Yachtsman Steakhouse Review

disney world yachtsman steakhouse

Yachtsman Steakhouse is the real “T-Rex Cafe” in Walt Disney World. Except instead of being themed to dinosaurs, Yachtsman Steakhouse is a restaurant for dinosaurs. Well, at least the carnivorous ones. The place should have been named “Disney’s Awesome Salute to Carnivores Restaurant (of Excellence).” Unfortunately, Disney went with the more conventional “Yachtsman Steakhouse.”

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a signature restaurant at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Although we both love steak, it had taken us a while to visit Yachtsman Steakhouse because we always kept putting it off in favor of other favorites. We finally decided to visit Yachtsman Steakhouse when on the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan and trying to get the most bang for our buck . The restaurant is themed to a New England steakhouse, with masculine woods and some almost-kitschy coastal accents. While the restaurant is fairly well-lit, the rich woods and nice-looking rooms give it a look of understated elegance.

There are a few other items on the menu , but Yachtsman Steakhouse’s clear specialty is steak (hence the name…although wouldn’t its specialty be a touch more clear if they went with my proposed name?). As a signature restaurant participating in the Disney Dining Plan , Yachtsman Steakhouse is a 2-credit table service restaurant, and one of the restaurants at Walt Disney World that now requires a $10 per person deposit to secure reservations. It also accepts the Tables in Wonderland card for a 20% discount .

disney world yachtsman steakhouse

I’ve already touched upon the decor and its kitsch, but it’s probably worth discussing a bit more (and at the front of the review, to get all negatives out of the way first). Yachtsman Steakhouse looks nice with its masculine woods and understated dining room, and the highlight is when you first walk in and see a butcher room with meats aging and, when we were there, a butcher in there actually making his cuts!

However, there are also a few random accents that make the restaurant feel as if it’s stuck in the mid-1990s. I know plenty of New England restaurants have this same “look” to them, but I think Disney could convey the theme of the restaurant without the dated paintings and wallpaper. These are just little things, and it’s difficult to point to any one element of the design that made it feel dated, but I think all of these little things are more noticeable because the dining rooms are otherwise very understated.

That said, we ate there prior to the restaurant’s August and September 2012 refurbishment, and I have not yet heard what, if anything, changed with the look of the restaurant. Hopefully this decor was freshened up during the refurbishment, and if so, Yachtsman Steakhouse would be flawless to us. (Has anyone been there since September 14, 2012? How did it look?)

disney world yachtsman steakhouse

Our waiter for our meal at Yachtsman Steakhouse was Ricardo, and he was flat out awesome. He was incredibly fun, yet formal and knowledgeable of the menu. How he managed to strike this balance was beyond me, but he was basically the perfect Disney server–easily one of the best we’ve ever had at Walt Disney World or Disneyland. A bit of whimsy combined with knowledge and appropriate demeanor for a nicer restaurant.

disney world yachtsman steakhouse

Before diving into the substance of our meal, I should preface this review with some basic information about my food preferences. On a scale of “Vegan to Velociraptor” in terms of carnivorousness, I’m approximately “Tyrannosaurus Rex,” which is a step beyond Velociraptor (see how happy I am in the photo above? I’m like a kid in a candy store when I’m at a steakhouse!). So I’m off the chart as far as my enjoyment of meat goes. I actually view vegetables as unnecessary filler that gets in the way of meat. Except potatoes, but I’ve been told countless times those are not vegetables, so I guess they get a pass. Obviously there’s some hyperbole here, but my point is that if you’re a vegan or vegetarian, it’s likely that you and I will not share similar views of Yachtsman Steakhouse.

In short, Yachtsman Steakhouse brings the A-game for steak-lovers. The meal started out with a bread basket, the highlight of which is the delicious onion bread. That onion bread plus the roasted garlic and butter is a deadly combination (for anyone you talk to later in the night). It’s also a highly, highly delicious combination. Normally we don’t like to overdo it on bread, but when Ricardo asked if we’d like another basket of bread, the answer was an unequivocal “YES!”

disney world yachtsman steakhouse

For appetizers, we both ordered the same fried crab appetizer, and it was incredible. Not only was the crab perfectly breaded and prepared, but the tomatoes and other garnishes were excellent!

disney world yachtsman steakhouse

Now, on to the glorious entrees! Sarah had the Surf ‘n’ Turf (butter-poached Maine Lobster and Prime Strip Steak), and I had the 24 oz Porterhouse.

My Porterhouse was amazing. Flavorful, perfectly marbled, and with the perfect amount of seasoning. The roasted garlic butter added a great flavor to the steak, but it wasn’t doused in this butter so heavily that it masked the steak’s own natural flavor. Those who like incredibly lean cuts might not be as big of fans of this Porterhouse (or any Porterhouse, for that matter), but I like a bit of fat for flavor. If Yachtsman Steakhouse sold post cards, I would have bought one, because that steak was something to write home about!

At $46 it was pricey even by Disney standards, but it was 24 ounces and amazing. Given that, I don’t think it was out of line compared to other steak on property, especially for the size. It was certainly better than the $66 entree I had the day before at Narcoossee’s! I would not recommend visiting Yachtsman Steakhouse with an eye towards “dining on a dime,” but the Porterhouse was definitely large enough for two people to split if you want to go that route.

