Skoda M2M Roro boat is the best option, 2nd Best is Maldar Catamaran

We booked M2M Skoda Roro boat, superb experience. It has an AC lounge but even in March it was better to sit outside as the wind was very cool and the AC lounge was very crowded with not a single seat to sit. Note - It leaves EXACLTY on time, so reach ~15-20mins before departure. At the boarding there is an AC waiting lounge with seats, better to reach early. It leaves from Bhaucha Dhaka Waterfront, ensure you reach the right place. There is about 200m walk while boarding but its a longer walk when de-boarding. Best way to go is take a car and drive right inside. Super comfortable to drive in and drive out. Only issue was to sit anywhere you have to climb a few steps. People who couldnt climb, i saw them being carried on a chair. Ensure you book it online Loved the experience Now Maldar Catamaran - again superb experience, they ensure everyone gets a seat, which is not true for Ro-ro who overbook the seats. Catamaran also has an AC seating area. Only issue is they are not punctual All ferrys leave you at Mandwa jetty where you have to walk ~400-500m to reach car parking

Boarding was smooth and professionally handled. The staff on board however is untrained and Rude.. the staff was unpleasant not just with us but also mocked, grunted and misbehaved with our pet also which is absolutely unacceptable social behaviour. They will also fight you tooth and nail in the most aggressive manner possible ( think of the worst possible street fight scenario ) and if you are seen doing something that is not in their rule book..it is a reason good enough for them to pick a fight with you. They choose not to keep it civil, customer service and Decency is clearly not a priority as they have a monopoly contract. They look for opportunities to fine you ( they celebrate it ) and make The extra dime which is mostly going into The staff s personal pockets hence the aggression. P.S. there is no signage ( no smoking for eg ) of Their rules so If you do light up unknowingly, they will let you do so instead of warning you of the rules. click photos of you without your consent and start a fight. Well!! Also the staff themselves don’t follow Basic rules like wearing masks. When pointed out to the supervisor he seemed unaffected because staff clearly can get away with Absolutely anything here it’s the customers that need to stress Date of boarding - Mumbai to Alibaug 27th Jan 2022

maldar catamarans mumbai to alibaug

We were on board on 3rd March. Professionally run service on ground. Very efficient upto boarding and unboarding. But that's it. Onboard staff is untrained. WiFi issues for card payment especially once ferry sets sail. Double debit issues on card payments. No Gpay option! They don't refund either. Moral: buy n pay for whatever you wish BEFORE ferry sets sail. Never after that. Enjoy you time.

It was very nice. Booking can be done online and onsite. One can book for persons as well as vehicles. Vehicles can drive into the M2M ferry. one can remain inside ones car or move out to the open decks. Snacks are available in enclosed airconditioned sitting area. Around two or three trips per day and per one way. Little more on Papu Mashi The Nomad , title, "Birds & Breeze off the Coast of Mumbai.

We went to alibaug by M2M ferry. Really thrilled to have such an memorable trip. You can keep your Vehicle safely and enjoy the view from upper decks have the snacks in air conditioned lounge.

It was a lovely decision to take a day trip to Alibaug on Dec 31st. We drove to the Gateway of India, and parked at the MCGM Pay &Park behind the Taj. We walked to book tickets on the PNP ferry that left Colaba at 10.15 but would have been late to catch it so booked the10.45 Maldar one. Anthony at the PNP desk was extremely helpful in suggesting what we should book. He also suggested we book return tickets for 5.45 that would allow us to prepone our journey on the 3.15 ferry from Mandwa jetty. We had a lovely ride on the upper deck of the Maldar catamaran thats a 400+ seater. The ride took approximately an hour. Unfortunately the wada pav on deck was cold and we were quite disappointed. The coffee was okay though after we asked for them to make it stronger. The boat staff pointed out dolphins to us so we caught a glimpse of the lovely, lucky mammal! The seagulls flying along side the ferry made for an ABSOLUTELY beautiful experience! The ride back was even more comfortable especially, since we were full after lunch. We napped in the cool AC seats and reached the Gateway in about an hour. All on all, a smooth, very enjoyable day trip from Gateways to Alibaug!

