Tankoa delivers 50m s501 superyacht grey.

The 49.99-metre motor yacht GREY has been delivered by the Tankoa shipyard in Genoa, Italy, as the latest unit in the yard’s S501 series. The owner signed the new-build contract in July 2021 and appointed TWW Yachts as project managers. GREY will be used privately after her owner takes delivery on 12May 2023.

Despite being part of the Tankoa S501 series, GREY is substantially different from her sisterships and the three-deck layout, devised by exterior designer Francesco Paszkowski, was heavily customised to meet her owners’ needs.

In addition to the standard features that come with the timeless Tankoa S501 series design, the owner added a spectacular outdoor home cinema screen. This high-definition and high-luminosity screen is located in front of the swimming pool lounge on the foredeck. GREY is also fitted with a top-of-the-range sound system designed by the award-winning French/British brand Focal & Naim has been fitted throughout the yacht.

The owner also gave attention to the design of the exterior decks and the four open lounging and entertainment spaces available. With alfresco living a key element of her design, GREY features a large Jacuzzi on the fly deck alongside seating and lounging areas as well as a pool on the foredeck.

TWW Yachts supported the owner throughout the entire build process from the initial specification reviews to delivery. “We are particularly proud of GREY, and she has been designed and built for the most charming and passionate owners that a yacht broker and project managers can only dream of representing in a new-build project,” says lead broker at TWW Yachts, Jean-Claude Carme.

Giorgio Cassetta worked closely with the owner to create a luxurious and sophisticated interior. Together they created a warm and inviting look and feel, making great use of an array of natural materials, such as rich woods and veined marbles. The interior also benefits from enlarged windows on the main deck, glass bulwarks and fold-out balconies to heighten the all-important indoor-outdoor connection.

“This interior is one of the finest I have ever seen on any yacht of this size,” adds David Westwood, principal partner of TWW Yachts. The six suites onboard GREY – including two customised suites on the main deck – can accommodate up to 12 overnight guests. There is also space for up to nine crew.

“Our usual flexibility in satisfying customer requests is evident in the customisations made to GREY – such as the installation of a swimming pool in the bow, and the fantastic and never seen before cinema / sound system fitted just in front of the pool. The jet black and whisper grey paint gives a sleek look to GREY,” says Giuseppe Mazza, Tankoa sales and marketing manager.

The Tankoa S501 series sits at 499GT and has a “light alloy 5083” aluminium hull and superstructure. She will soon join sisterships VERTIGE, BINTADOR, KINDA and OLOKUN at sea. The owner opted for the conventional propulsion package offered by Tankoa, which will deliver a top speed of 18 knots if using both the main diesel engines for propulsion and one diesel generator for the hotel load.

He speaks native Spanish, fluent English and also Catalan. STEWARDESS Mia Van Aswegen: Mia is passionate, hardworking and able to work efficiently under pressure. She works well with guests and crew members, and she is very patient. She has learnt how to deal with stress, long hours and somewhat difficult people, gracefully and always professionally. Her strengths include compassion, hardworking, beeing well organised and punctual. Mia has worked already on Motoryachts, beeing stewardess and cook. She also has a strong emphasis on effective communication and teamwork. Carlota is an adventurous, active and fit person who loves to travel and enjoys meeting and interacting with people from different cultures around the world, which helps her to practice her language skills. She has a keen interest in personal development, yoga and mindfulness practice, and is also passionate about the world of sailing and surfing. Carlota speaks Spanish and English and has a basic knowledge of French. FIRST MATE Steven Streefkerk: Our First mate and Engineer Steven is a positive and proactive person, always having a smile on his face. He grew up on a farm in South Africa, riding dirt bikes and bicycles. His passion for working with tools started at a young age, fixing his dirt bikes alongside his father. This experience taught him problem-solving and innovative thinking. Riding not only instilled resilience but also encouraged him to push his limits. His trading background of building houses has given him a solid foundation of electrical and plumbing skills easily transferable to yachting. When he is not working, he is surfing the oceans and exploring the world. He also loves Skate boarding and Cycling. Steven holds the Power Boat level 2 certificate and he is Advanced PADI diver.

Launched in 2023 by Tankoa , she boasts a contemporary profile with a ‘whisper grey’ hull and a ‘jet black’ superstructure designed by Francesco Paszkowski and a chic interior by Cassetta Yacht Designers . Her looks are just the start of her appeal as her deck facilities are second to none and her interior spaces the ultimate in luxury.

