It’s not easy to keep a 285-foot superyacht under wraps for a whole year, but Feadship has managed to do exactly that. The Dutch yard has kept showstopper Lonian hidden since her launch in 2019, but now it’s finally ready to show her off.

The vessel was kept secret at the request of the owners, who wanted to enjoy a full year of private cruising without any publicity. That feat was relatively easy to achieve since the superyacht is packed with everything you could ever want or need, and has been specifically designed for life at sea.

In fact, Lonian spends little time moored in marinas and instead cruises the world with a “flotilla” of toys and tenders, plus a 217-foot support vessel that carries additional equipment and a crew of 22.

With exteriors penned by Sinot , Lonian sports a deep blue hull and dramatic bow, and is surprisingly slimline given her size. She features extensive glass and stainless steel for a decidedly modern feel.

“She has the presence and stance of a beefy motoryacht while retaining an elegant and slender air,” the yard said.

But let’s talk about life onboard. Her knockout feature is an utterly unique glass swimming pool located aft. It has a translucent bottom that doubles as the ceiling of the beach club below and a built-in movie screen integrated into the edge of the pool, because why not?

Not to be outdone, her automated swim platform on the transom hatch opens and closes like the roof of a convertible car. The teak hatch opens first, and the aft door descends before the hatch closes again, leaving no visible sign of a threshold or door.

Elsewhere, the expansive foredeck on the owner’s deck has a jacuzzi with bespoke cooling and heating functionality. This was specifically requested by the exacting owners, who like relaxing in the chilled plunge pool after a sweat sesh at the bridge deck gym.

Lonian features 22 different openings—platforms, hatches and doors—which creates a seamless outdoor-indoor flow and allows guests to easily access the surrounding waters. If further exploration is required, there’s also an Airbus ACH145 helicopter on board.

The interiors, penned by Sinot and Richard Hallberg Interior Design , remain private, but Feadship did reveal there is a glass elevator to serve all five decks and an epic lounge with full-beam panoramic views. The vessel can sleep a total of 14 guests across seven cabins, including an owner’s stateroom, four generous guest staterooms and two VIP suites. There are also 15 crew cabins and one captain’s cabin.

About Lonian

Lonian is a striking 87-metre beauty with exterior styling by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design, as is the interior, the latter in cooperation with Richard Hallberg Interior Design. The accommodations for the owners and their twelve guests are of the very highest standards, as will the service be by 27 crew. The owners chose Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design for Lonian ’s exterior styling because they are a great fan of the Dutch studio’s masculine style. The result is a Feadship with the presence and stance of a beefy motoryacht which simultaneously retains an elegant and slender air. Lonian ’s Majestic Blue hull represented a considerable challenge even for Feadship’s legendary paint team, which was tasked with achieving this regal look in the kind of dark hue that is very unforgiving of any faults. They passed the test…

Another highly visible aspect of Lonian is liberal use of stainless steel: from the signature V-cut feature on port and starboard side to the dramatic bow, this adds to the glamour of the design as well as its coherence. The same goes for the wealth of glass used in the wide body section of a design that is actually surprisingly slimline considering the full-beam main deck with no sidewalks. Such a layout has major implications for crew logistics, of course, superbly solved here by making optimal use of the ample space available on the lower deck to enhance service traffic. The muscular look of the bow is another example of form meeting function, with the extra volume adding to the yacht’s interior real estate.

Watch: newly refitted 87m Lonian leaves Feadship yard after successful sea trials

Feadship 's 87-metre superyacht Lonian has completed sea trials following a refit period in the Netherlands. Delivered in 2018, the yacht recently left the Dutch yard's facility to enjoy the summer cruising season. 

In a social media post, the yard stated: "She returned to the Netherlands for her five-year warranty check, an extensive repaint and some minor enhancements."

At the wishes of her owners, who stipulated the desire for a full year's private cruising without publicity, the shipyard kept the yacht under wraps for more than a year after her launch.

Interest in the yacht had been strong however, evident in a time-lapse video of Lonian 's construction, which received more than five million views on Feadship's YouTube channel. In 2020, the yard released the first images of the yacht. 

On her adventures around the world, in which  Lonian spends as much time away from marinas as possible, the yacht travels with a "flotilla" of toys and tenders, as well as a 66-metre support vessel, which transports more equipment and an additional crew of 22.

Lonian's exterior design, which is characterised by a deep blue hull, plentiful stainless steel and extensive glass, was penned by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design . 

“The result is a Feadship with the presence and stance of a beefy motor yacht which simultaneously retains an elegant and slender air," the yard said.

A total of 22 openings from interior to exterior create an "unrivalled open feel on board," according to Feadship.

One particularly dramatic feature is the swimming pool, the translucent bottom of which doubles as the ceiling of the beach club below. A cinema screen is also integrated into the edge of the pool.

Meanwhile, the transom hatch features a swim platform that opens and closes like the roof of a convertible car, with the teak hatch opening and aft door descending before the hatch closes again.

The large flush foredeck on the dedicated owner's deck features a Jacuzzi which can be heated and cooled to a range of temperatures between 10 and 38 degrees. This feature was specifically requested by the owners, who enjoy using the chilled plunge pool after working out in the bridge deck gym.

Lonian' s helideck accommodates an AW169 helicopter and also features a crane capable of lifting 3.5 tonnes.

The interior of the yacht, which remains private, was created by Sinot in collaboration with Richard Hallberg Interior Design . Accommodation on board is for a total of 14 guests in seven cabins, including the owner's stateroom, four large guest staterooms and two VIPs. The crew quarters consist of 15 crew cabins and one captain's cabin.