Pack Your Bags! Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro Ferry Is Launching Next Month

Photo of Priya Pareek

If you've been planning to visit Alibaug, there can't be a better time to do it! Now you can reach the beach destination in the all new Ro-Ro ferry from Mumbai! The city’s first Ro-Ro ferry service is going to begin next month between Bhaucha Dhakka aka Ferry Wharf in Mazagaon and Mandwa in Alibaug.

Wondering what Ro-Ro stands for? It's for roll on, roll off. The new service will not only shorten travel time but it will also aid in easing the traffic on Mumbai and Goa highway.

Here’s everything you need to know about the much-awaited Ro-Ro Ferry Service which will make your weekend trips a lot easier and a lot more fun!

What is it?

Photo of Pack Your Bags! Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro Ferry Is Launching Next Month 1/5 by Priya Pareek

Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro Ferry Service is a part of Government of India’s Sagarmala Initiative. It aims at developing the country’s coastal areas. The Indian government and the Mumbai Port Trust have spent approximately ₹150 crore on the project. Besides reduced travel cost and travel time, another advantage is that travellers can offload their car at Mandwa and proceed to explore other destinations.

The service will not stop even in the monsoon, unlike the usual ferry services from the Gateway of India in Mumbai to Alibaug.

When is it starting?

Photo of Pack Your Bags! Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro Ferry Is Launching Next Month 2/5 by Priya Pareek

Mumbai Maritime Board officials have confirmed February end as the estimated beginning of this service. The Ro-Ro Ferry Service was supposed to launch in May 2018. However, legal tangles kept it in the pipeline for all this time. Finally, things are sorted, and the vessel that will serve as the roll-on, roll-off car ferry has arrived from Greece.

Once the vessel clears the trials and safety checks, service will begin by the end of this month or early March.

How to book tickets?

Photo of Pack Your Bags! Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro Ferry Is Launching Next Month 3/5 by Priya Pareek

The booking details will be made available to the public once the dredging process is complete. The company handling the ferry services will then take ownership of all things and respond with the booking details.

Timings, cost & capacity

Photo of Pack Your Bags! Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro Ferry Is Launching Next Month 4/5 by Priya Pareek

Cost: Tickets will be priced around Rs 1,000 per four-wheeler and Rs 235 for passengers. If true, this could mean that a one-way ride from Mumbai to Alibaug for a party of four could cost around Rs 2,000.

Travel time: Moreover, the ferry will cut the travel time between Mumbai and Alibaug from four hours to 45 minutes. Each journey between the two landings will take about an hour, of which 45 minutes will be travel and 15 minutes for loading/offloading of vehicles.

Capacity: Every ferry would be able to accommodate 513 persons including 500 passengers and 13 crew members. Additionally, 80 cars can fit into each ferry. The number of cars will drop down to 60 in case the sea is rough.

If you plan to visit Alibaug before March

Photo of Pack Your Bags! Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro Ferry Is Launching Next Month 5/5 by Priya Pareek

If you are hellbent on visiting Alibaug before the service starts, you can still take a ferry from Mumbai to Alibaug. The standard ferries operate between Gateway of India and Mandwa Port and have a travel time of 45 minutes to an hour. As for the cost, a one way ticket costs up to ₹150 per way to ₹135.

The four major ferry service providers include Ajanta, Maldar Catamarans, Apollo Catamaran and PNP Maritime Services. Ferries are available roughly every 45 minutes. The first boat departs from Mumbai at 6.15 am and the last boat from Mandwa leaves at 7.30 pm.

Mumbai’s Ro-Ro Ferry Service is starting from May & will take you from the city to Alibaug at fraction of a cost

By GQ Staff

Image may contain Vehicle Transportation Car Automobile Human and Person

Your road trip to Alibaug will soon include sea-travel. Obviously, your car isn't turning into a Bond-esque hovercraft that will float over the grey-brown waters of the Arabian Sea and get you to your destination over the next long weekend . But soon enough, in about two months' time, just like you, your car will be able to take the ferry to Alibaug too. All of this will be made possible thanks to the Mumbai's first Ro-Ro Ferry Service -- where Ro-Ro stands for roll on, roll off. It will take passengers from Mumbai's Ferry Wharf (also known as Bhaucha Dhakka) in Mazgaon to Alibaug's Mandwa port and from Mumbai to Nerul in Navi Mumbai, easing the traffic on the highway between Mumbai and Goa. All you will have to do as a part of this service is drive your vehicle onto the vessel, sit tight while it transports you, and drive away to your resort once you de-board at the destination.