Foredeck pool and cinema

On deck, guests will find not one but two jacuzzis with the foredeck spa being adjacent to a huge cinematic 144” TV screen. Sit back in the glass-sided pool enjoying bubbling water with a drink in hand while watching the latest releases or classic movies. The second pool is beautifully mosaiced, surrounded by sun pads and can be covered by a soft bimini. The 300sqm across her three deck levels offers a choice of entertainment areas zoned for dining, sunbathing and socialising.

Internally, the attention to detail is clear with luxurious and sophisticated spaces designed in close collaboration with the owner. The design team have created a warm and inviting look featuring natural materials, rich wood and classic marble. The large-scale windows, extensive use of glass and fold-out balconies create a sense of light and space with fabulous indoor-outdoor connection.

Deck dining

The staterooms include a full beam master on the main deck with emperor sized bed, office space, fold out balconies on either side and a generous ensuite and walk in wardrobe. The VIP suite is also on the main deck while the four additional suites – two double and two convertible – are on the lower deck and all feature high-end ensuite bathrooms and superior AV set up.

Presented by DMA Yachting, the breathtaking charter yacht SHADES OF GREY is a 78 ft sailing catamaran featuring a jetski. The main attractions of SHADES OF GREY are her well-chosen interiors and culinary experience. SHADES OF GREY spends the winter season in the Bahamas. She was constructed by the ship builder Sunreef Yachts in 2024. The expansive yacht layout features 4 cozy cabins and comfortably accommodates up to 9 guests.

SHADES OF GREY is offered primarily as a sailing catamaran. The central space of the yacht is the main saloon, which connects to the aft deck. The aft deck features a variety of seating areas and that's where the guests spend most of their time. The modern cabins are connected by stairs to the main saloon - roomy, comfortable and pleasant. The cabins offer designer mattrace beds and feature ensuite bathrooms. Multiple portholes provide a connection with the natural world outside.

The sailboat features ENGINES: 2 x 225hp John Deere / GENERATORS: 2 x parallel working gensets 2x 20,5KVA 50Hz 230V engines and a generator.

CAPTAIN Borja Garriga-Nogués: Captain Borja's objective is to lead and join a vibrant and dynamic group of individuals. He aims to foster a fun and progressive work environment. The team should be built so that all members strive for the same common goal of providing the highest quality service and exceeding the expectations of owners and guests. Captain Borja has excellent communication skills and the ability and experience to relate to a wide range of people. He enjoys learning new techniques. He can work very well under pressure and possesses the skill to motivate others to ensure a harmonious working environment for all members of the team in order to perform at their best. Captain Borja is an ITC industry professional with +20 years of successful track record career, based in Barcelona lived in Madrid and London. Born in a sea lovers’ and boat owners’ family, he says "Passion for sailing, sea and yachts has been something inherent to me from early ages, having sailed all type of boats since then, professional and cruising crews, accumulating +70.000 NM to date. Underlying the last ten years sailing the Mediterranean and the Caribbean Sea onboard yachts from 50ft to 130ft with different roles (Skipper, Mate, Crew member) an average of 100 days per year, including ocean passages. In 2017 decided to quit from the ITC sector to make my passion my job by dedicating my best years ahead to develop a successful full-time career in the private yachting industry both as a crew member or skippering mid-sized or reduced crews. Hold the noble title of marquess by inheritance." He loves sailing, watersports, alpine ski, golf, racket sports, travel and music, motorsports, cooking and cocktails and photography. He is interested in economics and world politics, and what technology can do. Borja speaks native Spanish and Catalan, he speaks fluent English and elementary French and Italian. He holds the RYA Master 200GT unlimited and is also RYA Yachtmaster cruising instructor and Examiner. CHEF Rodrigo Perry: Rodrigo is a professional chef with 18 years of experience in the hospitality sector, focusing on restaurants and hotels. Recently, he has concentrated on high cuisine onboard luxury sailing yachts. He sees himself beeing a "Creative Foodie" with high attention to detail and visual aesthetics. He is a promoter of sustainability and responsible production practises. Rodrigo is proactive, highly organized, and has extensive experience leading groups. Skilled at working under pressure with acute ability to handle and solve challenges that arise in day-to-day sea work. Rodrigo started his career with education in Buenos Aires and Barcelona, he holds a Master in Business Management and Food and Beverage Administration, and the "Master en alta cocina". He worked in Restaurants in Girona and Barcelona in Spain, and also in Bogota and Providence Island, Colombia - even in the Restaurant "El Celler de Can Roca", awarded many times as the best restaurant in the world - before he started 2021 to work on a yacht. He speaks native Spanish, fluent English and also Catalan. STEWARDESS Mia Van Aswegen: Mia is passionate, hardworking and able to work efficiently under pressure. She works well with guests and crew members, and she is very patient. She has learnt how to deal with stress, long hours and somewhat difficult people, gracefully and always professionally. Her strengths include compassion, hardworking, beeing well organised and punctual. Mia has worked already on Motoryachts, beeing stewardess and cook. She has a very good eye for table setting and decorations, and will make sure the guests feel like being home from the minute they go on board. Mia holds a Jetski license and also a Powerboat license. STEWARDESS Carlota Zurita: Carlota is our latest addition to the crew to ensure that guests enjoy their time on board as much as possible. Born in Tenerife, Carlota is a competent and enthusiastic person who is adept at attentiveness, intuition and proactive problem-solving. She also has a strong emphasis on effective communication and teamwork. Carlota is an adventurous, active and fit person who loves to travel and enjoys meeting and interacting with people from different cultures around the world, which helps her to practice her language skills. She has a keen interest in personal development, yoga and mindfulness practice, and is also passionate about the world of sailing and surfing. Carlota speaks Spanish and English and has a basic knowledge of French. FIRST MATE Steven Streefkerk: Our First mate and Engineer Steven is a positive and proactive person, always having a smile on his face. He grew up on a farm in South Africa, riding dirt bikes and bicycles. His passion for working with tools started at a young age, fixing his dirt bikes alongside his father. This experience taught him problem-solving and innovative thinking. Riding not only instilled resilience but also encouraged him to push his limits. His trading background of building houses has given him a solid foundation of electrical and plumbing skills easily transferable to yachting. When he is not working, he is surfing the oceans and exploring the world. He also loves Skate boarding and Cycling. Steven holds the Power Boat level 2 certificate and he is Advanced PADI diver.

Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). This Sunreef 80, launched in March 2024, accommodates up to 9 guests in 4 well-appointed cabins. The warm grey in combination with the fresh Tiffany green creates an elegant ambience and makes you feel at home immediately.

You enter the Sunreef 80 on a hydraulic gangway, in the cockpit you find the dining table that can accommodate up to 9 guests. The sun pad in the cockpit can be converted into a sofa. The aft platform is hydraulic and allows easy access to the sea, 8 underwater lights give an impressive view at night.

The layout of the salon is made to relax, the big sofas on both sides invite you to enjoy quality time with your family. The small coffee tables in the middle of the salon can be converted into dining tables if the weather does not allow us to eat outdoors. From all sofas, you have a great view of the huge pop-up TV in the salon. Two wine coolers and a small galley make the salon area complete.

The Master cabin starboard offers a kingsize bed, a comfortable sofa, a vanity desk, a pop-up TV, a walk-in wardrobe and a comfortable bathroom with shower and toilet. The VIP cabin is based on midship Portside, she offers a queen-sized bed, a walk-in wardrobe and a comfortable bathroom. The Double guest cabin at Starboard Bow has also a queen-sized bed and an ensuite bathroom. The triple cabin portside bow has three single beds, each 80cmx200cm, and an ensuite bathroom. All cabins are equipped with TV and receivers.

The SHADES OF GREY has a special Night-Mode Lithium-Battery bank upgrade, that allows to switch off the generators during the night. So the only noise you hear overnight is the music of the waves.

Thanks to the Sputnik antenna you can enjoy 4G/LTE WiFi on board, and kids will love the Sony PlayStation 5 with 2 DualSense remote controllers.

The flybridge offers a unique living area: the coffee table with the surrounding sofa can be converted to a dining table, and the bar with bar stools is the best place to enjoy a cocktail, while the chef prepares your BBQ dinner. The flybridge is fully covered by a hardtop Bimini to provide shade also during the hottest days.

From the salon you can access the foredeck, where you find another sofa area with a coffee table, this is the perfect place for the first coffee in the morning but also for enjoying cruising during the day.

This Sunreef 80 SHADES OF GREY is equipped with a fully battened mainsail hydrant, 3 reefs square top and a Genoa hydranet. In addition, she is equipped with a Carbon mast performance and a Carbon boom park avenue and a genakker. Two strong 280hp John Deere engines and tanks for 4,000l fuel allow to cruise far also without wind.

Italian shipyards visit - what's new in the series-build market?

With the highest number of new-build yacht orders by country (BI Global Order Book 2024), Italy offers a shipyard for every type of client. Our New Build team has sold two Benetti Class 44 yachts in the last three months but the range of options available is huge. The New Build and Brokerage teams recently visited yards on Italy's west coast to learn about the shipyards and understand their latest offerings.  