While the interior has not been shown, Feadship revealed that it contains a glass elevator serving all five decks and a main deck lounge with panoramic full-beam views.

Launched in July 2018 by Feadship Yachts in Aalsmeer, Netherlands, Lonian is one of the largest yachts built by the Dutch company at 87m in length.

With a streamlined exterior and powerful bow designed by Sinot Yacht Design, Lonian boasts a distinctive royal blue steel hull, with an aluminium superstructure and a beam of 13.80m. This custom displacement yacht also features 'at anchor stabilisers' which work at zero speed, increasing onboard comfort at anchor and on rough waters. Lonian looks to be an impressive new and different build for the Dutch company.

Very few details are currently available regarding Lonian, however, she is believed to be well-equipped across 4 teak decks with luxurious amenities, including a swimming pool aft, tender garage, helipad and a jacuzzi. The interiors were designed by Richard Hallberg, and it is known that there will be enough room for 12 guests plus the owners, and room for up to 27 crew members.

Lonian is expected to be delivered to her owner later in 2018.

Dutch yacht builder  Feadship  has presented striking images of the  87-metre superyacht Lonian  in her natural habitat and provided more details on the vessel for the first time. First known as Project 700 ,  the vessel  was launched in 2018 . Very little information was revealed earlier, stipulated by the owners’ desire for a full year's private cruising without publicity .

The 87-metre superyacht was built for the owners with thirteen years of superyacht experience, who preferred spending as much time as possible at anchor rather than moored in marinas. Once they find the perfect spot for a period of peace and serenity mixed with fun and games,  Lonian ’s anchors are dropped and the various platforms, hatches and doors opened to allow optimum access to the surrounding waters. The 22 different openings generate an unrivalled outdoor-in feel onboard and set a new benchmark for a specific type of engineering and construction.

Lonian ’s masculine exterior styling highlighted by her bow, had been developed by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design, who has just presented a new 112m hydrogen-powered superyacht concept Aqua. Lonian features the presence and stance of a beefy motoryacht while retaining elegance. Her Majestic Blue hull meanwhile was reported to be a huge challenge for Feadship’s paint team as this kind of dark hue is not the easiest option.

Another key aspect of  Lonian ‘s profile is liberal use of stainless steel: from the signature V-cut feature on port and starboard side to the dramatic bow, it all adds to her glamour. The same goes for the glass used in the wide body section of design, next to a full-beam main deck with no sidewalks.

Practical requests are also synced with smart aesthetics on-board. For instance, the three platforms surrounding the beach club aft, port and starboard all had to be located at a certain height above the water to safeguard against flooding. An immense amount of work went into optimising the hull height to ensure it would work perfectly for a yacht of exactly this length.

The design teams also had to take into account the added complexity of this swimming pool with a translucent bottom that doubles as part of the ceiling of the beach club below. This dramatic feature was a fascinating way to solve the puzzle of how to amalgamate a beach club floor, platforms side and aft, a pool bottom made of glass with no construction at the sides, and the pool itself. The pool surface is 50 cm above deck height, creating a great place for guests to sit and paddle their feet after lounging on the cabanas.

Another piece of engineering art on-board Lonian, is the first Feadship transom hatch   in the aft section of the boat with a flush swim platform that opens and closes in the same way as a convertible car. The teak hatch opens first and the aft door descends before the hatch closes again, leaving no visible sign of a threshold or door.

Guests can arrive by air as Lonian has a fully equipped deck for an AW169 helicopter. If the tender needs a home for the night the substantial crane located on the helideck is capable of lifting 3.5 tonnes.

The superyacht offering accommodation for the 14 guests across 7 cabins and the service crew of 27, has been  sometimes photographed  by yacht enthusiasts on her way. Meanwhile, in June 2019, a  brand new 66-metre support vessel Hodor custom-build for Lonian was introduced  in collaboration between Spanish builder Astilleros Armón and Australian naval architecture company Incat Crowther.

The footage shows the 87m/285ft luxury yacht LONIAN navigating the narrow Dutch canals as she heads out to the North Sea.

The latest addition to Feadship ’s fleet, LONIAN left the Aalsmeer shipyard to complete sea trials last month.

A video released by the shipyard shows the journey she made, navigating the canals and bridges as she headed towards Rotterdam.

In a journey which took two days, the motor yacht came up against 15 bridges and attracted throngs of onlookers eager to see the sleek superyacht up close.

The video also highglights the challenges that Feadship faces when transporting their yachts via the waterways. Several of the bridges don’t offer a wide enough space for megayachts to comfortably fit through, and the crew on board LONIAN are slow and meticulous when moving her through the tight gaps.

Previously known as Project 700, custom-built motor yacht LONIAN offers a wealth of amenities across four expansive decks. Committed to comfort, she is fitted with a Jacuzzi, helipad and private tender garage to store her state-of-the-art accessories. She plays host to a large swimming pool on the aft deck which looks out over a swim platform.

Boasting exterior design by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design, she has a striking profile complete with a midnight blue hull. Although no pictures of her interior have been released yet, the team at Richard Hallberg Interior Design will have furnished her to a superb standard throughout.

LONIAN is the fourth luxury yacht to emerge from Feadship’s esteemed shipyards this year and you can watch a timelapse of her being built over the course of three years . She follows the launch of 110m/361ft motor yacht ANNA , the largest superyacht ever built by Feadship, who hit the water in April.