Usually I try to only post one or two photos of each entree we have in these reviews, but I’m having a tough time cutting anything here, so I’ll just present this glorious tribute to the Porterhouse:

I may not look all that happy in this photo, but really, I’m just in the zone. Eating a steak this excellent requires dedication and concentration. No time for posed photos.

Truly the best overall steak I’ve had on Disney property. The filet mignon at Napa Rose comes close , and it’s difficult to compare two radically different cuts of meat, but I’m going to give the edge to Yachtsman Steakhouse.

As for Sarah’s meal, Sarah reported that her lobster was better than the lobster she had at Narcoossee’s . If you recall, she had a whole Maine Lobster at Narcoossee’s, so this is assessment is impressive since usually the lobster on a combo lobster/filet dish is inferior to the lobster on a dedicated “whole Maine lobster” dish. She described the lobster as tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, and similarly really liked the steak. I tried some of her strip steak, and while it didn’t compare to my Porterhouse, it was very excellent. Tender and juicy, especially for a strip steak.

disney world yachtsman steakhouse

After dinner, Sarah ordered a cup of cappuccino. I’m not really sure which one, and I know almost nothing about coffee, so I can’t accurately assess it, but to my uninformed palate, it tasted delicious!

disney world yachtsman steakhouse

For dessert, I had the Peanut Butter and Pretzel Gianduja Cake, with salted caramel gelato and liquid ganache. This dessert was the bomb(dotcom) ! Even though it was really rich, I didn’t mind at all, because I love peanut butter and it wasn’t too large (who am I kidding, it could have been 10 times this size and I would’ve eaten it all!). The mix of flavors and textures in the cake were excellent, and I had never had caramel gelato before this–it was also quite good. At $11, it was fairly expensive for a relatively small dessert, but it tasted excellent. I probably wouldn’t have paid that much for it out of pocket, but as a Disney Dining Plan dessert, it’s a great pick.

disney world yachtsman steakhouse

Sarah had the Lemon Pudding Cake, which she said was pretty good. She said it was incredibly moist, and that the blueberry shake that accompanied it was also excellent. I’m not quite sure about the war paint in the middle of her plate there, but I guess that’s how New England steakhouses present their desserts. Chowder-heads! 😉

disney world yachtsman steakhouse

All in all, Yachtsman Steakhouse was amazing. Our meal was, essentially, a tribute to America. That meal at Yachtsman Steakhouse cemented the restaurant as one of our top Walt Disney World restaurants. Our meal surpassed Bistro de Paris by a tad to claim the #2 overall slot for best restaurants at Walt Disney World ( behind only Victoria & Albert’s ). Although there are some dated elements in the decor, that was hardly enough to ding Yachtsman Steakhouse’s score.

The next time we eat at Yachtsman Steakhouse, we definitely won’t use the Disney Dining Plan, and will skip appetizers and desserts in favor of the many steakhouse-style sides that can be ordered to accompany the steaks. We saw a few of these pass our table, and they looked excellent. Our appetizers and desserts were good, but they were expensive (especially the desserts), and I’d rather focus on steakhouse strengths when at a steakhouse. It’ll be difficult, but I’ll probably also order the Beef Wellington next time instead of the Porterhouse. The Porterhouse was absolutely amazing, but I suspect just about any cut of meat will be amazing at Yachtsman. We highly recommend Yachtsman Steakhouse to anyone who enjoys a good steak.

Another request for an update now that it has re-opened again. Thanks!

' src=

Any plans to do an updated review here soon? It says you haven’t been here since 2012 yet you said it was amazing and gave it a 10/10. Hoping to see some updated thoughts on this steakhouse as well as Le Cellier as we’re trying to decided between the two for our upcoming June 2020 trip. Thanks!

' src=

I agree!! The menu has had soooo many changes since then. Would love an updated review.

' src=

Just eaten here for the third time and was a total disaster. Our waiter knew little about the menu or drinks then forgot 2 of the drinks we ordered one was Diet Coke so not too hard to remember The steaks arrived my wife said medium fillet was cold on the outside and centre one sons steak was fine he asked for fries not mash and no sauce which arrived ok My other son and I shared a porterhouse which was excellent then the problems started alll the side dishes wee cold and looked as if they were preprepared and left on one side . We complained to which we were told they would be replaced immediately Then mash and sauce arrived for our sons steak which was ordered without and arrived perfectly After we had nearly finished the porterhouse my wife’s steak arrived it was the original steak reheated as were all the side dishes which were then TrueType inedible. The manager apologised on many occasions and sent extra desserts Monod which I could eat as I am diabetic which I told the waiter originally The y did reduce the credits taken from the dining plan plan but I would have sooner had a good meal and used all the credits WE will not be revisiting soon

' src=

Hi- just curious why you wouldn’t use the Dining plan for this restaurant? This is our first time at DW, so i’m confused. Thank you

' src=

I assume he means because the dining plan specifies that you get appetizer, entree, and dessert as opposed to steak with added sides of your choice. With the dining plan, you have less control over how you spend your money at each meal.

' src=

It is by far my favorite restaurant at DW & I’ve eaten at most. Their bone marrow w/the ribeye is out of this world! I think they lace it w/crack bc I dream of this bone marrow!

