out on a sunrise jog on the West Maui coast with Brad Kukral, the running ambassador for the Westin Maui Ka’anapali resort. Our group of early birds included casual runners like me and a few others who were more serious about the sport. Fortunately Kukral, a seasoned marathoner and a resort bartender, set an easy pace on the paved beach path that traces this scenic coastline.

As we ran steadily north from the resort, the morning light caught the mountaintops of neighboring Lanai and Molokai islands across the Pailolo and Au’au channels to the west. Lacy ocean waves gently lapped the shore and a few moored excursion catamarans bobbed placidly in the calm, windless conditions. To the east, the West Maui mountains were draped in mist and low-lying clouds, backlit by a rising sun. It was Maui’s morning magic at its best: quiet, serene and breathtakingly beautiful.

Reaching the Sheraton Maui Resort, set on the jagged volcanic Pu’u Keka’a (aka Black Rock) promontory, we maneuvered around a few buildings to transition from South Ka’anapali Beach to North Ka’anapali (aka Airport) Beach. Just past the historic Keka’a landing pier, I watched a family of sea turtles surface just offshore, raising their heads above the water as they commuted to their favorite feeding spot.

The most extraordinary thing about this morning jaunt along the beach was the emptiness of it all. Just a handful of people passed us on the path and the long expanse of Ka’anapali sand was almost devoid of strollers, beach-goers and swimmers. Having visited West Maui post-pandemic and about eight months before the fires, and busy Wailea in South Maui in February, this emptiness was indeed a strange sight: Ka’anapali beaches and pathways are almost always busy with walkers and runners enjoying morning wellness rituals and fresh air. But not today and, most likely, not in the near future, as the impact of the devastating fires that destroyed much of the nearby town of Lahaina last summer continues to affect the West Maui region and the island as a whole.

The fires dealt a serious blow to Maui’s economy and thousands of Lahaina locals lost their homes, businesses and jobs. Almost 100 residents lost their lives. “When is right time to visit Maui again? What is the best way to help?” Hawaii travelers asked themselves as tourism slowed to a crawl.

In March, the go-ahead signal came from Hawaii’s state and Maui’s county governments, and from the islanders too. Spread the word, they said: “Makaukau Maui” or “Maui is ready” in the Hawaiian language. And while the physical, economic and emotional recovery of Lahaina and its community will take many years, perhaps decades, there really couldn’t be a better time to visit West Maui, where most resorts and hotels are open again and welcoming visitors with the aloha spirit. Better yet: most Ka’anapali resorts are offering discount pricing and enticing packages — a rarity in the Islands, especially on Maui.

Where to stay

The Westin Maui Resort & Spa Ka’anapali

My deluxe digs at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa Ka’anapali were high up in the fabulous 217-room Hokupa’a tower. The recently remodeled Hokupa’a rooms provide wide ocean views and exclusive access to a club level called “The Lanai,” a great place to enjoy a drink and included breakfast and dinner pupus. The club’s shallow pool with in-water chaise lounges is dreamy place to enjoy a sunset and drinks crafted by their expert mixologists. Complimentary breakfast and dinner pupus, and all-day snack and non-alcoholic drinks are also provided.

The Westin Maui is putting the finishing touches on a property-wide, multi-million-dollar transformation, which also includes the redesigned Kukahi Tower and the debut of the Westin Maui social center — a 10,000-square-foot facility with a state-of-the-art arcade games, two Topgolf swing suites, and a bar and lounge. It’s the first amenity of its kind at a Hawaii resort and is slated to open to the public at the end of May. The Westin Maui also recently launched Ulu Kitchen — the resort’s signature breakfast, lunch and dinner experience in partnership with acclaimed Hawaii chef Peter Merriman (be sure to check out the Monkeypod mai tai flapjacks with Kula rum butter syrup, honey lilikoi foam and the saimin-style “Cure” for breakfast, the ahi poke bowl for lunch and the delicious grilled macadamia nut mahi mahi for dinner.)

The Westin also boasts one the best oceanfront pool complexes in Ka’anapali, with a large kids pool with two open-air slides, and several quieter pools, one with a waterfall and two others for adults only. A small infinity pool has a sandy bottom to wiggle your toes while soaking in the view. Numerous poolside cabanas offer waterside privacy for an extra charge. The resort offers a unique RunWestin program for runners as well as a daily yoga sessions for those who love to stretch and pose. The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa

In a spectacular location at the far northern end of Ka’anapali Beach, the Sheraton is committed to supporting its associates and neighbors who are still healing and providing travelers a myriad of ways to support the Maui economy by buying local, participating in volunteer experiences, and donating to those affected. In pursuit of these goals, Sheraton Maui Resort launched three new offerings, including a Return to Maui package with a donation earmarked for each stay, a “Malama at Your LEI-sure” fundraising initiative in collaboration with a local artist, and a Discover More of Maui with enhanced programming to discover local artisans and island destinations. Stroll the Ka’anapali path to the Sheraton around sunset to enjoy the hotels’ Hawaiian music and hula shows and the traditional Lele Kawa cliff-diving ceremony at Pu’u Keka’a every evening. Outrigger Ka’anapali Beach Resort

With a recently remodeled wing of premium rooms and newly acquired by Outrigger Resorts & Hotels, the property (formerly known as the Ka’anapali Beach Hotel) offers one of the best values in the Ka’anapali resort.

Hotel guests can enjoy complimentary Hawaiian cultural experiences from a team of cultural practitioners, including kukui nut lei-making, hula, and bamboo stamp making workshops, and classes in Olelo, the native Hawaiian language. Class sizes are limited and are held at the Kawenaokeao Cultural Center in the lobby.

Facing the beach and ocean, the breezy space that once housed the resort’s Hui Hui restaurant is now an outlet of the family-friendly Maui Brewing Company, a great place to enjoy a few cold, locally made brews, pub fare like fish tacos and seared ahi tuna salad, and, of course, take in the unforgettable West Maui sunsets. Details: outrigger.com/hawaii/maui/kaanapali-beach-resort-hotel

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

A huge resort with 779 rooms and 31 suites at the far south end of the Ka’anapali Beach path. The resort’s six pool areas have all reopened, though the swim-up grotto bar is currently closed for renovations. The resort has launched Nashville Nights, a songwriters series featuring a stellar lineup of talented artists from the Music City, is being held once a month for the next five months. The inaugural show took place on April 27, with performances by renowned artists Gracee Shriver and Noel Bisesti.

A Tour of the Stars experience for Hyatt guests is led by Astronomy Director, Eddie Mahoney and allows guests to experience Maui’s clear skies with a night of stargazing and a rooftop astronomy program. Programming is offered every night of the week at 8, 9 and 10 p.m. Astrophotography workshops are available by request. Details: hyatt.com/hyatt-regency/en-US/oggrm-hyatt-regency-maui-resort-and-spa