Here's everything you need to know about how the Ro-Ro Ferry Service will work and how it will make your weekend trips a lot easier (and a lot more fun).

When is the Ro-Ro Ferry Service between Mumbai to Alibaug & Navi Mumbai starting?

The Ro-Ro Ferry Service is set to launch in May this year. According to Mumbai Mirror, the framework for the service is almost in place. The service has been delayed by a year but according to the officials, infrastructure of the Mumbai and Mandwa landings is almost complete. Additionally, the bridge that will help loading vehicles onto the ferry -- the pontoon bridge -- is also ready. According to CNT, the ferry service will minimize the travel time from South Mumbai to Navi Mumbai by 1.5 hours and you can save three hours while going to Alibaug.

While the current ferry will be bought from China, the chairperson of the Mumbai Port Trust, Sanjay Bhatia, was quoted by the daily as saying that the contractor will import boats from Greece in the future.

The service is scheduled to kick-start in May 2019, once the vessel clears the trials and the appropriate safety checks.

How to book tickets for the Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro Ferry Service

A part of the Government of India's Sagarmala Initiative, which aims at developing the country's coastal areas, the Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro Ferry Service will be open for business in about two month. The Indian government and the Mumbai Port Trust have spent a collective estimated INR150 crore on the project. However, whether the tickets will be made available by either of these entities or by a third party is still unclear. But what one does know at the moment is that the travel cost of between Mumbai and Alibaug will be greatly reduced.

According to Jayant Patil, the Peasant and Workers Party's MLA from Alibaug, the Ro-Ro Ferry Service will reduce the cost of travel from INR7 per km (by road) to just 25 paise per km (by sea).

Another advantage that travellers who prefer road trips will have is that the ferry service will make coastal Maharashtra and Goa more accessible. You can offload your car at Mandwa and then proceed onto exploring the hidden gems of the Konkan.

Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro Ferry timings, cost and schedule

The CEO of the Mumbai Maritime Board, Vikram Kumar, was quoted as saying that the service will begin in May, and will not stop even in the monsoon -- which is unlike the usual ferry service to Alibaug from the Gateway of India in Mumbai. While there's no official word on how much each ticket will cost, reports peg it at anywhere between Rs300-400 for a car, Rs700-800 for a bus, and Rs200-300 for a passenger.

Additionally, it should be able to decrease the travel time between Mumbai-Alibaug from four hours (by road) to somewhere in the range of 35-50 minutes. Each journey between the two landings is estimated to take about an hour -- 45 minutes of which will be travel and 15 minutes will be designated to the loading/offloading of vehicles on the ferry.

Every Ro-Ro ferry would be able to hold 200 passengers and 18 buses, according to CNT, along with 180 cars.

Mumbai to Alibaug ferry duration and cost

As of now, before the Ro-Ro Ferry Service takes off, travellers have to rely on the standard ferry to take them from Mumbai to Alibaug. These ferries operate between Gateway of India and Mandwa Port -- the same to points that the Ro-Ro will go between with a travel time of 45 minutes to an hour. Additionally, a one way ticket can cost up to INR150 per way, depending on where you're seated on the boat. Prices for air conditioned seats are the highest, whereas seats on the upper deck usually cost INR135 and seats on the main deck cost between INR85 to INR110, depending on which service you choose.

There are four major ferry service providers -- Ajanta, Apollo Catamaran, Maldar Catamarans and PNP Maritime Services -- that take passengers from Mumbai to Mandwa Port and then onto Alibaug by bus (the cost of which is included in the ticket) and back. Ferries are available roughly every 45 minutes. The first boat from Mumbai departs at 6.15 am and the last boat from Mandwa will leave at 7.30 pm.