' src=

We went here in 2015, this review is spot on with our experience. We are going back in 2017 and agree that we aren’t doing the dining plan. We also thought the steakhouse sides looked really good. We plan to share the porterhouse and get a few different sides to share. This is one of our must have ADRs for this next trip.

' src=

Don’t worry about the decor…it’s elegant and appropriate as you would expect. The food is exceptional! What a treat! Don’t overlook what is certainly one of Disney’s best………and one of the most outstandiing steakhouses ANYWHERE! Bravo!

' src=

I’ll be there for dinner on January 06, 2015. Thanks for the amazing review!

' src=

My hubby and I have an ADR here for the beginning of October. We are from New England so I’ve been hesitant to keep the reservation. My indecisive nature makes me want to try something new and exciting yet knows we’d love the Yachtsman. Any current thoughts on a signature restaurant for two? I’m dying to go to V&A but it’s just not in the budget this trip. Thanks!! Love your blog!

California Grill would be very nice!

Yachtsman Steakhouse Review

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a table-service restaurant in Walt Disney World’s Yacht Club Resort. Termed as a signature restaurant, Yachtsman Steakhouse would require two credits on the Disney Dining Plan (when applicable) and has higher prices than the usual sit down spot at WDW although they do offer Annual Pass and DVC discounts. The restaurant specializes in, you guessed it, steaks and is one of the few true steakhouses on property. In this post, we’ll review the restaurant’s atmosphere, food and value.

Yachtsman Steakhouse sign

While I’ve had the pleasure to eat at many and most of Walt Disney World’s restaurants, Yachtsman Steakhouse seemingly was the one that I kept missing one way or another. There was always another restaurant to try or money to save and then the restaurant had a long closure due to COVID before opening late this summer. With the opportunity to finally catch the white whale, this yachtsman took advantage. I’m so sorry, that will be my last nautical/yachting/Moby-Dick joke of this post.

As much as I love red meat and consider myself a good carnivore, I’m not as drawn to steakhouses as some other restaurants. I don’t think they offer as much room for imagination in their offerings and I usually like seafood just as much as most steak. A steakhouse really has to wow me for me to feel like it’s worth the price, especially relative to other fancy restaurants. Thankfully, Yachtsman Steakhouse went above and beyond my expectations.

Yachtsman Steakhouse meat room

The restaurant makes no bones about who they’re appealing to. Immediately upon entry, guests are met by the dry-aging room also known as (by me) the meat room! The room is tucked away to the left of the kitchen and seating area. It’s an impressive room filled with incredible cuts of meat.

Yachtsman Steakhouse dining room

Inside of the actual restaurant, the restaurant is themed similarly to the rest of the Yacht Club. There’s some New England style architecture and heavy nautical theming. Warm wood tones abound along with a deep turquoise giving Yachtsman Steakhouse a masculine yet inviting feel.

Yachtsman Steakhouse light

There are several dining rooms throughout the restaurant, all of them are pretty light and airy. I wouldn’t say the restaurant is overly decorated or trying hard for a modern aesthetic, instead Yachtsman Steakhouse knows what it is and does that well. My favorite feature of the restaurant are the beautiful windows and ceiling on the far right of the dining room. Many of the windows in that area arch out giving the look of a captain’s quarters. I like these small, understated touches that make the dining room somewhat unique.

Yachtsman Steakhouse windows mirror

Let’s move on the menu , where the atmosphere of the restaurant takes its cues. There’s a few different offerings on the menu but everything revolves around the steak. Writing this while hungry was an absolute mistake.

Yachtsman Steakhouse rolls

Being a signature restaurant, Yachtsman Steakhouse offers a great bread service. The onion pull apart roll is perfectly flaky and delicious. It’s served warm and matches wonderfully with the roasted garlic or Himalayan salt butter that comes with the bread service.

Yachtsman Steakhouse garlic

There’s also multigrain cherry rolls, and I liked these almost as much even if they are supposedly healthy! The cherry gave them a nice pop of flavor.

Yachtsman Steakhouse ribeye

Moving on to the entrees, I ordered the 16-oz Rib-Eye Steak which comes with Blue Cheese-Shallot Butter and is served with one accompaniment selection. The Rib-Eye was cooked a perfect medium rare and was exceptionally tender. The flavor of the meat alone was delicious and the Blue Cheese-Shallot Butter added to the rich and creaminess. This was huge and extremely rich. I had next to no chance of finishing this in one sitting but it was exceptional!

Yachtsman Steakhouse filet mignon

We also tried the 8-oz Filet Mignon which is served with Cognac-Truffle Butter and served with one accompaniment selection. This wasn’t as gigantic as the Rib-Eye but it was just as delicious, if not more so. The meat was even more tender, to the point where I’m not sure that you needed a steak knife to cut it. I preferred the Truffle Butter to the Blue Cheese Butter, although it was even more rich. Everything about this dish melted in your mouth.

Yachtsman Steakhouse mashed potatoes

Yachtsman Steakhouse was all an exercise in how much someone could eat and that included the sides. The mashed potatoes were delicious and, I say this in praise, you could really taste the butter in them. They were very smooth and paired well with the meat.