Sales Broker and Shipyard Relationship Coordinator, Eleonora Pitasso , explains: ‘These shipyard visits are essential to guarantee the intel and opportunities we provide to our clients are accurate and current. It is during these trips that relationships are built and cemented. We learn about the shipyard’s plan and vision for the future, new designs and concepts in development plus the very latest opportunities available for our clients to purchase.’  

Rossinavi has a boutique feel with a focus on custom yachts from under 40m to over 70m (130-230ft), with all metal work completed in-house, providing consistency across the project development from beginning to end.  

‘It is an ideal shipyard for a hands-on client who wants to be involved in a more custom, unique project and wants something that stands out,’ says Broker Justin Pierce . Its recently delivered 65.7m (215.5ft) ALCHEMY , a very busy Burgess charter yacht, has won numerous awards including Motor Yacht of the Year at the World Superyacht Awards 2024, and is great example of the sleek, modern designs with aggressive exterior lines.’  

Offering yachts from a remarkable 24 different series, Sanlorenzo is a distinct semi-custom yacht builder and the second largest yacht builder in the world with over 132 yachts on their 2024 order book (BI Global Order Book 2024).  

Miami-based broker Charles Jones believes: 'It is the wide-ranging series of options that makes it difficult for any buyer not to consider the shipyard when pressed with even the most unique owner’s requirements. With vessel types ranging from adventurous explorer yachts like the 500 EXP to the elegant 73 Steel and the successful day boat series of the SX and SP ranges, there is a yacht to fit almost every yacht programme imaginable.’  

Hidden among the abundance of production yacht builders in Italy, Tankoa stands out as one of the more versatile shipyards. Established in 2007, the yard has strategically positioned itself in a growing market segment, focusing on limited series, semi-custom and full custom yachts ranging from 45-80m (150-260ft).  

The T55 Sportiva caught the attention of New York-based broker Rob Vermilye . ‘At 55m (180ft) and 455GT, this aluminium-hulled yacht has amenities usually found on much larger vessels, but neatly packaged below 500 GT. It’s well-suited to both the American and European markets. Its shallow draft and water-level observation lounge are perfect for The Bahamas, and its expansive outdoor spaces, like the open-air beach club, full-length pool and spa, would fit in naturally in the South of France.’ 

Overmarine is a yard best known for its Mangusta series, a range that has been highly successful over the last two decades and has delivered no fewer than 19 Mangusta 165s to date. 

With the recent launch of the completely new 165, London-based Broker Nicholas von Sydow thinks: ‘This offers the full package, from the large six cabin layout and huge exterior deck spaces to a 30-knot cruising speed, it’s great for owners and friends who love to explore multiple locations during their time on board.’

Athens-based Broker Nikolas Pantagias picks out his personal favourite. ‘It would have to be the 52 T-Line Hybrid, with exterior design by Francesco Paszkowski and interior by Studio Vafiadis. She’s a full displacement 52m (170ft) steel-hulled yacht set for delivery this summer.

‘This yacht combines modern looks, significant spaces, excellent quality materials inside and out, modern power solutions and amazing Italian design. Simply put, it’s the ideal Mediterranean yacht.’ Baglietto has already sold 10 models in this popular series with the next available delivery slot not until 2027.  

The Italian Sea Group

Set within the port of Marina di Carrara, The Italian Sea Group (TISG) has launched 1,288 yachts to date. The group has recently included CELI, an interior supplier, into their portfolio, bringing interiors in-house and adding to their strength of Italian-made quality. London-based Broker Vilena Pavlova suggests: 'Their variety across the brands is unmatched,  with four existing yachting brands focusing on a different type of vessel, there is truly something for all at TISG.' 

The 55m Admiral S-Force, with possible delivery in the next 18 months, is a perfect sub 500GT yacht for an owner looking to step on board imminently. 

Set within the yacht-building hub of Viareggio lies Azimut, which focuses on the construction of yachts between 12-40m. Their incredibly successful GRANDE series has sold over 160 units since 2017 and is evolving with the inclusion of their new GRANDE 44 series. 

'The Grande series continues to be in high demand,' says  Eleonora Pitasso . 'A Grande 36 is available for delivery in Autumn 2025, which makes it a prime opportunity to purchase this popular model within the next 18 months. Not to be missed.'

With more than 69 yachts currently under construction, Benetti continues to be dominant in the region with a vast array of models and sizes available from their Class, Oasis, B.Yond, B.Now and B.Century series.

Livorno-based Barry Gray from the Burgess New Build team thinks: 'The Motopanfilo is a great introductory model for a client new to yachting. It has been reimagined to appeal to new generations while keeping elegant elements from its past.' There is currently a MOTOPANFILO 37 available with a delivery in Spring 2026.