Yachtsman Steakhouse potato gratin

While I liked the mashed potatoes, the potato-leek gratin blew it out of the water. What’s better than buttery potatoes? Buttery potatoes with cheese on top of them. Yes, it was another dish in the line of heavy foods but I would be happy to eat a bowl of this anytime.

Each of the steaks came with one accompaniment and the option we didn’t have was the french fries. We have had those at the next door Crew’s Cup Lounge and they are outstanding, as well.

Yachtsman Steakhouse mushrooms

There were several sides that you can add to your meal and we decided to go with the Roasted Seasonal Mushrooms. While I didn’t think the mushrooms quite lived up to everything else on the menu, they were fresh and delicious. They paired well with each of the steaks and I’d be interested in trying any of the other sides there.

Yachtsman Steakhouse cake

In the name of research, dessert seemed like a necessity 😉 We ordered the Yachtsman’s Chocolate Cake and it was a good decision. Here’s what it looks like when it is cut open!

Yachstman Steakhouse opened cake

The layers are made up of Dark Chocolate Mousse, Chocolate Decadence Cake, Mixed Berry Curd, Peanut Butter Crunch and Mousse. Needless to say, this was very rich, delicious, and too much food. The menu does say it serves two and that is certainly accurate! The Mixed Berry Curd offset some of the richness of the chocolate. While maybe a little much for me, this was one of the most impressive desserts I’ve had anywhere.

I haven’t mentioned the prices here because they’re all very high and I thought I’d get the praise out of the way. All of the steaks are between the $50-$60 range with the sides under $15 and the cake at $19. While it’s a lot, I didn’t think this was out of line with real world steakhouses. The quality of the food certainly matches up to that. I do think there are more creative restaurants at Disney World where you can spend about the same amount but whether you should choose them over Yachtsman Steakhouse depends on how much you like steak.

Yachtsman Steakhouse seating

Overall, Yachtsman Steakhouse is one of the best restaurants in Walt Disney World. While it may not be inventive or modern in its design, it’s a restaurant that has exceptional food and fits in well within the theme constraints. The only negative is the steep price although I’d consider it fair. For meat eaters, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Overall Rating – 9.5/10

Restaurant Spotlight: Yachtsman Steakhouse

3/20/2024   |   Reviews , Walt Disney World

I want to share one of Walt Disney World Resorts “Best Kept Secrets” for a mouthwatering Steak Dinner Introducing: Yachtsman Steakhouse located at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort in the Epcot Resort area.

Yachtsman Steakhouse is open for dinner only. If you are using the Disney Dining Plan, this restaurant requires two table service credits for dinner. Advance Reservations are recommended and can be made 60 before your vacation begins so be sure to contact your Me and The Mouse Travel Agent for assistance with your dining.

This Signature Dining Experience, guests are asked to abide by a dress code. Men may wear khakis, slacks, jeans or dress shorts and collared shirts. Sport coats are optional. Women may wear Capri pants, skirts, dresses, jeans or dress shorts. The following items are not permitted: tank tops, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, hats for gentlemen, cut-offs, torn clothing and t-shirts with offensive language and/or graphics.

During our visit, we were impressed with how friendly and helpful everyone was. The high- quality, grain-fed beef is aged in-house. As our gracious hostess seated us, we were able to watch butchers hand cut steaks to perfection, and we also checked out the chef's preparing dinner on an oak-fired grill in the open kitchen. We were fortunate to be seated by the window and got to enjoy the view of the Stormalong Bay pool. If you choose to experience this fine dining location - after being seated, be sure to look up so you don’t miss seeing the exquisite and intricate woodwork on the ceiling.

Paul was our waiter and had a warm and welcoming personality. He was very helpful making suggestions to enhance our dining experience and was happy to answer any and all questions we had. We could not have asked for a better dining experience! Paul added his own special “magical” touch to our meal.

My adult children and I each selected the Filet Mignon served with Mashed Potatoes and Cabernet Wine Sauce. My husband chose the New York Strip steak served with Potato Gratin with Peppercorn Brandy Sauce. Each steak was partnered with the perfect sauce and potato choice. I could not resist adding a side of Truffle Macaroni and Cheese and it did not disappoint. I reluctantly shared with my family. It was a “winner” by a unanimous vote. Other tempting choices offered on the menu for starters were French Onion and Lobster Bisque soup. Salad choices include a Caesar Salad and the Yachtsman Wedge Salad.

Appetizer choices included: Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, Artisanal Cheeses, Tuna Tartare, and Quick-friend Shrimp and Calamari to name a few.

Steak choices were Filet Mignon, New York Strip, Prime Rib-Eye Steak, Roast Prime Rib of Beef, Kansas City Strip Steak and a 32-ounce Porterhouse for two people. Additional Entrée selections included: Elk Tenderloin, Live Maine Lobster, Braised Beef Short Ribs, Sea Bass, All-Natural Roasted Chicken and Okinawan Purple Sweet Potato-filled Pasta.

In addition to our favorite Truffle Macaroni and Cheese side dish, the Yachtsman’s Twice-baked Potato was very enticing as a side option. Caramelized Onions, Creamed Spinach, Spring Pea Risotto and Sautéed Mushrooms and Sautéed Vegetable Fricassee were also available.

We ended our meal very full but couldn’t resist the opportunity to try (and share) The Admirals Cake. The Admirals Cake consisted of Valrhona Chocolate Brownie/Sponge Cake Layered Banana’s Foster Jam/Caramel Crisps/Sea Salted Ganache. We just couldn’t stop eating.

Additional dessert choices included: Chocolate Peanut Cake, Lime Semifreddo, Carrot Cake (a no sugar added dessert), Spiced Pumpkin Cheesecake, The Yachtsman Sundae (a trio of Gelato), Seasonal Sorbet Trio, and Crème Brulee.

disney world yachtsman steakhouse

If you are bringing children, don’t worry, you are dining at Disney, so children are not forgotten here. Yachtsman offers diverse kid menu options: Grilled Chicken Breast, Baked Fish of the Day, Macaroni and Cheese, Oak-grilled Steak Skewer, and Orecchiette Pasta and Meatballs.

I am excited to share my family’s experience with you and I hope you will consider visiting Yachtsman Steakhouse on your next visit to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Contact your Me and the Mouse Travel Agent to assist your family with a “magical” dining experience at Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Tips And Tricks For The Best Disney World Eating Experience

A ny wizened Disney parkgoer will tell you there's theme park food, and then there's Disney theme park food. Sure, you'll find burgers, hot dogs, and complex carbohydrates galore at Walt Disney World Resort, but the Most Magical Place on Earth is also home to its fair share of culinary gems -- including the world's first Michelin-starred theme park restaurant.

What separates Disney World from your standard dining destination is that it's complicated. Really complicated. Most guests are too busy getting to grips with the likes of Genie+ (Disney's paid skip-the-line service that replaced FastPass in 2021) and the overwhelming task of trying to navigate from Point A to Point B within the 27,520-acre resort to give Disney's sprawling culinary scene the strategic attention it requires.

Fortunately, now you don't have to. As a former Disney World cast member and lifelong visitor of the parks, I've spent years mastering the art of eating well at the resort. From scoring the perfect table to dining on a budget (yes, it's possible), I've compiled my top tips to make your trip as tasty as possible. All prices mentioned here are accurate as of publication and -- like everything at Disney -- are subject to change. Here's everything you need to know before your next vacation.

Read more: Waiters Reveal What Restaurants Get The Best Tips

Don't Be Afraid To Order Off The Kids' Menu

Nobody has ever accused Disney World of doling out small portions. Its adult meals are notoriously large at both quick service and table service restaurants, to the point that Disney itself has previously claimed it will slim down its entrees to cut costs.

This is a blessing sent directly by Mickey Mouse himself if you're diving into dinner with a big appetite. However, if you're not ravenous, you can always order from the kids' menu at quick-service restaurants. While this won't offer the same dishes as its grown-up counterpart, plenty of restaurants -- such as Magic Kingdom's Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café, EPCOT's Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Craft Drafts & Barbecue, and Animal Kingdom's Pizzafari -- feature a select few duplicates on a smaller scale.

As a bonus, kids' meals also come at a fraction of the cost. Empanadas con Queso, for example, cost $14 on EPCOT's La Cantina de San Angel's adult menu (served with rice and beans) but $9.50 on the kids' menu, which also includes a drink and side of fruit, corn chips, and nacho cheese with your smaller portion. It's a joint victory for your taste buds and your wallet.

Eat During Off-Hours To Avoid Crowds

There's a reason why Disney World's portions are so big; the park is huge, exhausting, and takes a lot of calories to navigate. If you tend to fall into the nearest quick service whenever you run low on fuel, odds are you'll be surrounded by hundreds of other hangry parkgoers desperately trying to get their hands on chicken strips and a Sprite at the same time.

To avoid the crowds, try being more strategic with your meal timings. Generally speaking, restaurants are at their least busy first thing in the morning, with Disney declaring 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. to be its breakfast rush hour. For lunch, try to eat between 11 a.m. and 11.30 a.m., or at the very end of the lunch shift, which is around 4 p.m. As for dinner, try waiting to eat as late as possible.

If you don't mind missing (or have already seen) that park's nighttime spectacular, it's also worth trying to overlap your mealtimes with showtimes. The exception is any restaurant that offers a view of said shows, such as EPCOT's Rose & Crown Dining Room, the Polynesian's Tiki Terrace, and Magic Kingdom's Crystal Palace, which all fill up during Luminous The Symphony of Us or Happily Ever After.

Choose Your Character Dining Experience Wisely

Not all character dining experiences are built equal. The restaurants offering this option will give you the chance to snap a pic with a handful of select characters, but they differ from location to location. If you want to say hi to the big cheese himself, Mickey Mouse appears at Chef Mickey's (obviously), The Garden Grill Restaurant, Hollywood & Vine (only during lunch and dinner), Topolino's Terrace (at breakfast), Cape May Café (again, only at breakfast), Tusker House, and 'Ohana (once again, only at breakfast).

If you opt for one of Disney World's most popular character dining options, prepare for a relatively hectic experience. These restaurants run like clockwork, so you'll definitely get your allotted time with some characters. However, the busier restaurants -- primarily Cinderella's Royal Table, Chef Mickey's, and 'Ohana -- will often not offer the same quality interactions as those slightly more below-the-radar options, such as The Garden Grill Restaurant and Tusker House. Ironically, the least popular character dining arguably also offers better, more unique food options, so it's a win-win situation.

Book A Late Breakfast To Enjoy Two Meals At Once

Considering the price (and the sheer amount of food involved), it's not only rare to book a table service breakfast and lunch at Disney World, but downright unwise. If you can't decide which meal you want to experience, however, there is a sneaky way you can get a taste of both -- you just need to be extremely smart about your reservation.

At restaurants that offer both a breakfast and lunch service -- such as Crystal Palace, a whimsical Winnie the Pooh character dining experience at Magic Kingdom -- the buffet options are swapped out the minute the morning meal slot ends. If you book the last breakfast slot (typically around 10.30 a.m.), you'll be there in time for the final 15 minutes or so of bacon, eggs, and churro Mickey waffles, and also get to sample the creamy mashed potatoes and succulent country fried chicken offered at lunch.

Request Your View As Early As Possible

Just because a restaurant boasts a nighttime view doesn't mean all tables get a piece of the pie. If you book a restaurant offering a view of the fireworks, such as Rose & Crown Dining Room, Narcoossee's, or 'Ohana, don't presume you'll waltz into a premium seat. Usually, only select tables are privy to that view, and if you don't request it, there will almost always be people two steps ahead who've managed to nab the tables before you.

The same goes for restaurants with notably more desirable dining areas. At Magic Kingdom's Be Our Guest Restaurant, for example, you may prefer to sit in The Grand Ballroom, The West Wing, or The Rose Gallery, while at EPCOT's epic underwater experience Coral Reef Restaurant, everyone knows the tables by the tank are superior to all others. To guarantee the table of your choice, you'll sometimes be able to request certain seating areas when you check in to your dining reservation on the My Disney Experience app. If that isn't an option, it's best to arrive at the restaurant early to put in your request; if they can, cast members will almost always try to make it work.

Skip The Sides To Save Money

Remember those gargantuan quick-service entrees we were talking about earlier? Well, they don't always need to be quite as big -- or expensive. A lot of quick service restaurants across Disney World's theme parks price up their entrees as a combo, bundling the main with a side such as fries, potato chips, or salad. If you're not hungry enough to justify paying for both, you can request to just order the entree without the side.

In the process, you'll also manage to save a few dollars per person. While that sounds relatively minimal, it can easily add up over the cost of an entire vacation -- especially if you're a family of five dining multiple times a day -- leaving you with extra cash for something even more fun, like a post-lunch Mickey Premium Bar or buttery popcorn to munch on during the fireworks display.

Check Dress Codes Ahead Of Time

Disney World is one of those strange but wonderful places where you could have lunch in a tank top and sweatpants or an elaborate tulle dress inspired by your favorite princess and still fit in. If you want to dine at one of the more upscale restaurants, however, there are slightly stricter expectations of what you can and cannot wear.

Resort table service restaurants, including California Grill, Cítricos, Narcoossee's, and Flying Fish, all request that guests follow the minimum dress code requirements. For men, this means khakis, slacks, or dress shorts and collared shirts, with jeans only permitted if they're in good condition. The latter is true for women too, who also have the option to wear capri pants, skirts, dresses, or dress shorts. Tank tops, flip-flops, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, and torn clothing are all forbidden.

Stricter still is the dress code for Victoria & Albert's at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. This isn't your average theme park restaurant; this is Disney's first Michelin-starred restaurant, with prix-fixe menus starting at $295 per person in its Dining Room. Guests are expected to dress the part in elegant semi-formal or formal attire to fit in with the restaurant's glamorous style. To avoid disappointment (especially at Victoria & Albert's, where cast members tend to be more stringent with the dress code), be sure to check out the full requirements for each table service restaurant on the Disney World website before your trip.

Always Tell The Restaurant If You're Celebrating A Special Occasion

First of all, a disclaimer: Wearing a birthday badge will not guarantee unlimited Lightning Lanes, a private meet-and-greet with Mickey Mouse, or a night in the Cinderella Castle Suite. Cast members have the ability to create magical moments, but it's not a requirement -- and they almost certainly won't sprinkle extra pixie dust on your day if you demand that they do so.

With that in mind, there's nothing wrong with gently letting the restaurant know it's your birthday, whether that's by indicating it's a special occasion while checking in for your reservation on the My Disney Experience app or telling a cast member when you arrive. Often (but again, not always), this will result in extra magic, such as a complimentary dessert or drinks. Regardless of whether you have a table service meal booked, be sure to pick up a birthday pin at guest services to boost your chances of other magical moments, such as birthday well-wishes from cast members and characters alike, or maybe even the occasional tasty treat courtesy of Mickey.

Breakfast Is Cheaper (But Not Necessarily Better)

Breakfast is almost always the cheapest meal at table service restaurants, buffets, and character dining. At Cinderella's Royal Table, for example, it will cost you $69 per adult for the first meal of the day versus $84 per adult for dinner. If you're looking to experience a sit-down meal for less, that's all the information you need. However, if you want to prioritize quality over price, breakfast may not always be your best option.

Generally speaking, Disney World restaurants -- especially those serving buffets -- tend to have worse reviews for breakfast than any other meal. While there's the occasional outlier, such as Kona Cafe at Animal Kingdom Lodge and Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge, that's largely because breakfast tends to be very similar from restaurant to restaurant. The likes of 'Ohana and Topolino's Terrace are best enjoyed after breakfast when the more diversified dishes like the Honey-Coriander Chicken Wings, 'Ohana Bread Pudding, and Ratatouille Fritters come out to play.

On a non-food note, booking a table service breakfast can also be a pretty inefficient way to use up the hours when Disney World's theme parks are most empty. Between shorter lines or a generic breakfast that you could just as easily pick up at a quick service restaurant, the choice is easy.

Use Mobile Order As Much As Possible

The days before Disney World had Mobile Order were dark, gray, and chaotic -- at least, that's how we remember it. There's really no stressing just how convenient this feature is when you're desperate for a quick energy boost but don't want to waste time  waiting for a budget-friendly hotdog at Casey's Corner instead of standing in line for Space Mountain.

Mobile Order is available through the My Disney Experience app (which, in case you hadn't realized, is basically the heart and soul of your Disney World vacation). To order food, all you need to do is press the plus symbol at the middle of the screen, click "Order Food," choose a restaurant, and then select and pay for your offerings just like you would through the likes of Uber Eats or Postmates.

The difference here is that Donald Duck isn't going to shoulder his way through the crowds to hand-deliver your chicken strips. You'll still need to go and pick up your food, but instead of waiting in line, just let the restaurant know that you've arrived and grab your food once it's ready at the designated Mobile Order counter.

Skip The Fountain Water And Ask For Cups To-Go

There are two reasons why you may want to avoid buying bottled water whenever you get thirsty at Disney World. For one thing, it's expensive -- at about $4 a bottle, you could easily spend a small fortune trying to avoid dehydration. Even more critically, the water sold at Disney World is Dasani, which is infamously bitter (and placed pretty poorly in Mashed's rankings of bottled water brands ).

The good news is it's not the only option for water at Disney World. Even better, the other option is free. All Disney World eateries -- whether quick service or table service -- will give you a free cup of water if you ask. If you drop by a quick service restaurant, you aren't even obligated to order food to secure your free H20. It's worth noting that these restaurants will only provide cups of water; they won't fill up your bottle. However, you can always ask for a few cups of water and pour those into your bottle for yourself. You can also track down each park's water refill stations (EPCOT has the most).

Your Best Meal Probably Won't Be In The Park

Though guests enjoy Disney World's theme park food considerably more than its competitors, the best meal of your vacation will probably be found elsewhere. Some of the highest-rated restaurants on Disney World property are located in the resorts, not the parks themselves, making them well worth the visit.

Tripadvisor's highest-rated Disney World restaurant is Victoria & Albert's -- which, as previously mentioned, isn't exactly the most affordable dinner. Slightly cheaper are other well-reviewed hotel restaurants, such as California Grill at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney's Yacht Club Resort, and Sanaa at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. Disney Springs also has a solid restaurant lineup, with highlights including Chef Art Smith's Homecomin' and The Boathouse.

While the FOMO can be real when you leave the park for a few hours, it's pretty easy to access some of the hotels from the theme parks. Disney's transportation system is surprisingly robust, meaning there's always a bus, monorail, or Skyliner to get you where you need to go. If you're at Magic Kingdom (which has the weakest dining options of all the Disney World parks ), you can even make your way to Disney's Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian resorts for lunch or dinner by foot.

Plan Your Table Service Meals In Advance

Spontaneity isn't easy at Disney World. By its very nature, a vacation to the theme park requires meticulous planning, with the most popular restaurants booking up months in advance -- two months, to be precise.

Disney drops new Advance Dining Reservations (ADRs) 60 days ahead of time at approximately 6 a.m. EST. If your dream is to dine at one of the resort's most popular restaurants, such as the galactic-themed Space 220 Restaurant or the princess dining experience at Cinderella's Royal Table, you'll need to set a reminder to get online or pick up the phone to try and place your booking ASAP on that day.

If you're staying at a Disney hotel, however, you have an advantage. Hotel guests can book tables for their entire trip (up to 10 days in length) as of 60 days before their arrival. Since you're fighting a smaller pool of people, that improves the odds of securing tables at even the über-popular restaurants for later on in your trip.

Don't Be Afraid To Ask Cast Members About Last-Minute Availability

If you don't manage to get your dream dining reservation, all hope is not lost. It's not totally impossible to secure a last-minute table by approaching the cast members on the host stand and asking if there are any empty tables from no-shows. There's no guarantee that they'll say yes (and you definitely shouldn't go in blind, assuming you'll get all your dining reservations this way), but multiple guests have described successfully using this tactic.

Disney's Mobile Dine Walk-Up Waitlist makes this even easier. There's no guarantee that restaurants will offer this option on any given day, but you can see where a waitlist is currently available via the My Disney Experience app (where else?) or by scanning the QR code in the restaurant lobby. If the waitlist is available, all you need to do is add yourself to the list and wait for the notification and text telling you your table is ready. While you'll receive an estimated wait time, it's often pretty inaccurate -- both in a good and bad way -- so you may not want to stray too far from the restaurant in the meantime.

Disney Confirms Select Guest To Pay More for Experiences as Prices Reach New Heights

in Walt Disney World

A family enjoys a meal at Boma at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, taken from the Disney Dining Plan official information page.

Despite rising prices, Walt Disney World Resort will have a busier-than-usual summer this year. Disney has confirmed that select guests would pay more for experiences as a new deal shuns out most of the crowds.

Disney World Confirms New Passholder Discounts Coming This Summer

Walt Disney World Resort has introduced an exclusive limited-time benefit for its Annual Passholders , offering an enhanced discount of 20% on food and non-alcoholic beverages at selected dining venues throughout the resort. This special promotion will be available during the V.I.PASSHOLDER Days from May 28 to June 26, 2024. To avail of this offer, Disney World Annual Passholders must present their valid Annual Pass ID and a government-issued photo ID at the time of purchase.

It’s important to note that this discount cannot be combined with other offers, and dining options are subject to change . Furthermore, Passengers must have a theme park reservation and valid admission to access the theme parks. Here’s a list of the participating dining locations across various resort areas.

Magic Kingdom:

  • Be Our Guest Restaurant
  • Cinderella’s Royal Table
  • The Crystal Palace
  • The Diamond Horseshoe
  • Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen

A family enjoys a meal in a grand dining room with large, ornate windows in the background. The mother, wearing red, smiles at her daughter in a blue dress and tiara as they discuss their vacation.

Good for Passholders, Bad for the Rest of the WDW Population

While the enhanced discount offered to Annual Passholders at Walt Disney World Resort significantly benefits this specific group , it could potentially result in other guests paying more for meals. Since the discount is exclusively available to Passholders during the specified promotional period, families and individuals who do not hold Annual Passes may miss out on the opportunity to save on dining expenses. As a result, non-passholder guests may pay regular prices for food and beverages at the participating dining locations, effectively spending more than Passholders who enjoy discounted rates.

This disparity in pricing could lead to some families feeling disadvantaged or frustrated, especially if they visit the resort during the promotional period and witness others receiving discounted meals. Furthermore, if the promotion leads to an influx of Passholders taking advantage of the discount, it could result in crowded dining venues and longer wait times for non-Passholder guests. This could further exacerbate the perceived disparity in benefits between Passholders and other guests.

Overall, while the Passholder discount offers a valuable perk to Annual Passholders, it may inadvertently disadvantage other guests who do not qualify for the promotion, potentially leading to higher meal expenses for some families visiting Walt Disney World Resort during the promotional period. Passholders getting this exclusive discount might lead to a potential increase in folks finally biting the bullet and buying their passes.

MSC Grandiosa will begin seven-night Caribbean itineraries in December 2025 for the winter sailing season while MSC Seashore remains, but sailing short three- and four-night Bahamas sailings to Nassau and the cruise line’s private island Ocean Cay.

It’s the largest MSC ship yet to sail from the port. The Meraviglia Plus-class vessel is among the top 20 largest cruise ships worldwide at 181,541 gross tons and a maximum passenger capacity of 6,334. It debuted in 2019 and features a water park, five pools, nine hot tubs, spa, the MSC Yacht Club exclusive area and a Lego partnership in its kids clubs.

The Galleria Grandiosa on MSC Grandiosa. (Courtesy/Ivan Sarfatti/MSC Cruises)

One of the more dramatic features is the 323-foot-long Galleria Grandiosa promenade with an LED projection screen over the length of the walkway. The ship features 10 restaurants including the Butcher’s Cut steakhouse, Hola! Tacos & Cantina, Kaito Sushi, Kaito Tepanyaki and L’Atelier Bistrot.

This is its first time taking on North American duties, and its arrival coincides with the debut out of PortMiami of the MSC World America, which will be even larger.

“The Winter 2025-2026 season will mark our largest presence in the U.S. to date, and our expansion at Port Canaveral is a big part of that,” said MSC Cruises USA President Rubén A. Rodríguez in a press release. “We know people sailing from Central Florida want options, and we’re delighted to offer them two of our most modern and glamorous ships with itineraries that will appeal to everyone from first-time to seasoned cruisers.”

MSC first began sailing from the port in 2021, joining mainstays Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Norwegian. It has shuffled several ships for short runs for what Rodríguez said was a taste of what MSC has to offer. That has included MSC Divina, MSC Meraviglia and MSC Seashore.

The family-owned cruise line has its roots in Europe, so the line plays up its “unique international flavor” compared with the other lines, while also touting its environmental efforts such as can be found on the private Bahamas island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. It is undergoing a major expansion effort to support excursions and on-island activities.

MSC Grandiosa will trade off alternating eastern and western Caribbean itineraries. Eastern trips will visit Nassau and Ocean Cay, Bahamas; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands. Western trips will visit Nassau; Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico; George Town, Cayman Islands; Montego Bay and Falmouth, Jamaica; and Belize City, Belize.

“We are honored that MSC Cruises chose Port Canaveral for the North American debut of their magnificent MSC Grandiosa,” said Port Canaveral CEO John Murray in the release. “Expanding their homeport fleet at Port Canaveral underscores their confidence in our partnership and shared commitment to success.”

The growing port for a time took on the title of world’s busiest cruise port after the pandemic, and while PortMiami has since retaken that title, Port Canaveral continues to expand its ship offerings.

The last sailing season saw 16 ships that either homeported year-round or sailed seasonally, and it expects that number to grow to 19 for the 2024-2025 sailing season, including the debuts of Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises this fall.
